Godfather Movie Review: Chiranjeevi’s Fan Service Walks The Staple Path On Which Leaves Fly Every time He Lifts His Foot
Godfather is an almost three-hour-long chiranjeevi show where gravity is to be forgotten and bullets make men fly..
Star Cast: Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, Satyadev Kancharana, Salman Khan & ensemble.
Director: Mohan Raja
What’s Good: You have to be a Chiranjeevi fan to find the good in here because it is an almost 3-hour fan service worshipping the life of a megastar with some reasonable twists.
What’s Bad: The generic approach where leaves fly when a phenomenon of a star walks on the ground is now done to death and even the dried leaves are bored of it.
Loo Break: As said it is fan service and if you have bought a ticket you are one, so this isn’t a question you will ask.
Watch or Not?: Not with a lot of expectations but a whole lot of old-day Telugu cinema commercial masala.
Language: Telugu (with subtitles).
Available on: In Theatres Near You.
Runtime: 156 Minutes.
A very influential politician, a CM of an unnamed state is dead. Looms the question of who will now take over and the contenders play their cards. But Brahma (Chiranjeevi) knows who is real and who is greedy. How will he tackle things and make the right one win?
Godfather Movie Review: Script Analysis
The commercial Telugu cinema is a celebration of the star power that some iconic names possess and the ritualistic worshiping of it with every frame. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a cinema culture for a landscape that watches films backed by their loved names religiously. But does it mean the audience that watches those movies without being fans is fed the same material zillion times without adding some more substance?
Written by Mohan Raju with Lakshmi Bhupala and Murali Gopy, Godfather is shaped in a way that it celebrates one of South cinema’s biggest megastar, one that has defined the industry in his blooming days, Chiranjeevi. The screenplay begins by making it clear that he is a man not even the FBI can think of messing with. So when he enters the frame with his crisp ironed white kurta, some costly sunglasses, and flamboyance worth a million, you know this is the man who is supposed to win and if you know the track record, he definitely will.
Now the challenge for the makers is to create a story that does not just justify the victory of their already revered protagonist, but also one that is entertaining and worth the whistles that a ticket buyer is planning to blow. In Godfather, the makers do try to include politics of the land, people double-crossing each other, and even more to make it all so complex that the God they have created has to be on his toes to solve it. But all of it even with the biggest of the names ends up looking like a blueprint we have already seen.
Now, I don’t mean that this is an atrocious film that doesn’t deserve to be seen. I would have been flattered if I was a Chiranjeevi fan, because with every frame he is in, the celebration keeps getting louder. But all of this is not new. The man has been in the business for a lifetime and filmmakers have already worshipped him in similar ways enough. So the problem is with the staple routes. And also the idea of making all other actors underplay themselves.
One might think of finding redemption in the action. But when you know Chiranjeevi will come out of combat without even a scratch after beating some 50 men, it is just the wait for when will it end as the movie progresses. Yes, never in the more than 3 fighting sequence does the star gets even one little scratch. Not even a crease on his kurta.
Godfather Movie Review: Star Performance
Chiranjeevi by now knows he doesn’t have to do much to make people love him. They already do and now it is just about the nostalgia factor that he needs to rely upon. To create the gangster he is, the megastar keeps things subtle and lets his action speak. That works too because you at least don’t know what his next move is.
Nayanthara as Satya does as much as the script allows her to. While there is a beautiful trajectory she shares with the megastar, she is kept limited to just that without really letting her vent out her anger or any other emotion.
Satyadev Kancharana plays the villain with all the conviction and makes you hate him. And there is Salman Khan too doing the most Salman Khan he can. He enters a house full of loaded guns wearing a bulletproof jacket this time and I want to give credit to the man who suggested this amazing detail. Also, he has a bike that launches mini missiles? I saw an early morning show in an almost empty theatre, I had too much silence around to observe minute things.
Godfather Movie Review: Direction, Music
Mohan Raju is a Chiranjeevi fan and there is no doubt about that. He directs scenes in a way that every twist leads to him and makes way for a slow-motion shot, or a close-up of his glares. But he also goes overboard with the slow motion and that just adds a lot more minutes to the already long runtime.
Thaman S’ music is again a staple and it’s been a long I witnessed his real magic now. We need it soon.
Godfather Movie Review: The Last Word
Godfather is an almost three-hour-long Chiranjeevi show where gravity is to be forgotten and bullets make men fly. We have bought it for years, but there must be something new with it to take the culture ahead.

Godfather Movie Review: Tailormade Remake
Movie: Godfather Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: Mega Supergood Films, Konidela Productions Cast: Chiranjeevi, Salman Khan, Nayanthara, Puri Jagannadh, Satya Dev, Murali Sharma, Samuthirakani, Sunil and others Music: Thaman S Director of Photography: Nirva Shah Editor: Marthand K Venkatesh Action: Ram-Laxman, Anl Arsu Producer: RB Choudary and NV Prasad Directed by: Mohan Raja Release Date: October 5, 2022
Any Chiranjeevi starrer evokes curiosity. “Godfather” has created more interest as Bollywood superstar Salman Khan played a guest role. The film marks Salman Khan’s Telugu debut.
Let’s find out whether the film lives up to the expectations.
Story: When Chief Minister PKR passed away, his daughter Satya Priya (Nayanthara) and his son-in-law Jaidev (Satya Dev) decided to take the reins of the party and the government. Not aware of her husband's true nature, Satya Priya proposes Jaidev's name as the new president, which is rejected by MLAs and party men as they follow Brahma (Chiranjeevi), the stepson of the deceased CM.
Satya Priya hates Brahma and wants to keep him away from the party. Jaidev wants to buy all the MLAs with the money from a Mumbai don. The Mumbai mafia don, in return, seeks the permission to set up a drugs production company in the state when Jaidev becomes CM of the state.
How Brahma plays his game and saves his sister Satya Priya and the state from the schemes of Jaidev forms the rest of the story.
Artistes’ Performances: Megastar Chiranjeevi has played a role that suits his age and image. The appearance is also closer to his real life. Chiranjeevi is quite effective when he speaks less and does the acting with his body language. This is the first time that the megastar played a role without a female interest in the film.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in his Tollywood debut gets a raw deal. His entry into the film and his subsequent scenes look superficial.
Satyadev steps in the role played by Vivek Oberoi. Satyadev has put in his best efforts, but his role lacks evilness as Vivek showed in the original. He doesn’t pose as a strong villain to the mighty Chiranjeevi.
Nayanthara is dignified in her role. Sunil is okay. Murali Sharma shines. Puri Jagannadh as a journalist is impressive.
Technical Excellence: Nirav Shah’s cinematography is striking. Many shots in the film show his master touch. The sequences filmed on Necklace Road’s tricolor flag area are beautiful. Thaman’s music is a letdown. Lakshmi Bhupal’s dialogues are pale and normal.
Highlights: Chiranjeevi’s act and style The first half
Drawback: Weak villain The climax portions Changes to the original story
Analysis “Godfather” is the official remake of the Malayalam blockbuster “Lucifer” featuring Mohanlal. The Malayalam version is a commercial film and a blockbuster. The film was narrated in a gripping manner. It was one of the best political thrillers.
The basic storyline of “Godfather” is the same as that of “Lucifer”, but director Mohan Raja has made many changes that have diluted the impact.
Until the interval bang, the film is as gripping as the original. While certain changes worked for the image of Chiranjeevi, the other crucial changes, especially the removal of the brother’s character, have changed the course of the drama.
The protagonist is the son of the deceased chief minister and that is never explicitly told in the original movie. It is only implied with the ‘silence’ of the main character. This angle has given room for suspense in the story. In “Godfather”, at the very beginning, it is revealed that Chiranjeevi is the son of the deceased Chief Minister. So, the drama about the identity of “Lucifer” or “Brahma” goes missing. Then the arrival of the Chief Minister’s younger son is quite dramatic in "Lucifer". In the “Godfather”, the role is completely chopped off.
What “Godfather” gets right is it doesn’t spoil the spirit of the original. The first half is narrated in a gripping manner. Plus, additional sequences like adding a heroine to Chiranjeevi or songs are not incorporated. This is a major relief.
The political dialogues used by Chiranjeevi are in ok with the story, there is no forced additional political track. Puri Jagannadh’s journalist role and the sequences have also come out well.
Even after the interval, the film goes as per the story for a few sequences. But thereafter, it turned into a complete ‘Telugu commercial film’.
Satya Dev’s character lacks the evilness of Vivek Oberoi’s. In turn, Satya Dev looks like a meek person in front of Chiranjeevi, who is called the boss of the bosses. And We don’t get any high moments when Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan appear together. In the original, the same sequences filmed on Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumar provide goosebumps.
Having said that, “Godfather” is a better action drama compared to recent masala movies. When it sticks to the original, it works big time, when it deviates, it goes down. If we stop comparing it with the original, it looks interesting. However, Chiranjeevi’s charisma and his swag, and certain portions bring joy to his fans. For others, it is a strictly okay watch. It is difficult for the audience who watched 'Lucifer' to relish this film. But those who didn't watch the original may like it. This is the tailormade remake for Chiranjeevi.
Bottom line: For fans

GodFather movie review: Chiranjeevi's unmatched charisma gives this fun political thriller many whistle-worthy moments
Godfather movie review: chiranjeevi-starrer remake of lucifer is clichéd, mindless, and yet immensely enjoyable, largely due to the star’s screen presence and salman khan’s explosive cameo..
GodFather, the Telugu remake of Mohanlal’s mega hit Lucifer, is a heady concoction of clichés, crowd-pleasing moments, larger-than-life fights, and some complex plot twists. And yet, it never gets too much and remains enjoyable for most parts. You even learn to look past the silliness of it all. And it’s all because of the charisma and towering screen presence of Chiranjeevi . The boss is truly back and he has chosen the perfect vehicle, a massy masala entertainer that gets the audience cheering and whistling. Also read: GodFather Twitter reviews: Fans react to Chiranjeevi’s remake of Lucifer
GodFather is part political thriller, part mindless action film. It follows the death of a revered chief minister PKR and the infighting to choose his successor. The contenders are the amibitious home minister Narayan Varma (a delightful but slightly over Murali Sharma) and PKR’s son-in-law Jaidev (Satyadev Kancharana). But there is also the mysterious kingmaker Brahma (Chiranjeevi), who holds the reins of power in the state. What follows is a game of political cat and mouse with each politician trying to outfox the other.
GodFather follows in the footsteps of massy hits like Pushpa: The Rise and KGF: Chapter 2 from earlier this year. In some parts, it lacks the heart and finesse of a Pushpa and the grandeur of KGF. Yet, it balances the two quite well. The script falters, partly because there is a lack of one for large portions of the film. In trying to be clever, it wanders into the unintentionally funny territory at times. It is not a cerebral political thriller in the genre of a Rajneeti or Leader. It is an action film disguised as one, but disguised quite well.
The film is high on drama, lacks subtlety, and uses every cliché out there. When the hero enters, everything is in slo-mo, leaves fly, people faint. When he goes to prison, he is automatically qaidi number 786. The film screams 90s. But then that’s Chiranjeevi’s strength. He became India’s number one star in the early 90s doing many similar films. And he turns back the clock here splendidly.
GodFather works only when Chiranjeevi is on screen. Although the director’s choice to give him a grand entry ‘every’ time he walks into the frame gets old pretty fast, the veteran actor more than holds his own. He carries the film on his back, lending his stardom and screen presence to otherwise loose scenes and salvaging them. He works best when he is not kicking butt though. It is the scenes in which he very understatedly showcases his power and influence are what shine through. There are a lot of whistle-worthy moments in the film owing to Chiranjeevi’s inherent swag.
In the supporting cast, Murali Sharma and Satyadev Kancharana as the two ambitious politicians stand out. Satyadev, in particular, as the Machiavellian Jai, is a treat to watch. Murali Sharma shows just what he is capable of. It’s a pity Bollywood hasn’t truly utilized him yet. The biggest flaw of the film is to relegate Nayanthara to the background. Having an actor of her caliber and a star of her stature is a bonus to any film and yet GodFather chooses to let the men take centre stage. That she still manages to leave her mark despite a limited screen time only makes this decision even more puzzling.
And then there is Salman Khan . He has a cameo in the film that drew the loudest cheers and whistles in the theatre that I was at. In what can only be described as the most Salman role ever, he appears in an explosive role that not only adds to the film’s overall swag quotient but shows a more brutal, ruthless side of the actor that Bollywood hasn’t explored of late. The scenes with both Chiranjeevi and Salman together really light up the screen.
GodFather has its flaws, and they are countless, to be honest. But the packaging is so slick that you prefer to overlook most of them. Because I went to watch the film with lowered expectations and I did not bother comparing it to Lucifer, I was able to actually enjoy the film. If you are prepared to do the same, and watch Chiranjeevi in his element, you may too.
Director: Mohan Raja
Cast: Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, Satyadev Kancharana, Murali Sharma, Puri Jaggannadh, and Salman Khan.

GodFather movie review: Chiranjeevi-Salman Khan starrer is a satisfying watch
Godfather review: filmmaker mohan raja has packed godfather with all the elements to satisfy the core fan base of chiranjeevi and salman khan..
Owing to the dismal performance of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent movies (Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Acharya ), there was some uneasiness in the trade about GodFather. Chiranjeevi, however, expressed a lot of confidence that GodFather would end his losing streak and satisfy his fan base. And he was correct. Director Mohan Raja has packed GodFather with plenty of energetic moments to ensure there isn’t a dull moment in the narration.
GodFather is the official remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer. The film begins with the untimely death of Chief Minister PKR. His passing causes a power vacuum, creating an opening for the dubious minds in politics to make a bid for the top position. However, the power-grabbers are not aware that PKR has made arrangements, perhaps in anticipation of his sudden death, to protect his life’s work: his family and political party. The CM’s chair and family are guarded by one of the wickedest men and his name is Brahma (Chiranjeevi). As his name suggests, he creates and controls every move of everyone in this game of power.
Lucifer was in a way philosophical as its writer Murali Gopy had used big words to create the myth of Stephen Nedumpally. The Malayalam original begins with the question of who’s Stephen Nedumpally and that question sustains the entire movie to the end. Even though Lucifer was set against a political backdrop, the film gravitated more towards presenting Stephen as a mythical character. Director Mohan Raja, however, has steered clear of mystery and has turned GodFather into a full-fledged political drama.
The horse-trading, the fake public feud of politicians, the big corporations deciding the fate of the next government, the reverence that dynastic politics enjoys, and the submissive media, all are reminiscent of the current political climate. Conventionally, the protagonist has to fight the system which has been rigged by those in power in their favour. In GodFather, the director has turned the tables. The hero rigs the system for the villains to fail.
Mohan Raja has added some original twists to the narration, which were not present in Lucifer. For example, the confrontation scene between Brahma and Jaidev (Satyadev Kancharana). Jaidev gets to do all the shouting and aggressive gestures as Brahma remains calm, not reacting to any of the provocations. While Jaidev assumes a dominant position in the scene, in the end, he realises the reality. He has not got Brahma boxed in, but the opposite is true. Mohan uses clever and subtle ways to elevate Brahma’s heroism.
The scene where Brahma meets the investigative journalist, played by Puri Jagannadh, is also interesting as it’s a face-off between an idealist and a realist. For the first time, Brahma admits his limitations and reminds the idealist journalist that society can’t be changed overnight. And Brahma is okay with playing dirty if it serves a greater good.
Mohan Raja has also steered clear of unnecessary distractions in the form of parallel comedy tracks or special dance numbers. He has only kept those things that serve the main plot and within that space, he has indulged the superstardom of Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan for the amusement of their fans. In the middle of a gunfight, Salman’s Masoom Khan pushes an overturned car just with his shoulder, all the while firing a shotgun to create a safe passage for Chiranjeevi’s Brahma to get out of the car. The action scenes are too ridiculous to take them seriously. And Mohan knows it. But, he’s also aware that this kind of stunts will do the job of amusing fans.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Godfather is the official remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj. The trailer of Godfather garnered a decent response. The starcast of Godfather is interesting with the very talented Nayanthara and Sathya Dev joining Chiru for this political action drama. Today, the movie was released in theaters. Here is the review.
What Is It About?
Chief Minister PK Ramadas’s (Sarvadaman Banerjee) sudden demise creates chaos in state politics. Home Minister Varma (Murli Sharma) and PKR’s son-in-law Jayadev (Sathyadev) plot on becoming the CM of the state in their ways. Brahma (Chiranjeevi) who was the right hand and great supporter of PKR stands against them both. Satya Priya (Nayanthara) hates Brahma for a reason. What is the rivalry between Sathya and Brahma? How Brahma saves the state and family from the wrong people? The answers to these questions are all about Godfather.
Performances
There is always something missing in Chiranjeevi’s roles since his comeback with Khaidi no 150. Now in Godfather, Chiru’s role appears complete and well arranged. Chiranjeevi gives a subtle performance and is precise for the role of Godfather. So far, we have seen Chiru dominating the show when he is onscreen, but with Godfather he keeps content and brings it up at the right moments.
Nayanthara performed well and is apt for the role. Her role is orderly and she did what is needed. She will be mostly passive in the first half, and her presence is better felt in the second half.
Sathyadev is a good choice for the role of Jayadev. Sathyadev is a performer and he gives his best as a baddie. The director’s choice to go for Sathyadev instead of a Bollywood villain is perfect.
Sunil, Shafi, Brahmaji, Murli Sharma and Anasuya were apt in their roles. Puri Jagannath appears in a crucial role as a gutsy investigative journalist. He is fine in his role.
Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan elevated the scenes to bigger levels with his presence. Salman’s role is brief and also not important. But Salman doing the role enthralls the masses, particularly when both of them were in one frame doing all the action parts.
Technicalities
Godfather is a political action drama. So writing is expected to be more thrilling with political and elevation punches. Godfather does not have many enticing dialogues. Most of the writing is from the original. Thaman’s background score is loud but it helped elevate many scenes. The cinematography is good. The screenplay is fine.
Chiranjeevi Sathya Dev & Nayanthara First Half
Thumbs Down
Poor Graphics Few Lengthy scenes
There were many doubts about why Chiranjeevi is keen on remaking the political action thriller Lucifer. But Godfather is an honest remake with some changes that did not spoil the essence of the original. The director Mohan Raja adapted the movie for the Telugu nativity and made it a bit more engaging.
The director kept the original plot intact with balanced elevations in regular intervals. There are a few twists that thrill the audience and there are some stretchy scenes as well. The first half engages with the smooth run and characters scheming against each other. Salman Khan’s appearance during the interval gives a high
We have seen the political ploy with MLAs shifting bases. Godfather also has similar episodes but the story slowly starts focusing on the confrontation between the protagonist and the antagonist in the second half. Some prison episodes and action sequences entertain the masses.
The latter part of the second half takes the route of routine mass drama with a kidnap rescue episode. The climax part is not any different from the usual fight sequence with lots of guns and bullets.
An item song followed by a rain of bullets, spilling blood, and fire in slow motion leaves us a feeling of action dominating the mature thrill that the movie so far carried. The fans might be missing Chiru getting into a muscle fight in the end, but Salman does that for him to keep the Godfather’s weightage.
Overall, Godfather is a neat remake with relevant changes. For those who already watched Lucifer, Godfather will be a decent remake, and for those who have not watched the original, this will be an entertaining watch.
Bottomline: Boss Is Back
Rating: 3/5

Godfather is an official Telugu remake of Mohanlal's Malayalam film Lucifer. It is directed by Mohan Raja and produced by NV Konidela and RB Choudary under the banners Konidela Production Company and Super Good Films respectively. The film has Mega Star Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara in the lead roles while Satya Dev, Murali Sharma, Tanya Ravichandran and others play crucial supporting roles. Salman Khan has also played a cameo appearance as Masoom Bhai.
The Chief Minister of Andhra, PKR dies mysteriously, and the race for the throne is wide open. PKR's daughter Sathyapriya (Nayanthara), her husband Jaidev (Satya Dev), and Mr. Verma (Murali Sharma) are the names in the hat and Brahma's name gets added at the end. Brahma(Chiranjeevi) is considered as a force to reckon with and the strength behind PKR when he was the CM.
The power play between all these contenders, what role Brahma has in weeding out all corrupt ministers, and how he avenges PKR's death is what Godfather is all about. Directed by Mohan Raja, who is known for handling remakes really really well, he almost gets the essence of the original right, and adds a few elements to fit the sensibilities of the Telugu audiences.
Godfather is all about Chiranjeevi and it is the right kind of script which fits the stardom he carries, and Mohan Raja goes full throttle. One of the scenes which stands out is the conversation between Satya Dev and Chiranjeevi inside a prison where Chiranjeevi doesn't utter a word but the scene reeks of mass appeal. It is also a scene which shows us what a brilliant actor Chiranjeevi is. Cinematographer Nirav Shah rightly chooses to zoom in on Chiranjeevi's eyes and give us goosebumps.
Among the other actors, Satya Dev looks less powerful as the antagonist as a person with a huge screen presence like Chiranjeevi needed a much stronger villain. Barring him, Nayanthara, Murali Sharma, Tanya Ravichandran and Brahmaji end up as memorable characters in our minds and ace their roles. Salman Khan's cameo role increases the "massness" of the film, and he breeds swagger in every frame.
Technically, Nirav Shah's camerawork is stellar and he captures the film in a grand way. But the VFX especially in climax fights could have been better. The stunt choreography is a mixed bag. The jail fight sequences are executed well.
Among all these, one person whose work stands out is Music director Thaman. His purple patch of scoring mass BGMs for top heroes continues and he's given his heart and soul to this film. The screenplay by Mohan Raja is neat and simplified and is understandable for everyone. He also makes a few tweaks to the original by combining 2 characters and making it a single character. Those are the places where the Godfather differentiates from Lucifer.
Overall, Godfather is a mass film with a great screenplay and music. Chiranjeevi solely powers the film right from the frame he makes an entry. There are a few rough edges here and there but all those are forgotten as Chiranjeevi, Salman Khan and Prabhu Deva shake a leg together while the film comes to a close.

Post the debacle of Acharya, Chiranjeevi has taken a safe route and has remade a Malayalam hit Lucifer. Titled Godfather, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
The film starts with the death of a state CM. This leaves the key post open and in line to take over as the CM are Jai(Satyadev) and Satya(Nayanthara) the son in law and daughter of the late CM. But in comes one more power house in the party, Brahma(Chiranjeevi) to stop all this from happening. The rest of the story is about the cat and mouse game of who becomes the CM of the state finally.
Plus Points:
Godfather is the official remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer but director Mohan Raja has made good changes to suit the sensibilities of the Telugu audience. Mohan Raja has stayed true to the story and narrated the film in an engaging manner.
The manner in which he has showcased Chiranjeevi is superb. All these years, we have seen Chiranjeevi in highly energetic roles but here in Godfather, he plays a mature politician and is very good. Chiranjeevi does not have many dialogues but he emotes superbly through his eyes. Though he does not dance or evoke comedy, his screen presence and settled performance will be loved by his fans.
Nayanthara plays a key role and brings a lot of depth to the film. But if there is one actor who steals the show it is none other than young hero Satyadev. He surprises you with his evil act and is a perfect enemy for Chiranjeevi. The manner in which Satyadev goes about his role is convincing and he impresses big time.
Murali Sharma gets a key role and he was impressive. The first half is filled with well written political moments which are well executed. Brahmaji, Sunil, Samutrakani do well in their roles.
The film has some really well written scenes. The jail episode between Chiranjeevi and Satyadev is executed superbly even though the megastar does not utter one dialogue.
Last but not the least, Salman Khan’s entry is perfectly timed into the narrative and gives the required mass moments for the fans. The climax fight, song and slow motion shots of Salman and Chiranjeevi are solid and end the film on a high.
Mini Points:
Lucifer had a very engaging drama and when compared to it, things are a bit low in Godfather. The second half becomes slow as there is not much story to showcase. That is the reason a song breaks out at the pre-climax time.
Also, Chiranjeevi looks a bit stiff in a few scenes during the end of the movie. The emotions in the second could have been more stronger. Salman Khan’s role looks fancy but is not justified properly by the end.
Also, the proceedings are a bit predictable. Though Satyadev is good, some more padding should have been given to him to enhance the villain angle in the film.
Technical Aspects:
Thaman is one more asset of the film as his BGM elevates the proceedings big time. The production design is very good and the colour tone used by the cameraman to showcase the political setup is amazing. Dialogues are decent and so was the editing part.
Coming to the director Mohan Raja, he is known as the remake specialist and he has done an impressive job with the film. He uses Chiranjeevi’s grace superbly and lets his eyes emote. The changes he makes or the mass elements he has added with Salman are good.
The best part of the film is that Mohan Raja does not force any over the top scenes or comedy and narrates the political thriller in a proper way. When you think the film is getting simple towards the end, he brings in Salman and ends the film on a high.
On the whole, Godfather is an impressive political thriller narrated in a sensible manner. A new age and mature Chiranjeevi, solid performance by Satyadev and Nayanthara and a fun cameo by Salman Khan are basic assets of the film. When compared to the original Lucifer, drama is missing a bit but that does not stop the fans and masses having a fun ride this Dussehra as the boss is back.

Godfather , one of the most-awaited films of this festive season, hit the screens today — and in all likelihood we have a big box-office hit on our hands.
Starring megastar Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara and Satyadev in lead roles, the film is directed by Mohan Raja. Godfather is the Telugu remake of Malayalam movie Lucifer, starring Mohanlal.
Chiranjeevi’s last film, Acharya , ended as the disaster of the year. His fans desperately wanted him to bounce back, and he has done so with Godfather .
Story and plot
Let’s right away get into the story of the film: Chief Minister PKR passes away and the entire state is waiting to find out who the next chief minister will be.
Minister Varma (Murali Sharma) has eyes on the post, as also Jaidev (Satyadev), PKR’s son-in-law. But everyone knows that it is Brahma (Chiranjeevi) who has all the qualities to become the chief minister.

Brahma is PKR’s son from his first marriage. And from his second marriage, he has two daughters: Satyapriya (Nayanthara) and Janhvi. Satya hates Brahma as she considers him the reason for the death of her mother.
Jaidev is a criminal and his marriage with Satya is a trap. He wants to become the chief minister so that he can continue his criminal saga. He was the one who killed PKR.
One day, Satya comes to know the criminal side of her husband and that he’s the murderer of her father. Now to save herself and her sister from Jaidev, will she approach Brahma so that he can save the party and state too?
Who will out the fact that Brahma has another persona called Abram Qureshi, and his close aid Masood Bhai (Salman Khan) has connections to the mafia?
The Chiranjeevi show
Godfather is loud and it is entertaining, as it is both a serious political thriller and has pucca commercial elements.
This film is not exactly a remake because, when compared to the original, quite a lot of changes have been made to the plot. In other words, this film is a fanboy tribute to Chiranjeevi from Mohan Raja and music director Thaman S.
With a salt-and-pepper look, dark-coloured kurtas, black goggles and an Ambassador car, Chiranjeevi is downright regal. It’s good to see him back in his mass avatar and it is an absolute delight to watch him on the screen.
Other actors
Nayanthara, as is now expected of her, has done a good job. Satyadev is at his best in this negatively-shaded role . This is the first time he played an antagonist and the entire first half is his.
Actor Satyadev who plays the villain in ‘Godfather’. (Supplied)
Samuthirakhani plays a cop and though he has less screen time, he has done a commendable job. Murali Sharma has, yet again, proved that he is a versatile actor.
The producers of the movie spent huge amount on casting, and the production quality.
Special credits to Thaman for amazing background music score. Perfect in every possible way,
Godfather is an absolute entertainer. There are smany elevation shots for Chiranjeevi and they are great too. Director of photography Nirav Shah has done a great job of visually portraying the film.
The long and short of it: Godfather is good, if you don’t compare it to Lucifer . Fans of Chiranjeevi will enjoy every bit the film.

Godfather Movie Review
Coincidentally, this week happened to be the weekend of films which are crafted on the nature of mammals that live in jungle to portray the human trait. The other release of the week Mafia was based on the concept of the battle between a lion and a fox, might vs. cunningness, and God Father is based on an interesting core theme of a lion and a deer, strongest vs. the weak. Even its characters are named with the lion and deer (Singam and Maan) in the suffix. The entertainer depicts how far would the weak go to fend for itself. In Tamil cinema, not often we get a film that is built with an intensely poignant emotional touch, which successfully get the audience to pin for the characters that are in the flick. God father attempts to be one of that rarely made films. But has it succeeded in its ambitious attempt? Let us get in to the review to know that.
God Father establishes its theme right away in the beginning with an animation sequence of a lion ruthlessly attempting to hunt a deer. Adhiyamaan (Natarajan Subramanian) is a married middle class working man whose world revolves entirely around his wife Mithra ( Ananya ) and his son Arjun (Ashwanth Ashok Kumar). He lives with them in a multi storey apartment. He is a happy family man who leads a peaceful life even with his monotonous office going lifestyle. Life moves smoothly for the family without any nuisance until fate decides to have its own play. Meanwhile, we have Marudhu Singam (Lal), a dreadful and menacing gangster whose son is affected by a lethal heart disease. Doctors prescribe the only way to save the child is to immediately find a heart donor of the same age and blood group.
Now, we know what happens, there is a search party of sort held by henchmen for a kid of the same age and blood group. Here is where the fate comes in to play and puts Arjun in the devious trap of Marudhu Singam’s men. The henchmen find out that Arjun’s age and blood group fit in as a perfect match for a donor and informs Marudhu who orders them to take the boy under custody with a plan to kill him to harvest his heart. Following his orders they get to the apartment where Adhiyamaan’s family lives, and start to enquire about Arjun. Adhiyamaan senses something wrong but realizes that he is helpless when he finds that they have taken them as hostages and have blocked the entry and exit of individuals to the apartment. How far would helpless Adhiyamaan go in order to save his son, and how ruthless will Marudhu Singam get to save his son, is what makes the rest of the flick.
Director Jegan Rajshekar has neatly penned the survival drama that takes place within an apartment. His intend to play the emotional game between two fathers with completely different nature fighting to save their kids has worked well to an extent. The story teller’s attempt to explore the life in apartments, growing lack of human empathy, and how difficult it becomes for humans to coexist without it, on the run has added strength to the film.
Story teller Jegan Rajshekar stays true to the theme (Strong vs. weak) on which he intended to build his flick. Usually, film makers are prone to develop their vulnerable hero in to a man of bravery who goes on a killing crusade half way through the drama. But Jegan Rajshekar refrains from doing it and allows his lead character to travel as a normal human being who gets humiliated and beaten up but does not leave his resilient. It is this factor that makes the audience to pin for the characters in the flick. But making the entertainer navigate around within an apartment gets tedious after a point despite its fine share of the edge of the seat moments. Also, the loopholes in the plot and unnecessary scenes like pointless murders to frame Marudhu in to the ruthless character and trusted family song dilute the intensity that the entertainer had created.
Actor Natarajan Subramanian who has been busy with his cinematography work is back as lead hero after his action crime thriller Bongu with a character that he has not attempted before. He sells the character of a helpless doting father quite well with ease. Actress Ananya delivers what was asked of her in a perimeter set role. Child artist Ashwanth Ashok Kumar is the show stealer with his performance in a demanding role for his age. Actor Lal looks ominous and looming with his performance as well as his get up. The rest of the cast has delivered a decent performance.
On the technical front, musician Navin Ravindran’s background score helps in creating the intense mood during the tense portions. Cinematographer Shanmuga Sundaram has done his best to capture the flick which is predominately set inside an apartment. Hard work of Shanmuga Sundaram has been letdown by editor Bhuvan Srinivasan and the constant fade to black pattern does not help either.
On the whole, interesting premise and top notch performances makes God Father a watchable entertainer despite its share of flaws.

What’s it about?
When Chief Minister PKR dies, a question arises regarding the successor. PKR’s son-in-law Jaidev (Satya Dev) swiftly swings into action. His wife Satya Priya believes that her husband is doing everything for her and her family. She loathes her stepbrother Brahma (Chiranjeevi) and is determined that the party doesn’t go into his hands.
Brahma, on the other hand, has the support of many MLAs, who act on his word. Understanding that Jaidev is trying to grab the party in his hands, Brahma plans that his sister Satya Priya becomes the new party president. Then, Jaidev’s game to become the new Chief Minister becomes tough.
How Brahma exposes Jaidev’s true nature and averts his efforts and saves his sister from him becomes the main plot of this political drama.
An official remake of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’, Chiranjeevi starrer ‘Godfather’ follows the spirit of the original but also differs from it. As director Mohan Raja said in his interviews, he has made many changes to the script, by omitting certain characters and adding new ones. The character of the Chief Minister’s younger son was removed entirely. Manju Warrier’s daughter role turns into Nayanthara’s sister here.
The original film is not just about succession but drug cartels. The aspect of the drugs has remained in the ‘Godfather’. But the political drama and the successor game are altered. Political drama is over masalafied in ‘Godfather’.
‘Godfather’ is largely gripping in the first half. The biggest trick Mohan Raja has scored with this film is that he doesn’t let us think about Chiranjeevi’s usual introduction song or romantic thread. Thankfully, the film sticks to the original in this aspect. For the first time in his long career, Chiranjeevi has done a movie without the usual dance numbers or romantic angles.
Mohan Raja succeeds in presenting a new megastar that befits his age.
If we start comparing the film in all aspects with the original, the review will be too long to read. In short, ‘Godfather’ follows the outline of ‘Lucifer’ but gets some portions rights, some things wrong. We don’t get many complaints with the first half, but the final act completely goes wrong.
The very decision of casting Salman Khan is bad. Even the scenes involving Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan lack the native factor and don’t provide any thrilling moments. The final moments give a feel of the rushed product.
Coming to performances, Chiranjeevi’s swag and style is the main highlight. He reinvents himself with this film.
Among the other characters, Nayanthara (dignified), Satya Dev (decent), and Murali Sharma (good) shine. Sunil, Brahmaji, Samuthirakani, Divi Vadthya, and Shafi are okay.
Among the technicians, cinematographer Nirav Shah and dialogue writer Lakshmi Bhupala deserve appreciation. Thaman’s music is standard. Director Mohan Raja does a neat job in remaking the original.
Bottom-line: For all these years, Chiranjeevi has done films or roles that provided scope for his dance numbers or mass sequences. For a change, he reinvents himself with ‘Godfather’, which is bereft of such moments. This is a novelty. Though the film is not as good as the original ‘Lucifer’, it makes a decent watch on its own.

Godfather Movie Review: Engaging, even if inconsistent, battle of the dads
Rating: ( 2.5 / 5).
As ancient scholar Chanakya once said, a line popularised by director Thiagaraja Kumararaja in Aaranya Kaandam , " Edhu thevayo, adhuve dharmam. " This is the philosophy that drives the actions of characters in director Jegan Rajshekar's God Father , which, if it needs to be said, is unrelated to Francis Ford Coppola's franchise. However, it does have a remote connection to the 1991 Malayalam film of the same name, directed by Siddique and Lal. The latter plays dreaded gangster, MarudhuSINGAM, the antagonist in God Father , who bizarrely, narrates stories of a lion to those he is about to kill. With the predator in the fray, will the prey be far behind? Cinematographer-turned-actor Natty plays AdhiyaMAAN, who ends up in a situation where he has to save himself and his family from the clutches of Marudhu.
Cast: Natty, Lal, Ananya, Ashwanth
Director: Jegan Rajshekar
The why of this survival thriller answers questions about the use of such an iconic title. How far would fathers go to protect their sons? Throughout this film, we have two fathers, on opposing ends of the morality spectrum, making decisions for the goodwill of their progeny. The blatant power imbalance between the two fathers come to the forefront as the chase is shifted to Adhiyamaan's residential complex. Marudhusingam and his henchmen take over the apartment in search of Adhiyamaan's kid, Arjun, played by the precocious Ashwanth Ashok Kumar. From here on, God Father becomes an exciting and mostly engaging thriller. I'm not sure if it was intended, but God Father , you could argue, is namma version of Die Hard . Replace Nakatomi Plaza with this residential complex, Hans Gruber with Marudhusingam, and John McClane with a timid Adhiyamaan, we have God Father .
Full points to Jegan for not turning Adhiyamaan into a killing machine just because he is the 'hero'. The character is essentially a pacifist and is no match even to the weakest of henchmen in Marudhusingam's arsenal. The 'hero' here gets beaten, kicked, slapped, and even thrown around, but is resilient, and Natty sells this hopelessness pretty effectively. While Ananya does a good job of showcasing dread, it is young Ashwanth who steals the show. His performance in a pretty physical role establishes that Super Deluxe wasn't just a flash in the pan. Although Lal could sleepwalk through such a role, the one too many slow-motion shots spoil the fun. Another major deterrent in the filmmaking style is the edit pattern. The constant 'fade-to-black' is irritable, but even more so are the innumerable drone shots to establish every location jump.
God Father , essentially a chamber drama, comes into its own mainly when executing the Die Hard -esque thrills without the stunts. It is more about high-stakes survival than high-octane action blocks. Though the climbing-down-pipes and running-up-the-stairs get tedious at times, the intensity gets maintained, thanks to the taut central conceit. Also, the film acts as a commentary on the apartment culture that is portrayed to be thriving on isolation and alienation. Unlike other films that paint this culture as the root of all evil, the writing in God Father makes it just as one of many hurdles that come in the way of Adhiyamaan. Though he does have good friends as neighbours, wouldn't his life have been simpler had the others shown sympathy?
More than the decent performances, the well-conceptualised story, the novel setting of the film, what would truly determine the success of God Father , as filmmakers often say, is the audience's reception... to the ending. As his name crops up on the screen at the end of 111 minutes, Jegan makes us an offer, which in a weird way, follows the path taken by its more illustrious title-twin. One can either refuse or accept that offer of friendship. But then, there is the third option, which I found myself doing as the enterprising 'making videos' were shown as the credits rolled. I smiled in enjoyment at the confidence of the filmmaker.

Godfather Movie Synopsis: A hapless father tries to save his son from a ruthless gangster who is after the boy to save his own child.
Godfather Movie Review: The title credits of Godfather play over animated visuals of a lion trying to hunt down a deer. It is a very explicit description of what the film is all about – the protagonist, a timid family man, has to fend off the antagonist, a feared gangster – and the director only keeps pushing this analogy further at every given opportunity. For one, there are the names of the characters themselves – Adhiya’ maan’ (Natty) and Marudhu’singam’ (Lal). In fact, the latter is even made to resemble a lion, with his beard resembling a lion’s mane; even his ring has a lion’s face!
Marudhu’s son is dying and the only way to save him is to find a child of his own age and harvest his organs. And that boy (Ashwanth, the Super Deluxe kid) happens to be that of Adhiyamaan. When Marudhu’s men come calling, luckily, Adhiyamaan gets to learn about their intention. But with the gangsters not letting anyone enter or exit the multi-storey apartment that Adhiyamaan lives in, for how long can he save his son?
A survival thriller set inside an apartment. Two fathers willing to do anything to save the lives of their sons. Jegan Rajshekar has a fantastic premise with the right mix of action and sentiment for an edge-of-the-seat thriller. And in its present form, Godfather isn’t exactly a letdown, but it certainly doesn’t live up to the promise of its juicy premise. The tension inherent in the plot helps the film coast through, and the director manages to maintain a fair pace and keeps things moving. But the writing is a letdown as we get characters and relationships that lack depth. And the generic nature of the initial scenes feels like a disservice to the exciting concept of the film. We get a generic family song to show that Adhiyamaan has a loving family. We get generic murders to show that Marudhu is ruthless. All that these portions do is stick out as unnecessary padding.
But the biggest issue is how reveals the surprises in the name of foreshadowing. Rather than subtly introduce these elements into the plot, he underlines the moments. So, when we get a line about a house with a smoke alarm or a lift that doesn’t work often, we instantly know what role they will play in the latter stages.

Godfather Movie Review: Script Analysis. The commercial Telugu cinema is a celebration of the star power that some iconic names possess and the ritualistic worshiping of it with every frame.
In "Godfather", at the very beginning, it is revealed that Chiranjeevi is the son of the deceased Chief Minister. So, the drama about the identity of "Lucifer" or "Brahma" goes missing. Then the arrival of the Chief Minister's younger son is quite dramatic in "Lucifer". In the "Godfather", the role is completely chopped off.

Chiranjeevi's filmography from his debut 44 years ago, in 1978, traverses Telugu cinema's journey into the 21st century. As S.V. Srinivas writes in his book Megastar Chiranjeevi and Telugu Cinema after N T Rama Rao, "The study of the 'Chiranjeevi phenomenon', in its screen manifestation, is a study of the mass film."
Godfather Movie Review. Megastar Chiranjeevi's Godfather is the official remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj. The trailer of Godfather garnered a decent response. The starcast of Godfather is interesting with the very talented Nayanthara and Sathya Dev joining Chiru for this political action drama.
The screenplay by Mohan Raja is neat and simplified and is understandable for everyone. He also makes a few tweaks to the original by combining 2 characters and making it a single character. Those ...

God Father - Boss is Back . Godfather is an impressive political thriller narrated in a sensible manner. A new age and mature Chiranjeevi, solid performance by Satyadev and Nayanthara and fun cameo by Salman Khan are basic assets of the film. When compared to the original Lucifer, drama is missing a bit but that . Source: 123 Telugu, 123telugu.com
God Father establishes its theme right away in the beginning with an animation sequence of a lion ruthlessly attempting to hunt a deer. Adhiyamaan (Natarajan Subramanian) is a married middle class working man whose world revolves entirely around his wife Mithra and his son Arjun (Ashwanth Ashok Kumar). He lives with them in a multi storey apartment.
For a change, he reinvents himself with 'Godfather', which is bereft of such moments. This is a novelty. Though the film is not as good as the original 'Lucifer', it makes a decent watch on its own. Rating: 3/5. By Jalapathy Gudelli. Film: Godfather. Cast: Chiranjeevi, Salman Khan, Nayanthara, Satya Dev, and others.

The blatant power imbalance between the two fathers come to the forefront as the chase is shifted to Adhiyamaan's residential complex.
