What’s It About?

With MYHOMEWORK STUDENT PLANNER, kids in elementary school through college have a free way to keep track of any assignments they need to complete. Tasks are organized by individual class or specific calendar date, and kids can set recurring activities to repeat. Parents and teachers can customize settings to organize assignments by individual period or block-based schedules. When setting up assignments, kids can prioritize them and view them as complete, late, and upcoming. Kids can also set reminders. A built-in rewards system provides incentives to kids who complete their work and consistently add new assignments to their planner through a service called Kiip, though parents will need to enter an email address to use it. Users can upgrade to a premium account by paying an annual fee, which eliminates ads, offers customizable themes, and allows documents to be uploaded to classes and specific homework assignments.

Is It Any Good?

This free education homework planner is an excellent way to teach kids at an early age how to organize and keep track of homework and assignment due dates, all on their own. Many kids have trouble keeping track of a traditional assignment notebook. For kids with access to technology in school, this app will encourage kids to be more independent in adding tasks to their calendar and in planning for projects and upcoming tests. In the beginning, teachers and parents will need to be involved to monitor assignments and due dates, as well as to enter specific setting information to customize schedules. And manually entering all assignments if teachers aren't using the companion software can be tedious. However, the myHomework Student Planner app is a very valuable solution for kids and adults, especially those with executive functioning and memory difficulties. While parents and teachers may need to spend time customizing settings and checking the app daily for accuracy with young kids, it serves as a fantastic strategy to help students learn how to organize their homework, which promotes independence for high school and college. The app is heavily text based, so kids will need to be able to read in order to view the name of their assignments, or ask for help, or use the device settings to have text read to them.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

Families can talk about how myHomework Student Planner can help kids stay organized by keeping assignments in one location, while technology in general can improve overall neatness, reduce errors, and offer reminders for those who have difficulty remembering deadlines. How might this app work better than a paper planner?

Talk about ways to stay organized and avoid procrastination. Can using a homework planner app help kids track school assignments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis so that they can get items finished on time?

2012 was an exciting year for Instin! We went from being a student app side project to a company focused on making a better education system.

Here’s a recap of some of the best moments of 2012:

12 months ago - myHomework iPad app is launched.  Today the iPad is where we get the most visitors per day.

2012 Numbers

In 2012 myHomework had over 1.3 million new downloads, bringing the number to over 2.5 million since launch.  Over 36,000 students went the extra step to pay for the ability to sync between devices, bringing the number to 47,000 since its launch.

On iPad we are averaging 40,000 uniques a week and 300,000 visits a week.

On iPhone we are averaging 36,000 uniques a week and 180,000 visits a week.

On Android we are averaging 9,000 uniques a week and 36,000 visits a week.

Since it launched last year there were over 6.5 million syncs averaging around 12,000 a day.

Last year myHomework was available for the iPhone, Web and Android phones. Today myHomework is available for the iPhone, iPad, Web, Android phones, Android tablets, Kindle Fire and Windows 8.

What’s next?

2013 is another year of excitement and growth. Now it’s not only on myHomework, but Teachers.io too. We hope by the end of the year we’ll have our products integrated in more schools, like this , as their preferred tools. You can expect availability of our products in more platforms and hopefully some new products too.

Cheers and Happy 2013!

A new myHomework for Android

We’re pleased to announce version 2.0 of myHomework for Android is available for download.

A couple of months ago we decided to rewrite the app from the ground up to take advantage of all that’s new and exciting in the Android world.

Some things to be excited about:

  • works great on Jelly Bean now
  • more responsive to user input
  • landscape layouts
  • action bar and holo theme for a more beautiful look
  • great support for 7" tablets (with plans for 10")
  • long press homeworks to quick complete/uncomplete
  • numerous bug fixes

We’ll soon be adding bi-weekly and period-based schedule support.  Joining Teachers.io classes will follow that.

If you’re an Android user, thanks for your patience as we try to catch the app up with the iOS version. Today was a big step towards making that happen.

myHomework’s History & Design Evolution

We just finished releasing a major update to myHomework where students can now join a Teachers.io class and automatically receive assignments, tests, syllabus, attachments and announcements directly on their devices. Every major release I rethink the design and try to make it look better than before. This time was no different. myHomework has been around for a couple of years now, so I’ve gathered enough assets that I think it’s time to write about its evolution, where it came from, what it means, etc…

image

It all started with the iPhone app in 2009. I was still in college, the iPhone SDK had come out, people were starting to write apps and become successfull, so I decided to do the same. I thought to myself that even if the app didn’t become successful at least it was a great thing to have on a resume. So I went out to B&N, bought one of the first books dedicated exclusively to Objective-C and started learning. A few days later I started to get the hang of it and started thinking of what kind of app to build.

Since I was still in school my biggest problem was staying organized. Even though my school used to give student planners for free I would always forget it in my dorm room, or lose it. I remember going to the App Store searching for a student planner app but the ones available were all ugly and you had to pay for it. So why not a student planner app that was free and looked cool? Well that’s what I decided to build…

image

While looking for some design inspiration I noticed that some apps were trying to mimic real life objects. I remember thinking that those apps looked really cool, so instead of making it look like any other app in the store with a blue navigation bar and a black toolbar I decided to make it look like a notebook. So I whipped out my basic tutorial, learned photoshop skills and started designing. I remember having some issues with the navigation design, I really didn’t want to add that black toolbar for navigation. So my girlfriend (now my wife) had this amazing idea of having the navigation look like sticky notes, so I decided to do it.

After buiding the app I had to come up with a name. Instead of coming up with a new word in the dictionary I wanted a name that actually meant something. Around that time a lot of apps were following the Apple wording trend of putting the letter ‘i’ in front of a word. I remember seeing iHomework, iStudent, iStudy and etc… I also couldn’t use just the word because they were already claimed. So I thought to myself: I’m building this app for me, so I can keep track of my classes, so I can keep track of my homework so I decided to use the word 'my’ and I called it myHomework.

I launched myHomework, graduated from college, joined a really large corporation in Kansas City (Cerner) as a software engineer and left myHomework to the side. I then created a few other apps just for fun during my free time, such as the simple kids game called Touch Boom! and a 2010 world cup app called my Goal .

image

In 2010 I joined a team at Cerner to do web development for a new consumer product. While on that team I learned a lot about web development, especially from two guys: Ryan and Keith . Towards the end of that year the execs wanted a new product, but they wanted it to be built in only two weeks! So they put me, Ryan, Keith and a designer in a room and we got it done. After that we noticed that the 3 of us could work really well together so we started looking at some side projects to work on. Around that time myHomework was doing well, it had close to a million downloads and students were loving it, so we saw an opportunity there and decided to join forces and start a company and we called it Instin .

When that happened we decided to rebuild myHomework from scratch. I removed the sticky notes metaphor but kind of kept the notebook look and feel. The navigation was moved to a launcher view which kind of mimics the iPhone launcher. We noticed that worked really well and allowed us to add in new pages and features when needed. Around May 2011 we launched a new version of myHomework for iPhone, a website and an Android app.

image

During 2011 we got a lot more students using myHomework, a lot of feedback on how to improve it and a lot of requests for an iPad app. That’s when a new redesign of myHomework came to be, I ported the iPhone app into an universal app, improved the design to have a better texture and gradient and nearly the end of 2011 we launched myHomework for iPad.

2012 came around we noticed that by launching the iPad app we got a lot more downloads and users passing the 2 million download mark. While working on myHomework as a side project for nearly a year we learned a lot about the education space and how there is an opportunity to increase education with the use of technology. We also learned that the current offerings weren’t great and how students and teachers were not happy with what they had/have. So in May 2012 Keith, Ryan and I decided to quit our jobs to work full time on our company Instin and myHomework.

image

If you are wondering what Instin means, it stands for Einstein but without the 'e's

image

Since May 2012 we’ve been busy! We launched a Windows 8 app which you can read more about it here . We also launched a completely new design of myHomework’s website, iPhone and iPad app that’s a lot more crisp, clean and easy to touch. We also launched a new product called Teachers.io which is a place for teachers to organize their classes, assignments and resources and for students that are using myHomework to automatically download the teacher’s content on their devices and be reminded of when things are due.

image

With this new version of myHomework we are taking it to a new level. We are no longer just a student planner. Along with Teachers.io, myHomework is starting to become a classroom tool that hopefully will improve the experience that students and teachers are having in class and the current frustations will go away. With this new version we also have a more beautiful logo. The blue background represents the cover of the notebook where the pencil and eraser are placed on the top.

image

I’m extremelly exited about how far myHomework has gone and about what is yet to come. As we grow we are commited to making the life of students and teachers easier. Hopefully one day we will be able to look back and see what a great job we’ve done.

Teachers.io integration in myHomework!

When we’ve asked students that aren’t using myHomework yet why they’re not, the most frequent answers are:

  • My teacher already hands out their syllabus and assignment sheets, I don’t want to enter that all into an app.
  • Entering all of my assignments is too time consuming, I’d rather just use paper.

We understand not wanting to enter all of the information each teacher hands out or puts on the (often outdated) school website, into an app. That’s why we’ve created Teachers.io , a place where teachers can enter all of their class information in a way that’s easier for students to access.

image

If your teacher uses Teachers.io , you’ll get due dates, the syllabus, files and announcements right in your myHomework app, without having to enter anything! Then, you can use myHomework more for staying organized than for data entry.

In the latest release of the iPhone and iPad apps and on myhomeworkapp.com, getting your teacher’s class information into myHomework is extremely easy:

Accessing information about your class has never been simpler. Tell your teachers how myHomework makes it easier for students to stay organized. Have them sign up for a free account by visiting the Teachers.io website today!

P.S. - We’re working hard on bringing these new features to the Android and Windows 8 apps too. Watch for those updates soon!

This video demos some of the iPad changes coming on version 4.0 which should be available it about a week or so when it gets approved to the App Store. Here is the full list of changes:

★ New visual design.  ★ Added Teachers.io integration. You can now simply join your teacher’s class.  ★ iPhone 5 support.  ★ Added period-based schedules.  ★ Added alternating week schedules.  ★ Added ability to associate the calendar with block days.  ★ Added 2 extra block days (up to 10 now).

✔ Fixed usability issue when saving class schedules.  ✔ Several bug fixes.

Here is a little sneak peak of myHomework version 4.0 that will be coming for iOS in the next few weeks. More specifically the video shows a change that we made around class times that several people has been asking about. Let us know what you think!

Free myHomework in the Silicon Prairie!

image

Last night we attended the 1st annual Silicon Prairie Awards , where myHomework was nominated for “Mobile App of the Year” and the creator of myHomework, Rodrigo Neri , was nominated for “Technologist of the Year”.

We were thrilled to simply be nominated out of the Midwest’s finest apps and developers. We’d like to send a big congrats to the winners of those two categories:  FrontFlip and Brandon Weber of Dwolla .

We’d also like to thank Silicon Prairie News . SPN is our go-to source for learning about all of the exciting things happening in the Midwest tech scene. You should follow @SiliconPrairie if you’re not already.

To show our appreciation to the place we call home, we’re going to be offering free myHomework accounts to students in the prairie via our iPhone, iPad, Kindle and Android apps. On Tuesday, September 4th if you share your location and are near Omaha, Des Moines or Kansas City, you’ll be offered a free account.

We’re working hard on the next release of myHomework, which has some new features we’re really excited about. Stay tuned!

50,000 Downloads in Google Play

Posted 12 years ago.

Last night we eclipsed the 50K download mark which puts us in the top 4.5% of all google play applications[1].

It’s been just a little bit over a year since we first introduced myHomework for android to the google market ( now known as play).

We’re happy with where we’re at but we’ve still got a long ways to go.

Thanks to all of the students who have helped us create a better app by providing feedback.

We’re planning some big updates before the fall so stay tuned!

android myhomework app

myHomework is a useful scheduling and organizational app available both online and as an app for smartphone platforms like iOS and Android. It has a clean notebook aesthetic that features a straightforward, easy-to-use interface. There are three icons on the homepage, one for calendar, another for homework, and the third for class profiles. Students can record their class information, build schedules, list assignments, and tie it all together with a calendar that marks due dates and class times.  myHomework is an excellent tool for introducing kids to academic organization, a skill that becomes increasingly useful as children begin to enter more intensive tiers of education. We recommend this app to any user ages 6 and up.

This app is good for kids who need help with:

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Organization

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task. Organizing ideas.

Using myHomework helps maintain an up-to-date homework tally to help your child to keep on top of his assignments, adding new ones and marking off those that he completes. He will need to assemble all of the relevant information on these assignments (due date, relevant details, teacher contact info., which assignment is for which class) when inputting it into myHomework . Laying out his deadlines in a visual format will help him decide upon the desired structure of his schedule. Best of all, the app automates the information into an interactive calender. This fosters a meticulous, organized approach that translates to an an array of other responsibilities, academic or otherwise.

Time Management

Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

myHomework helps users track their upcoming assignments, tasks, and other responsibilities. Tracking important dates and deadlines can help a user make informed decisions about how much time and effort to devote to individual tasks to maintain maximum efficiency. Understanding factors such as deadlines, amount of time required to complete a task, and priority can help users compare and contrast different responsibilities and effectively manage their time to best suit their needs.

In order to get the most out of myHomework, try some of the ideas below, or submit your own in the comment box at the bottom of the page.

Organization Activity

android myhomework app

Getting organized is easy, but staying organized can be a whole lot tougher. Have your child maintain a myHomework account, and check in on a daily basis to observe his progress. Encourage him to make a habit of marking his assignments down as they are assigned in order to keep abreast of his workload.

Planning Activity

To start, have your child create a detailed schedule. Draw up a list of his classes, list the work he has been assigned in each one and name his daily obligations (chores, sports, ect.). Then, have him input this information into myHomework, making sure to note the correct times and dates of each. This will input the information into the calender. Next, have him set levels of priority for his current assignments. This will make it easier to decide upon the allotted amounts of time needed for each assignment. Seeing all of his work combined might be intimidating at first, but seeing the impact of a well planned schedule on even a large workload can do a lot to impress upon your child the importance of being prepared.

Time Management Activity

Practice keeping track of how much time is required to complete different tasks. For example, if your child has math homework nightly, keep track of the average amount of time it takes to complete each night's work. When creating a schedule of assignments, your child can gain a greater perspective on how to manage their math homework workload. Encourage your child to use this same strategy with other responsibilities in order to properly prioritize assignments, projects, and other tasks. Understanding and accurately assessing the amount of time required to properly complete assignments can improve your child's time management skills and assist in meeting deadlines.

myHomework & ADHD

Children with ADHD often have a hard time adhering to deadlines, scheduling events, and prioritizing obligations. myHomework is an app that can help your child become more organized, while fostering hard-to-teach qualities like conscientiousness and work-ethic. Using myHomework allows your child to organize his homework, track his progress in class, and keep current with his responsibilities and commitments.

How to Use myHomework for Children with ADHD:

  • Although many children with ADHD complete their homework, they may struggle to prioritize assignments. Research papers and projects should be completed over the course of a few weeks - not the night before it is due. When your child inputs his class information and his daily obligations, he is better able to determine the importance of each assignment, and finish each one accordingly.
  • For children with ADHD who cannot readily recall due dates and daily homework assignments, myHomework’s “Homework” icon allows your child to set up a personalized homework profile. All assignments that are filed under this tab can be sorted by due date, subject material, or length. While schools tend to issue daily planners to students, myHomework offers more character space, a cleaner display, and a much neater method for categorizing a variety of both school-related and non school-related obligations
  • myHomework helps children who have trouble tracking their progress in school. Children with ADHD often misplace old tests, quizzes, and homework assignments, leaving them with no evidence of their grades. When report cards come, your child may be surprised at how poorly he scored, maintaining that he studied hard. With myHomework’s custom features, your child can record all the grades he receives over the course of the year. This way, he will know where he stands in class at all times.

myHomework & Dyslexia

Children with dyslexia who have difficulty with organization and preparation for school assignments may struggle to stay on top of homework and reading assignments. myHomework facilitates proper academic organization through multiple features which children with dyslexia may find beneficial.

How to Use myHomework for Children with Dyslexia:

  • Your child can use the “Homework” feature to keep track of approaching assignments, due dates, or tests. The application is equipped to give reminders when a deadline is approaching or prompt users with warnings when an assignment is overdue. myHomework gives your child a single place to keep track of multiple assignments across numerous classes, subjects, and dates.
  • myHomework also offers a “Resources” feature which gives your child a place to store important documents, readings, or assignments. Encourage your child to create a document for important assignments including the assignment details, essay prompts, or other instructions provided by the teacher and upload the document into the “Resources” section. Create a "cheat sheet" for  commonly misspelled words, grammatical rules, or other important information utilized while completing assignments which place emphasis on reading and writing. Having a central place to keep track of important dates, assignments, and directions for completing assignments is a great way to facilitate productivity for a child who struggles academically.
  • Your child should utilize the prioritization and scheduling features in myHomework. Assignments can be ranked based on importance and your child can even create a schedule to include blocks for classes, homework time, and study time. Staying organized is a major component to keeping up in classes and succeeding in academics and your child should be sure to devote more energy to areas which need the most work. For children with dyslexia who struggle with reading and writing , assignments which primarily include these tasks should be given a high priority.

While myHomework focuses primarily on helping users organize their academic life, there are a slew of other note-taking and organizational apps for both  academic and general uses . Check out our featured suggestions below, or offer your own in the comment field at the bottom of the page.

The dashboard provides a quick and easy layout for organizing classes, assignments, and reminders.

Pros : Simple interface allows students to monitor classes, assignments, and important dates effortlessly.

Cons : Manually importing class details and assignments can be tedious if a student's teachers are not using the companion product.

Bottom Line : If used on a regular basis with teacher guidance and motivation, students can be ready to tackle their complex schedules with ease.

  • How Can I Teach with This Tool?
  • What Is It?
  • Is It Good for Learning?

Even though the myHomework app is designed for student use, teachers do have the option of sharing class and assignment details with students via a companion app called Teachers.io . Even without the use of the companion app, teachers can still encourage students to interact with their myHomework account as much as possible to create a habit; the more details that are poured into the app, the more useful it will become. By utilizing the reminder and due date features, students will learn valuable time-management skills they will need in other areas of their lives.

myHomework Student Planner helps students stay organized amid busy class schedules. Students can sign up using a username and password or via a Google or Facebook account and then manually add each of their classes. After classes have been created, students can add any other details to their calendars, including assignments, projects, and test dates. Reminders also can be set for any upcoming due dates. Ads exist in the free version, and teachers should be aware of a third-party rewards system (that can be turned off).

If a student's teachers are using the companion app, Teachers.io , students can bypass entering class information manually and receive announcements from their teachers. If teachers do not have a profile in Teachers.io, then students will have to import each class one at a time.

If mobile organizational features are not already built into a student's LMS at school, myHomework Student Planner has the potential to be very useful, and with the ability to synch among devices, a student's calendar can follow them wherever they go. If used consistently, juggling multiple classes with multiple assignments and due dates should be no problem for students. The quick and easy monitoring of assignments and other projects shows students that staying organized isn't as hard as it may seem.

Without using Teachers.io , manually adding classes and assignments can become tedious, and schools and districts will need to determine if the pop-up ads and third-party rewards system are appropriate for students. More accessibility options for students or a badging system to encourage regular use would improve myHomework's viability as a long-term scheduling solution. Paired with Teachers.io, organizational skills can be sharpened when using this app; without consistent use and support from a teacher, students may just go back to paper agendas -- or nothing at all.

Learning Rating

Overall rating.

Keeping up with class assignments and due dates is easy with this simple, digital planner. With the ability for profiles to synch to a variety of devices, students will never be without their schedules.

Productivity is the main focus of myHomework Student Planner. While this tool doesn't lend itself to one particular subject, it does help students to be more organized in all areas -- if used consistently.

Beyond initial text descriptions and a FAQ, there really isn't much support for students. Video tutorials and accessibility features would go a long way to making the tool easier for students to develop organizational habits.

6 Homework Apps to Help Keep You Organized

homework apps

Managing everything you have to do as a student can seem like a full-time job. With so many classes, activities, club meetings, and homework assignments thrown at you every day, it can be very overwhelming to keep track of it all.

Luckily, there are some great homework apps you can install on your phone or tablet that can help you know what classes you have coming up each day and stay on top of all of your assignments.

Here are six of our favorites. We hope these help you stay organized all year long!

Although the myHomework app supports traditional school schedules as well as block schedules, it does not support alternating block schedules, so if you have an A/B schedule, this is probably not the app for you.

  • My Study Life This app is a full-fledged homework management app with its own web application, which is awesome because you can check your assignments from your computer or your phone. Plus, the calendar view shows all of your classes and assignments at the same time, and it shows you incomplete tasks that are due soon so you know what to work on first. The design is unique, too, with circles showing what percentage of a task is completed and how much more you have to go. Available for: iPhone, Android, Windows 8, Windows Phone and the web. Requires iOS 8.0 or later. Cost: Free

Another cool feature is that you can organize all of your assignments by date, course or priority, and you can sort them by pending and completed as well. Other bonus features include the ability to add contact info for all of your teachers and the ability to enter your grades so you can track how your GPA is doing.

Unfortunately, none of the apps listed above will actually do your homework for you — that part’s still up to you — but at least they’ll make it more likely that you’ll get it finished on-time and stress-free.

The organization was established over 50 years ago and works “to change the trajectory of high-potential Black youth by providing unique programming in the classroom and beyond.” Their scholars complete a four-year fellowship that includes academic enrichment, leadership development, career exposure, mentoring and college access.

Students must maintain a grade point average near 3.0 to remain in good standing with the organization — a bar the organization sets knowing full well that access to scholarships and grants for college will be the only way that most of its students can afford to go. Not all students meet this threshold despite mentoring from caring adults and strong support from administrative staff. Thus additional academic supports are needed.

Over many years, EE provided programs to help get students back on track if they started to flounder and to establish academic habits that put them on a trajectory for success. We started by offering weekly group tutoring events at the organization’s facility that not only helped students with homework completion and exam prep but also provided lessons on learning strategies, goal setting, and self-advocacy. However, traveling to the facility after school was a burden for some scholars, so EE tutors also met students at libraries and other public locations to provide support in specific subject areas where students requested help. Year after year we met with administrators and added additional resources: a summer school study skills workshop for freshmen and final exam prep workshops for all grade levels. Our unique array of programs allowed the organization to support their scholars at every stage of their academic journey.

The mission of the organization is to fight for economic mobility among highly motivated, first-generation college students by providing mentoring and intensive career development. The agency was founded on the belief that socioeconomic status should not be a barrier to college persistence and career success.

Their staff found that many of their participants were struggling with writing assignments of all sorts in college. From essays in English class to writing cover letters for potential summer internships, many students were not effective writers. The organization provided various career development workshops throughout the academic year, but they lacked a writer’s workshop to specifically address this area of weakness.

We met with program managers and the executive director to discuss their students’ needs and what type of program would be beneficial. The Writer’s Practice Workshop was an ideal fit for them. The course allowed students to understand that everyone is a writer even if they don’t think of themselves as such. Over the course of four sessions students assessed their own writing process; discussed the tools of a good writer’s practice; considered the audience, purpose, and the needs of any piece; and produced writing on topics that were important to them. Students left the workshop with a greater understanding of how to start assignments and follow steps to revise, edit, and polish for best results, giving them confidence in their writing.

The organization’s mission is to provide opportunities for underserved youth to achieve academic and personal success via financial, educational and personal support during their high school years. They provide tuition assistance to attend a high-quality school along with the guidance and commitment of caring, adult mentors. They aim to serve an often overlooked segment: academically “average” students from the city’s most challenging and underserved neighborhoods.

Program staff wanted to help their students prepare for final exams and train mentors to more effectively support students in their exam prep efforts. Volunteer mentors were available to give support, but the organization lacked a consistent approach on how best to help students and make them better learners.

EE met with program administrators and board members to plan and implement a Final Exams Workshop in the lead-up to final exams. The 3-hour workshop was attended by students and their mentors on a Saturday morning. The curriculum helped students create DIY study guides for any class, plan a study schedule, prioritize final exams by difficulty and need, assess and discuss their strengths and weaknesses in regards to learning strategies, and share with peers their successes or concerns. We also facilitated a conversation between mentors and mentees as to how they could best support their students in the coming weeks. Students and mentors left the workshop with a blueprint for attacking finals week in the most efficient way — a plan they could use for high school and college.

The organization supported immigrants and their families by connecting women from over 60 countries who share a dedication to the pursuit of global understanding and universal human rights. As part of their philanthropic arm, the organization supported a local elementary school they had identified as highly diverse with a large number of immigrant students. Before engaging EE, the organization relied mostly on volunteers to provide reading support to students during school hours.

After discussions with the organization and the school principal, teachers, families, and other stakeholders, we developed a school year calendar of after school programs that would help students develop the skills needed to succeed in elementary school and beyond. We provided courses for grades 5-8 in the spring and fall, greatly expanding the enrichment opportunities the NFP was able to provide. In doing so, we developed a close relationship with the school administration and their teaching staff, who saw the positive impact the program was having on their students. Additionally, the NFP was able to expand their mission to areas where they saw a great need: improving study skills, raising test scores, and increasing access to high school opportunities for immigrant youth.

A scholarship foundation funded by a suburban country club was disappointed with the caliber of student who typically applied for their college scholarship offerings. Knowing that the skills needed for success in college must be cultivated from an early age, they wanted to establish a summer enrichment program for students entering 9th and 10th grade that would serve as an early intervention and better position the pool of applicants when the time came a few years later to apply for the college scholarships.

We collaborated with the foundation to identify areas of strength and weakness in their applicant pool and listened to their personal beliefs about what it takes to succeed in college. With that understanding, we customized a version of the Summer Learners’ Workshop that lays the foundation for college-level skills and caters to the learning styles and academic backgrounds of the particular students at this organization.

The resulting program has gained a reputation as one of the top summer enrichment experiences in that community with parents routinely reporting that the results exceeded their expectations. The program is now attended by an even wider array of students than those who were first targeted by the foundation.

A charter school network was seeking to implement a test prep program across eight campuses to prepare their 8th grade students for the Chicago Public Schools selective enrollment entrance exam. The high school admissions process is highly competitive, and it was the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic when students were learning from home. The schools did not have expert knowledge about the contents of the test, and finding staff at their schools to cover a program outside of school hours would be challenging. Administrators knew how competitive the admissions process was and that even their strongest students were not guaranteed a spot. For equity, they wanted to offer the course to all of their students – even those who were very unlikely to be admitted to a selective enrollment school.

Given the wide array of students, the EE team worked with individual school counselors to create ability groupings, determine a process for reporting attendance, progress, and behavior issues, and create a curriculum that would be effective in a remote learning model. We knew that remote engagement for an after school program would be a challenge, so we incorporated competitive team games, a leaderboard of accomplishments, and other incentives to encourage maximum participation. EE provided all management and instructional staffing to deliver the test prep course successfully while freeing up teachers and counselors at the charter school to focus on their daily workload. Students received a robust course focused on strategies, practice tests, and concept review that put them in the best position to maximize their potential on test day.

A leading scholarship fund that provides financial assistance for highly qualified, low-income students knew that financial aid alone would be insufficient to ensure their students’ success at rigorous private and parochial high schools. Therefore, they sought an intensive summer program to prepare scholars for what lay ahead.

EE worked with the organization to determine the biggest challenges scholars would face. We landed on a wide array of non-cognitive skills that are not necessarily taught in middle school: time management, organization, self-advocacy, focus, growth mindset, etc. Inspired by this challenge, we developed our Ideal Student Workshop, which would later become the basis for our Learners’ Workshop.

Over a decade later we are still delivering the program to students at this scholarship fund and others. The program works to develop the three dimensions of successful students: character, learning strategies and habits. We update the program yearly to keep up with changes in student needs and the educational landscape. Our fun and research-based curriculum continues to be a popular summer bridge for various organizations.

A prominent sports-based youth development organization wanted to improve one of the core elements of their program: providing educational enrichment programs to their participants.

Their goal was to offer a continuum of services for 9th-12th graders that would support students in their schoolwork, provide a pathway to college, and create a culture of learning amongst players. EE was uniquely positioned to offer a variety of services to meet this need: private tutoring, study skills classes, writing courses, high school admissions test prep, SAT/ACT prep, and college readiness seminars. We listened to the players, parents, and other stakeholders to determine which programs were most effective, established expectations for participants, and decided on the best timing and format to deliver the courses.

Since 2017 we have successfully delivered these services allowing their administrative team to focus on their primary coaching responsibilities. Ultimately, the best praise we have received is that we have provided a wide circle of caring adults to support students academically and emotionally and that we have listened to their needs and adapted our offerings to suit their participants.

This app is extremely helpful with keeping track of all schoolwork and assignments. I’ve been using it for about two-three months now and it has literally saved me. I’ve tried out other apps to keep track of schoolwork, but this one is by far the best, because it allows you to streamline your process, all you need to do is quickly enter the title of your assignment, due date, and choose the class it belongs to, then instead of trying to keep track of your assignments in your head (if you’re anything like me you will forget half of them exist), you can just open that app and it provides a clear view of exactly what you need to get done. I’ve started to use this app to even keep track of meetings and other things outside of school because it works so well. A nice benefit is that for the necessary features it doesn’t require you to pay, although the premium version does allow you to have a few nice perks. Other apps sometimes require you to pay for features that are necessary, such as adding more than a set amount of assignments, but with MyHomework you get free reign, even with the free version. My only slight issue is that it doesn’t work very well in the multitasking view on iPad. Other than that, this app is amazing and I would highly recommend it.

Great App! Small Glitch

I have been using this app for over a year, and let me say that this has saved my grades. I have a physical planner where I write down my homework, but by the middle of the year, I always seem to forget to write it down. Since I’m on my phone a lot, it’s so convenient to be able to quickly jot it down in this app. Literally, I could be relaxing and then I’ll get a notification that I have an assignment due tomorrow which I completely would’ve forgotten to do. It’s also convenient as a schedule since you can write down the name of your teacher, the room number, and the time/period your class starts. Even the color coding feature is super helpful since you remember what class the assignment is for easily and it’s great for aesthetic purposes. My only issue is right now is this glitch. I recently upgraded from an iPhone 6 to and iPhone 7. I noticed that there’s the whole screen is kinda shifted up from where it should be and some of the words get cut off, so I don’t know what I’m reading or writing down. It’s pretty annoying, so I hope you guys fix that asap.

Switched from paper planner to this app

Im a sophomore in high school and i often get slot of homework. School plus extracurricular means i have a very busy schedule and need something to help me stay organized. Before this app i used a paper planner which was great but sometimes inconvenient if i wanted to check if i had plans on a certain day or have homework due on a certain day but i don’t have my planner on me. So now that the new year 2024 has started i needed a new planner but i decided instead of buying on that i would look for a app. i tried one app b4 this which u didn’t like bc it didn’t have a calendar and you could put events or remídete . superrr inconvenient. This app literally had everything that I need and i can log what hw i have right when the teacher says it instead of having to get my planner and write it down . I’m super thankful for it . I recommend this app to any other high school student w extracurriculars and sometimes a busy schedule. ALSO this app works for ppl with A Days and B day schedule 👍👍👍👍👍

Google's Find My Device could soon get UWB and AR upgrades (APK teardown)

Published on June 6, 2024

Google Find my Device

  • Code within the Find My Device app suggests that Google is working on adding support for UWB tech to the network.
  • We’ve also found code referencing AR actions, which speculatively ties in nicely with the precision finding feature that UWB tech enables.
  • Neither of these features is currently live and may or may not roll out in the future.

Google’s Find My Device received a sorely delayed but much-needed upgrade recently. You can tap into the omnipresence of Android phones and tablets around you to locate your lost Android device, supercharging the Find My Device network to a scale that rivals and even beats Apple’s Find My network. However, Apple’s Find My network still edges out ahead when it comes to utilizing ultra-wideband (UWB) tech , even though several Android flagships also come with UWB. Google could finally be working on using UWB with Find My Device, and it could also spice it up with an AR upgrade.

Find My Device could soon get UWB support

We’ve located code references in the latest Find My Device v3.1.078-1 app update that indicate Google is working on UWB features.

We’ve spotted plenty of mentions of UWBAdapter libraries and numerous other UWB mentions.

Find My Device UWB clues

Google hasn’t yet mentioned utilizing UWB tech within Find My Device, so this code spotting is quite the news. It’s also the next logical upgrade for the Find My Device network.

Apple equips several of its devices with UWB tech to enable high-precision indoor location tracking. UWB is also the not-so-secret sauce behind AirTag’s precise location tracking feature, which comes in very handy if you have located the general area of your lost item but still need help pinpointing where exactly it is.

Find My Device could soon let you use AR too

Alongside the UWB mentions, we’ve also spotted code mentions for ARCore support within Find My Device. Some of the strings are mentioned below:

The code is just the initial implementation for ARCore (aka Google Play Services for AR), so it’s not immediately clear what features ARCore will enable.

Speculatively, ARCore ties in well with UWB support for precision finding. You could point your device in front of you, and ARCore could use the camera feed and overlay it with directions and icons to help you find your device in your immediate vicinity (which is what UWB support will enable).

We see some of this in action with the Galaxy SmartTag 2 , which uses UWB tech on Samsung’s SmartThings network and also uses AR for the item location UI.

samsung galaxy smarttag 2 nearby find uwb

The caveat with the Galaxy SmartTag 2 is that it needs a Samsung Galaxy phone with UWB tech to work and further needs the SmartThings app for its location functionality.

Since AR support for UWB is not specifically mentioned yet, there is a possibility that the AR-based UI could be available more generally within Find My Device and not remain restricted to UWB trackers and devices.

If and when Google adds UWB support to Find My Device, we predict it will usher in a new generation of Android trackers that will work more broadly across Android devices. With an AR-based UI, Android will have a slight edge in locating lost items nearby until Apple catches up with the same trick.

Neither UWB support nor the AR-based location UI are currently live within the Find My Device app. These features may or may not roll out in the future.

Opening a webpage inside an app is about to get a little more pleasant — in some Android apps, at least. The Chrome M124 update adds the ability to open in-app webpages in picture-in-picture mode, letting you swap between the webpage and the app without closing your browsing session.

The feature is coming to the Android apps that use Chrome Custom Tabs , which let developers provide customized browsing experiences within their apps. If it’s available in an app you use, you’ll see a new down arrow in the top-left corner of an in-app webpage. Tap the arrow, and the webpage will minimize into a floating window in the bottom-right corner of the screen. You can tap the window to open the tab back up.

This feature actually seems pretty handy. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to close an in-app webpage to refer to something inside the app, only to lose whatever I was looking at. The feature is only available in apps that use Chrome-based mobile browsers for now, but hopefully others will follow suit.

As of February 2022, Android apps are available in the stable channel of Windows 11---but only in the US. If you meet the requirements for Windows 11 , you meet the requirements for Android apps as well. Make sure to check for Windows updates and install any that are available before proceeding.

Second, your Windows 11 PC must have hardware virtualization enabled. Windows 11 essentially runs Android in a virtual machine, which is why this is necessary. You can check if your PC has virtualization enabled by going to the "Performance" tab in the Task Manager. (You can press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager .)

If hardware virtualization isn't enabled, you will likely need to enable Intel VT-X in your computer's UEFI firmware (BIOS) . If your system has an AMD chip instead, look for AMD-V in the UEFI firmware settings screen .

Click "Install."

The app will download and then install. When it's finished, you can click "Open."
