write a speech as a sports prefect

Have you ever heard a motivational speech made for sports before? I for one have heard people making speeches before a game, but that was a long time ago. Speaking of speeches , have you ever attended one or was the one who made the speech? For some people attending a sports speech may sound boring, while others find it cool or informative. Depending on who may be making the speech and how they may persuade their audience. Have you ever written a speech or made a speech before? The fact that writing or making speeches often makes people nervous.

Especially for those who are not used to it or have the fear of public speaking. It goes without saying, a good speech is just as good as the one who is presenting it. When given the chance to speak up about a favorite sport in a sporting event, why don’t you go ahead and try? Not only will it give those listening a boost up, it is also a good way to be able to convince them on what you want to say. But first, we must know how to write a good speech. So let’s go.

What Is a Sports Speech?

A sports speech is a kind of speech that is usually given to kids or teenagers to explain the importance and the fun of being active. This speech is also a way to make them reflect on the meaning of true sportsmanship. In addition to that, when making the sports speech, you may also include the importance of exercise and having fun through various kinds of sports. This type of speech is to encourage, motivate and to persuade those who may not be into sports to try out and do their best. Your audience may be a mix of children, students, teachers or even teenagers, so it is best to watch what you may be saying in case they may misinterpret it. In your speech, you have to have enough information to persuade or give enough ideas and opinions. Basically research is still a part of this. The key to making this a good sports speech is through knowing how to motivate your audience who can vary from age groups and their love or lack of it for sports. Moving on, it’s time we know how to write a good sports speech to wow your audience.

How to Write a Sports Speech?

Now that we know what a sports speech is, what it is for and why it is important and useful, it is that time of the moment to know how to write a good sports speech. Are you ready ? I know I am. Let’s go!

1. Start With a Short Introduction

Just as any kind of speech you may be writing or may be doing, you should always start with a short introduction . Introduce yourself and what you are going to be talking about would be nice. This is to make your audience aware of what you are going to talk about and who you are as well. A short introduction is all you need before you are going to be talking about sports.

2. Add a Short Anecdote to Match Your Speech

Your anecdote is only to capture your audience’s attention. Especially if your audience happens to be a wide variety of people. Your anecdote however should have a moral that goes with your sports speech. The speech is the main point but the anecdote is going to be one thing that helps your audience capture the essence of it. Basically, your anecdote is the stepping stone of your sports speech. So match both.

3. Speak About the Importance of Sportsmanship

You should be speaking about what your sports speech is about. If your theme is about sportsmanship or the general idea about sports, use that. However, also add the importance of sportsmanship and the value of sports when it comes to children and teenagers. As we know that they may have this idea of competitiveness, it is still best to add it.

4. Use Simple Words

When you are going to be explaining something in your speech, it is always best to use simple words over words that may not be as familiar to your audience as it is to you. Remember that your audience can be a mix of children, teenagers and even adults, so what adults may be able to understand the rest may not. In addition to that, be careful with how you word your speech. Avoid any words that may look as if it could be misinterpreted and may lead to some serious issues.

5. Finish Your Speech With a Positive Mindset

Just as how you made your speech, a positive and enthusiastic upbeat attitude, you should also end your speech with the same attitude. Let your audience know that what you mean in your speech is true. During your speech, persuade the audience to make them believe. As you finish your speech, do the same. Remind them with the power of persuasion. Remind them with a positive attitude and a positive mindset.

What is a sports speech?

A sports speech is a kind of speech that is used to encourage, persuade and inform people who may either want to know about the sport they may be playing, to know about sportsmanship and to those who love listening to others talking about sports.

What topics are good for this kind of speech?

Good sports news, about one kind of sport that you may want to talk about. Most of the topics for this kind of speech can range from athletes to the not so common sports and the talk of sportsmanship.

Who are most likely the audience for this speech?

The most likely audience for this kind of speech are students, teachers, and even those who may be interested in sports.

Persuasive Speech: I Should Be the Next School Prefect

I should be your next school prefect because I have all the best things to offer the position and the establishment. To start with, I have an engaging and positive attitude that makes it easy to relate to students and staff. Not only that, but I am cheerful and love to take on new challenges. I have plenty of experience working with others in a leadership role so I am prepared to take on this duty with all the necessary achievements and requirements under my belt.

One of my main jobs will be working with the students and staff at the school to help them deal with both positive and negative issues that arise on campus. I will help each one of them give voice to their needs and wants so that we can work together to create the perfect school environment for everyone. I will meet with the headmaster on a regular basis to problem solve and come up with solutions to issues that students might be having at school. Each and every student should know that I am on their side and promise to make school as great as it can be for them.

When it comes to my qualifications, I believe I have what it takes to make a great leader. I have a confidence that makes it simple for me to speak before a crowd in a proficient and knowledgeable way. I enjoy answering questions about myself and am always willing to discuss issues and assist in finding a solution. I am easy to talk to and promise to take each issue seriously so that students feel heard and understood, no matter what they might be facing. I am good at communicating what needs to be done as well as my appreciation for the help that others give me. I’m not afraid to ask for help when I need it and would rather admit it than try to solve a problem alone, only to find out that I’m not equipped to do so without assistance. I am also able to plan large events, such as holiday parties and enjoy working as part of a team. I am able to share ideas and tasks with my group and am able to give up some control for the good of everyone involved. You will always find me open and willing to talk, both about the good and the bad.

As a prefect, I want to help the school be the best it can be by partnering with students, staff and parents to ensure that each problem is solved and make the school a fun and educational environment for each and every student that attends. I want to take on the role of prefect so that I can continue in this tradition and use my talents and time to create the perfect school for anyone. Each student will feel happy and at home at school and parents will be assured that their child will be safe on campus and will get a superior education while they are here.

In summary, I love what being a prefect means for me and my fellow students. I want this experience to further enhance my life and my experience, but I also want to share what I have to offer with other students. This school has provided me with so many opportunities and chances to learn and I feel like it’s my duty to give back by becoming a prefect and giving something back to the school and the students and staff that are here on a daily basis. Thank you!

Speech for School Election in English - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

An election is one of the essential pillars of democracy, and it is through this democratic system that people can choose the representatives of their choice who they feel have the capability to become leaders. Here are some speeches for the school election.

10 Lines Speech for School Election

"Somewhere inside us is the power to change the world."

1. A pleasant morning to all my friends who are present here. As we are aware, today is school election day. The fact that you are here shows that I have your support.

2. The decision to contest the student council election was challenging. But If you aspire to help the people around you, solve their problems and work for their interests.

3. A school provides the first opportunity to give wings to your dreams.

4. We all are fortunate to study in this excellent school where students have ample opportunities to explore, expand and excel.

5. Being a student takes work; becoming a school leader will take a lot of work.

6. But I assure you, if I win the election, I will work for the benefit of all of us.

7. If you would like the school to introduce an introductory Artificial Intelligence course as a vocational subject or provide excellent quality food in the canteen, I will vouch for that.

8. Friends, I believe in working as a team. No leader can survive alone, and the best results are obtained when the interests of everyone are taken care of.

9. I stand for justice and won't let you down if you choose me.

10. As I conclude my speech, I urge all of you to vote for me and give me a chance to take this school to greater heights.

Short Speech for School Election

"If there was one thing you could change about this school, what would it be!"

A pleasant morning to everyone present here. I am so happy to see all of you in active mode, and this points to your support for me.

Once Abraham Lincoln said, "Of the people, by the people, for the people." This describes the essence of democracy; in a democratic country, people can choose their government by themselves without any pressure.

Elections are the best tool if they are used relatively and no malpractice is allowed. Candidates should remember this if people have the right to choose them and will enable them to run the government, and if they don't, then they can be overthrown as well by the people. They are free to vote for any candidate according to their preferences.

Election gives us the power to choose the best leader in every session. If one is not performing up to the mark, he can be replaced in the next voting session. An election is an excellent opportunity for people to voice their dissatisfaction. People can replace undesirable leadership with a better alternative through the election.

With my experience and passion, I could be a great leader. I promise to do my best to curb bullying, increase student interest in school and increase overall academic achievement.

Long Speech for School Election

"Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves and one another."

Firstly, let me thank you all for your presence here today. As you all know that I am running for the Presidential post in the upcoming school council election, I would like to use this opportunity to share my views about the kind of work I would love to do for the welfare of the school and the students.

"Of the people, by the people, for the people," stated Abraham Lincoln once. This sums up democracy in its most basic terms; citizens make their own, pressure-free decisions about their government. Same way, students can make these decisions to elect a candidate for the presidential post for the school student council.

As a student, I feel that education is not just the pillar of success for us. We all need good services, be it infrastructure, adequate counseling, focus on extracurricular activities, and vocational courses on personality development. Being a student takes work; becoming a student leader is challenging. Today, I am feeling the same while addressing you and asking for your support in the election.

If I Get Elected

It is rightly said, “with great power comes great responsibility”.

If I get elected, my first work would be to improve the sanitation and hygiene of the students. I shall ensure that our playground and the parking lot are appropriately maintained and sanitized. I am also considering seeking confirmation from the administration to allow two game periods a day, considering the workload we have.

We are thinking of implementing a photography course and piano classes as vocational subjects in the coming days, and our team is working hard to achieve all these goals. If given this opportunity, I shall fight for equality, justice, and transparency for our student council, where every student gets a chance to raise their voice.

Sadhguru once said, "Integrity, Insight, and Inclusiveness are the three essential leadership qualities". We also believe in the same principle of leading an organization or a system, where our sole aim is to take care of the interests of the students of our school so that they get the best education, health, and hygiene facilities. All these factors are essential for their overall development, as well as for the school's progress too.

Our focus is not just on academic progress, but we also have our priorities set on co-curricular activities and sports. We plan to allocate more coaches in games like volleyball, cricket, football, badminton etc to all sports enthusiasts who want to pursue a career in this field.

With my experience and passion, I think I could be a great leader. Friends, I also believe in working as a team, and fighting for justice, whenever the need arises. Together with me, let us work for the well-being of the student and the school. Choose your vote wisely, and may the best person win.

Long and Short Sports Speech in English For Students and Children

Long speech on sports for students.

Today, I am fortunate enough to get the opportunity to speak on the topic of Sports. One thing that is common among us is that, because of our monotonous routine, we often get tired or stressed. The human body is not a machine, and keeping it working efficiently requires time and investment. Every day, our minds often get frustrated with the same routine. It needs replenishment, and in this regard, sports are the best therapy ever. People who participate in various kinds of sports often find themselves more energetic and are the happiest people.

For a person's physical and mental development, sports are very important. It has several beneficial effects, including increased blood flow, improved concentration and thinking ability. It also creates awareness and enhances reflexes, reducing reaction time.

A sportsman, because he/she is physically and mentally fit to do so, can make quick and rational decisions. In building a person's physical stamina, outdoor sports such as swimming, cricket, football, volleyball, etc. are very beneficial. These sports require a great deal of running or physical movement, which increases the individual's physical capacity. It is well observed that, due to health problems and laziness, many students fail to demonstrate excellent performance at their school, college or university. It is also found in adults that they are unable to do their best at their job. The reason behind all these things is that our lifestyle lacks sports.

The importance of sports must be accepted and the time spent on the field should be increased. There should be competitions at all levels and all players who are interested in pursuing sports professionally should be supported by the government. In every city, there should be playing grounds for our youth to maintain their fit and healthy selves. It is not only important to take part in sports activities for physical development, but also mental growth. Such activities teach the skills to deal with difficult circumstances in life. It also teaches the value of involvement and trying. This improves team-building abilities as well as decreases stress. It helps to increase blood flow and helps keep health issues away from you. It also helps to maintain the balance between work and personal life through the elimination of exhaustion. Happiness is also increased by engaging yourself in sports or games.

Choosing a sport with high value or rules is not necessary, even tiny and easy sports can go a long way. It is essential to allow our children and individuals to participate in sports events for better health, body growth, and encourage them to make a career in this field as well. In conclusion, I would like to add that it is essential to take part in sports, no matter how hard you work or how long you work, to increase productivity and decrease lethargy.

Short Speech on Sports for Students

I am here today to speak on the topic of Sports.

The sport includes all sorts of competitive physical activity or games that, through casual or organized participation, are partially aimed towards using, maintaining or improving physical skills and abilities while providing participants with enjoyment and, in some cases, spectators with entertainment.

Sports generate purposeful and meaningful social relationships, especially team sports. Man is a social animal; we need to connect with others socially. Such social relationships with your friends and colleagues provide you with extremely desirable security, belonging, and ultimately happiness. Therefore, it is not at all a necessity to win or lose in sports or athletics, but the happiness that comes from participation in sports or athletics is a highly cherished trophy.

It is necessary to allow our children and individuals to participate in sports events for better health, body growth, and if they want, they can also make a career in this field. It makes a learner happy and brings happiness in life. It is quite easy to focus on studies and achieve excellence when one is happy and healthy. Sports can be said to provide your mind with the necessary leverage by making it relaxed, sharp and oriented. Aside from the psychological advantages, you also benefit physically from indulging in sports.

Sports develop teamwork and team spirit, which in today's world is very important. But many look at the sport as a waste of time due to current changes, which is wrong. So, in the end, I would like to encourage each one of you to choose a sport of your choice and participate in it, while pushing others around you to do so as well.

10 Lines for Short Sports Speech in English

Physical sports require exercise.

Mind sports involve psychological flexibility, concentration and fast thinking.

For both the participants and the spectators, a good sport should be a source of entertainment.

For a sport to be competitive, fair play is one of the basic requirements.

It plays a major role in improving our physical and mental fitness.

This helps to build self-confidence, team spirit, and mental & physical strength.

There are two kinds of indoor and outdoor sports.

Sports teach us discipline, the value of time, togetherness and unity.

Most sports are free from the age boundary, and they can be played by anyone.

In all kinds of sports, performance-enhancing drugs to increase efficiency are restricted.

Sports are a terrific method for kids to develop important life skills like teamwork and cooperation that will help them later in life. Sports allow kids to enhance their physical skills, get some exercise, learn teamwork, play fairly, and boost their self-esteem. Furthermore, they may teach children essential life values such as how to persevere, win with humility, and lose gracefully.

After much research, it has been found that students who participate in athletics do better in school. Furthermore, sporting activities not only relieve stress and promote physical and mental health, but also aid in the prevention of boy misconduct, conflict, and angry outbursts. The goal is to maintain physical fitness so that our minds can remain strong and clear.

Vedantu has prepared both a long and a short speech on the subject of sports for students. The focus of the speech is on the role and value of sports and games in the lives of students.

Long Speech on Sports

Good day fellow students. I'll be giving a speech about sports and gaming today. I'm delighted I got this topic because it's exciting and relevant to students.

In most schools, sports and games classes are required. This is because children must acclimate to rigorous physical work and not become fatigued easily. It's difficult initially, regardless of the sport. But, over time, one's body adjusts to the movements, strokes, gestures, and so on.

When we participate in a physical sport, whether it's football, swimming, boxing, or any other sport, our bodies, muscles, and bones get a good workout. It gives us strength and increases our energy levels. Sports can be a stress reliever for certain people, making their hearts and body quiet and serene.

Indoor sports and games, such as chess, cards, and billiards, necessitate a greater cerebral effort than physical exertion. You must ponder and play. Players must have a strategy in place as well as a thorough comprehension of the game's laws and regulations.

Sports and sports provide pleasant relaxation, as well as keep our mind and body in good shape, active and collected. You can study and improve any sport or game in your spare time. This instills in us the ability to trust each other, be loyal and calmly solve problems. He teaches us not to give up no matter how many times we fail, and to keep practicing until we succeed.

People should learn about and participate in a variety of sports and games. That way, they'll be able to figure out which sport is ideal for them. You must be completely committed to the sport or game you have chosen. You must devote 100% of your attention to the game while playing. You must play the game and have fun with it. You must allow the energy to flow naturally through your body. Students should be encouraged to learn things outside of the classroom.

Short Speech on Sports

Good day fellow students. I am ecstatic to be able to speak on one of my favorite subjects, sports. Sports are an important part of everyone's life. It is a component of education that strives to promote an individual's overall development.

Indoor games and outdoor games are the most common sorts of games and sports. People must comprehend and explore all of their possibilities to determine which is best for them.

Sports keep us motivated and create a healthy competitive environment in which we may improve. It also emphasizes team-building activities, as the team participates in a variety of games. It eliminates hesitation and inspires people to move forward in life despite all challenges and setbacks.

Points to consider BEFORE you write your speech

Image: various colored hands waving. Text: - vote me.

You'll make a better job of completing the printable student council speech template if you  take the time to go through the points below.

And then, read the student council speech examples, before you start to write.

Research the role

Think about your audience, what tone or choice of vocabulary is best suited to them.

Avoid trying to impress with either 'big' words or use of slang. Both are traps! Be yourself. Authentic. Real.

Keep your language conversational rather than overly formal and use smaller rather than large sentences.

Try using active rather than passive words. These convey enthusiasm. For examples, see this page on using action verbs . You'll discover how to go from boring bla bla bland to dynamic excitement.

What 'hook' will you use to get them to listen? Humor? Humor is good if it is relevant and inclusive rather than exclusive. (No 'in' jokes!).

Your goal in the role you want

Avoid setting up expectations that you will deliver beyond your capability. :-)

It might be very tempting, but can you really reduce school hours, increase academic standards, introduce a range of exciting new extracurricular activities, as well as have a 'green day' and a movie night every month? Please keep it real!

Your credibility or qualifications

Now is not the time either to be shy or arrogantly big-headed! Let the audience know how right you are for the role you want.

Set yourself apart from other candidates by sharing compelling personal stories or anecdotes that both support your pitch, and show you understand the key issues that matter to your fellow students.

Your school's requirements

If your speech does not meet pre- established criteria in any way you may find it is returned to you edited. It's safer to find out what those criteria are BEFORE writing to avoid having to re-write or worse, being disqualified entirely.

Mockery and personal insults are not clever. They boomerang back on you, letting your audience know you're not to be trusted and neither are you ready for leadership.

Readily acknowledging the skill and expertise of your fellow candidates sincerely in a way that doesn't demean yourself, or them, shows an open mind and maturity.

Aim to have your speech ready BEFORE the deadline.

Give yourself time to prepare thoroughly, including time to review of your opponents' campaigns. That can be very useful for seeing their strengths as well as their weaknesses, which you can then respond to in your own material.

Student Council President speech example

Here's a sample student council speech. I've written it from the perspective of someone running for President.

As you read it, imagine it said aloud. That will help you get the rhythm and flow of language. The speech is between 3 - 4 minutes long, depending on how quickly you speak.

Vote Sophia Clarke for Student Council President

Image: multi-colored hands waving. Text: YES! Sophia Clarke for President Student Council.

"I’ve got a question for you. I’m not asking you to shout your answer out, or raise your hand. All I’m asking is that you give it room in your mind. Let it sit for a bit, and have a think about it.

My question is – do you believe like I do, that all of us deserve the opportunity to make the best of ourselves? Not second best, 3 rd , or even, highly commended. The BEST.

I’m Sophia Clarke. I’m in the 12 th  grade, and I’m running for president. My vision is that each student is enabled to develop the skills and confidence to become the bigger, better version of themselves. The best they can be.  Regardless of who they are, and what they need to achieve that.

It’s an audacious goal. Some would say an idealistic, rather than a realistic, one.

However I say it’s awesome. And that you’re intelligent people who realize that reaching any goal starts with taking the first step.

So let me remind you why choosing me, Sophia Clarke, for president, is also choosing a better chance for yourself, and everyone else to grow.

I know you, and I know your needs well. I’ve served on your behalf in multiple roles through my years here; secretary, auditor, public relations officer, and have successfully taken on multiple issues. You’ll know some of those through directly benefiting from them.

It was me who was behind the push to get a regular anti-bullying program running throughout the school. That was two years ago, and now the  Teens Against Bullying  message underpins what we expect and strive for in our every day dealings with each other.

We know incidents of bullying are far fewer as a result. As our orange tee shirts say we ‘choose kindness, acceptance and inclusion’ for each other, and our selves.

Who has been involved in our mentoring-homework program? Either as a buddy-tutor or as a student getting a helping hand? And who, like me, is passionate about making sure that everybody gets a fair go?

In the past year, under my watch that program has escalated. We have over 50% more tutors across more subject areas and more students taking up the offer of help. That is a fabulous outcome for everybody. Truly win-win.

A tick in the box alongside my name is a tick for the continued growth of those programs. Their value is proven. They allow each of us to grow and experience the strength and confidence that comes from knowing that we can make a positive difference in other people’s lives as well as our own.

When you vote me for President you get my capacity to organize, to liaise, to listen and to speak, working for the benefit of everybody.

A 'yes' for me is a 'yes' for appreciating and celebrating diversity.

A 'yes' for me, Sophia Clarke for President, is 'yes' to a better you.

And together that is a 'yes' to a better life, and a better school, for all of us."

Student Council Vice President speech example

Like the speech above, this one runs to approximately 4 minutes when said aloud. Try it and see.

Image: poster for student council election. Text: YES! Jason Hull for Vice President, Student Council

Nod your head if you've heard of the phrase '2nd fiddle' or '2IC'.

What about 'sidekick'?

Not booting a ball in from a sideline but a trusty partner to whoever it is who has the leading role. Like Robin is for Batman.

Or like, {name of your country's Vice President or Prime Minister} is for {name of country's President or Prime Minister} or {name of your school's Vice Principal} is for {name of your school's Principal}!

Well, that's what I aspire to - to become the trusty, tried and true sidekick to the President on our student council.

My name is Jason Hull. I'm in Grade 12 and proudly standing in front of you today as a candidate for the role of Vice President. Yes, I am asking you to give me something of immense value - your vote.

I know what the issues, here at {name of school} are. As part of my campaign, I've interviewed you, and listened. I promise your ideas will be acted on.

Afterall I've trained for this role, put in the time. You know, I know how to get things done.

Last year I served as Secretary and the year before that I was a representative for the committee - proof that I'm committed to bettering our school environment not just for you, but for everybody!

With your support, I'll be your go-to guy when you want to make sure that your opinions and feedback reach the decision-makers.

One of my main goals as your Vice President is to champion your initiatives: amongst others, that's the library extensions you told me about, the desire for healthier food choices in our cafeteria, and the urgent need to increase and diversify the workforce and out-reach opportunities that so many of you mentioned.

Whether you're passionate about improving our school facilities, or enhancing our community involvement, I'll be there to guide and help you.

In the role of Vice President, I will work alongside the President fulfilling my duties to the best of my ability.

Together, we'll make sure that your concerns, and hopes are not just heard but actively pursued. Not 'I' will make sure, but 'we'.

There is no 'I' in we, and that too, is a prerequisite of the Vice President's position: the capacity to put aside ego and to work productively for the good of all.

Because together, we, the Vice President, the President and the other council members, are stronger and can achieve more.

The Vice President role may be a support act but it's a vital one.  To succeed in it, collaboration is key. I promise to work hand in hand not only with the President but also with the entire student council team, our teachers, and our administration on your behalf.

Unity is strength. More than ever, we need to nurture understanding, kindness and respect for each other. Regardless of your grade, interests, or background, I want every one of you to feel valued and heard.

That's a goal many would say is impossible.

However, I say, we need to be the difference we want to see in the world. And to borrow those famous words of Helen Keller's: "Alone we can do so little. Together we can so much."

It would be an honor to be your voice, your eyes and your ears as Vice President.

So, I ask you, will you trust me to have your best interests at heart? Will you enable me to work on your behalf?

And are you willing to give me, Jason Hull, your vote for best sidekick, aka. Vice President?

I'll take those smiles, as a 'Yes'.

After you've finished writing your speech

Now that you've finished writing, you're ready to begin work on your delivery: how you present the speech to your audience.

The first step in that process is making sure your speech fits comfortably into whatever time you've been allocated.

After that comes rehearsal. The information you need for both steps is below.

Timing and word count

Student Council Speeches are generally brief: around 1-4 minutes long which isn't a lot of time! That's between approximately 150 - 600 words at an average speaking rate of 150 words per minute.

To be safe say your speech out loud as if you were delivering it for real and time it. In some schools going overtime can result in being disqualified.

Going faster to fit everything in

Please do not be tempted to say it faster to get everything you planned said. As a strategy it doesn't work. You'll end up gabbling: speaking far too quickly and people won't be able to understand what you're saying.

Cutting out extra material

If you have got too much material for the time limit, cut it. Choose the least important ideas to let go of first. Then move on to rephrasing to reduce the number of words used to express a point.

When you think it's done, repeat the test. Say it out loud as if you were actually giving it, and time it.

If you're now within the allotted time, you are ready for rehearsal.

For more about word count see: how many words per minute in a speech

How to rehearse your speech

Round button -multi-colored hands waving in affirmation - the word "rehearse" across image.

Please, please  rehearse your speech ! Do not be tempted to wing it. The more you rehearse the easier it will be to deliver it well.

Remember it is only 1 to 4 minutes long! In that time your goal is to have your audience ready to vote for you.

You can help them make that decision by being confident and prepared. You will show that through:

  • your speaking style  - natural, sincere, fluent, understandable (clear and able to be heard without straining)
  • your body language  - relaxed, open gestures, good eye contact and smiling
  • your personal grooming or presentation  because how you look 'speaks' too. Make sure that your clothing and general grooming supports your speech because, like it or not, you will be judged on both!

Are they funny? Formal? Too hurried? Confident? Familiar with the audience?

It can help to look at what others have done. Even if it's only to decide their way will not be your way!

Name:
Grade: 6
Position: Sports
Profile:

I am Christopher Ocran. I am 11 years old and a student of grade six ‘c’. I applied for the position of a sports prefect. I would like to be your sports prefect because sports as we all know is a very good form of exercise for young children like us and makes us very healthy. I realized that most student usually go out to buy all sorts of snack during P.E.

I would like to bring a variety of sports to the school. At the moment, many students usually play football or skip. We can introduce other sports like volley balls. Basketball, athletics and aerobics to get everybody interested in one sport or the other.

Former sports prefects wanted to do this and I would like to ensure this happens as this will reduce the amount of playing during P.E. Angels School has never been a sports school and I would like to see pupils bring out their talents in the different sporting activities. I believe I am the best candidate for this position. As most of you, I am a sportsman and an avid martial arts student who has won medals and trophies in national competition and now a 1st degree black belter.

I promise to teach all students who are interested in Tae Kwon Do during P.E. when I am voted into office.

A vote for me will mean a vote for the total transformation in our sporting activities.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share my vision through my manifesto. I hope you will make a right decision by voting for me as your sports prefect.

As we all know a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. Once again. Thank you

If you've applied to be a prefect at your school, or you're already serving as one, you might be wondering how to be the best prefect. To be a good prefect, it's important to remember that your role is to help both the faculty and the students at your school. By setting a good example for students, following your school's rules, and being there when people need you, you can ensure that you're successfully fulfilling all your duties as a prefect.

Setting a Good Example

Step 1 Have a positive attitude

  • For example, if your fellow students are complaining because the upcoming dance got cancelled, instead of complaining with them, you could say something positive like, "I know it's upsetting that the dance is cancelled, but we should all get together and think of something else we could do for fun that night."

Step 2 Be respectful...

Following the Rules

Step 1 Abide by your school’s dress code.

Being There for Students

Step 1 Be approachable...

Alicia Oglesby

Compassion is a sign of a thoughtful role model. Show you can be a thoughtful role model for others by demonstrating compassion, curiosity about the world, awareness of different viewpoints, and responsibility in following through on duties. Be solution-oriented and lead by mature example.

Step 4 Be fair.

Tips from our Readers

  • Should problems arise requiring administrative attention, advocate for the student perspective to faculty respectfully but steadfastly. As liaison between the two groups, tactfully serve as that crucial bridge for understanding.
  • Near the end of your tenure, privately encourage impressive leadership qualities you’ve observed in potential prefect candidates that could continue traditions of excellence after your term concludes. Help guide the future.
  • If younger students approach asking for guidance, offer a listening ear and thoughtful bits of wisdom, not just recitations of school policy. Mentor gently when sought out, rather than preaching rules harshly unprompted.
  • Keep a subtle eye on fellow prefects too, as your duty requires holding one another equally accountable. Politely but firmly remind any you witness violating codes of conduct, even minor slip-ups. Integrity matters.
  • Make an effort to remain visible and unambiguously available for student questions or issues during free periods by wandering halls greeting peers. Your consistent presence cultivates approachability.
  • Consider organizing occasional casual social events like movie nights or game tournaments to nurture bonding opportunities for students outside rigid classroom walls. Such activities build community.

Sports Prefect Manifesto

Sports Prefect Manifesto

A transformer is a static electrical device that transfers energy by inductive coupling between its winding circuits. A varying current in the primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the transformer’s core and thus a varying magnetic flux through the secondary winding.

This varying magnetic flux induces a varying electromotive force (EMF), or “voltage”, in the secondary winding In electrical engineering, two conductors are referred to as mutual-inductively coupled or magnetically coupled [1] when they are configured such that change in current flow through one wire induces a voltage across the ends of the other wire through electromagnetic induction. The amount of inductive coupling between two conductors is measured by their mutual inductance.

Transformers range in size from a thumbnail-sized coupling transformer hidden inside a stagemicrophone to huge units weighing hundreds of tons used in power plant substations or to interconnect portions of the power grid. All operate on the same basic principles, although the range of designs is wide. The transformer is based on two principles: first, that an electric current can produce a magnetic field (electromagnetism) and second that a changing magnetic field within a coil of wire induces a voltage across the ends of the coil (electromagnetic induction).

Changing the current in the primary coil changes the magnetic flux that is developed. The changing magnetic flux induces a voltage in the secondary coil. An ideal transformer is shown in the figure below. Current passing through the primary coil creates a magnetic field. The primary and secondary coils are wrapped around a core of very high magnetic permeability, such as iron, so that most of the magnetic flux passes through both the primary and secondary coils.

If a load is connected to the secondary winding, the load current and voltage will be in the directions indicated, given the primary current and voltage in the directions indicated (each will be alternating current in practice). Ideal power transformer If a load is connected to the secondary winding, current will flow in this winding, and electrical energy will be transferred from the primary circuit through the transformer to the load. Transformers may be used for AC-to-AC conversion of a single power frequency, or for conversion of signal power over a wide range of frequencies, such as audio or radio frequencies.

In an ideal transformer, the induced voltage in the secondary winding (Vs) is in proportion to the primary voltage (Vp) and is given by the ratio of the number of turns in the secondary (Ns) to the number of turns in the primary (Np) as follows: If the secondary coil is attached to a load that allows current to flow, electrical power is transmitted from the primary circuit to the secondary circuit. Ideally, the transformer is perfectly efficient. All the incoming energy is transformed from the primary circuit to themagnetic field and into the secondary circuit.

If this condition is met, the input electric power must equal the output power: giving the ideal transformer equation Hysteresis losses Each time the magnetic field is reversed, a small amount of energy is lost due to hysteresis within the core. For a given core material, the loss is proportional to the frequency, and is a function of the peak flux density to which it is subjected. [52] Eddy current losses Ferromagnetic materials are also good conductors and a core made from such a material also constitutes a single short-circuited turn throughout its entire length.

Eddy currents therefore circulate within the core in a plane normal to the flux, and are responsible for resistive heating of the core material. The eddy current loss is a complex function of the square of supply frequency and inverse square of the material thickness. [52] Eddy current losses can be reduced by making the core of a stack of plates electrically insulated from each other, rather than a solid block; all transformers operating at low frequencies use laminated or similar cores.

Magnetostriction related losses Magnetic flux in a ferromagnetic material, such as the core, causes it to physically expand and contract slightly with each cycle of the magnetic field, an effect known as magnetostriction. This produces the buzzing sound commonly associated with transformers[37]that can cause losses due to frictional heating. This buzzing is particularly familiar from low-frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz) mains hum, and high-frequency (15,734 Hz (NTSC) or 15,625 Hz (PAL)) CRT noise. Stray losses

Leakage inductance is by itself largely lossless, since energy supplied to its magnetic fields is returned to the supply with the next half-cycle. However, any leakage flux that intercepts nearby conductive materials such as the transformer’s support structure will give rise to eddy currents and be converted to heat.. [53] There are also radiative losses due to the oscillating magnetic field but these are usually small. Mechanical losses In addition to magnetostriction, the alternating magnetic field causes fluctuating forces between the primary and secondary windings.

These incite vibrations within nearby metalwork, adding to the buzzing noise and consuming a small amount of powe Laminated steel cores Transformers for use at power or audio frequencies typically have cores made of highpermeability silicon steel. [59] The steel has a permeability many times that of free space and the core thus serves to greatly reduce the magnetizing current and confine the flux to a path which closely couples the windings. General Types of Transformers

Transformers are more than just extraterrestrial robots—they’re also highly useful devices for transferring energy between circuits. By using inductively coupled electrical conductors as the main agent of transfer, a change in current in the first circuit is carried over to the second circuit, which subsequently assumes the new charge. Each end of the circuit carries the charge within a winding—either primary or secondary—which is constituted of electrically conductive wire wound around opposite ends of the transformer core, which has high magnetic permeability, making the transfer possible.

In an ideal situation, the change in voltage is proportional, with the second circuit receiving voltage in relation to the number of turns in the primary winding. The voltage is therefore manipulated by altering the number of turns in the primary winding to be larger or smaller than the number of turns in the secondary winding, which either increases or decreases the amount of electricity received. Transformers are essential when it comes to the national power grid and are responsible for transmitting large amounts of high voltage power over long distances.

This is not to say that all transformers are large—they come in many different sizes—and some are certainly not designed for high levels of output. Depending on the intended function and the amount of power needed, transformers can be as small as a fingernail or weigh several hundred tons. Common Types of Transformers Autotransformers Autotransformers are different from traditional transformers because autotransformers share a common winding. On each end of the transformer core is an end terminal for the winding, but there is also a second winding that connects at a key intermediary point, forming a third terminal.

The first and second terminals conduct the primary voltage, while the third terminal works alongside either the first or second terminal to provide a secondary form of voltage. The first and second terminals have many matching turns in the winding. Voltage is the same for each turn in the first and second terminal. An adaptable autotransformer is another option for this process. By uncovering part of the second winding and using a sliding brush as the second terminal, the number of turns can be varied, thus altering voltage (see image on right).

Polyphase Transformers This type of transformer is commonly associated with three phase electric power, which is a common method of transmitting large amounts of high voltage power, such as the national power grid. In this system, three separate wires carry alternating currents of the same frequency, but they reach their peak at different times, thus resulting in a continuous power flow. Occasionally these “three-phase” systems have a neutral wire, depending on the application. Other times, all three phases can be incorporated into one, multiphase transformer.

This would require the unification and connection of magnetic circuits so as to encompass the three-phase transmission. Winding patterns can vary and so can the phases of a polyphase transformer. Leakage Transformer Leakage transformers have a loose binding between the primary and secondary winding, which leads to a large increase in the amount of inductance leakage. All currents are kept low with leakage transformers, which helps prevent overload. They are useful in applications such as arc welding and certain high-voltage lamps, as well as in the extremely low-voltage applications found in some children’s toys.

Resonant Transformer As a type of leakage transformer, resonant transformers depend on the loose pairing of the primary and secondary winding, and on external capacitors to work in combination with the second winding. They can effectively transmit high voltages, and are useful in recovering data from certain radio wave frequency levels. Audio Transformer Originally found in early telephone systems, audio transformers help isolate potential interference and send one signal through multiple electrical circuits.

Modern telephone systems still use audio transformers, but they are also found in audio systems where they transmit analog signals between systems. Because these transformers can serve multiple functions, such as preventing interference, splitting a signal, or combining signals, they are found in numerous applications. Amplifiers, loudspeakers, and microphones all depend on audio transformers in order to properly perform. A transformer has a primary coil of 100 turns and a secondary coil of 300 turns. What will be the voltage out of the secondary coil if we apply 20 V to the primary?

Power factor The power factor of an AC electrical power system is defined as the ratio of the real power flowing to the load to the apparent power in the circuit,[1][2] and is a dimensionless number between 0 and 1. Real power is the capacity of the circuit for performing work in a particular time. Apparent power is the product of the current and voltage of the circuit. Due to energy stored in the load and returned to the source, or due to a non-linear load that distorts the wave shape of the current drawn from the source, the apparent power will be greater than the real power.

In an electric power system, a load with a low power factor draws more current than a load with a high power factor for the same amount of useful power transferred. The higher currents increase the energy lost in the distribution system, and require larger wires and other equipment. Because of the costs of larger equipment and wasted energy, electrical utilities will usually charge a higher cost to industrial or commercial customers where there is a low power factor.

Linear loads with low power factor (such as induction motors) can be corrected with a passive network of capacitors or inductors. Non-linear loads, such as rectifiers, distort the current drawn from the system. In such cases, active or passive power factor correction may be used to counteract the distortion and raise the power factor. The devices for correction of the power factor may be at a central substation, spread out over a distribution system, or built into power-consuming equipment Power factor correction of linear loads

A high power factor is generally desirable in a transmission system to reduce transmission losses and improve voltage regulation at the load. It is often desirable to adjust the power factor of a system to near 1. 0. When reactive elements supply or absorb reactive power near the load, the apparent power is reduced. Power factor correction may be applied by an electric power transmission utility to improve the stability and efficiency of the transmission network.

Individual electrical customers who are charged by their utility for low power factor may install correction equipment to reduce those costs. Power factor correction brings the power factor of an AC power circuit closer to 1 by supplying reactive power of opposite sign, adding capacitors or inductors that act to cancel the inductive or capacitive effects of the load, respectively. For example, the inductive effect of motor loads may be offset by locally connected capacitors. If a load had a capacitive value, inductors (also known as reactors in this context) are connected to correct the power factor.

In the electricity industry, inductors are said to consume reactive power and capacitors are said to supply it, even though the energy is just moving back and forth on each AC cycle ————————————————- Measuring the power factor The power factor in a single-phase circuit (or balanced three-phase circuit) can be measured with the wattmeter-ammeter-voltmeter method, where the power in watts is divided by the product of measured voltage and current. The power factor of a balanced polyphase circuit is the same as that of any phase. The power factor of an unbalanced polyphase circuit is not uniquely defined.
