My Dream House- An Essay

I always imagine how my future house will be. A home is a place surrounded by the people one loves. A house is not made beautiful by its furniture or decor, but by the people that live inside it. My dream house should be a house that I can share with my family when I grow old. I always dream of a wooden house in the hilly areas. My dream house should be the one facing a small river. Through the windows, I could see the sun setting and disappearing into the mountains. My dream house would have a small garden where I will grow my own vegetables and fruits.

The house that I fancy would be considerably big with four rooms and a spacious common area. My dream house should be comfortable for my parents, grandparents and siblings. The house should be equipped with all the modern amenities. It should have a big TV with a home theatre system and a Playstation attached to it. The walls of the house will have light colours that will make it appear bright. There will be sufficient light bulbs and lamps in every room. I also dream of a chandelier in the guest room and a big sofa where everyone will sit and enjoy watching TV together. My grandparents love reading. I wish that my dream house will have a reading space with lots of books.

I have a 3-year old pet dog called Tiger. I also want to have a small yet cosy space in my house for Tiger where he can sleep and relax when he grows old. The house will have beautiful interiors and will have all the facilities like a modern kitchen, three bathrooms, a staircase leading to the terrace, ACs, etc. My dream home should be the one where we all can live happily and comfortably.

My House Essay 250 Words

A home serves as a sanctuary from the daily grind, providing solace and security. I reside in a charming abode nestled within a bustling urban neighborhood. This location boasts convenient proximity to a bus stop, educational institutions, shops, and more. My home is my haven, a place where I feel at ease and self-assured, and one where I yearn to spend most of my time.

Inside, there are three spacious bedrooms, a welcoming dining area, a well-equipped kitchen, and well-maintained bathrooms. In the front yard, we’ve cultivated a delightful garden with colorful flowers, while the backyard is dedicated to growing our own vegetables. Abundant natural light permeates the house, enhancing its inviting ambiance.

Constructed from a combination of sturdy materials like bricks, wood, tiles, and marble, my home exudes a timeless charm. The marble flooring lends an air of elegance throughout. The bedrooms are generously proportioned, well-ventilated, and flooded with natural light. Our bathrooms are commodious and feature modern showers, while our dining area is tastefully adorned.

The open kitchen allows us to savor the view of our backyard while preparing meals. Notably, our windows, constructed from rich brown wood, are broad and open wide during sunny days. The window in our dining room particularly captivates me, as it overlooks a street lined with majestic, ancient oak trees.

Our neighborhood is graced with friendly and considerate neighbors who readily extend their kindness and support. While my house is undeniably beautiful, it is the presence of my family that truly infuses it with warmth and charm. I hold a deep affection for my cherished home.

My House Essay 300 Words

A home holds a special place in our hearts, for it’s where we truly live and thrive. It’s a fundamental need for all of us, and we design our homes to suit our unique needs, using materials like wood, cement, iron, mortar, and bricks.

Speaking of my home, I consider myself truly blessed to reside in the serene Adarsh colony of Gorakhpur. Ours is a modest abode, as we belong to a middle-class family. But within these walls, our family thrives, comprising my dear father, caring mother, my three beloved sisters, and our ever-smiling grandmother.

Inside, our home offers us two bedrooms, a spacious veranda, a well-equipped kitchen, a cozy living room, a convenient bathroom, and a charming little garden outside, which also doubles as a garage. My father takes it upon himself to ensure our home gets a fresh coat of paint and regular maintenance every year. Right in front of our house, there’s an empty plot adorned with various trees and plants, enhancing the beauty of our surroundings.

The three of us sisters share one room, painted in our favorite shade of blue, a space we utilize for our studies. We take pride in keeping our room spotlessly clean. My mother, a stickler for cleanliness, extends her touch of orderliness to the entirety of our home, both inside and out.

Though we might be a small family, our home radiates with happiness. It’s a haven that envelops me in a feeling of security and comfort, a place where my fondest childhood memories were crafted. During festivals and special occasions, our home undergoes a magical transformation as we adorn it with decorations, making it even more enchanting.

In Conclusion

My home is my sanctuary, the ultimate place for relaxation and contentment. The very mention of it fills my heart with warmth and affection. It’s a dwelling brimming with positivity and blessings, all thanks to the loving souls that make up my wonderful family, who transform it into a beautiful abode.

My House Essay 500 Words

A home is a special place that provides comfort to all who reside in it. This is because a home is brimming with love and vitality. Just like anyone fortunate, I too have a home and a caring family. In this essay about my home, I will describe its characteristics and share its significance in my life.

A Peaceful Place I Call Home

Nestled within the heart of the city lies my beloved home. It’s not overly spacious, nor is it too petite; rather, it’s just the right size for my family and me. Our household consists of my father, mother, sister, and grandparents. What makes our dwelling particularly special is its vintage character, as it’s been passed down through generations.

Despite its age, our home stands resilient and strong. It boasts six rooms, each with a unique touch that reflects the individuality of its occupant. For instance, my elder sister, a passionate music enthusiast, has adorned her walls with posters featuring her favorite musicians, including BTS and RM.

The centerpiece of our home is the spacious living room, boasting lofty ceilings. Here, we still cherish the vintage sofa set that my grandmother received as a wedding gift. Adjoining it, you’ll find antique relics like an old television and radio, both of which my grandmother continues to use to this day.

My personal sanctuary lies just next door – my bedroom. It’s my most cherished space, housing all the things I hold dear. Notably, my pet guinea pig resides in a cozy cage here. Additionally, our storage room is a repository of items we no longer employ but can’t quite bring ourselves to part with.

Stepping outside, our front lawn boasts a charming garden. It’s here that my mother tends to her kitchen garden, a labor of love where she cultivates various seeds, introducing new varieties each month to enhance our culinary experiences.

Yet, the fondest memories I hold dear are tethered to our terrace. This spacious outdoor haven is adorned with an array of flourishing plants. It’s witnessed countless joyous family moments and serves as a playground when my cousins come to visit. As a result, every nook and cranny of my home carries a special place in my heart.

In the course of life, I’ve come to a profound realization – not everyone enjoys the same kind of home as I do. Some have considerably less, and sadly, some have no home at all. This awareness has deepened my sense of gratitude and appreciation for the place I fondly call home. I understand that not everyone is fortunate enough to have a good home and a loving family, and for this, I feel truly blessed. Appreciation Towards My Home The reason I hold my home in such high regard is that, as I journey through life, I know that I will look back on the cherished memories I’ve created here with warmth and nostalgia. The simple act of reminiscing about those moments will be all the more special due to the consistent sense of safety and security that my home has always provided. It genuinely is an ideal place to live.

In conclusion

My home occupies a unique and cherished place in my heart because it instills in me a profound sense of belonging, regardless of the circumstances. It aids me in comprehending my role in the world and my connection to the vast universe. For this reason, I am profoundly thankful to have a place that I can wholeheartedly call my own.

Dream House Essay in English

Home , the place one spends more time in their life and shares special moments with family. Where one expects to live permanently carefree, feel protected under the roof of their house. Here are some sample essays on dream house.

100 Words Essay On Dream House

I'm always imagining how my future home will look. A home is a place where one is surrounded by the people they care about. The people who live in a house make it beautiful, not the furniture or decor. My ideal home would be one that I could share with my family after I come back from work.

I've always wanted a hillside wooden house. My ideal home would be one that overlooks a small river. I could see the sun setting and disappearing into the mountains through the windows. My ideal home would include a small garden in which I could grow my own vegetables and fruits.

200 Words Essay On Dream House

Dream House Essay in English

One day I want to have a home that makes me feel well and where I can be safe and happy with my family. I want to live in a big white house with blue shutters. My room will be overlooking the river so that I can paint the scenery. I want a blue coloured porch wrapped around the house where I can drink tea and watch the sunrise and sunset everyday.

My Ideal Home

My ideal home would be welcoming to my parents, grandparents, and siblings. My ideal home is one in which all of us can live happily and comfortably. The house I envision would be quite large, with four bedrooms and a large common area. The house should be outfitted with all modern conveniences. It should have a large TV, a home theatre system, and a Playstation.

The walls of the house will be painted in light colours to make it appear bright. Every room will have enough light bulbs and lamps. I also want a chandelier in the common room and a large sofa where everyone can sit and watch TV together. My grandparents are avid readers. My ideal home would have a library with a large number of books.

500 Words Essay On Dream House

The house is where we stay with our loved ones. A good house is one that makes the person feel at ease. It is a place where we can seek shelter from rain, heat, and storms, among other things. Everyone has their own preferences for the type of home they prefer to live in.

Location Of My Dream House

I want to live in the mountains of Switzerland. I want to live in a picturesque village named Grindewald where Alps mountain is located. I want to live in a small community where everyone knows each other, and people are very kind and helpful.

I want to raise cows on the hillsides. Every morning, I want to wake up to the melodious tinkle of a cowbell around my ears. When I walk out of my room, I want to stand on the lawn of the backyard and breathe in the fresh air. I want a warm and cosy house of comfort and peace.

The beautiful glacier can be seen from my terris's window. Why do I want this type of house? Because I enjoy seeing the sunrise and sunset, as well as the people working at their workplace. The breeze from the trees planted by the people of the village behind my dream house will be refreshing every day. It would be fantastic. I chose to build my home near the village and river so that I can feel refreshed and grateful to be surrounded by nature. In my ideal home, I also want to plant my own fruits and vegetables.

How My Dream House Would Look

First and foremost, my house would be located in the woods, away from everyone else. I'd also live in a contemporary-looking log cabin. Living in a log cabin has always been a dream of mine. I also want to live in a contemporary home, so combining the two would be ideal for me.

My dream home will be large and spacious. I want my house to be built on a mountain with as many green materials as possible to help protect the environment. I also want my house to be located away from the hustle and bustle of a big city, but not too far from civilization. This house style, which I believe suits my personality, is more antique and sophisticated, with a touch of simplicity and aesthetic. The house will have beautiful interiors and all of the amenities, such as a kitchen, three bathrooms, a staircase leading to the terrace, and a bonfire place.

My backyard would be open and have a view of the mountain and valleys. There would be a bonfire in the centre surrounded by chairs, and a barbeque place. I want a swimming pool and a jacuzzi in my backyard.

My room would be the biggest one out of the 5 rooms I want in my home. It would have black coloured walls and blue curtains. There would be a small bed for my dog in the corner of my room. I want to have a common room where everyone can sit and watch TV, spend some quality time with the family and have a huge wooden dining table in the corner of the room.

Describe your Ideal Home

Posted by David S. Wills | Dec 2, 2022 | IELTS Tips , Speaking | 1

Describe your Ideal Home

In the IELTS speaking test, you are sometimes asked to describe a building. I have written about that before several times. However, today we’re going to look at something a little trickier. This is about a building that may not even exist! You are going to describe your ideal home .

In this article, I’ll tell you how to analyse the cue card, pick the right language, and then give a great answer that could help you to get an excellent IELTS score.

Cue Card: Describe your Ideal Home

Here is the cue card that we will examine today:

Describe your ideal home or place to live. You should say: where it would be how big it would be and what it would contain what features it might include and explain why you think this would be your ideal home or place to live in.

The most important thing about this cue card is the word “ideal.” You would really need to understand this in order to answer it properly.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary , “ideal” means:

  • perfect, or the best possible

In other words, you are describing a home that you imagine living in one day . It may not even exist right now. It’s the best possible home for you, on a personal level, according to what you can imagine.

You should also aim to discuss the three bullet points and the idea expressed in the final line. You do not need to talk about them in order and don’t worry if you run out of time before you cover them all.

How to Describe your Ideal Home

After you have read the cue card, you should think immediately of a home to describe. It could be a house that you have seen somewhere or one that you just imagine. It’s best to get a concrete idea in your head, though, so that your description is coherent.

You can find lots of examples of dream homes on the internet. You can see various interesting house designs on Twitter, Pinterest, and Reddit, as well as numerous other places. These can give you inspiration.

Of course, it can be hard to describe architecture, even in your native language. Recently, my brother told me that his house had a mezzanine and I had to look it up on Google. I’d never heard the word before!

Still, you really only need to say what is important to you, so just think of features that your house might have. Try to be descriptive.

  • A swimming pool
  • Large windows
  • An office with big bookshelves
  • A big garden
  • Views of the sea or mountains
  • Decking for barbeques
  • A big veranda
  • An open living room area
  • A huge kitchen

house vocabulary for ielts

These are just some ideas that spring to mind. Obviously, everyone will have different preferences. The important thing is to present your own ideas in the right words.

Here are some related resources:

  • A guide to architecture vocabulary
  • General advice for talking about buildings
  • How to describe a modern building

More House Vocabulary

Now we have seen some useful vocabulary for describing houses, let’s see the names of different types of houses:

write an essay on my ideal house

There are many types of houses to know. For example:

  • semi-detached
  • apartment / flat
  • mobile home

You don’t need to know all of these but it is worth learning ones that you might want to talk about. For example, maybe you live in a semi-detached house but used to live in a cottage and want to live in a mansion … It would be useful to know these three words.

Planning your Answer

Once you know approximately what you want to say, you can make a few notes to help you. These can be a few key words that will remind you of important points. Some people use this for vocabulary and others use it for structure. It’s really a personal choice.

I might write:

  • Infinity pool
  • Counter space

Do these notes mean much to you? Probably not. However, that’s ok because your notes only have to make sense to you.

Sample Band 9 Answer

My ideal home would be located near the seaside. In fact, it would be right on the beach, so I could sit and watch the waves or go for a swim any time that I wanted. It would be close enough that I could hear the sea at night from my bedroom window.

The house itself would be quite large. I would want a big, open living room that looks out on the sea, as well as a main bedroom on the second floor with a similar view. I would need an office with a built-in library, and a gym alongside several spare bedrooms. The kitchen is important because I really like to cook, so I would want a large, modern kitchen with plenty of counter space for preparing food.

I would want a large terrace for sitting out on sunny days or at night, and ideally it would have enough space to give a view of the sky on starry evenings. There should be a swimming pool as well. In particular, I would like an infinity pool because these look really nice.

Although I like the aesthetic of old buildings, I think this one would be quite new because of my requirements. However, the right designer could make it beautiful and functional. Altogether, this home would give me everything I need to have a comfortable life in a relaxing place.

Listen to my answer in this video:

Notes on the Answer

You can see that I have given a thorough answer that is very visual in its description. Although there isn’t much in the way of specialist vocabulary, it is very topic-specific. That means all my language relates to the idea of homes. This is really important for IELTS success.

Some good vocabulary from this answer includes:

  • right on the beach
  • a big, open living room
  • a built-in library
  • a large, modern kitchen
  • plenty of counter space
  • I like the aesthetic of old buildings

Note that I have used a lot of adjectives here to make it really descriptive. Because of the topic (an ideal house), you have a lot of freedom to use your imagination. That can really help you if you have a good vocabulary.

Essay on My House for Students and Children

500+ words essay on my house.

Essay on My House:  The world consists of all types of people. Some are fortunate enough to have amenities while some aren’t. Especially in a country like India, where the majority of the population lives below the poverty line . To own a house here is no less than a luxury, one which I thankfully have. I am blessed to be protected by four walls and a roof.

Essay on My house

It is my parent’s hard work that has given us this blessing. Many people in today’s world are always complaining about the things they don’t have. The person who has a house wants a bungalow. The one who owns a bungalow wants a palace. The one living in a palace wants an island. This never-ending cycle goes on. However, if we look at the people below us rather than those who are above us, we will be happier.

An Underrated Blessing

Having a house is an underrated blessing. If you have not realized it yet, you can go and ask any person who doesn’t have a house. Only then will you realize what a great blessing it is to have a house. Houses do not necessarily have to be luxuriously filled with the latest amenities. A house is complete if you have a roof over your head.

Moreover, if you have your loved ones around, then there can be no greater blessing. You must realize the importance of your house before it gets too late. Even I never knew how precious my house was up until one incident that changed my outlook.

We had house help growing up. The maid who used to work for us always came early in the morning and would leave in the evening. Even when my mother asked her to leave early as she completed the work on time, she never did that. On the other hand, she used to do extra work. Later we found out that she never really had a house. It was just a hut which had one chair and one folding. And that she liked spending time most of the time at our house because she had access to all basic facilities like electricity and clean water.

This incident made me realize how I took my house for granted. It is truly an underrated blessing which is overlooked by others. We must value our homes before it gets too late.

I live in my ancestral home with my grandparents, parents, and siblings. My grandfather built this house with his hard work. It has four rooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms, and a patio. My house is at least fifty years old.

I admire the beauty of my house. The vintage vibes make it even more beautiful. My grandparents have a small garden in the patio which adds greenery to my house. Moreover, it also has two trees. One is a pomegranate tree and the other is a Henna tree. They provide us with shade and sweet fruits.

My house has very high ceilings as it was made many years back. It has vintage switchboards which give it a very unique look. My house is situated in the middle of four roads. It is not joined to any other house. My house has four entrances from each side.

Whenever my friends come over to my house, they click a lot of pictures. Even my relatives love the interior of the house which is a mix of modern and vintage architecture. My house is colored in brown and beige color and it stands out in our locality.

196 Home Essay Topic Ideas & Examples

🌎 writing an outstanding home essay, 👍 good essay topics on home, 🎓 simple & easy home essay titles, ✅ good research topics about home, ✍️ home essay topics for college, 📝 interesting topics to write about home.

You may be required to write a home essay in school or in a variety of higher education programs, particularly those in social sciences.

You may be required to describe your hometown and how it affected your childhood and adolescence. Alternately, the essay may cover your dream house and what you would like to see in it.

Such essays generally appreciate originality and cleverness, and you should make them interesting and engaging. However, you should not go overboard with additions and expressions, as some of them may be excessive or unnecessary.

This article will help you understand what you should and should not do when writing a home essay of either variety. When discussing the topic of your hometown, you should consider a variety of aspects, as this sort of essay is not solely about yourself.

Your family biography would be a good choice among various home essay topics to provide background to your childhood and describe your upbringing.

Prominent memories would also be helpful, as your perception of your childhood tends to be the primary focus of this variety of essay. As such, you should not discuss factors that you learned about later on unless they are directly relevant to the story.

You should also try to avoid letting such knowledge twist what you remember of the circumstances. You may note that you later learned that the reality was different from what you remember as a child, but you should always mention the latter.

When discussing your ideas of a perfect house, you will want to cover a variety of aspects. The physical parameters, such as location, size, design, color scheme, and many other options you have to consider when furnishing your home are important topics.

However, the essay will want you to provide a more complete picture, including your idea of your future family and other inhabitants.

Examples of what you can use include what pets you would like to have, possibly with details such as breed and gender, and other home essay titles.

However, you should generally not reveal too many private details and be non-specific about your family. The essay is primarily about yourself, and the family should be described in basic details such as the number of children.

Here are some additional tips for your writing process:

  • When you are writing an essay about your home in school, you will usually want to concentrate on its current state. Discuss your family and possibly contemplate how your neighborhood changed throughout your upbringing.
  • Try to avoid overly concentrating on any one aspect of your dream house at the expense of others. The purpose of the essay is to create a comprehensive picture of your ideal. As such, you want to talk about many different things that will come to your head.
  • The essay is personal and not scholarly, and so you do not have to write in a formal academic style. You are free to separate it by topics and use section titles if you wish, provided the paper is long enough. However, you should still avoid colloquialisms and other non-literary language.
  • Many people will have similar ideas of their ideal living conditions, ones close to the overall societal norm. It is not necessary for everyone to introduce outlandish ideas just to be different from the rest, as the small differences are more important.

Describe an ideal house

# describe an ideal house.

You should say:

  • where this place is
  • what it is like
  • when you want to live there
  • and explain why you think it is ideal for you

Sample Answer

I’m not interested in buying a home anytime soon, nor do I put a lot of emphasis on my home, but I’m going to tell you about my dream house, which I often dreamt of as a child. I used to imagine a log cabin style house tucked into (hidden in) the Alp mountain range. As I’ve always been a massive fan of snow and lakes, I’m confident that this would be an ideal location for me. If it weren’t in the Alps, I would want it in the Rocky Mountains or the Andes. All in all, it just has to be in a quiet area with breath-taking scenery. More specifically, I imagine a two-story house with all wooden floors and a red and black color scheme; I feel like this adds to the effect of the log cabin feel. I would like to have a large living room and dining room area with a fireplace inside. Moreover, I would like a large kitchen where I can cook for my family and entertain guests- perhaps with a large island area with stools around it. I would like to have four bedrooms, 2 for my children, 1 for my husband and 1 for a guest. In my bedroom, I’m dying to (really want) have our fireplace as well as a jacuzzi for bubble baths. I would hope that each room has its balcony with mountain views. I haven’t put any pressure on myself about when I should try to buy my property, but I would imagine sometime between age 30-35. I ideally see myself in this house with my husband and children, as there would be plenty of space for them to play, as well as go on mountain treks. I could imagine all of us bundled up (covered by blankets) by the fire after a day of hiking in the snow! I think this would be the ideal house for me, as I am a fan of quiet, secluded places surrounded by nature. For now, I’m happy living in the city, but I imagine I would like to settle down (establish one’s self) in a quieter place one day. Moreover, I know that I like to entertain, so I want to have ample space to do so- not to mention in a beautiful place. In conclusion, I desire this mountain life with my family by my side!

Long Essay On My Dream House 500 Words In English

If I were to choose and describe my dream house, I would choose a house according to my personality. It helps people to get an impression about you, and this leaves a long-lasting effect on others.

I would love a house in Frankton, Indiana. There are so many reasons why I love this area. It quiet, and there are not many people around this locality. Everything is within walking distance, and that is where I have grown up. These are some of the reasons why I would love to stay in this rural community.

I love gardening, and having a yard full of trees and plants has been my dream. Freshly bloomed flowers cast a magic spell on me, and I am relaxed when I see it. I would like to have a little treehouse for my kids to play in.

For my living room, I would like a cozy setup. The living room would have a plasma screen television paired with a black leather couch, a white rug, and two recliners. I would love a beautiful wooden finished dark floor—a coffee table, preferably black colour, with white coasters. As I am a plant fanatic, I love succulents and indoor plants. A mini cactus sitting directly in the middle of the table.

I would love to imagine a little hallway and a little bit of a staircase that would lead to the kitchen and dining room. I love ceramic wares, and I want the utensils to be aesthetic. A beautiful granite island top table in the kitchen with some small plants in ceramic bowls would be the perfect set up.

I look to cook, and I would love to invite my full family for dinner, and we would sit around this long skinny table and have a laugh while enjoying the meal.

It was a childhood dream on mine to have a fully furnished basement that people would easily mistake for a bedroom—a movie screen, with a superb sound system. There must be space in the basement where my dogs would run around and play. A bunk bed would be beautiful for the kids to enjoy.

In my garage, I want to have enough room for my car and my two-wheeler. I would also like to do my laundry in the garage, as the garage offers the ideal space one needs to do their laundry.

Coming to the main rooms, I want a study, where my books for study, books for reading in my free time, CDs of my movie collection would be kept. There must be a cozy corner in that room, where there will be a small couch by the window, where I can relax and spend my own sweet time.

The bedroom will be sweet and, with a queen-size bed and a lot of pillows, I have no such specifications about it. Just an addition to my bedroom would be a tiny bed for my dogs.

All in all, I want a sober and peaceful house where I can turn into a home.

Short Essay On My Dream House 200 Words In English

I want to build a dream house with a garden where I can grow my fruits and vegetables.

I want a spacious living room with four other rooms which can be used as bedrooms and a study room. One bedroom will be there for my grandparents and the other one for my parents.

My bedroom must have a very comfortable bed where I can relax. It would also be nice to have a PlayStation in my room. My room should be brightly colored, and on the walls, my favorite cartoon characters should be drawn.

For the living room, there must be a giant television where we can watch movies together. I also wish to have a pet cat or a pet dog, so there must be an area for them in my dream house.

Overall, my dream house is a house where my family, along with my pets, and I can live happily.

Describe an ideal house/ Describe a perfect house you saw

You should say:

  • when and where you saw it;
  • what it looked like;
  • what special features it had;
  • and explain why you liked it.

Sample Answer 1

Sample audio.

Click on the audio to listen to the sample answer above. Pay attention to the intonation and pronunciation of the words.

So I have been living in a 4-storeyed house for the last twenty years. It seemed fine at first, but as time went by, I gradually realised that there are many things about this house that I don’t like. For example, the stair is so steep that I’m almost always out of breath when I reach my room on the third floor. I want to move somewhere else.

I have to say I prefer a high-rise flat to a house. This is mainly because the air there is fresher and there are fewer mosquitos, which are a terrible nuisance by the way. My ideal flat would be on the 20th floor or so, overlooking the whole neighbourhood. It would have a spacious living room, a fully-fitted kitchen, three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

The living room would need to be large enough to accommodate about 30 people, because I often invite friends over or throw small parties . I would like my sofa to be comfy and big enough to lie in and sleep. The walls have to be sound-proof as I can’t deal with noise; I must have a quiet environment to work or relax.

  • Steep: (of a slope) rising or falling at a sharp angle: Eg: The tent is set up on a steep mountain, where you can spot a breath-taking view.
  • Out of breath: gasping for air, typically after exercise.  Eg: After climbing the mountain, she was out of breath.
  • High-rise: tall modern building with many floors Eg: Rose lives in a high-rise apartment in the city.
  • Overlook:  to provide a view of,  especially from the above.  Eg: John’s house overlooks the valley.
  • Nuisance: someone or something that causes a problem for other people, an area, etc.   Eg: Sheela is such a nuisance that I hate her her company
  • Throw party: to host or hold a gathering.  Eg: John decided to throw a party to his friends.
  • Sound-proof: to prevent sound from coming into a room or building, or from being heard outside it  Eg: Rose was looking for a soundproof apartment.

Sample Answer 2

I would want my ideal house to be comfy and spacious, and it should be located in a not-so-urban area with a peaceful and quiet atmosphere.

Painted in yellow and white, the house would somehow look like a little palace for a royal family. The natural glare of the sun is a must for this house and must contain an effective window system for good ventilation. The home would be equipped with air-conditioning and modern appliances for convenience and comfort. Flowers and trees would be planted around it to decorate and make it look captivating.

My ideal house, full of natural light and surrounded by many exquisite gardens, would be the perfect place for me when I need an escape from my heavy workload in the city. I would be able to relish the fresh air, and living there would be the perfect way to relieve stress.

Having the opportunity to live in such a place would be a dream come true for me, feeling like a king in his castle, and I hope that one day I can build a place like this to live in.

Where Will the Place Be?

What Would the Place Look Like?

When Would You Want to Live There?

Why Will the Place Be Ideal for You?

Introduction

My ideal home or dream house currently resides in a bustling city, and I often yearn for a different environment. Taking the chance to describe my ideal home or dream house, I would like it to be located at more elevation near the hills and surrounded by more flowering plants.

I envision my dream home nestled in a serene village in Kullu. It won't be extravagant, just a cozy space perfect for my family's needs. The congestion and pollution of city life have become overwhelming, prompting this desire for a peaceful retreat.

Picture a charming bungalow with a quaint garden at the back. Gardening is a passion of mine, and I plan to grow plants like tomatoes, chilies, lemons, guavas, mangoes, and colorful flowers. A furry companion, perhaps a dog, will relish the vast garden space, adding to the home's liveliness.

Initially, I'll visit periodically to oversee the property's development as my financial situation improves. Ultimately, I aspire to settle there permanently, immersing myself in the serene surroundings and cleaner air.

City life's constant hustle and stress take a toll on one's well-being. Escaping to a tranquil hillside abode promises peace and rejuvenation. Moreover, it lessens the health hazards associated with urban pollution. This setting embodies my ideal lifestyle, offering quality time with family amidst nature's beauty.

The first step in starting work is to aspire for success because aspirations are vital for life to be exciting and productive. To summarize, this is my ideal house, and I am confident that I will make it a reality with God's grace, hard work, and patience.

The interior is a blend of bohemian elegance and cozy comfort. A plush sofa in rich jewel tones is a welcoming focal point against textured wallpaper. The old trunk-turned coffee table adds a playful touch to the room.

Adjacent to the living area, vintage chairs surround a wooden table with a mosaic of vibrant tiles. Charm lights above warmly glow over the dining space, perfect for gatherings.

Mary's love for rustic charm is evident in the kitchen, featuring open shelving displaying artisanal ceramics and unique culinary tools. Potted herbs on the countertops contribute to a fresh and natural ambiance.

What You Like or Dislike About This Person’s House/Apartment?

While I appreciate Mary's creative approach to decorating her apartment, the abundance of artwork and vibrant colors can sometimes feel overwhelming. Finding a visual focal point is challenging due to the numerous elements. However, I understand that Mary's intentional choices reflect her artistic expression and passion.

In conclusion, Mary's apartment is a beautiful reflection of her artistic flair and vibrant energy. Although not everyone may prefer the style, it reflects Mary's personality and creativity in a captivating manner.

The idea of having a dream house someday fills me with excitement. It will be one place that will be solely mine– a place I can rest, unwind and call my own.

When I think of where this dream house would be situated, I can only envision the cold and peaceful mountains. I have been to hills and mountains during many treks. It's one place that offers me the most joy. The happiness of walking on the side of the curvy, narrow roads and stopping at a small food stall to have a hot cup of tea and noodles makes me feel alive. Life feels simpler there.

My dream house would ideally be small. I don't have the desire to live in a gigantic mansion with all the worldly and materialistic amenities. Although it would be small, it would have hundreds of plants– both inside and outside. My kitchen will be my happy place, where I will always keep everything stocked. The balcony will have a little hammock where I could read a book and get lost in the fictional world.

I would love to have this dream house as soon as possible, maybe in the next year or two. It's only about attaining financial stability and a job I love, and then I can move to my house in the mountains!

The day I move would perhaps be the happiest day of my life. This house will be perfect for me because I have thought of every aspect of it, in incredible detail, over and over. It'll be a house made of love and tranquillity, with a house cat running around to give me company!

In conclusion, my dream house, a harmonious blend of comfort, aesthetic appeal, and functionality, represents more than just a physical structure; it's a sanctuary that echoes my personality, values, and aspirations. Envisioned as a place of tranquility, inspiration, and warmth, it serves as a haven where memories are made and cherished.

From its eco-friendly design to the cozy, inviting spaces, each element of this house contributes to an atmosphere of peace and happiness. In describing my dream house for this IELTS Cue Card, I not only share a personal vision but also articulate a future aspiration, showcasing my ability to communicate complex ideas and emotions effectively in English.

This dream house symbolizes the culmination of my goals and efforts, a place where I can thrive, grow, and find solace.

IELTS IDIOMS GUIDE

Describe Your Dream House: IELTS Cue Card

Ever since I was young, I always thought that growing up would be so exciting. For one, it would involve having a house of my own, my dream house. A place that is just mine, where I can host the people I love and always be authentically myself.

My dream house will be a beach house. So, every morning, I would first pull the curtains away from the life-size windows and watch the waves hitting the shore. I imagine the noise of crashing waves to be rhythmic and peaceful. Moreover, the idea of sitting on the porch while the salty winds rush through the tangles of my hair sounds beautiful to me.

The house would ideally be big enough for me, my parents and my friends if they ever want to stay. I want to be the person whose house is always open for loved ones to stay over. It would have an all-blue theme to match the seaside atmosphere. I also envision a lot of artwork hanging on the walls of my house.

I think no other place would come close to being perfect for me than this one. I am a water baby, and I love the feeling of sand under my feet. Moreover, I will personalize this space to match my taste and comfort. I will also add a library room.

If it were up to me, I would want to buy my dream house today. That said, it's not financially possible, so I will strive to work hard and gain stability in my life to have it one day.

The examiner may ask a few IELTS speaking follow-up sample questions and answers during the following section of the speech. The questions are based on the cue card topics from Part 2 of the IELTS test.

What sets modern homes apart from older homes in India?

Older homes in India have a courtyard or veranda, an open space in the middle without a roof. These homes are designed to house extended families and are usually sprawling with ample land around them.

On the other hand, modern houses are made for nuclear families, consisting of parents and two children. Despite the smaller size, modern homes are fitted with the latest amenities and smart home technologies.

What distinguishes houses from apartments?

A house is an independent structure intended for the sole use of the owner and their family. Conversely, an apartment is part of a larger building divided into multiple units, accommodating various families. Houses offer more space and often include private parking areas, while apartments have limited space, shared parking facilities, and common hallways.

What do you think people's dream homes will look like in the future?

Technology is transforming households throughout the world. Future houses are anticipated to be modern, with cutting-edge furniture and facilities.

Future dream homes will be outfitted with several technologies, such as Smart heaters and lights. Furthermore, intelligent robots powered by artificial intelligence will do the majority of household tasks.

Furthermore, I believe that future homes and apartments will be more environmentally conscious since they can store energy and generate it on demand.

Now that we've understood about my dream house speaking   cue card task, it's time to practice and read more of them.

The IELTS speaking exam is significantly more than simply delivering a speech; it is also about accurately pronouncing the speech and using lexical resources. It will increase the examiner's interest in the conversation and improve the final score.

What do follow-up questions encompass?

After completing your discussion on the cue card topic, the examiner will give brief and relevant questions for you to respond to. These are termed "follow-up" questions. They differ from Part 3 questions, which typically have a broader scope and cover more extensive topics.

Are there instances of IELTS cue cards repeating?

While IELTS Cue Card topics can repeat, preparing for several topics that may appear in your exam is essential. Relying solely on preparing for a few specific topics with the assumption that they will repeat is not advisable.

I had always desired to reside in a Hawaiian palace. This residence would be placed in a tranquil area, surrounded by verdant gardens and offering a breathtaking view of the ocean. The enormous living room of the house would be furnished with comfy sofas and chairs and adorned with a combination of classic and contemporary elements.

The kitchen of the house will be completely equipped with the newest equipment, making it simple to prepare for and entertain visitors. The dining space would be attractively constructed, with a wide table capable of accommodating a large family or group of guests. I would also appreciate having a home theater to watch movies with my loved ones. The bedrooms will be big and equipped with huge windows framing a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Each room would have a private bathroom with contemporary amenities such as a Jacuzzi and rainfall showerhead. On sweltering summer days, I could rest and unwind in the mansion’s stunning swimming pool.

In sum, my perfect home would be a mansion in Hawaii, complete with cutting-edge conveniences, breathtaking vistas, and a quiet setting. That seems like the ideal spot to kick back with my loved ones and take it easy.

IELTS CUE CARD TOPIC

Describe Your Idea of a Perfect Home or Dream House where You Want to Live

You should say:

Where this place would be? What it would look like? When you would like to live there? Explain why it is ideal to you?

NOTE  –  The examiner gives you one minute to plan your answer ,  and to help you prepare for the topic, the examiner provides you with a pencil and a notepad. You’ll have to answer the questions given on the topic for one-to-two minutes .

Introduction

Like everyone, I also have a clear idea of what my dream house would be like.

Where would this place be?

It would be far away from the city in the countryside area.

What would it look like?

It would look like a stately house will state of the art infrastructure. The house would have modern facilities like a gym and a swimming pool, but it would also be close to nature because I will build it in the middle of a farmhouse. The electricity generation will happen through solar panels, and a library will be inside to pamper my appetite for reading books.

Moreover, the house’s outside walls will have pictures of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad and sports stars like Sachin Tendulkar and M S Dhoni.

When would you like to live there?

I am a student, and constructing such a house requires a boatload of money. Therefore, I have given myself six years. After finishing my studies, I will work with determination, dedication, and discipline to arrange funds for my startup. And once my venture becomes successful, I will have sufficient money to construct my dream home .

Explain why it is ideal for you.

It is ideal for me because, since childhood, I have dreamed of living an opulent lifestyle in the countryside instead of a city. However, I am an urban dweller, and traffic congestion and air pollution are pressing problems for me. By shifting to the countryside, I will maintain good physical health by avoiding pollution because, in villages, you get clean and pristine air.

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card “ Describe Your Idea of a Perfect Home or Dream House where You Want to Live ”.

1. Are there many types of houses in your country? What are they?

My nation has different types of houses, including flats, villas, duplexes, and mansions. As my county accommodates people from all walks of life, housing choice thrives primarily on a person’s financial status and requirements.

2. Are any traditional houses still famous in your country? Can you describe them?

In the hills, houses built in the conventional style of slopping roofs are still favoured to take care of excessive rain and snowfall.
