What is Range Rover’s Autobiography trim?

October 14, 2015 by carwow staff

' class=

The Range Rover has been one of the ultimate expressions of luxury motoring ever since the first model was released back in 1970. Now in its fourth generation, it competes with the finest executive saloons, offering a comfy ride, and smooth, refined power from a selection of V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines.

Both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are available in several different trim levels, one of which is Autobiography. So what does it offer, and where does it fit into each respective range?

Put either the Range Rover or the Range Rover Sport in our car configurator to see how much carwow could help you save.

There are three distinct trim levels for the Range Rover – Vogue, Vogue SE and Autobiography. The Sport is available in HSE, Autobiography or ultra-sporty SVR variants. The Vogue is overflowing with advanced in-car tech, fine materials and a huge selection of exterior colours and alloy wheel designs.

The Autobiography, however, adds numerous standard features which are optional further down the range. Those looking for a more accommodating rear seat experience can opt for the Autobiography Long Wheelbase (LWB) for an additional £7,400. For an extra £9,050 on top of the cost of the Vogue SE, the Autobiography gains:

Semi-aniline leather upholstery –  while many car interiors feature leather coated with a pigment to colour its surface, aniline leather uses soluble dyes that soak into the hide. This lends the surface a softer, more natural finish, and reveals the natural grain of the leather more prominently.

Winged headrests –  These soft, pillow-like headrests are electrically adjustable, and can wrap around the back of your head for the ultimate in squishy splendour.

Four zone climate control –  allows each passenger to individually adjust the temperature settings. In lesser models a three-zone system is fitted, forcing the rear seat passengers to agree on one temperature.

Illuminated tread plates –  upon opening the doors, occupants are treated to aluminium-trimmed door sills, with glowing “Autobiography” script.

Surround camera system –  a series of cameras allow the central screen to display a bird’s-eye view of the car to the driver – ideal for parking or navigating through tight spaces.

On-board WiFi –  allowing users to surf the web while on the move.

Remote pack heat with timed climate –  the car can be pre-heated or chilled, based on a timer system. It can be set to perform the process weekly, or as a single event up to 16 days in advance.

Rear seat entertainment –  Includes two 10.2-inch screens mounted to the back of the front seats, two pairs of headphones, a remote control and additional 12V and USB ports. This is fitted as standard to the LWB, and is optional for the regular Autobiography.

Still not plush enough?

Beyond the standard Autobiography is the SVAutobiography. Often defined by its two-tone paint finish, it adds further luxurious features and customisation options, and is positioned to take on ultra-high end SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga . It’s priced from approximately £150,000.

What Is The Difference Between A Vogue And An Autobiography?

At first glance, the distinction between a Vogue magazine and an autobiography may not be immediately evident.

The former is a style of magazine made popular by Vogue Magazine, whereas the latter is a narrative account of a person’s life written by the subject themselves.

The main difference between a Vogue magazine and an autobiography is found in the type of content they contain.

A Vogue magazine is usually filled with articles covering fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and culture, meant to inspire its readers.

Additionally, it may include interviews with celebrities, artists, and influential people in the fashion industry.

On the other hand, an autobiography is a narrative written by the subject about their life, usually from the perspective of the writer.

It is usually more personal and reflective, offering insight into the subject’s experiences and opinions.

In terms of the intended audience, a Vogue magazine is generally aimed at a general public, with the intent of providing entertainment and inspiration.

An autobiography, however, is often written for a more specific audience, such as family, friends, or those interested in the life of the writer.

Lastly, the purpose of a Vogue magazine is to provide an escape from the readers’ everyday lives, while an autobiography is meant to give an account of the writer’s life.

A Vogue magazine often focuses on the glamorous lifestyle, whereas an autobiography is often reflective and honest.

In summary, the difference between a Vogue magazine and an autobiography lies in the content, the intended audience, and the purpose of the writing.

A Vogue magazine is packed with articles on fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and culture, while an autobiography is a personal narrative written by the subject about their life, usually for a specific audience.

A Vogue magazine is intended to provide entertainment and inspiration, while an autobiography is intended to provide an honest and reflective account of the writer’s life.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic

what is the range rover sport autobiography

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic is the most luxurious Range Rover Sport - only the Range Rover SVR is more expensive. It rivals the Porsche Cayenne , BMW X5 and the Mercedes ML-Class SUVs.

The Range Rover Autobiography Dynamic is available with three diesels and one petrol engines. The choice of diesels comprise a 225 3.0-litre engines, and a 339bhp 4.4-litre V8 - although the latter provides more ability to pull loads more easily. The sole petrol choice is a 510bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8. There's also a 3.0-litre diesel hybrid which is the cheapest to run, but not by much.

Running costs for the 3.0-litre diesel are not too bad for a big SUV, averaging 40mpg. The 4.4-litre V8 diesel manages 32.5mpg while the most expensive supercharged V8 petrol can only manage 22.1mpg. Up to 44mpg should be possible from the hybrid.

The top-of-the-range Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic comes very well equipped. Standard specification includes huge 21-inch alloy wheels, a full-size panoramic sliding roof, sat nav, leather seats, xenon headlamps, electrically-folding mirrors, a heated steering wheel, electric seats and a premium sound system. There’s also automatic headlamps and wipers, tyre pressure monitors, keyless entry, parking sensors and adaptive cruise control (which maintains a safe distance between you and the car in front).

Good points

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography blends a supple ride with good handling. It’s not quite as fun to drive as a Porsche Cayenne, but it’s a lot more comfortable. All three engines are quiet yet powerful and inside, the Range Rover Sport has a well-built and luxurious interior. It’s also very quiet inside and feels upmarket, stylish and expensive. On the road, despite its size, the Range Rover corners far better than you think, with less roll. Off road it is as capable as the full-size Range Rover – and is well-deserving of the Land Rover badge.

Some of the Range Rover Sport’s rivals (like the BMW X5). And while the interior is spacious, the optional pair of third-row rear seats are only suitable for kids. The Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic is well equipped but be careful when you’re ordering your car new. It’s very tempting to get carried away personalising your car and it doesn’t take long before you’ve added almost £10,000 to its already hefty list price.

What you get

  • Alloy wheels
  • Folding rear seats
  • Panoramic roof
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Full leather seats
  • Automatic wipers

Recommended optional extras

  • Off road pack
  • Panoramic roof blinds

Road Test: Land Rover Range Rover Sport 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography Dynamic 5dr Auto

Large Image (optional)_0.JPG

SPEC HIGHLIGHTS

Land Rover has done what all sensible manufacturers should do and dropped a socking great V8 diesel into its sportiest model - the Range Rover Sport.

Which is great news. Obviously. More power and speed is never a bad thing, especially in a car as brilliant as the Sport. The SDV8 produces 334bhp and a not-insignificant 516lb ft of torque, which means 0-62mph takes just 6.9secs. In a car weighing nearly 2.5 tonnes, that's enough speed.

And it's not even like the Sport - a chunky great SUV, remember - feels unable to cope with this sort of pace. There's no pitch and roll, either under acceleration or during hard cornering, and you get decent feedback from the steering and seat as well.

So far, so great. But the SDV8 Sport has a problem, and it's all Land Rover's fault: the SDV6 engine, that's also available in the Sport with 292bhp and 442lb ft, feels every bit as quick in the real world. And in the theoretical world too, as it's only 0.3secs slower to 62mph. Plus, it's £6,555 cheaper.

It doesn't mean you should avoid the SDV8, as it's an impressive bit of kit, but just be aware that something equally outstanding is also available in your local dealer. Handy.

Pocket-lint

Range rover sport autobiography p510e review: straight six muscle with phev efficiency.

Ahead of a fully electric Range Rover due to arrive in 2024, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e is a hugely impressive plug-in hybrid stop-gap.

We've already seen a new Range Rover this year and it's been closely followed by this, the Range Rover Sport, with a range of variations on the theme to choose from. For example, there's the full-fat Range Rover Sport First Edition P530, with its 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine. Alternatively, pick a mild hybrid petrol or diesel. On the other hand, a much more interesting way to go is in the direction of the extended range plug-in hybrids, in the shape of the P440e or P510e.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e is the car you see here, and it's slightly more powerful than the P440e, though both models feature an excellent 3-litre, straight six engine. It's a perfect alternative to the thirstier V8 and performance feels on a par, or perhaps even smoother than the bigger lump. Add in the usual Range Rover refinements, both on the outside and the inside, along with premium Autobiography trim-level finishing touches and you've got a fantastic bit of kit, albeit for around £154k. Prices start from £114,680 however.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e looks a treat in Varesine Blue, but it's the enormous 23-inch wheels that add an extra touch of flair to the exterior of the SUV. At the front it's those digital LED headlights that really help it stand out from the crowd, but overall the design lines are quite lean and reassuringly mean. There's definitely a brooding vibe going on with this car, especially in the darker colours.

Our quick take

If you’re keen to curtail your petrol costs the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e is an excellent bet in advance of a fully electric model come 2024. The whole package works to great effect, with that seamless switching from EV to straight-six power happening, almost without you noticing. All-wheel-steering, active roll control and adaptive air suspension delivers a ride that's graceful but actually pretty good through the corners too. Around town, despite the nigh-on 5-metre length of the Sport, the SUV feels agile and easy to manage.

On the off chance you get to go off-road there are even more treats in-store, thanks to the well-proven tech settings that can be fine-tuned to tackle any kind of terrain. If you're too busy to bother, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e will just carry on regardless anyway, meaning you can be as involved with the car’s setup as you want to be. Either way, you'll arrive fully rested and relaxed, thanks to comfort and trim levels that are as good as anything else in this class.

FORAGAINST

Design and spec

As you'd expect from such a sizeable SUV, it's easy to get in and out of thanks to chunky doors. However, if you've got the electronic air suspension hiked up following an off-road session it turns out to be further to the ground than you might be expecting.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e photo 2

The Range Rover designers have done an excellent job with the current range of colour schemes, both interior and exterior. All of the variants we saw seemed to strike the perfect balance of looking cool without overdoing the showy features. There are some trim flourishes on offer, but they're largely low-key rather than bling.

Climbing up into the Range Rover, the look and feel isn't revolutionary, but it is a fantastic place to sit and pick over the controls. Right in front of the well-appointed steering wheel there's a 13.7-inch digital dash that is nicely laid out and good on the eyes. There's also the Pivi Pro system, which lives in a central 13.1-inch touchscreen. It's well worth acquainting yourself with its inner workings and especially the suite of off-road settings that can be called upon to get you over any number of obstacles, by trimming the ride height and drive settings.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e photo 10

However, the bulk of owners will probably be more concerned about the everyday obvious stuff, such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Being a Range Rover, you can obviously spend as much as you like on the options, and the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e model we drove packed in plenty and then some.

The other highlight is obviously the space you get from a Range Rover and the Sport is no exception as it sits on the new MLA-Flex platform. This delivers lots of space for people in the front and the rear. There are innovative new seat coverings using a blend of 'ultrafabrics' and internal trimmings too, which help to elevate the comfort levels alongside the space considerations. Out back, there's an electrically operated split tailgate that offers easy access to a sizeable 818-litre luggage area.

The example you see here boasted a Raven Blue/Ebony interior colour combination, which is slightly less ostentatious and probably more durable than the white option seen in other Sport models. Anyone actually planning on getting muddy in their Sport is probably wise to stick with the darker shade.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e photo 3

Sublime collection of tech

Everyone knows just how good a Range Rover can be off-road and the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e is no exception. In order to assist you in your off-the-beaten-track excursions, however infrequent they may well be, there's a sublime collection of tech to help get the job done. Coordinating the settings is done using the central touchscreen and the selector buttons in the centre console.

At first it seems like there's a lot to take in, but once you've got into the swing of it, setting up the Range Rover to take on rough terrain of any type becomes easy enough. The real benefit when you're doing it is the way you can see how the suspension dynamically adapts via some great graphics on the screen. How much owners will actually use the system remains to be seen, but it's well worth hunting out some muddy lanes to put it through its paces, should you get the chance.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e photo 5

There's Cabin Air Purification Pro too, which aims to help you breathe easier while you can also give your ears a solid workout by cranking up the Meridian Signature Sound system. The seats, meanwhile, feature 20-way electronic adjustment with heating and ventilation as part of the package and you also get all of those other accoutrements like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon voice control and wireless phone charging.

The 3D surround camera turns out to be really useful when you're trying to get into those tight spaces, while a range of driver assist options are helpful if you're a little uneasy about the size of the Range Rover. You even get wade sensing if you're considering taking on a deep puddle or minor flood situation come wintertime. Meanwhile, software-over-the-air updates should help to keep things bang up to date further on down the line.

Driving, range and charging

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e makes a lot of sense if you're the sort of driver that's going to be using your SUV around town, rather than out in the sticks. It still packs plenty of performance, with a 0 to 60mph time of just 5.2 seconds and a 150mph top speed, but the EV part of the package - there's a Hybrid driving mode too - means its able to cope with congestion zone charging obstacles with ease.

Despite its size, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e has a WLTP range of up to 70 miles using battery power alone, thanks to a 38.2kWh battery and 141bhp electric motor combination. On top of that, it can call on geofencing technology that switches the car into full-on EV mode when it gets into an inner city area. You can toggle this option manually too if you prefer and, having tried it on a couple of occasions the system turns out to be pretty handy. Considering most Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e owners are likely to be heading into cities quite frequently, this seems like a very sensible feature.

Driving on fully EV resources, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e is, as you'd expect, wonderfully quiet. It's actually really good at getting around less than ideal city streets, something which is helped by the four-wheel steering that is subtle but undeniably useful for getting out of sticky situations.

Hit those bigger out of town roads though and you really start to appreciate just how good the 3-litre, straight six engine is too. It boasts plenty of power and, being mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission, the delivery is silky smooth. In fact, it's a little less erratic than the V8, which offers plenty of grunt, but the delivery doesn't feel quite as linear.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e photo 12

A little bit of wind noise creeps in as you wind up the chunky SUV to legal motorway limits, but aside from that it slips on down the road very nicely indeed. When you need to plug in and recharge there's CCS connectivity, which can get your Rangey back up to 80 percent on chargers up to 50kW in less than an hour. Considering how many owners will be doing the bulk of their runs locally, the up to 70-mile EV range of the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e starts making even more sense.

In advance of a fully electric Range Rover due to arrive in 2024, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography P510e is a hugely impressive plug-in hybrid stop-gap. It can cover up to 70 miles in EV-only mode, offers excellent performance by combining all-electric power with a beefy-but-smooth six cylinder engine and does it all while getting you there in comfort. Plump for the Autobiography model and trim levels are even more sumptuous, while there is a lot of tech on tap and plenty of off-road capability for when, or if, the going ever gets tough.

Range Rover HSE vs Autobiography: which model is better?

Two of the most popular trims are the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography, so let’s take a closer look at the differences.

The Range Rover HSE is a step up from the base model with a 3.0-liter V6 engine with many features making the upgrade worthwhile. The Range Rover Autobiography is the top of the line model with a 5.0-liter V8 engine with every feature imagined included.

However, all these bells and whistles come at a steep price, so it’s important to consider whether the extra features are worth the additional cost.

Let’s take a look further at the comparison of the Range Rover HSE vs Autobiography.

Range Rover HSE vs Autobiography: what’s the difference?

If you’re in the market for a luxury SUV, you might be considering the Range Rover HSE or Autobiography.

Here are key points we’ll cover:

  • The Autobiography is the more expensive option, but it offers more premium features and a more powerful engine.
  • The HSE is more affordable but still offers a comfortable and luxurious ride.
  • Both models have similar fuel efficiency ratings, but the Autobiography has a slightly larger fuel tank.
  • The Autobiography offers more advanced safety features, such as adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.
  • The HSE is a great option for those who want a luxury SUV without breaking the bank, while the Autobiography is perfect for those who want the ultimate luxury experience.

Both models offer impressive features and capabilities but have some key differences that may influence your decision.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the HSE and Autobiography both offer powerful engines and smooth handling.

However, the Autobiography comes with a supercharged V8 engine that delivers even more horsepower and torque than the HSE.

The Autobiography may be the better choice if you’re looking for the ultimate driving experience.

One of the biggest differences between the HSE and Autobiography is the interior.

While both models offer luxurious amenities like leather seats and wood trim, the Autobiography takes things to the next level with additional features like:

  • Executive Class Rear Seats
  • Refrigerated Compartment
  • Meridian Signature Sound System

The Autobiography is the clear winner if you’re looking for the ultimate in comfort and convenience.

Of course, all of these features come at a price.

The Autobiography is significantly more expensive than the HSE, with a starting price that’s about $40,000 higher.

The HSE might be the better choice if you’re on a budget.

Exterior design

When it comes to the exterior design of the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography, there are some notable differences.

Both models have a sleek and modern appearance, but the Autobiography stands out with its unique front and rear bumpers and it’s premium diamond-turned wheels.

One of the most significant differences between the HSE and Autobiography is the range of colors available.

While the HSE comes in a variety of colors, the Autobiography offers a more extensive range of exclusive colors, including Balmoral Blue and Flux Silver.

The Autobiography also offers a two-tone color scheme, which allows you to choose a contrasting roof color for a more personalized look.

In addition to the standard colors, both models offer a range of optional extras, including black exterior packages and gloss black wheels.

The Autobiography also offers a unique exterior styling package that includes a black contrast roof, black exterior accents, and 22-inch wheels.

Overall, the Range Rover Autobiography offers a more exclusive and personalized exterior design, with a wider range of colors and unique styling features.

However, the Range Rover HSE still offers a sleek and modern appearance, with a range of optional extras to help you customize your vehicle to your liking.

Interior design

When it comes to the interior design of the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography, you can expect nothing but luxury and elegance.

From the finest materials to the latest technology, every detail has been carefully crafted to provide you with the ultimate driving experience.

Both the HSE and Autobiography offer a variety of color options to choose from.

The HSE comes with standard colors such as Ebony, Almond, and Espresso, while the Autobiography offers a wider range of colors including Ivory, Cirrus, Eclipse, ECLP, Espres, PIM, VIN Tan, and Pimento.

The choice of colors available for both models allows you to personalize your vehicle to your taste.

Trim options

The Range Rover Autobiography takes the interior design to the next level by offering a choice of two premium trim options.

The first option is the Perforated Diamond-Cut Semi-Aniline Lthr Seat Trim, which comes with a unique diamond pattern and is available in a range of colors.

The second option is the Perforated Windsor Leather Seat Trim, which is available in Alm, Eclip, Ebny, Pimento, and Cir colors.

The HSE comes with the standard Windsor Leather Seat Trim.

The HSE and Autobiography have the latest technology features to enhance your driving experience.

The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, allowing you to connect your smartphone and access your favorite apps.

The Meridian Sound System is also available as an option, providing a premium audio experience.

In conclusion, the interior design of the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography is a testament to the attention to detail and craftsmanship that goes into every vehicle.

Whether you choose the HSE or Autobiography, you can be sure that you will be driving in luxury and comfort.

Regarding performance, the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography are equipped with powerful petrol or diesel engines that deliver impressive performance on the road.

Let’s take a closer look at the engine performance of these two models.

Both the HSE and Autobiography come with a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine that delivers 355 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque.

This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and responsive shifting.

The Range Rover Autobiography offers an optional 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine that delivers an impressive 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque.

This engine is also paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of acceleration, the HSE can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds, while the Autobiography can do it in just 5.1 seconds with the V8 engine.

The HSE has a top speed of 130 mph, while the Autobiography with the V8 engine can reach a top speed of 155 mph.

The HSE and Autobiography offer impressive handling and agility on the road, thanks to their advanced suspension systems and all-wheel drive capabilities.

The Autobiography, however, features an adaptive dynamics system that helps to further enhance its performance and handling.

Terrain response

When it comes to off-roading, Terrain Response is one of the most important features of any Range Rover.

It is a system that adjusts the vehicle’s settings to suit different types of terrain, such as mud, sand, or snow.

The HSE and Autobiography trims both come with Terrain Response as standard, but there are some differences in the details.

On the HSE, Terrain Response is a single-speed system that adjusts the vehicle’s settings for five different types of terrain: General Driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl.

The system uses sensors to detect the type of terrain you are driving on and adjusts the vehicle’s settings accordingly.

For example, in Sand mode, the system will adjust the throttle response, transmission, and traction control to help you maintain traction in loose sand.

On the Autobiography, Terrain Response is a two-speed system that adds an additional mode for more extreme off-roading.

In addition to the five modes on the HSE, the Autobiography also has a Low Range mode for crawling over rocks or steep inclines.

Low Range mode reduces the vehicle’s speed and increases its torque, making it easier to navigate difficult terrain.

Overall, both the HSE and Autobiography trims offer excellent off-road capabilities thanks to Terrain Response.

The Autobiography’s additional Low Range mode may give it a slight advantage in extreme off-roading situations, but for most drivers, the HSE’s single-speed system should be more than sufficient.

Brake calipers

When it comes to the brake calipers on the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography, there are some notable differences.

The HSE comes with Evoque size brake calipers, while the Autobiography comes with Brembo calipers.

Brembo is a well-known brand in the automotive industry and is often associated with high-performance vehicles.

The Brembo calipers are larger and more powerful than the Evoque size calipers found on the HSE.

This means that the Autobiography will have better braking performance than the HSE.

However, it’s important to note that the HSE is still equipped with quality brake calipers.

The Evoque size calipers are still more than capable of providing reliable and effective braking.

In addition to the differences in performance, there are also differences in appearance.

The Brembo calipers on the Autobiography have a distinctive red color, which can add a sporty and aggressive look to the vehicle.

The Evoque size calipers on the HSE are not as eye-catching, but still have a sleek and stylish appearance.

Overall, while the Autobiography’s Brembo calipers do offer better braking performance, the Evoque size calipers on the HSE are still a quality option.

The decision between the two ultimately comes down to personal preference and driving needs.

Here is a quick comparison of the brake calipers on the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography:

Parking assist

When it comes to parking, the Range Rover HSE and Autobiography models come with a range of advanced features to make the task easier and more efficient.

One of these features is Parking Assist, which can help you park your vehicle with greater precision and ease.

With Parking Assist, you can rely on your Range Rover to find an appropriate-sized parking spot and park itself fully.

The system relies on several sensors placed around the vehicle to detect the space and ensure that the SUV won’t get too close to other cars or obstacles.

Once you have switched on the Parking Assist feature, it uses sensors around your Range Rover to measure up potential parking spaces as you drive past.

Once it has detected a space that is 20% or more greater than your vehicle, it asks you to stop, let go of the steering wheel, and select reverse gear via the touchscreen.

The system will then take over and steer the vehicle into the parking space.

Parking Assist can be especially useful when parking in tight spaces or parallel parking, where it can be challenging to judge the distance between your vehicle and other cars or obstacles.

With Parking Assist, you can park your Range Rover with greater accuracy and confidence.

It is worth noting that Parking Assist is not a substitute for safe driving practices.

It is still important to remain alert and aware of your surroundings while parking your vehicle.

Parking Assist is simply a tool to help make the task of parking easier and more efficient.

Autobiography vs HSE Dynamic 8

  • Add to quote

So I’m ordering - my current build is an HS Dynamic loaded up, and I’m trying to decide if going Autobiography is a better option. The biggest difference is the wheels and interior trim -I love the dark engined turned - but not the gloss black, so on the Auto I’d go carbon fiber… That said is the auto a good option - main difference seems to be the Seats - semi-aniline vs the windsor. Surface level seems the better “value“ is the HSE dynamic, even optioned with the standard features sans the seats and carbon trim. Advice is appreciated.

what is the range rover sport autobiography

I have 2017 Dynamic Supercharged V8 and my wife has the 2017 Autobiography. The only difference is like you mentioned the seats. Her Autobiography also has the extended leather (dash, door cards, etc...) and extended grand piano finishers (door cards have the leather trim and pull down map pockets in the front). I think extended leather and extended finishers were an option for the Dynamic, so the only real difference would be the seats which have windsor seats with a different pattern in the stitching. Someone please correct me if there are other differences.

Thanks. Are seats any different / better ? Noticeable ? The current 22 builds indicate the Windsor seats have extended leather (I think).

When I ordered my RRS in 2019, I specifically picked the Autobiography due to the seats. I wanted the 22-way seats (with the ability to "grow" the seat cushion forward for more lower back support) and couldn't get them with the trim levels below the ATB. I test drove the SCV8 Dynamic and the seats in the ATB are definitely better.

I’m 6’3” so assuming this is good for tall guys ?

As long as you're ordering, consider adding the factory tow package that typically includes a full-sized spare with matching wheel, transmission cooler and heavy duty cooling. It's costly to add afterwards if you want the OEM hitch and full tow load rating. All great stuff! And even if you don't expect to tow anything the receiver is useful for bike carriers, hitch baskets, etc.

Good point

Awesome! You won't regret it. I love my Dynamic SC V8, but I would like to have the better leather.

The Land Rover Buying Guide: Every Model, Explained

Rugged and synonymous with prestige, Land Rovers fit in on the trails and on Rodeo Drive.

land rover defender 2022

By Tyler Duffy

Welcome to Brand Breakdown , a series of comprehensive yet easy-to-digest guides to your favorite companies, with insights and information you won’t find on the average About page.

A History of Land Rover

Land Rover is a British automaker that produces luxury four-wheel-drive vehicles. The brand technically began in 1948 when the Rover Company launched the Land Rover Series of off-road vehicles. British Leyland took the brand upmarket with the Range Rover in 1970 and branched off Land Rover into a distinct brand from now-defunct Rover in 1978. Land Rover was later owned by BMW and Ford. Current owner Tata Motors bought Land Rover from Ford in 2008, merging it with Jaguar to form Jaguar Land Rover .

discovery driving on road through the trees

Land Rover has gone full-on luxury these days, but the brand maintains its reputation for off-road capability. Land Rover does not give its vehicles “Trail Rated” badges like Jeep ; it’s presumed — since they carry the name Land Rover — that they are able to do that (yes, even the Evoque). The flipside is Land Rover’s not especially stellar reputation for reliability.

In 2021, Jaguar Land Rover embarked on a new product strategy called “Reimagine .” The Land Rover lineup will shift dramatically toward electrification. Land Rover plans to launch its first EV in 2024 and six within the next five years. By 2030, Land Rover expects every model to have an EV option and EVs to make up 60 percent of Land Rover sales.

Wait, Isn’t Land Rover a “House of Brands” Now?

Sort of. Jaguar Land Rover recently rebranded itself as “JLR,” and as part of that change, the company announced a new “House of Brands” strategy that will see it become four brands (Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, Jaguar) instead of the traditional pairing of Jaguar and Land Rover.

What does this mean for Land Rover? Not a lot, really.

Buyers won’t notice anything different. Range Rover, Defender and Discovery vehicles will still carry Land Rover badging, and you will still visit a Land Rover dealer to buy them. Effectively, what this does is diminish Jaguar — set to become a more low-volume, high-end EV brand — within the portfolio in favor of the more popular Land Rover wing.

Land Rover Terms You Should Know

HSE: Stands for “High Specification Equipment.” This is a higher-than-standard trim level offered on most Land Rover models. SVO and SVR: SVO stands for “Special Vehicles Operations,” the brand’s high-performance wing. The highest-performance vehicles under the SVO wing replace the O with an R, which stands for “racing.” SVO and SVR trims aren’t available across the board, but vehicles that sport the trim level are, in scientific terms, “fun as hell.” Autobiography : This is a Range Rover trim offered on the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport and the Evoque. This trim is fancy. It will have luxury finishes, an array of standard features and come at a significantly higher price point. Dynamic: This is a term affixed to Range Rover trims. These cars are more aggressive and dynamic than non-dynamic trims. That can mean styling. It can also mean a more powerful engine. Range Rover: Land Rover has equity in “Range Rover” as a luxury brand. Thus, four of the seven vehicles are “Range Rovers.” These cars tend to be referred to as just “Range Rovers” because “Land Rover Range Rover X” is a mouthful. Sport : Smaller version. The Range Rover Sport is smaller than the Range Rover. The Discovery Sport is smaller than the Discovery.

The Land Rover Buying Guide

2023 range rover

The Range Rover is Land Rover’s flagship, full-size luxury SUV. The first model was one of the most influential cars ever built . The current fifth-generation model is all-new for 2022 . And with the new House of Brands strategy you can, officially, just call it a Range Rover and avoid the Land Rover Range Rover mouthful.

The Range Rover comes in standard wheelbase (SWB) or long wheelbase (LWB) versions with the option for a third row of seats. Currently, you can order a Range Rover with either inline-six or V8 powertrains. A six-cylinder PHEV version entered the lineup for the 2023 model year. Four-wheel steering is now standard across the lineup. The price tag now starts above $100,000.

The Range Rover Evoque is a subcompact luxury crossover. It’s Land Rover’s smallest and cheapest model that still carries Range Rover branding, with a price tag still technically under $50,000. Land Rover Discovery

The Land Rover Discovery is Land Rover’s less premium (but still quite premium) midsize SUV. It is less luxurious and more family-oriented than the Range Rover Sport. The current third generation (or fifth iteration) Discovery debuted for 2017. The Disco is one of the best SUVs for towing , with a pickup truck-like 8,201-pound rating. A seven-seat, three-row interior setup is standard, and a two-row version is optional.

  • Land Rover Discovery S
  • Land Rover Discovery Dynamic SE

Base MSRP: $48,900

Land Rover Defender

land rover defender 2022

The Land Rover Defender is Land Rover’s original overland vehicle, the British equivalent of the Jeep Wrangler . Before 1983, it was just known as the “Land Rover.” Land Rover produced a brief run of “NAS” Defenders sold in North America from 1993 to 1997. JLR discontinued the body-on-frame Defender’s continuous production run in 2016. Land Rover revived the Defender nameplate in 2020 with a new unibody SUV. It won the World Car Design of the Year award for 2021 .

The Defender now comes in three body styles: a two-door Defender 90, a four-door Defender 110 and a three-row Defender 130 . The numerical designations no longer track precisely with the Defender wheelbase. It comes with inline-four, inline-six or now a supercharged V8 powertrain .
