*NOTE: This plan also requires a $110 one-time setup fee and a $110 year-end fee. Prices are also for a single employee. With Complete Payroll there is an additional fee per employee of $65 each quarter if you pay more than one nanny or household worker. For example, if you pay three employees, this will cost an additional $130 that quarter (the first employee is included in the base price).

Essential Payroll

For call-out box .

The $165 per quarter Essential Payroll plan includes payroll withholding calculations, payroll tax payment and return preparation, and generation of payroll tax forms. It also includes unlimited customer support.

The Essential Payroll plan includes concierge-quality customer service. Their proactive support team will reach out to inform you of any major payroll changes and updates, such as increases or decreases in state payroll tax rates.

HomeWork Solutions will prepare payroll tax returns and generate tax forms, like Form 1040 Schedule H and W-2s. HomeWork Solutions will also make tax payments and file reports on a customer’s behalf.

However, in the Essential plan, the employer is responsible for paying their employees. If you would like to have HomeWork Solutions handle your employee payments, you’ll have to upgrade to the Complete plan.

Keep in mind that the $165 quarterly fee does not include the $110 set up fee or $110 year-end fee. You will also pay an additional fee if you choose to have your payroll taxes deducted from a credit card instead of a bank account.

Complete Payroll

For call out box .

The Complete Payroll plan is $220 per quarter for those on a biweekly payroll schedule and $245 per quarter for those who run payroll weekly. The plan includes everything from the Essential Payroll plan, plus employee payment, record keeping, and a dedicated payroll specialist.

The Complete Payroll plan from HomeWork Solutions includes all of the features and benefits from the Essential Payroll plan, plus employee payment services. There are also two different pricing structures, depending on how often you pay your staff (biweekly or weekly).

If you choose the Complete plan, HomeWork Solutions will maintain your payroll records. You’re also able to pay your employees through direct deposit and you’ll receive text alerts and access to pay stubs. The Complete Payroll plan also comes with a dedicated payroll representative to assist you with any issues.

As with the Essential Payroll plan, Complete plan pricing does not include the set-up fee or year-end fee. However, unlike the Essential plan, there are no pricing differences for tax collection preferences.

Payroll Service

HomeWork Solutions takes care of all quarterly and annual employment tax forms, filings and remittances. They also guarantee the accuracy of their work. Through the HomeWork Solutions online tools, customers can calculate and store periodic payroll information, including tax deductions.

Each quarter, HomeWork solutions receives your files and makes all of the necessary tax calculations for you. They will alert you of any tax updates and changes and coordinate tax-related correspondence with the government.

Customers also have the option to pay their employees via the Essentials plan, or have HomeWork Solutions handle employee payment through the pricier Complete plan.

Hiring and Onboarding Tools

HomeWork Solutions partners with NannyVerify.com for customers who wish to perform nanny or caregiver background checks. There are several different types of background checks available as well as add-on services.

A basic background check, including a single-county criminal record check, starts at $34.95.

The Homework website is user-friendly. The plans are easy to find, with good detail on features and pricing. You can even get more information on each individual service. It’s laid out well and easy to understand.

The site also has a robust help center where you can get information on a variety of topics.

How’s the mobile experience?

Unlike some other payroll service providers, HomeWork Solutions does not have a mobile app. But customers can manage their account through the web portal.

Quick and Easy Cancellation?

HomeWork Solutions customers can cancel their service plan by contacting customer service. Here is what is listed on their website:

HomeWork Solutions is committed to meeting your needs and ensuring your complete satisfaction. Should you need to cancel for any reason, the unused portion of your prepaid annual service fee will be cheerfully refunded. Regretfully, the one time account registration fee (account establishment) is non-refundable.

The HomeWork solutions website is quite user-friendly, and information is easy to find. If you have all your information handy, you can complete the signup process in less than 30 minutes.

The site is not very “salesy” and simply seems to guide you toward the right plan for your own personal payroll needs. It also offers an excellent customer experience.

We tested all three forms of HomeWork Solutions customer support, as detailed below.

Chat support

The HomeWork Solutions chat support feature is essentially just a contact form. There is no live chat support, but you can call customer support within the timeframe below:

Phone support

We called HomeWork Solutions’ customer support and reached a live representative in less than one minute. We asked them about their tax support guarantee and how it worked. The representative was very cordial and polite, and gave us some details.

Essentially, although HomeWork Solutions guarantees accuracy, it is ultimately up to the customer to provide them with accurate data in the first place. If the data provided is incorrect, the company cannot be held responsible for any payroll errors that result.

They also mentioned that they are not tax advisors. You can read more about this in HomeWork Solutions’ terms of service .

Email support

In the Contact Us section of the website, we completed the form and asked how long it would take to get our account set up after purchasing services and paying the set up fee. A friendly representative got back to us the next day and told us that the turnaround time for account set up depends on the customer, but typically takes 5-7 business days.

Overall, HomeWork Solutions’ services offer advantages and drawbacks, as detailed below.

  • Proactive customer service
  • Many happy customers
  • Competitive pricing structure
  • Experts on household employees
  • Guaranteed accuracy of tax calculations
  • Limited HR and benefits resources
  • No mobile app
  • Extra required fees

HomeWork Solutions was founded in 1993 and is currently headquartered in Sterling, Virginia. The firm is a trusted leader in concierge-level household payroll and employment tax compliance services for over 50,000 families across the country.

HomeWork claims that its FPC-certified payroll experts have processed more than half a million tax returns for household employers.

ADP services are priced by quote only and include a more robust suite of payroll, HR, and benefits features than the HomeWork Solutions plans. ADP also has an A+ rating with the BBB, though its customer review score is low.

The base plan from Paychex is less costly than HomeWork’s plans and comes with a more robust employee benefits service. Paychex has 24/7 customer service, while HomeWork only has customer support during business hours. Paychex has an A+ rating with the BBB, though its customer review score is low.

Gusto has three plans, and their base plan is cheaper than HomeWork Solutions’ plans. The high-level Gusto plans include more features, though Gust has an F rating with the BBB.

Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

body-gold-piggy-bank-money

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

body-photomath-logo-2

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

  • Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
  • Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

body-studtypool-logo

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

body_stophand

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

I am currently having a dispute with this company that they are slow to resolve. Their solutions so far have been unacceptable. Their replies to my submissions of payroll data say they will follow my instructions; however, they have not been doing that and process data for employees based upon their defaults rather than my submissions. If this company does not soon provide an acceptable solution (refund of 100% of the payments they made in error), then it's time to take our business to another provider.

Helpful and Effective Service

HomeWork Solutions takes all the hassle out of dealing with employee taxes, and for that I am grateful. However, they do make errors and are often behind in updating their software to reflect changes in tax laws, resulting in miscalculations that have to be corrected after the fact. Their prices keep going up and up as well, which is never a good thing...

Glad to hear we are making things easy on you. It sounds like we need to be a bit clearer in explaining how states sometime update unemployment tax rates mid-year, and how this can require payroll corrections mid-year. Certainly something we will work to improve upon. Regarding price changes, we have had only one price increase (5%) in the past 5 years. We're investing in technology upgrades to make payroll processing even easier for our clients and their employees, with no price increases planned at this time. I think you'll like what you see, but please do reach out to us if you feel you are not getting value for the price you pay.

I couldn't have managed without them

I couldn't have managed my father's at-home care and everything else that was going on with his health had I not had HomeWork Solutions doing the heavy lifting with tax filings. I did not even know such a service existed, but I was so glad to have them recommended to me. They made everything easy. And for anyone tasked with taking care of a loved one, anything made easier is golden.

Easy and Reliable

This service makes life so easy. We hired a nanny and they handled all of our payroll service and dealings with the state and federal government. All I had to do was report our hours each week and then the pay was directly withdrawn and drafted into my employee’s account. This service is perfect for anyone who has employees who work in and around the home.

Thanks Max! Easy is what we aim to provide. Happy to hear that we delivered!

I was happy and pleased to work with…

I was happy and pleased to work with the staff, especially Luz Rodriguez. She helped me keep track of payroll dates and assisted me several times to resolve some issues. That being said, I did have problems between payroll due dates and dates needed by Homework Solutions to submit to the bank. That info was not presented clearly. The payroll dates on the calendar were too small for seniors and disabled people to read. I mentioned this several times, nothing was corrected. The Support at Home staff finally corrected this for clients. Additionally, I did not KNOW the option of sending hours by e-mail, or getting e-mail reminders until I asked about it. This option should be stated in the introduction, as phones lines are often busy when reporting hours. Given the inherent difficulty of the elderly and disabled, it is imperative that you listen to feedback so you can better serve the needs of this community.Thank you for asking for this feedback. Maria Gonzalez, client

Homework Solutions provides me with…great quality service at an affordable price.

Homework Solutions provides me with high qualify payroll services at an affordable price. When I and other clients had problems with the VA Department of Revenue, the people at HWS were on it. They worked with the state to fix the problem for us all. I used a big payroll company before finding HWS. It was expensive, and the service was terrible (they would "forget" to process my payroll but still charge me for it!). I switched over 10 years ago, and have been happy ever since.

Excellent job

HomeWork Solutions is doing excellent job, they are always very helpful and responsive. Never had any issues with correctness of information, and am always able to reach them by phone when needed. The only minor challenge I have had is the short duration from the end of the reporting period to the deadline for submitting the timesheet, which is less than 24 hours. The timesheet has to be signed by both the employer and the employee, which makes it tricky especially when I am travelling for work.

Misunderstanding

FIRSTLY, I have no problem when admitting when I am wrong I spoke negatively of this company with quick judgement of false information. They have actually gone above and beyond for myself as well as my employer. I’m very thankful for the prompt response and assistance and and again my deepest apologies for the rude comment.

We are sorry that there have been delays with your payment, but please know that we always strive to ensure every paycheck is delivered on time and accurately. HomeWork Solutions relies upon employers to provide accurate banking and payroll data in order to deliver payments on time. In the case of your first few checks, we received inaccurate information that led to the delays. Your employer was notified immediately and we have worked with them and the care management platform on which your employment was arranged to resolve the issues. Please feel free to contact us at 800-626-4829 and speak with your assigned payroll specialist (Em), who has been working with your employer to raise and resolve these issues. We would be happy to assist in any way we can.

The HomeWork Solutions team is great

The HomeWork Solutions team is great. Its members are informed, responsive and a delight to deal with. We have used HWS for many years to handle our domestic payroll issues. Once we signed up, we didn’t have to worry about any aspect of our employees’ payroll or taxes.

Happy to hear that we have made things simple for you, Luke! We appreciate the review.

The team is responsive and flexible

The team is responsive and flexible. It is extraordinarily easy to submit hours and their tax prep work has been perfect. I recommend HomeWork Solutions to anyone who needs a provider to take the guess work out of the payroll and tax process.

HWS expert for nanny payroll taxes

HWS has been expertly handling our nanny payroll matters for over a year. The personnel are responsive and flexible and make it as easy as possible. Absolutely reliable and we will continue to use their services!

Very quick to answer any questions

Very quick to answer any questions. They take care of everything, especially when setting up as a new customer. Great communication on deadlines, etc. great at tax time, too.

Nice and quiet

The beauty of HomeWork Solutions is that they are virtually invisible onceeverything is established. Invoices come and go with regularity, but otherwise, they are not a constant nagging appearance in your inbox. When tax time comesaround, they are ahead of you with necessary documents. You CAN get more involved. They send quarterly reports and ask for feedback. We have been blessed to have rather quickly found quality.compatible caregivers for our situation through CARELINX and have had little to say. But opportunities exist to be more involved. The beauty is YOU DON'T HAVE TO. So...We like the service. It took us a while to get everything setup and our first tax year we were confused, but now that we have been with it a couple years. We are very happy.

So far, so good!

Will know much more after IRS reviews the documents Homework solutions prepared for my mother, who is employing two caregivers through Carelinx, Inc. Her tax documents were sent in a timely manner, and appeared to be as accurate as we were able to ascertain.

Nice interface and easy enrollment.

Nice interface and easy enrollment. Made multiple mistakes on taxes though and most glaringly forgot to pay our employee once! The missed payment was not even recognized until we contacted them.

Homework Solutions income tax filing issues

All your help was great except I could have used a more detailed explanation of how all the tax info was to be used on the tax forms. I ended up double paying one of the fees(can't remember which one) and had to file an amendment. I was just lucky I found the error somehow.

Payroll Tax Anxiety? Use HWS

Trying to handle taxes on your own with one employee in your household is extremely difficult. HomeWork Solutions has been remarkably professional yet courteous and friendly. They take away any anxiety with submitting taxes to local townships and counties, the state and the federal government. Without hesitation I would recommend them for handling taxes for a nanny or a caregiver.

Thanks for the great review! You highlight just how complex things can get with local county and township taxes in some states. We work hard to stay on top of those and to make that anxiety disappear!

HWS's service is meticulous and prompt

HWS's service is meticulous and prompt. On the rare occasion when they've made an error they've cleared up the situation quickly and fully. I trust HWS to make sure I'm doing the right thing by my employee and the IRS.

Electric Cars Are Suddenly Becoming Affordable

More efficient manufacturing, falling battery costs and intense competition are lowering sticker prices for battery-powered models to within striking distance of gasoline cars.

Three electric vehicles parked at a dealership. There are several yellow school buses in the background.

By Jack Ewing

Alex Lawrence, a dealer in Salt Lake City who specializes in used electric cars, has seen a change over the last year in the kinds of customers who are coming into his showroom. They used to be well-heeled professionals who could drop $70,000 on a Rivian luxury pickup truck.

Recently, Mr. Lawrence said, customers have been snapping up used Teslas for a little over $20,000, after applying a $4,000 federal tax credit.

“We’re seeing younger people,” Mr. Lawrence said. “We are seeing more blue-collar and entry-level white-collar people. The purchase price of the car has suddenly become in reach.”

Regarded by conservative politicians and other critics as playthings of the liberal elite, electric vehicles are fast becoming more accessible. Prices are falling because of increased competition, lower raw-material costs and more efficient manufacturing. Federal tax credits of up to $7,500 for new electric cars, often augmented by thousands of dollars in state incentives, push prices even lower.

At the same time, technology is improving quickly and making electric vehicles more practical. Cars that can travel more than 300 miles on a fully charged battery are becoming common, and charging times are dropping below 30 minutes. The number of fast chargers, which can top up a battery in less than half an hour, grew 36 percent from April 2023 to April 2024.

Carmakers including Tesla, Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, the owner of Jeep, have announced plans for electric vehicles that would sell new for as little as $25,000.

Killing congestion pricing was a good call for NY and NJ. We need a better plan

3-minute read.

homework solutions pricing

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s decision to indefinitely delay congestion pricing was a welcome and necessary step to prevent significant financial and economic hardship on both sides of the Hudson.

It’s critical that we don’t let this reprieve go to waste. We must use this time to reevaluate the initial proposal and come up with a mechanism that truly achieves — in a fair and equitable manner — the stated goals of reducing traffic, combatting pollution, and generating funds for public transit.

We need a better congestion pricing plan

To be clear, simply kicking the can down the road by delaying a bad plan until political and economic circumstances change is not a solution and it does nothing to address the negative impact the current plan would have on consumers and businesses.

Few better understand street congestion than the truck drivers who deliver nearly 90% of all goods in New York City to businesses and homes across the five boroughs. The ubiquitous nature of trucks, and their role as the foundation of the city’s economy, ties the industry’s financial wellbeing to that of all consumers.

Our industry should have been front and center in the discussion leading up to New York’s congestion pricing plan. Sadly, our input fell on deaf ears, which led to an unfair — and we believe, unconstitutional — tolling proposal that would have disproportionately impacted trucks, and by extension, their customers and consumers.

Our legal challenge to the now-delayed congestion pricing plan still stands, and we are troubled by the MTA CEO’s pledge to continue to fight our lawsuit and others even as the proposal’s fate — at least in the governor’s eyes — is sealed.

Under that plan, trucks would be charged $24 or $36 per trip into the congestion zone below 60th Street in Manhattan, depending on their size, for delivering essential goods that keep the economy humming. By contrast, passenger vehicles — who by and large have alternative options via rail, bus or subway — would have been charged $15 once a day.

Advocates will sue: NYC congestion pricing advocates plan lawsuit to keep Hochul from halting toll

Mike Kelly: In NYC congestion pricing fight, suburban voters trumped infrastructure investment

We need a pricing framework that is more flexible

A closer look shows how misguided this pricing framework truly is. The truth is that this was a pre-pandemic method to generate revenue for the long-cash-strapped MTA masquerading as an effort to combat climate change. Desperate for new revenue, the MTA was in a bind. Its ill-guided answer was to target the one industry that cannot control its own traffic patterns and is therefore held hostage to any toll structure the authority might decide to impose.

Logistics companies make deliveries when businesses request them. And since most businesses function during peak business hours, that’s when most deliveries occur — to say nothing of the next-day at-home delivery that New Yorkers of all backgrounds now take for granted. They also must enter the zone as often as requested, making per-entry tolling schemes even more burdensome.

Not only must trucks enter the Manhattan business district during peak times, but they also have no alternative method of delivery. It is impossible to move heavy freight — or even basic consumer goods, for that matter – via the Metro North, Path, Long Island Railroad, or the D train. That is not a choice. It is just reality. And the MTA knows it.

The MTA also knows the original congestion pricing plan would not reduce traffic — only relocate it above 60th Street to neighborhoods like the South Bronx and Harlem, which share some of the highest rates of air pollution and related health impacts like asthma.

To be clear, the trucking industry is not opposed to the concept of congestion pricing and supports investment in public transportation. As such, we encourage the MTA to restructure the original congestion pricing plan or seek alternative methods of funding.

Exempting trucks from any future proposal is an obvious option, as is capping fees to once a day and implementing pricing parity with passenger vehicles. Any funding plan must be crafted under fair conditions that do not create a Hunger Games scenario, pitting one industry against another.

The process to date has been anything but fair. All we are seeking is an opportunity to be heard and improve a bad plan to the benefit of all New Yorkers, and we appreciate the governor’s actions that make this a possibility.

Kendra Hems is the president of The Trucking Association of New York.

DISCUSSION THREAD

10 thoughts on “HOMEWORK 7.A - SUM 24”

Is summing the moments from each force using cross products a correct approach to part b? Is there a better approach using couples/equivalence?

Yes, this is correct way to solve the problem.

Choosing the measuring point of the moment will be important to minimize your calculations. For example, calculating the moment from point B means that you will only need to calculate two cross products.

Thanks for the advice. I chose to work with point E, D, and B in order to determine my equivalent couple.

How do I find the load P and angle. Would P be considered part of the sum of the forces and if so, how compared to the Z axis?

Use Force balance equation in x and z direction. you will be able to find the x and z components of P. Use these two components to find the direction of your force vector and alpha.

Thank you once again. I was lost for a second but it's very straight-forward. Just to be sure, would the value of load P be in the negative direction?

Do you mean the direction of the load P? The direction of the load P should be the same as the red arrow in the figure

Which point would we use to calculate the position vectors in order to calculate the moments for part B? I used the point at (0,0,0), would this work?

Yes, this will work. you could try calculating the moment from different point and you will get the same answer. (Tip : selecting the suitable point could minimize your calculation)

New Tax Advantaged Health Insurance Options for Household Employees

Tax Advantaged Nanny Healthcare Reimbursement Plans

The health insurance marketplace continues to change, and starting 1 January 2020 employers of nannies, senior caregivers, and other household employees will have a new choice for assisting or supporting their employees with their health insurance and other health care expenses.

The strong employment situation we are enjoying today means there is even more competition for the top home care talent. Many employers are finding that a compensation package - including both wage and benefits - is necessary to hire and retain the highly qualified workers. Studies consistently show that workers prize health benefits and paid time off over all other workplace perks.

Remember, an employer sponsored tax advantaged healthcare reimbursement benefit is a part of a total compensation package, and tax advantaged healthcare reimbursement can BOTH reduce employer out of pocket expenses and increase caregiver take home pay!

Since 2017 the only option small employers had was a QSEHRA (Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement). Starting January 2020 ICHRA (Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement) enters the mix. Which one is right for you?

EMPLOYEE MUST HAVE QUALIFIED HEALTH INSURANCE? YES YES
TAX ADVANTAGED? YES YES
ANNUAL CONTRIBUTION LIMITS 2020 $5,250 INDIVIDUAL;  $10,600 FAMILY NONE
REPORTED ON W-2? YES YES
ROLLOVER ALLOWED? YES; MONTH TO MONTH AND YEAR TO YEAR ANNUAL REIMBURSEMENT CANNOT EXCEED ANNUAL CAPS YES; MONTH TO MONTH AND YEAR TO YEAR
PREMIUM TAX SUBSIDY AVAILABLE TO EMPLOYEE?
PLAN DOCUMENTS REQUIRED? YES YES
NOTICE REQUIRED? YES YES

Both the QSEHRA and ICHRA allow employers to reimburse employees tax-free for individual health insurance premiums and other medical expenses. This means that neither the employer or employee pay payroll taxes on the benefit, and the employee does not pay income tax either.

Both plans allow the employer to establish the total budget for the benefit (QSEHRA not to exceed annual limits). Employers find this attractive because they can set it and forget it, not being concerned with the changing costs of the employee's underlying health insurance coverage. Additionally, a qualified healthcare reimbursement plan is sheltered from employment taxes (7.65% for both employer and employee) and the nanny's or caregiver's income taxes.

Both plans can be used to reimburse costs for both "qualified plans" and " qualified expenses ." And lastly both plans require formalized (but not complicated) plan documents and notice. HWS has arranged an outsourced administrative option from Take Command Health that will provide you plan documents and handle the administration of approving claims and distributing the reimbursements, including tracking annual limits. You will receive a 30% discount when you use this link to enroll .

KEY TAKE-AWAYS

  • Your covered employee must indicate on their account on their state's health insurance exchange that they are covered by employer sponsored healthcare.
  • If your household employee is covered by a spouse's group health plan and you wish to subsidize her out of pocket co-pays, prescriptions, eyeglasses or dental, QSEHRA is the best option.
  • If your contribution will be less than the amount of the household employee's anticipated tax credit for an ACA compatible plan, a QSEHRA is the best option.
  • If you plan to contribute more than the QSEHRA maximum limits for your household employee, you must choose the ICHRA.
  • The ICHRA  or QSEHRA you offer is employer-sponsored health coverage . This is important to know and communicate to your employee when she applies for health insurance coverage on the Exchange.
  • Important to note if hire a household worker who currently does not have insurance, and you negotiate a compensation package that includes a QSEHRA or ICHRA benefit with your new employee, this is a " qualifying event " and the uninsured employee has 60 days to do a special health insurance enrollment (they do not need to wait for open season).
  • You and your household employee need to work together to determine which plan is best for your circumstances and the employee's circumstances.

WHICH OPTION IS BEST?

The best option for an employer and their household employee is dependent on multiple circumstances, however for the majority of our clients a QSEHRA is the more flexible, presuming that the employer does not plan to contribute more than the annual limits.

In situations where the employer contribution is modest (say $200 per month or $2400 per year) most household employees will find that the QSEHRA is a good choice, as the nanny or other household employee may still remain eligible for the residual tax subsidy on their ACA compliant plan and there is no possibility of exceeding annual plan caps.

A  married household employee with access to coverage on their spouse's employer's group health insurance plan will find the QSEHRA is absolutely the best option. For a single household employee whose employer is offering reimbursement in excess of the applicable tax subsidy both plans are helpful, and the ICHRA may be better if the employer contribution is in excess of the QSEHRA caps.

World Bank clients responsible for 100% of their G-5 domestic's health insurance expense will likely find the ICHRA is a better option as there are no annual limits and the G-5 domestic will not have access to a spouse's group health plan. Most importantly, please remember that the tax advantaged reimbursement plans are a part of a compensation package , and an analysis of the tax implications of the total compensation package is needed to assess the best option for both employer and employee.

It's 10pm and here is your rundown for today's political news...

  • The Conservative Party is heading for its worst electoral defeat in history , according to a poll of almost 20,000 people;
  • The Ipsos poll also suggested  Nigel Farage will win Clacton from the Tories, overturning the incumbent party's huge majority there;
  • It estimated  Labour could win 453 seats, while the Conservatives would take just 115, giving Sir Keir Starmer's party a 256-seat majority ;
  • The result would mean  senior Tory figures such as Grant Shapps, Penny Mordaunt, Gillian Keegan, Johnny Mercer and Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg losing their seats ;
  • Our chief political correspondent Jon Craig   said the poll is "terrible news" for the Tories;
  • Meanwhile former Conservative Party donor John Caudwell has announced he is endorsing and voting for Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party.
  • Our weeknight politics show Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge  focused on the issue of immigration, with Labour's shadow equalities secretary Anneliese Dodds saying the country needs a "clear plan" to tackle migration;
  • During the panel discussion Jim Murphy, former leader of Scottish Labour, said a Labour policy that may work to reduce immigration is "dealing with the gangs in the same way you would deal with terrorists";
  • And former Conservative MP Philip Dunne said the government's Rwanda scheme is a "deterrent" for illegal immigration, but said the UK and France need to cooperate more.
  • In Scotland, Anas Sarwar has today launched Scottish Labour 's manifesto, with a focus on improving the future for young people in the country;
  • He also confirmed that Scottish Labour is against the two-child benefit cap , despite there being no plans to scrap the measure if Labour wins the keys to Downing Street.
  • Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey was in Eastleigh, where he discussed sewage - and claimed the Tories would "fail in opposition" just as he says they have in government;
  • And on a day of special coverage of the migration crisis here on Sky News, an exclusive poll suggested more Britons think immigration has had a negative impact on society than positive.

Here are some other stories you might find interesting:

On the Sky News Daily podcast,  Niall Paterson is joined by community correspondent Becky Johnson   to discuss what voters think about elections, while economics and data editor Ed Conway digs into the statistics to reveal exactly how big an impact migration, both legal and illegal, has on the UK.

Thank you for following our live political coverage as the general election campaign continues.

Please see our 10pm bulletin for the key points of the day's news.

Join us again tomorrow from 7am for the latest political updates.

Earlier we brought you the breaking news that billionaire Tory donor John Caudwell had endorsed Labour (see 7.31pm post).

The Phones4U founder said the "failures" of the three prime ministers in government since then, alongside Labour's "transformation" under leader Sir Keir Starmer had led him to switch allegiance for the first time in his life.

You can read more about his decision  here ...

Covering a general election campaign as a journalist can largely be summed up in two words - battle bus.

Not too dissimilar to the coaches that rockstars use for their tours, battle buses are the vehicles each political party uses to transport their leaders, candidates, and advisers around the country during the election campaign.

Sky's political correspondents have each been following a different party - often joining them on the buses.

Here we take you behind the scenes on the campaign trail for the Conservatives, Labour, and the Liberal Democrats.

By Faye Brown , political reporter

Rishi Sunak's "soaring" personal wealth has come under fresh attack ahead of crucial inflation figures coming out tomorrow.

In what will be a key moment in the election campaign, the rate of inflation is expected to ease back to the Bank of England's target of 2% for the first time since spring 2021.

The figures could provide a much needed boost for the embattled prime minister, whose key offering to voters is that the economy has "turned a corner" under his leadership and they should not risk change with Labour.

But the Labour Party says this claim is "rubbished" by data showing more than half of Brits think the cost of living crisis has become worse in the last month.

The party says that Mr Sunak's wealth increased by £122m in the last year, while data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows millions of people continue to struggle.

Read more below:

More people in the UK think immigration has a negative impact on society than a positive one, according to a YouGov survey for Sky News.

In the first general election since Brexit, all the major parties mention migration in their manifestos.

Both the Conservatives and Labour are placing promises to tackle illegal boat crossings high on their list of promises if they get into Number 10.

So what do voters think about immigration, and how could it affect these elections?

Niall Paterson is joined by community correspondent Becky Johnson , who's been speaking to voters in Swindon about their views.

Plus,  economics and data editor Ed Conway digs into the statistics to reveal exactly how big an impact migration, both legal and illegal, has on the UK.

As we've been discussing this evening, both the Tories and Labour are promising to cut net migration levels - the number of people coming from overseas minus the number leaving.

Our political reporter Alix Culbertson has looked at their immigration policies - and those from the other main parties.

Read the full explainer here ...

The public has "probably seen through Boris Johnson" and he is no longer an asset to the Tory campaign, Jim Murphy, the former leader of Scottish Labour, says during  Sophy Ridge 's final panel discussion.

Mr Johnson has been appearing in campaign videos for a number of his Tory MP allies after reportedly being drafted in to help counter the growing threat from Reform UK.

Mr Murphy says the former prime minister was probably an asset during 2019 but now the public and Tory MPs have seen through him.

"I think the Conservatives are making the mistake that if you play the tune of 2019 it'll work for them in the same way," he adds.

"Involving Johnson at this stage suggests a campaign that has lost its sense of direction, because they're still trying to beat the Reform party rather than try to overcome Labour."

'There are MPs who like him'

Former government adviser Nimco Ali notes Mr Johnson "is popular in certain sectors of the country" and some MPs are leaning towards that.

"I would not think it's a Conservative plan to have him involved, I think it's individual MPs who like him, and he has kindly sent them those videos," she says.

That concludes our coverage of tonight's  Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge  - it'll return tomorrow from 7pm. In the meantime, stick with us here for the latest general election news and analysis.

A poll we reported on earlier is "terrible news" for the Conservatives, says our chief political correspondent Jon Craig .

It's predicting a 256-seat majority for Labour - up on 453 seats and the Tories down on 115 ( see 17.51 post )

Jon says this would be "much worse than 1997", when Tony Blair took Labour back into government, and their worst result since 1906.

But 117 seats are still too close to call in the Ipsos survey, he explains.

But while polls are only a "snapshot" of a campaign, there is a clear "trend" across the various surveys we're seeing.

"They are all fairly similar," Jon says, and it's "terrible news for the Tories".

It's been "double trouble" for the Tories this evening, he adds, given their former donor John Caudwell's endorsement of the Labour Party ( see 19.31 post )

"We don't know if Mr Caudwell is actually going to give some money to the Labour Party, but he's not donating to the Tories, and he's switched his allegiance."

Sophy presses former Conservative MP Philip Dunne on whether the Conservatives think it's all over.

It comes after the prime minister spent the day campaigning in traditionally safe Tory seats in the South West.

Mr Dunne says Rishi Sunak has "been all over the place throughout this campaign".

He says the prime minister "hasn't given up" and has "made it very clear he's fighting, every waking moment, to try to retain the Conservative government and Conservative candidates all over the country".

'No huge surprise' Tory support is waning

Asked if he is worried about the future of the Conservative Party, Mr Dunne, who is not standing in this election, says all political parties in office for a prolonged period "go through sort of waves of enthusiasm and support and waning of support".

He adds: "So it's no huge surprise that the opinion polls are suggesting that our support is declining somewhat at the moment."
