What to include in your resume education section?

In most cases, the information you include in the education section on your resume is quite standard. It includes the following:

  • Name of the college you attended
  • Location of your college
  • Your highest degree
  • Graduation year
  • And any relevant academic achievements

Depending on the job you are applying for, you will need to apply different levels of detail to the educational background section. However, in most cases, this is one of the shortest sections of a resume, typically totaling around 30 words.

Though varying levels of detail are required for different jobs. For example, if you are a recent graduate, you may want to add more detail to your education section to illustrate your capabilities — as you don’t yet have enough work experience to showcase your abilities.

The most important thing to pay attention to in your education section is that it should match (as much as possible) the position you are applying for. Make sure to look through the job description again and try to emphasize the relevant qualities that you have obtained during your studies.

Each employer may look for a different thing in your education section. This depends on what the job is and what position they are looking to fill. Someone seeking a top manager or director may be interested in seeing a high-level business degree on your resume such as an MBA. If you are applying for an entry-level position, the recruiter will probably just be looking for a high school or college degree. In some occupations such as finance or healthcare, the HR manager may be looking for a specific certification that is necessary for the job.

While it’s important to tweak your educational background section to the position you are applying for, the most important thing here is that you remain honest. Never lie on your resume, including the education section, as this will work against you in almost all cases and will affect your chances of getting hired in the future.

Don’t omit the education section either. According to Zety, 97.25% of all resumes list education — so your potential employer will be expecting to see this on your resume. Even if your education is incomplete, simply mention where you are in the education process.

There are several ways in which you can list education on your resume. How you do it depends on the job you are applying for, what education you have and the resume format you’ve chosen.

You are a recent graduate

If you’ve recently graduated, your education section may be the only prominent part of your resume as you don’t yet have any work experience. This is why you can place your education ahead of your work experience. You can also include more details in your education section that showcase your good qualities. For instance, you can mention the honors you’ve received, your GPA, extra-curricular courses and more. Here’s an example of how your education section may look:

You are an experienced professional

If you have substantial work experience, you should focus on that part of your resume and list your education below work experience. You should also keep this part of your resume relatively short and only mention your highest and most relevant degrees. In this case, the hiring manager reviewing your resume will be more interested in what you’ve achieved in the workplace rather than your academic achievement. However, if you have advanced degrees such as a Master’s Degree or a PH.D, these are absolutely worth mentioning. Here’s an example of what this might look like.

Should I put high school education on a resume?

When listing education on your resume you might start to wonder: how far back should I go? For instance, should I put high school education on my resume? The answer to that question depends on where you are professionally.

If you are currently in high school or are a recent graduate (high school or college) with little or no work experience, you can add your high school education to your resume and it will fit in quite organically.

However, once you’ve gained work experience or received higher education degrees such as a Master’s or a Ph.D., you should take your high school off your resume.

How to list incomplete education?

If you’re still enrolled in an education program, you can still include it on your resume. You will simply need to mention the work you’ve already done and when you plan to graduate.

You may include information like the name of the institution, the degree you will receive upon graduation, honors and academic achievements, extracurricular activities and more. Here’s an example:

If you haven’t completed your degree, you can list the coursework that you’ve completed. You can also add an extra section to your resume to showcase your professional development for the relevant job that you’ve done since. On-the-job experience is often more valuable than academic qualifications (especially for some jobs). And your employer will definitely appreciate it if you have experience directly related to the job. Here is an example:

  • You have quite a few options about that to include in the education section of your resume and where to place this section. It all depends on what job you are applying for and how much education you have compared to work experience.
  • When it comes to the placement of your education section, consider where you are in your career and what you want to emphasize. If your academic achievements are the most outstanding part of your experience, then it makes perfect sense to put the focus on them and place them before your work experience. If, on the other hand, you already have a few years of work experience, place your work experience section before education as it will showcase your more hands-on knowledge.
  • When deciding how to organize and structure your resume content, stay honest but also be strategic.

This work is a critical analysis of art, memory and prestige in the late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century Philippines. I am concerned with the creation of the Philippine nation by various acts of commemoration and recognition (awards, exhibits, and concerts) through which artists are valorized, immortalized and celebrated. I answer three broad questions: (1) how do patron-client and kinship systems determine the national recognition of artists in the post-colonial world? (2) how is music used in the nation-building project? and (3) how is national mythology created and contested through the commemoration of individual artists in the Philippines? I approach Philippine area studies through discussions of the past in ethnomusicology, borrowing theory from memory studies and methodology from historical anthropology while expanding both fields with a consideration of expressive culture. To describe this interaction between state and artist, I focus on the National Artist Award (NAA), the highest honor bestowed upon an artist by the Philippine government. I begin by recounting an aberration of the nominating process: the 2009 National Artist Award controversy. Then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo deleted a name from the prestigious NAA nominee list and added artists with suspiciously close ties to her administration. Then, I analyze the 2010 re-performance of National Artist for Music José Maceda’s Ugnayan, a multi spatial composition for 20 radio stations. This work was originally performed in 1974 with the explicit support of then-First Lady Imelda Marcos. Finally, I describe a 2012 exhibit featuring the materials of National Artist for Music Felipe De Leon Padilla Sr. I sort through clashing characterizations of De Leon of as “crisis composer” who served the Philippines at times of foreign and domestic peril. In this essay, entanglement is proposed as a conceptual idiom for the understanding of contemporary Manila theater where pista (f iesta) is used as model and Rizal X as example. Contemporary Manila theater via Rizal X is argued to be part of an intricate entanglement: representations, shared histories, relationships and genres, which are all activated during a pista. Rizal X is used as an example because it strategically puts entanglement in an affirmative position. More specif ically, Rizal X is treated as a microcosm of the pista because it has entangled representations, histories, relationships, and genres in the same way that the pista performs such entanglement. Nonetheless, the idea of entanglement often carries a negative connotation. Despite the promise of entanglement as a possible idiom towards the identif ication of an ontology of contemporary Manila theater, entanglement has its own limitations, especially since many artists unintentionally overuse entanglement (i.e. , pastiche, fragments) in their theater. Because of such complication, there is a tendency for theater works to unintentionally editorialize their chosen subjects. In conducting a close reading of Rizal X, it is envisioned to illustrate the limitations of entanglement as a discursive concept for the understanding of contemporary Manila theater.

What Are Certifications?

Certifications are documents awarded by accredited institutions, such as boards, associations, or professional organizations. 

Obtaining any certification shows that you possess or that you’ve developed a certain skill or that you’ve reached a certain level of technical proficiency. 

To get a certification, you typically need to be able to meet certain requirements and criteria, pay a fee, or even pass an assessment test at times. The harder a certain certification is to acquire, the more likely it is to give you an edge over other candidates for the job.

Based on your profession, there are countless certifications out there. Here are some popular examples: 

  • CompTIA A+ : Popular certification for information technology professionals.
  • PHR : The HR Certification Institute awards this certification to HR professionals who have mastered both the technical and personal aspects of human resource management.
  • NCLEX-RN : Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and nurse assistants can obtain this certification from their state’s Board of Nursing.

Why Get Certified??

As we already mentioned, earning a certification shows that you’re devoted to your field of work and provides evidence of your skills and work experience . 

In a nutshell, adding a professional certification to your resume is undeniable proof that you’re competent in a specific skill or field of work. In some positions, certification might be a mandatory requirement for simply being considered for a job.

For other roles, it can be an added bonus that helps you stand out amongst other equally qualified candidates.

Even if the certification isn’t a requirement to get the job, it can certainly do the following for your job hunt :

  • Boost your resume
  • Draw attention to your application
  • Prove that you’re a valuable hire

When to Include Certifications on Your Resume

While certifications are not mandatory on a resume, there are some cases when you should definitely do it if you want to take your resume from good to great . 

Here are some of those cases: 

#1. The employer requires it

This is probably the top reason why you should include certifications on your resume - they’re a must for the job . 

If a potential employer lists a certain certification in the job description and you fail to include it on your resume, the hiring manager may disqualify you on the spot. 

As such, make sure to check the job ad and company website thoroughly before you submit your application for any job opening. 

#2. To demonstrate your skills

In certain situations, a certification may not be required for the job, but still prove invaluable to your application.

Let’s take, for example, computer skills . They’re a must for most jobs today, whether or not they’re in the IT field. So, if you’re applying for, say, an office assistant position and you list an IT-related accreditation, the hiring manager will know that you’re also great with computers.

Compared to other candidates with similar experience, this certification may be enough to give you the upper hand in the hiring process.  

#3. To highlight your industry knowledge

Another great reason to include your certifications in your resume is if they can further highlight your years of experience in a certain industry. 

As we already mentioned, some certificates can only be obtained if you’ve worked a certain number of years in the field. In turn, listing such certifications on your resume can be an additional “voucher” for your experience. 

#4. To make up for limited practical experience

Certifications can also be used to make up for the lack of work experience . 

Let’s say you’re a recently graduated graphic designer with little professional experience in the field. However, you’ve practiced graphic design a lot in college, as well as in your free time, and have gained the necessary skills for the job. 

In such a case, listing a graphic design-related certification may be able to balance out your lack of work experience. 

How to List Certifications on a Resume 

Now that you know all about certifications, including how they can benefit your resume, it’s time to learn how to add them to your resume the right way :

How to Format Your Certifications 

In 90% of cases, you should create a dedicated resume section to list your certifications. 

Here’s how you’d format such a section: 

  • Add the title of the certification. List the full title of the certificate underneath the section header as a bullet point. Make sure there are no typos in the title and that any abbreviations are spelled out.
  • Include the name of the awarding organization. Adding the name of the organization or institution that certified you can make the certificate much more legitimate. Here too, make sure to double-check for any spelling errors.
  • List the date you earned your certification. Additionally, make sure to add the date your certificate was last renewed, in case it’s a certification that requires renewal. If you’re in the process of obtaining a certification, you can list it on your resume by including the anticipated obtainment date.
  • List the date your certification expires. In case your certification has an expiration date and you still haven’t renewed it, add the expiration date too. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t add expired certificates to your resume.
  • Provide details (optional). If the space allows it (remember, your resume should optimally be one-page-long ), add a sentence describing the skills related to the certification. This can help the hiring manager see how it’s relevant for the job.

Where to Add Certifications to Your Resume 

There are several places where you can add your certifications to your resume. As mentioned above, the most common one is under a dedicated “Certifications” section . 

Alternatively (and depending on how important the certification is for the job), you can also use these three resume sections to list them:

  • Your resume summary
  • Your contact information
  • Your education section

Let’s go through each possibility in more detail: 

#1. List certifications under the “Certifications” section 

Every resume contains mandatory sections (e.g. contact information, work experience, resume summary, skills) and optional resume sections (e.g. internships , volunteer work, hobbies and interests , etc.).

Certifications belong to the latter group as, in most cases, they’re not required for most jobs. That said, certifications are among the best optional sections you can add to your resume. 

Creating such a section is fairly easy. 

Firstly, position this section after all your essential sections, as such:

Then, create a heading on your resume named “Certifications” or “Certificates” and format all relevant certificates according to the formatting rules we outlined above. 

One thing to keep in mind is that you should list your certifications in reverse-chronological order. Start with the most recent certificate and make your way from there.

#2. List certifications In your resume summary 

If you have a certification that’s required or super relevant for the job, you can also include it in your resume summary section.

For example, if you're a certified accountant , you can mention it in your summary as follows:

Just add one line and you're already one step ahead! You don't even need to rework your existing summary, just start or end the first sentence with the certification’s title.

For example:

  • Certified CPR sports teacher with 15+ years of experience and solid organizational skills, seeking to preserve and improve the quality of sports education at Amigos Children's Academy. At Jefferson Elementary, raised sports team national results by 12% and led an exhibition team at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. 
  • Data analyst with 7+ years of experience analyzing business processes. Enthusiastic to handle big data interpreting and visualizing skills at 7EDGE. CCA certified in 2013.

If you really want your certification to be the first thing the employer sees, you can even include it in your contact information section, or as part of your job title.

#3. List certifications in your education section 

Finally, you can also include your certifications in your resume’s education section .

This, however, is not a popular choice and you should only do it if:

  • You only have one certification (and it’s not job-critical)
  • You took your certification courses throughout your university years
  • You want to list less important certifications outside the designated certifications section

Some of the most popular certifications you can acquire in 2024 are as follows:

  • PMP Certification . The Project Management Professional is a global certification offered by the Project Management Institute for project managers.

Yep! As long as the certifications are relevant to the job, you should include them on your resume.

Online certifications can especially help you if you’re a recent graduate with not a lot of work experience .

2. Is there a situation when I DON’T list certifications on my resume?

Definitely! You should only add certifications that add value to your resume .

If you’re a business analyst, for example, a Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) WILL help get you hired.

A bartending or CPR certification, though, won’t.

You also shouldn’t add certifications that are outdated (for obvious reasons) or ones that are just not that significant.

Like many companies, grad programs receive a lot of applications, so they need a quick and clear way to see why you’d be a good fit for their program. Focus More on Education

You’re applying to an educational program, so it makes sense that your grad school resume will focus more on your education than a standard work resume. In a work resume, you’d usually only devote a line or two to education to explain where you went to school and what degree you received.

Your graduate school resume should include more information such as your GPA, the title of your undergrad thesis (if you completed one), any awards you received, classes you took that are relevant to the program you’re applying to, as well as relevant skills you learned in school. Some grad schools will specify what education information they’d like you to include in your resume, but, in general, you want your resume to give them a good idea of your academic achievements and why they qualify you for the program.

Can Include Internships and Volunteer Experience

When you use a resume to apply for a job, some companies only want you to include actual jobs you had under your “Experience” section, but most grad programs allow and encourage you to include internships and volunteer work on your resume.

This can be a great benefit because you can often gain important skills and experience at these places, even if you weren’t paid or working there full-time. It can be particularly useful for younger people applying to grad school who may not have had a lot of paid jobs yet to include on their resume. So go ahead and include all those great internships and volunteer experiences you had on your grad school resume.

Usually Have Fewer Length Restrictions

Many jobs will only accept resumes that are only up to a page long, but most grad school programs accept resumes that are multiple pages. This gives you more freedom to include other experiences, such as internships and volunteer work, as mentioned above, since you’re not restricted to one page.

This doesn’t mean your resume should be the size of a novel (generally it shouldn’t be more than 2-3 pages), and it also doesn’t mean your resume has to be more than a page, but it can be nice to know you have more flexibility in regards to length than standard job resumes.

What Should Your Grad School Resume Include?

Every resume is unique, but there’s certain information that many grad school resumes include. Not all of the sections listed below may apply to you or your grad school program, but reading through the list will help you make sure you don’t forget any key information.

At the very top of your resume, you should include a nicely-formatted header with some basic information about yourself, the same way you would with a resume for a job. The first line should have just your name, and the second line should have your contact information, such as your phone number, address, and email. The purpose of the header is to make it easy for schools to know who you are and how to contact you.

Education should be the first main section of your resume so that grad schools can quickly see that you meet the academic requirements for the program. In this section, be sure to list the school you attended, dates of attendance, and the degree(s) you earned.

You may also want to include other information such as:

  • Graduation honors you received
  • The title of your thesis (if you wrote one)
  • Awards or scholarships
  • Study abroad programs you attended
  • A short list of any classes you took that are particularly relevant to the degree program (particularly if you degree itself isn’t that strongly related to it)
  • Work Experience

This will likely be the longest section on your resume, and it will include the jobs and internships you’ve had. You may also want to include volunteer experience here if you have any and if the program hasn’t specified that you need to include it in another section.

You can order this section chronologically (with your most recent position at the top), by putting the most relevant jobs first, or by organizing your experiences by category (such as “Research Experience” and “Communication Experience”). For each work experience, you should first list where you worked, your job title, and when you worked there. Below that, use bullet points to list your main duties and accomplishments for each position (see tips 2 and 3 in the next section for more advice on how to do this).

  • Publications

If you authored or coauthored academic or professional publications such as academic papers, books, book chapters or reports, put them in their own section. For each publication, include the title of the work, where and when it was published, and any other coauthors.

  • Skills and Certifications

If you received any certificates in addition to your degree and/or you have skills that are relevant to the degree program, list them in their own section.

Examples of things to include are:

  • Foreign language skills
  • Computer systems you’re proficient in
  • Relevant certifications you’ve received
  • Awards you’ve received that weren’t listed in your Education section

Extracurricular Activities

This is an optional section, and you may choose not to include it due to space and/or relevance. However, some people choose to list certain extracurricular activities if they feel they are relevant to the grad program and/or show an important part of their personality. Don’t go on and on about your great acapella group if you’re applying to a PhD program in microbiology, but it’s fine to list groups or activities you participated in if they relate to the program.

Other extracurriculars, even if they don’t relate to the degree program, may also be included if you feel they help show your strengths and interests. For example, if you tutored other students as an undergrad and think that will help show you can teach well as a graduate assistant, you can include that.  Additionally, if there’s an extracurricular you devoted a lot of time to, you can also include it to show your work ethic and commitment to a program.

#1: Pay Attention to Program Requirements

Before you begin putting your resume together, you should look carefully any instructions or requirements the program you’re applying to has.  Some programs want you to include only experience relevant to the program, others want to list all your work experiences. Some have length restrictions, and some have specific information they want included on your resume, such as test scores.

It’s very important to read through these instructions carefully before you begin so that you include everything you need to. It’s also a good idea to double-check the instructions after you’ve finished your resume to make sure you didn’t leave anything out.

#2: Highlight Your Accomplishments

The most important purpose of a grad school resume is to show what you’ve done and why the person reading it should want to accept you. This means you’ll need to do a bit of showing off so that schools know how great you are.  Ways to show your accomplishments include stating the duties you did at the position and how you helped the organization/company.

Include numbers when you can to make your accomplishments more concrete. For example, writing “I managed a staff of 13 employees and increased the company’s revenue by 130% over six months” sounds a lot more impressive than “I managed employees and increased the company’s revenue.”

#3: Be Concise

Even if there are no limits on how many pages your resume can be, you’ll still want to keep things clear and concise. Admissions officers look over a lot of resumes during application time, so you want to make it easy for them to see why you’d be a great fit.

As mentioned above, you want to highlight your accomplishments in your resume, and that should take up the majority of the space. Don’t give a lot of unnecessary information; just stick to key points that show what you did and how you did it well.

Short, simple sentences that begin with an action verb are a great way to go.  For example, this method of writing is too wordy: “I worked as an intern for a local museum which had a lot of exhibits on natural history, specifically endangered species in the area. I spent most of my time cataloging specimens, but I’d also sometimes give tours to museum visitors. During my last few months I helped lead the testing of a lot of our specimens for arsenic levels because that’s a concern a lot of older museums have to deal with.”

It’s much easier to see the important information when the information is shortened and put into bullet points, like this:

  • Cataloged over 200 museum specimens
  • Gave tours and explained exhibits to museum visitors
  • Helped lead an arsenic-testing program that ensured specimens were well-preserved and safe for visitors

#4: Proofread!

You’ve put in all this work to craft a great resume, so  don’t trip at the finish line by not proofreading your resume!  Before you submit it, check your resume over carefully, looking for any spelling or grammatical errors. You just spent all this time showing the school how intelligent and qualified you are; don’t mar their image of you with a careless mistake!

It can help to wait a day or two before doing your final proofread so that you’re looking at your resume with fresh eyes. You can also ask a friend or family member to look over your resume as well to see if they catch anything you might have missed.

#5: Submit Your Resume as a PDF

Your final step should be to convert your resume to a PDF and submit it in that format (as long as the program doesn’t have any instructions telling you otherwise). Submitting your resume as a PDF makes it looks more professional and prevents any weird formatting issues from occurring when the school opens the file.

When preparing your grad school application, you’re probably consumed with many tasks like chasing down your academic transcripts and preparing for the  entrance exam . Your graduate school resume might be the last thing on your mind, but you’ll almost certainly need to prepare one.

Grad school admission requirements vary depending on the school you’re applying to, but you’ll typically need to submit the following for your grad school application:

  • Completed application form
  • Academic transcript
  • Entrance exam
  • Reference letters
  • Personal statement

You shouldn’t use whatever resume you have on hand from the last time you applied for a job. A grad school resume is quite different from an employment resume , so you’ll need to create one specifically for this purpose. A well-crafted and comprehensive resume helps the admissions team understand your strengths, qualifications, experience, and interests. Ultimately, this will help them determine whether or not they’ll accept you into the program.

Follow these tips to show any selection committee that you’re the perfect candidate for their program!

Write a Strong but Concise Introduction

Grad school selection committees go over hundreds, if not  thousands , of resumes to find candidates who meet their standards and who could be excellent ambassadors for the program. Because of sheer volume, they may spend only a few seconds reviewing each resume.

This makes the introduction critical—this part will grab their attention and persuade them to keep reading. So, take your time to write a brief but strong professional profile. In as few words as possible, mention your qualifications, experience, and relevant skills, why you want to join the program, and why you’re the perfect candidate.

Your letter of intent for admission to graduate school gives you a unique way to separate yourself from the rest of the applicants.

Include your Contact Details

Your contact details should go at the top of your resume, right below your name.

Be sure to include the following details:

  • Your first name and surname
  • Your physical address

Your email address

  • At least one contact phone number
  • Links to your social media profiles.

You don’t need to include extra information about yourself such as your race, age, or citizenship. In fact, by law, institutions are not allowed to discriminate based on these details; so, it’s best to leave them off your resume entirely.

On the other hand, social media links are important, especially LinkedIn. If you don’t have a LinkedIn profile already, consider signing up for one. The selection committee may check your profile to verify your connections, work experience, internships, volunteer work, and educational background.

Pay Attention to Formatting

Good formatting is vital for any resume—a sloppy layout will make you look unprofessional and could damage your chances of getting accepted into a grad program. Keep it short, simple, and precise—make it no more than one page if possible. Don’t include any unnecessary details or information that isn’t relevant to the program.

The exact layout can vary, but your grad school resume should include:

  • Summary/introduction
  • Education history and educational achievements

Awards and achievements

  • Significant research projects
  • Extra-curricular activities

Even if a school doesn’t have strict grade prerequisites, at a minimum you will need to have completed an undergraduate degree. Your education history is one of the first things the selection committee will check when going over your resume.

Because this information is so important, you should outline your education in a prominent spot near the top of your resume. Mention the schools you’ve attended, your qualifications, GPA, and any other courses or certifications you took before or after your undergraduate studies. It’s also essential to include any teaching experience and major research projects.

Be sure to include these details in the education section:

  •       Name of the school
  •       Location
  •       Graduation date
  •       Degrees
  •       Awards

Include your Professional Experience

An academic resume doesn’t need to be limited to your education experience. It’s usually a good idea to also include work experience outside of academia, along with teaching and research experience .

Detailing your diverse work experience may demonstrate additional skills and experience that is relevant to the program. It can also help to build a complete picture of your journey to grad school that will be more compelling to the selection committee. Furthermore, some programs, such as most MBAs, particularly look for professional work experience.

Highlight Your Awards and Achievements

Your achievements set you apart from other candidates so it’s vital to highlight them in your resume. Achievements demonstrate your skills and strengths in a very concrete way, giving the committee a good reason to choose you over other applicants. Achievements could include volunteer awards, leadership positions, prizes won as part of extracurricular activities, academic achievements such as honors, and internships. Be sure to also briefly mention what you learned from your achievements.

Detailing your academic achievements can certainly enhance your resume, but it’s not necessary to include every small award you’ve won over the years. Make this section detailed, but without any fluff. Only include awards that are relevant to the program you are applying for.

Stick with Reverse Chronological Order

The selection committee will be most interested in hearing about your latest experience and achievements. Therefore, it’s important to list everything in reverse chronological order: start with your most recent awards, projects, or positions and work backwards chronologically.

You should follow this approach for all the elements in your academic resume. This includes academic and professional work experience, research projects, publications, awards, and other achievements.

Include Key Skills and Proficiencies

At the end of your resume, you should include a section covering your skills and abilities . Detail both the hard and soft skills picked up from your undergraduate program and professional experience. You can also list your hobbies, but remember to avoid fluff – only include extracurricular activities that are relevant to your application.

This doesn’t mean that all the skills and hobbies you mention must be directly related to the graduate program; however, they should show the school that you are a strong candidate for one reason or another. For example, sporting achievements demonstrate dedication and motivation, even if they aren’t directly related to the program you’re applying for. Anything that adds value to your resume will help make your application stand out.

Wherever possible, back up your statements. Rather than just stating that you possess certain skills, provide examples of academic projects that allowed you to build a specific capability, or awards you won that recognize your proficiency in a certain area.

Don’t be Repetitive

Avoid repeating information. If you have only a few achievements to show and you’ve already mentioned them under the education section, you don’t need to create a separate section for achievements and awards. A lengthy resume filled with fluff isn’t going to help you get into your dream school. It’s always better to keep your resume short, concise, and to the point.

Proof Read to Pick up any Errors

Don’t underestimate the importance of proofreading your academic resume for graduate school. Even one or two spelling mistakes, typos, or messy formatting can be a big turn off the selection committees.

If the job description mentions certain skills, ensure that your resume shows that you have these capabilities. How Far Back Should a Resume go for Grad School?

Your graduate school application should be as comprehensive as possible, but you don’t need to go overboard. Likewise, you should generally include professional work experience going back around 10 – 15 years, as long as it’s relevant to the program.

Hello PH redditors. I'm a licensed Mechanical Engineer na nakapasa last February sa board exam. I took a rest time until I started applying in April. Medyo mahirap rin ang job hunt as I only received one interview after passing the company's technical exam (I applied for design engineer by the way). They invited me for an interview but one week later wala paring reply so assume ko na rejected na ako dun. Enroll in registered training programs, TESDA tells trainees

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is encouraging the public to enroll in technical vocational education and training (TVET) programs that have been properly registered with the agency.

“All TVET programs open to the public must first be registered with TESDA.  This is to ensure that these programs strictly comply with TESDA regulations and existing training regulations,” said TESDA Director General Danilo P. Cruz.

Under TESDA’s Unified TVET Program Registration and Accreditation System (UTPRAS) a Certificate of TVET Program Registration (CTPR) is issued to institutions that successfully comply with the requirements of program registration.

Officially registered TVET programs are listed in the TESDA Compendium of Registered Programs and are subjected to compliance audits.  In instances of complaints, surveillance audits may also be conducted.  Corresponding sanctions and penalties will be imposed on institutions that are found to be operating without accreditation

“Our website has a searchable database of all duly registered programs being implemented in tech-voc institutions nationwide.  We urge the public to confirm first with this list before enrolling to avoid inconvenience,” Cruz pointed out.

Graduates of unregistered training programs cannot be issued with corresponding Special Orders, according to Deputy Director General Aniceto Bertiz III, pointing out that their credentials cannot be certificated, authenticated, or verified by TESDA.

In addition, he continued, a graduate of an unregistered program cannot apply for the Apostille of their training records or credentials with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), which will be required should the graduate apply for a job abroad.

“Education and training require a lot of time and effort from our students and trainees.  Enrolling in unaccredited institutions and programs may not be beneficial to their professional advancement,” Bertiz added.

To date, about 17,557 training programs have been duly registered with TESDA and are being implemented by 4,600 public and private schools and training centers across the country.

It usually takes three working days for TESDA to issue a CTPR, provided that all documentary requirements have been sufficiently complied with and submitted.  A registration fee of PhP 2,000 is paid by the applicant institution for every program to be registered. (30)
