Seasons of the Year in the United States

The four seasons of the year in the United States —spring, summer, fall, and winter—are what determine the weather, the ecosystem, and the hours of daylight throughout the year.

The current season in the United States is Spring

A composite image of the countryside divided into the four seasons by zig zagging white lines

When does each season start in 2024?

In 2024, these are the astronomical dates and times for the start of each season:

  • Spring:  Starts on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:06 PM, and ends on June 20 at 4:51 PM.
  • Summer:  Starts on Thursday, June 20 at 4:51 PM, and ends on September 22 at 8:44 AM.
  • Fall:  Starts on Sunday, September 22 at 8:44 AM, and ends on Saturday, December 21 at 4:21 AM.
  • Winter: Begins on Saturday, December 21, 4:21 AM and ends on March 20, 2025, 5:01 am

The times correspond to the Eastern Time (ET) time zone and will vary in different states.

While the dates of the seasons may vary slightly, this is only ever for a maximum of 2 days. The earliest Spring can ever be is the 19th of March, but this is very rare. It was March 19 in 2020, but before that, you have to go all the way back to 1896 to find another example.

Despite the variance being small it can lead to confusion at times when discussing the seasons with people, and for this reason, many prefer to reference the meteorological seasons:

Months of each season

The meteorological seasons  comprise the entirety of specific months, these are:

  • Spring months : March, April, May
  • Summer months : June, July, August
  • Fall months : September, October, November
  • Winter months : December, January, February

The United States is located in the Northern Hemisphere, and so on average, the months from spring through to summer have hotter temperatures, while the weather gets colder during fall and winter.

America is however a vast country with a few different regions, so there are several unique climatic zones. States such as California, Florida, Arizona, and Texas are usually warm all year round. On the other hand, Alaska is unsurprisingly the coldest state, where Juneau has average highs of 48 °F (8.89 °C) and lows of 36 °F (2.22 °C). Most other places such as New York, New England, Washington, and the Midwest have more distinct seasonal changes throughout the year.

Spring starts on March 20 or 21 and lasts until June 20 or 21 .

The first day of spring occurs on the spring equinox, which marks the astronomical beginning of spring. Meteorologically, spring begins on March 1st.

This season comes after winter and before summer, and is characterized by the warming temperatures and the days getting longer. It is during spring that plants start blossoming for the summer.

Learn more about  Spring Equinox (Start of Spring) .

Summer lasts from June 20 or 21 until September 22 or 23 , which places it between spring and fall.

This is the warmest of the months, where temperatures soar, and where we can enjoy more hours of daylight, as the days are longer than the evenings. In the United States, some regions have warm, humid weather, while in other areas the days are very hot and arid.

The first day of summer is marked by the summer solstice , which corresponds to the astronomical beginning of summer.

Fall begins on September 22 or 23 and ends on December 21 or 22 .

During this season, temperatures start dropping, and the nights start getting longer again. Also known as autumn, in the United States, fall gets its name because of the leaves on the trees that begin changing colors and falling.

In some states, the landscape totally changes during fall, with greenery being replaced by bright reds and oranges.

Learn more about  Autumnal Equinox (Start of Fall) .

Winter starts on December 21 or 22, and lasts through to March 20 or 21 , falling right between fall and spring.

In winter the weather gets colder, with some regions getting temperatures as low as 3 °F (-16.11 °C), and the nights become longer than the days. Many of the Northern states get snow throughout the season.

The official beginning of winter falls on the winter solstice .

The Seasons of the Year Explained

There is an idea that summer is hotter than the other seasons because it happens when the Earth is closer to the sun, and that when the Earth is furthest from the sun, that's when winter occurs. This is false!

What controls the seasons is the Earth's axis, an imaginary pole that crosses the planet from top to bottom, on which the Earth spins, making one complete spin each day.

This axis is tilted, and when the Earth revolves in its orbit around the Sun throughout the year, different parts of the planet receive the Sun's direct sunlight. This means that when the North Pole is tilted towards the Sun, it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Meanwhile, when it is tilted away from the Sun, that's when it doesn't get as much light and heat, which causes winter and fall. Other seasonal articles you may find interesting:

2024 Memorial Tournament purse, prize money: Payouts for golfers, winner's share out of $20 million pool

Another significant paycheck is on the line this week as the memorial takes place at muirfield village.

memorial-tournament-trophy-g.jpg

The PGA Tour's seventh signature event of the season enters the weekend as the 2024 Memorial Tournament takes center stage at Muirfield Village. While the Memorial marks one of the last big-money tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule, it also kicks off a highly lucrative three-week stretch in professional golf.

A combined $60 million will be up for grabs between the Memorial, the U.S. Open and Travelers Championship -- two signature events surrounding the third major of the season. Muirfield Village welcomed 73 players, and with the Memorial existing as a player invitational, the field has now been trimmed to the top 50 players (and those within 10 strokes of the lead) at the halfway point.

Scottie Scheffler is back in form holding a three-shot lead after 36 holes, though major competition like Viktor Hovland, Keegan Bradley, Ludvig Åberg, Tony Finau, Rory McIlroy and PGA champion Xander Schauffele are all within six strokes of the top of the leaderboard.

The top of the field is now vying for a $4 million winner's check, matching the sum paid out at the Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour calendar. If a player catches a heater over the next handful of tournaments, there is a chance he could clean up close to eight figures in winnings.

The ultimate winner will not be the only player to cash a nice check in Ohio, though. Those inside the top 11 will all clear $500,000, every player inside the top 21 will make more than $250,000 and those inside the top 50 will clear at least $52,000.

Let's take a look at the payout list for the 2024 Memorial Tournament.

Costco Plans to Stop Selling Books Year-Round

The decision, which will be implemented in January 2025, could significantly impact publishers.

  • Share full article

A shopper in Costco looks over stacks of books.

By Elizabeth A. Harris and Alexandra Alter

In a blow to publishers and authors, Costco plans to stop selling books regularly at stores around the United States, four publishing executives who had been informed of the warehouse retailer’s plans said on Wednesday.

Beginning in January 2025, the company will stop stocking books regularly, and will instead sell them only during the holiday shopping period, from September through December. During the rest of the year, some books may be sold at Costco stores from time to time, but not in a consistent manner, according to the executives, who spoke anonymously in order to discuss a confidential business matter that has not yet been publicly announced.

Costco’s shift away from books came largely because of the labor required to stock books, the executives said. Copies have to be laid out by hand, rather than just rolled out on a pallet as other products often are at Costco. The constant turnaround of books — new ones come out every Tuesday and the ones that have not sold need to be returned — also created more work.

A Costco representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

The decision could be a significant setback for publishers at a moment when the industry is facing stagnant print sales and publishing houses are struggling to find ways to reach customers who have migrated online.

While Costco isn’t as critical a retail outlet as bookstore chains like Barnes & Noble, it has provided a way for people who might not otherwise seek out books to see them and perhaps grab a new thriller or a cookbook while shopping for socks and paper towels. Shoppers could also browse books at Costco in a way that is difficult to do online.

Costco had already stopped selling books in some markets, including Alaska and Hawaii. Publishing industry executives say other big box retailers remain committed to carrying books and have seen some success with the category.

5 things to know about rosé, plus our favorite bottles under $20

Light-bodied, fruity and crisp, rosé is the ideal summer wine that’s also delicious year-round.

favorite season of the year essay

If you’ve been to a wine store lately, you may have noticed it’s rosé season. As our gardens burst out in various shades of pink each spring, so too do the shelves at our local shops sprout bottles, boxes and cans of pink wine. Here are a few things to know — and a few misconceptions to avoid — about rosé.

Rosé is the ideal summertime wine.

Rosé is light-bodied, fresh and fruity, with moderate alcohol. It’s a thirst quencher — though don’t forget water! — for the end of a long hot day. It’s a scene-setter, too. That first sip of cold rosé on the patio, as the day’s heat begins to wane and the sun slides down to the west, can brighten a mood and ignite a joyful evening. Rosé is also a great partner for the lighter foods we eat in summer (more on that below).

Rosé is also affordable. We can still find delicious rosés under $20, though spending a few dollars more can be rewarding in quality and excitement. As rosé has become increasingly popular over the past decade (remember “Brosé” and “Rosé All Day”?), producers have put more effort into these wines, and we reap the benefits of higher quality. Some of these wines are quite serious — rosé is more than just a cheap thrill.

It also doesn’t expire on Labor Day. Yes, rosé is a summer wine, but it works well throughout the year. Those slightly more expensive, substantial examples will happily grace your Thanksgiving table and might even lend a summery note to your Valentine’s Day dinner.

Rosé is not a one-year wonder.

A decade ago, the previous year’s rosés would arrive in the U.S. market in May. Spanish rosados used to be sold two years after the vintage — in other words, we’d be buying 2022s now. But an idea has taken hold of rosé as a fragile wine that must be consumed the year after the vintage. Today they start showing up in February in a rush to grab coveted shelf space in stores, and any that come to market later in the year find those shelves too crowded for more.

That gives us an opportunity to comb closeout bins in the fall for extra bargains on rosés the stores have given up on. Those can be deep discounts on wines to last us through the winter — at least until the next crop comes in.

Rosé is mood friendly and food friendly.

Rosé is a great partner for the lighter foods of summer, such as salads and grilled vegetables. It’s a famous match for garlicky aioli or bouillabaisse from its spiritual homeland in Provence. And its fruitiness and acidity can lead to some surprising and very personal matches. Karen MacNeil, in her seminal reference, “The Wine Bible,” pairs rosé with grilled cheese sandwiches. My unicorn rosé pairing was chef Peter Chang’s signature appetizer: dry-fried eggplant . The fruitiness of the wine captured the heat of the dish in suspended animation while amplifying the citrusy notes of the Sichuan peppercorns.

Paler isn’t (necessarily) better.

Many wine lovers prize the palest of pinks, but color is an indication of style more than quality. Rosé is made from red grapes, with the juice drained off the skins shortly after pressing. (Some producers do blend in some white wine.) The longer the juice is left on the skins, the darker the rosé. Grape skins also contribute tannin and extract. Deeper-colored rosés, such as the wines of Tavel in the Rhone Valley, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo from Italy and Schilcher from Austria’s Styria, have more weight and structure than paler pinks from Provence and can match heartier foods. Paler rosés offer red berries (strawberries or raspberries) or melons (watermelon, cantaloupe) and sometimes both. Darker ones taste of cherries and spice, more toward the flavors of red wines. Both styles can be delicious.

Rosé is global.

Its homeland may be Provence, where its mystique conjures sunny days on the French Riviera, but quality rosé is now made wherever wine grapes prosper. The best from Sonoma , Oregon or other regions may be pricier than the standards from France, but they can be delicious and worth the splurge. Go for it.

Here are nine rosés, each under $20, and each a great value, to kick-start your summer.

Bertani Velante Bertarose 2023

Verona, Italy, $16

Bertani is famous for amarone, the sturdy, powerful red wine of northern Italy. This rosé, made with the same grapes, is starkly different in style. Racy with refreshing acidity, bursting with flavors of raspberries, cranberries and wild strawberries, and with a hint of baking spice — it’s nimble on the palate and an absolute delight. If you’re keeping track of grape varieties, the blend is corvina, molinara, corvinone and rondinella. Alcohol by volume: 12.5 percent. Bottle weight: 515 grams (Average).

Imported by Taub Family Selections . Distributed locally by RNDC .

Jean-Luc Colombo Cape Bleue Rosé 2023

IGP Méditerranée, France, $16

This wine is consistently a great value rosé. Strawberries and cantaloupe are seasoned with wild herbs and sea salt for a refreshing, savory treat. ABV: 12.5 percent. BW: 390 grams (Light).

La Vieille Ferme Rosé 2023

France, $12

The widely available La Vielle Ferme is one of the top-selling rosés in the United States. Year after year, it defies expectations for such an affordable wine: The 2023 is on the melon side of rosé — cantaloupe, watermelon and wild herbs grace the palate. La Vieille Ferme is a label of the Perrin family, a leading producer in the Rhone Valley. This wine is also available in 1.5-liter bottles and 3-liter boxes for even greater value. ABV: 12.5 percent. BW: 415 grams (Light).

Imported by Vineyard Brands . Distributed locally by Breakthru Beverage Group .

Plaimont Rosé d’Enfer 2023

Saint-Mont, France, $15

The label boasts “one hell of a rosé,” and I can’t disagree. This one hails from the Pyrenees foothills of southwestern France and blends a local grape called pinenc with cabernet sauvignon. The result is flavors with more spice than fruit, and a long, refreshing finish. Certified sustainable. ABV: 12 percent. BW: 550 grams (Average).

Imported by Tri-Vin . Distributed locally by DMV Distributing .

Louis Jadot Rosé 2023

Côteaux Bourguignons, France, $16

The storied Burgundy producer makes this tasty rosé from gamay, the grape of Beaujolais. Look for flavors of melon and cherries. The wine is a bit austere, suggesting that it might soften a little with another few months in bottle. So I might hold a few bottles until September for a warm early-autumn evening. ABV: 12.5 percent. BW: 420 grams (Light).

Imported by Kobrand . Distributed locally by RNDC .

Pigoudet Première Rosé 2023

Côteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, France, $16

Here is a textbook Provence rosé, offering strawberry flavors with garrigue hints of sage and thyme. It’s so good, it almost made a gloomy day feel like a sunny afternoon on the patio. ABV: 12.5 percent. BW: 535 grams (Average).

Imported and distributed locally by Rooted Imports and Distribution .

Vignobles François Ravel Château Montaud 2023

Côtes de Provence, France, $15

Tart berries yield to ripe honeydew melon on this inexpensive charmer in an elegant traditional Provencal bottle. ABV: 12.5 percent. BW: 515 grams (Average).

Imported and distributed locally by M. Touton Selection .

Klinker Brick Bricks & Roses Rosé 2023

Mokelumne River, Lodi, Calif., $16

This Rhone-style blend of grenache, mourvedre, carignane and syrah adds some warm Lodi spice for a California accent. Certified sustainable. ABV: 12.6 percent. BW: 545 grams (Average).

Distributed locally by RNDC .

Mont Gravet Rosé 2023

Strawberry and cantaloupe, with a hint of thyme, make this inexpensive rosé a great value for the price. ABV: 12.5 percent. BW: 400 grams (Light).

Imported by Winesellers . Distributed locally by Winebow .

Prices are approximate. For availability, check Wine.com , Wine-searcher.com and the websites and social media feeds of the wineries, importers, distributors, and your favorite local wine store. You can also ask your local retailer to order wines from the distributors listed. Bottle weight is included, because this is the single most important contributor to wine’s carbon footprint . Have wine questions for Dave McIntyre? Send them to [email protected] .

★ Good: The wine delivers what it promises at a fair price. If it says chardonnay, it tastes like chardonnay.

★★ Excellent: A wine with character and added interest. May elevate your eyebrows at the first sip.

★★★ Extraordinary: An exciting wine that stands out from others in its class. Fist-pumping, table-thumping good.

★★★★ Sublime: Otherworldly. May have you thinking, “So this is what they were talking about.”

What to stream this weekend on all your favorite streaming apps.

It’s the weekend! Huzzah!

The second weekend of June comes with a handful of fun shows and movies to watch, though some of the biggest releases of the month aren’t until a wee bit later. We’ll get to those, of course, in next weekend’s guide.

For now, let’s dive right in!

Check out last weekend’s streaming guide right here :

The Acolyte (Disney+ — June 4th)

The Acolyte is the latest Disney+ Star Wars show and I really don’t know what to think about it yet, other than it seems pretty bland so far. There are some good fight scenes and some of the characters have a lot of potential, but overall I feel like I’ve been spoiled by The Mandalorian (not Season 3) and the masterpiece that is Andor. I’ve watched the first four episodes and I’m crossing my fingers that the next four improve. Read my review right here .

The Best Gaming Mouse That’ll Improve Your Aim

Sweet tooth season 3 (netflix — june 6th).

I watched the first few episodes of Sweet Tooth with my kids when it first came out and then life got in the way and we all got busy and then we sort of forgot about it, but it was really good! I’m reminded that I really need to catch back up on this even if my kids are too busy to watch it with me now. A very, very unique take on a post-apocalypse. (Maybe we were all a little too COVID-weary to watch this back in Season 1).

Hit Man (Netflix — June 7th)

This is a movie about a guy who pretends to be a hitman in order to catch people trying to pay to have other people murdered. Things take a turn when he falls for one of his marks and then things take a few other turns in what ought to have been a pretty fun, funny, dark, twisted Richard Linklater movie. Alas, despite what critics on Rotten Tomatoes are saying, and despite a strong audience reception, I just did not like it. I didn’t hate it, and since everyone else seems to like it maybe you will. I did not. Here’s my review.

Am I Okay? (Max - June 6th)

Dakota Johnson needs a win. Madame Webb was just so horrifically bad . At least it got her press and as they say bad press is better than no press. Still, Madame Webb was truly awful, through no fault of Johnson’s, and at least this romantic comedy / coming out story is fairing a lot better with critics and audiences.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die (In Theaters)

Out now, the latest Will Smith / Martin Lawrence buddy cop action-comedy is doing way better with critics—and even better with audiences—than I ever expected. I don’t think I’ve even seen all the Bad Boys movies, actually, though oddly enough the last two are reviewing way better than the first two. I might have to take a trip to the theater . . .

Bonus: Outer Range (Prime Video)

I am finally, finally catching up on Prime Video’s bonkers Weird-West series Outer Range, led by Josh Brolin as the eternally grouchy curmudgeon rancher, Royal Abbott. I don’t even know where to begin. It takes place in Wyoming and involves a mysterious hole in the earth on the Abbot land, a long-held blood feud, and a mysterious bison. Season 1 ended with a really mind-blowing twist and Season 2 (which I’m about halfway through) is even wackier than the first. My only gripe is that I’m having a hard time with just how unlikable everyone is, but the zany story keeps me going. I recommend it.

What are you watching these days? Let me know on Twitter and Facebook .

Red Sox Hurler Shut Down With Rare IL Designation Amid Season-Long Struggles

  • Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox continue their flurry of roster moves as injuries have become a prevailing storyline throughout the 2024 campaign.

In just a two-game series against the Atlanta Braves, American League Rookie of the Year favorite Wilyer Abreu was placed on the injured list with an ankle sprain and outfielder Tyler O'Neill returned from knee inflammation.

The other transaction in this series, however, is the most unique and provides more questions than answers.

"(Boston) placed Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list with anxiety (retroactive to June 2)," MassLive's Christopher Smith reported Wednesday. "Right-handed reliever Zack Kelly was recalled from Worcester to take Martin’s spot.

"Martin brought his anxiety to the Red Sox’ attention over the weekend."

Martin has a 4.22 ERA with a 24-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .266 batting average against and a 1.08 WHIP in 21 1/3 innings this season. Most people would be content with that production but Martin has reached much more elite levels of play in his nine-year career.

The 38-year-old has no timetable for return but Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow acknowledged that Martin felt as though his mental state was impacting his fatigue, energy, recovery and sleep.

It was apparent that something was off, as Martin is coming off a season in which he posted a 1.05 ERA in 51 1/3 innings.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora made it clear that he will give Martin as much time as he needs and hope that the veteran will get back to full strength sooner rather than later.

The Big Picture

  • Grey's Anatomy fans can mark their calendars as the medical drama returns on March 14, promising more unpredictable doctor antics and the potential comeback of Meredith Grey.
  • Abbott Elementary, the successful comedy hindered by the strikes, will premiere new episodes on February 27 with a special hour-long episode. Expect high expectations and continued success for the show's third season.
  • As audiences head back to the hospital and school, they can anticipate more drama and laughter from Grey's Anatomy and Abbott Elementary , respectively, after being temporarily affected by the strikes.

It's time to head back to the hospital, as ABC has announced midseason return dates for some of its biggest hits, including the ongoing drama featuring an unpredictable group of doctors called Grey's Anatomy . Starting on March 14, audiences will be able to head back to the series currently led by Dr. Miranda Bailey ( Chandra Wilson ) and the rumored return of Meredith Grey ( Ellen Pompeo ). There was a lot of drama at stake the last time the show was on the air, which saw its schedule briefly affected by the strikes organized by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA .

In addition to the doctors of Grey's Anatomy coming back for more shifts, Abbott Elementary is scheduled to premiere new episodes on February 27. After not being able to tell more stories on the screen because of the strike, the third season of the successful comedy will start with a special, hour-long episode . Quinta Brunson will return as Janine Teagues, a second-grade teacher trying to make her students' life a little bit better, while attempting to manage her own. Given the incredible success the show received over the past couple of years, there are high expectations for its triumphal return.

9-1-1 , the network drama about a team of first responders starring Angela Bassett and Peter Krause is set to premiere on ABC on March 14, after the project was canceled by Fox after six seasons earlier this year. The amount of dangers the team will have to face in this new age of the show will be unpredictable, with the main characters needing to bring the best of their abilities into their new home. The premiere will be immediately followed by the return of Grey's Anatomy and a new episode of Station 19 .

An Unusual Season of Television

Almost every major scripted television project was affected by the strikes, changing previously planned production schedules and leaving future release dates in a very uncertain situation. But with a new contract in place ensuring fair compensation and protections for actors, the television schedule can move forward, with The Conners and Not Dead Yet returning on February 7 alongside Abbott Elementary . ABC is getting ready for the new year, with a wide variety of serialized dramas and comedies filling out weeknights for viewers to enjoy.

My Favourite Season Essay Example #1

Seasons come and go, each with its unique characteristics that make it stand out. However, my favorite season is autumn. It is a time of change and beauty. The cool weather, the beautiful foliage, and the many outdoor activities make it a season to look forward to. In this essay, I will explain why autumn is my favorite season.

My favorite season is autumn because of the cool weather and beautiful foliage. After the hot and humid summer, the cool weather that autumn brings is a welcome relief. The temperature is just right, not too hot and not too cold. The air becomes crisp and refreshing, making it perfect for outdoor activities. The leaves on the trees change color and fall, creating a beautiful landscape. The red, yellow, and orange colors of the leaves are a sight to behold. The cool weather and the beautiful foliage are the main reasons why autumn is my favorite season.

The changing colors of the leaves create a picturesque landscape that is a joy to behold. The red, yellow, and orange colors of the leaves make the landscape look like a painting. The changing colors of the leaves also symbolize change and remind us that nothing is permanent. The leaves fall, and the trees become bare, but they will grow new leaves in the spring. The changing colors of the leaves make autumn a season of reflection and appreciation.

In conclusion, autumn is my favorite season because of the cool weather, beautiful foliage, and the many outdoor activities. The cool weather makes it perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking and apple picking, and the changing colors of the leaves create a picturesque landscape that is a joy to behold. Autumn is a season of change and reflection, and it reminds us that nothing is permanent.

My Favourite Season Essay Example #2

The first reason why autumn is my favourite season is the breathtaking foliage that it brings. As the leaves begin to change colour, the entire landscape transforms into a stunning display of red, orange, and yellow. The trees appear to be on fire, and it is truly a sight to behold. I love taking long walks during this time of year, admiring the beauty of nature and feeling the crisp air on my face. There is something incredibly peaceful about being surrounded by such natural beauty.

Another reason why I love autumn is the perfect weather it brings. The heat of summer has subsided, and the chill of winter has not yet arrived. This makes it the ideal time for outdoor activities such as hiking and apple picking. The cool, dry air is refreshing and invigorating, and it makes physical activity much more enjoyable. I love spending my weekends exploring the outdoors during this time of year, soaking up the beauty of the season and staying active at the same time.

In conclusion, autumn is my favourite season for many reasons. From the stunning foliage to the perfect weather and cozy atmosphere, there is so much to love about this time of year. Whether I am enjoying a brisk walk through the woods or cuddled up with a warm drink, I always feel a sense of peace and contentment during the autumn months. It is truly a special time of year, and I am grateful for the beauty and joy it brings to my life.

My Favourite Season Essay Example #3

The first reason why autumn is my favourite season is the cool, crisp air and beautiful fall foliage. The temperature during autumn is perfect, and the air is fresh, making it a pleasant experience to be outside. The fall foliage is another factor that makes this season unique. The leaves on trees change colour from green to yellow, orange, and red, creating a beautiful sight. Walking through a park or forest and seeing the leaves falling gently to the ground is a magical experience. Furthermore, the sound of leaves crunching underfoot adds to the autumn season’s beauty.

The second reason why autumn is my favourite season is the fun outdoor activities to enjoy. During this season, there are many activities to do, such as apple picking, hiking, and camping. Apple picking is a fun activity to do with friends and family, and it is an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while getting fresh fruit. In this article, you are going to learn how to write an essay/paragraph on my favourite season or the season I like most. Here, we’ve included essays/paragraphs on all the six seasons of India. So, let’s begin.

Table of Contents

Essay on My Favourite Season Winter

Winter is the best of all seasons and I like this season the most. December, January and February are the three winter months. The weather at this time is very pleasant. In this season we can work hard but do not get tired. We put on warm clothes and enjoy the bright sunshine. The nights are very cold. The night in a warm bed under a quilt is very comfortable.

Paddy is harvested in this season. Colourful seasonal flowers grow in gardens. Fish, vegetables and fruits are also available in plenty in this season. They are very cheap also. This is the most suitable time for holding picnics in the open air. We can go out and hold excursions in winter.

Various types of fairs are held and festivals like Saraswati Puja, Christmas, and New Year’s Day are celebrated in this season. While we enjoy the cool comfort of the winter, the poor people suffer a lot during these months. They do not have warm clothes to protect them from cold. Overall I love this season very much.

My Favourite Season Summer Essay

Of all the six seasons, my favourite season is summer. It is the hottest season of the year. The summer season starts in March and ends in June. In this season the sun shines brightly. The best part of this season is summer vacation. This is a great relief from a hectic schedule, home works, and exam pressure. I enjoy the vacation by going to a beach or a hill station with friends and families. In summer I like to have cold drinks, lassi, ice cream, and coconut water.

We get many fruits in this season like mango, watermelon, litchi, jackfruit, pineapple etc. Many festivals such as charak puja, Rama Navami, Baisakhi, Rabindra Jayanti, etc. are celebrated in this season. There are varieties of fruits and vegetables available during this season. Many beautiful flowers like Lilly, Marigold, Roses, Dahlia, and Sunflower bloom in this season. Summer is just a wonderful season with so much fun and enjoyment.

My Favourite season Rainy Season

The season I like most is the Rainy season or monsoon. In India, this season begins in mid-June and ends in early September. Rainy season comes after the scorching heat of summer season and gives us relief. Clouds float here and there in the sky. Lightning and thunder occur frequently. People can be seen with umbrellas and raincoats. Dry rivers and lakes become full.

Farmers plough their fields. Children become very happy. They make paper boats and dance in the rain. A variety of fruits, vegetables, and crops grow in this season. Beautiful flowers blossom in this time. Beautiful rainbows can be seen in the sky.  This season brings a lot of festivals like Raksha Bandhan, 15th August, Teej, Janmashtami, etc. We can enjoy various types of dishes in the rain.

But sometimes heavy rainfall brings the flood. Flood causes many to lose their lives, houses, and livelihood. On the other hand, if there is no rainfall for a long time, drought can occur. This causes extensive damage to crops. So, the Rainy season is an important season for us.

My Favourite Season Autumn Essay

During the rainy season, the sky remains overcast with clouds. Rains fall continually. But, with autumn, the clouds are no more. A deep blue sky spreads, like a deep blue sea. The white patches of clouds float like little fairy boats.

The day looks golden with the sun shining. The night has a silvery moon, with its silvery luster. The millions of stars, too, sparkle. Now and then, rain begins to fall thick and fast. But then suddenly the rain stops and, again, a deep blue sky smiles. In autumn, the rivers are full to the brim. The fields are all green and golden with crops. Men and women are busy among them, reaping the harvest. Nature and man seem to unite in one mood of peaceful gladness. Autumn is my favourite season.

My favourite season of the year is summer. It begins in April and ends in June. During the summer season, days are long and nights are short. The skies are clear and the sun is bright. We get month-long summer vacation and can stay at home with our parents and family without having to worry about school. We usually go to visit our grandparents in the village during the summer season.

In the village, I get the opportunity to play with the neighbourhood kids in mango and guava orchards that surround my grandparents’ place. They teach me new games and I always have a great time with them. Summer is also the season of mangoes. We get to eat so many varieties of juicy, delicious mangoes.

My favourite season of the year is winter. The Winter months are very cold as the temperature drops low. It also snows in the northern, high-altitude parts of the country. We wear a lot of warm clothes and eat hot foods to keep us warm. Our metabolism increases during the winter season and thus, we can eat a lot of delicious food. Hot drinks like tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also welcomed.

During the winter season, we usually go on a week-long vacation to hill stations to enjoy the snow. I make snowmen with my parents and siblings and go ice staking as well. There, at night, we create small bonfires to warm ourselves and chit-chat with each other. Winter is also the season of festivities as we celebrate Diwali, Christmas and New Year in winter.

My mother always bakes cakes for us on Christmas and they are warm and delicious. When I don’t have school, I like staying in bed covered in a thick quilt and reading my favourite storybooks. I also go out to play cricket and badminton with my friends every afternoon as it warms my body and keeps me active. Due to the cold weather, we don’t sweat much and can play for a long time. Because of all these reasons, I like the winter season.

Out of the four predominant seasons, my favourite is the monsoon or the rainy season. It starts to rain heavily all over the country by July. As it rains, the water washes away all the dust from plants and trees, making them look green and beautiful again. As the rain hits the dried-up ground, the smell of wet earth fills the atmosphere and makes our hearts dance.

New seedlings begin to sprout and grasses and plants begin to grow all around us. Our surroundings are covered in green and look very mesmerising. As India is an agricultural country, the rainy season is very important for us. Rains irrigate fields and help crops grow. Without rain, most of our major crops will fail, causing loss of business and even starvation. As my grandparents and uncles are farmers, I have experienced the joy that the rainy season brings to farmers very closely.

I also like the rainy season because when it rains heavily, I do not need to go to school. Sometimes, even my parents take leave and then our whole family gets to enjoy the day together. My mother makes delicious fritters with tea which we enjoy while playing board games like ludo and carrom. My father is very fond of flowering plants and we have a lot of plants in our garden. During the rainy season, our garden looks majestic with hundreds of blooming flowers in many different colours.

My friends often come over to my house and we enjoy playing in the garden when the rain stops. We make paper boats and put them in water puddles. Sometimes, we also compete to see whose boat would go farther. Sometimes our parents allow us to go outside when it is raining and then, we enjoy jumping in puddles, getting drenched and playing in rain. It is very fun to play in the rain. After that, my mother makes hot soup for us to warm us up.

When it rains at night and electricity is cut, we get to enjoy our food in candlelight. After dinner, we go straight to bed and tell each other ghost stories. I and my siblings always try to scare each other. When it rains for days, I like to sit by the window and read my favourite books while watching the rain. The rainy season is very special for me and when it ends in September, I wish for it to come quickly next year.

250 Words Essay on My Favourite Season

Every season brings its own unique charm, but the one I hold dearest to my heart is autumn. Often overshadowed by the vibrant summer or the cozy winter, autumn, for me, is a sublime blend of the two, offering a warm, tranquil ambiance that resonates with my soul.

The Aesthetic Appeal

Autumn is an artist’s dream, a season that transforms the world into a living canvas. The leaves morph from monotonous green to a spectrum of reds, oranges, and yellows, painting a breathtaking panorama that no other season can replicate. The soft rustling of the leaves underfoot and the crisp air tinged with the scent of earth and rain, create a sensory symphony that is both soothing and invigorating.

Symbolism of Autumn

Autumn is not just a visual delight; it is a season rich in symbolism. It represents change and transformation, reminding us of the cyclical nature of life. As the leaves fall, they symbolize the need to shed the old to make way for the new, a lesson that resonates deeply in our personal and academic lives.

Autumn Activities

Autumn also brings with it a plethora of activities. From apple picking to pumpkin carving, from hiking through the autumn foliage to cozy evenings by the fire, the season is a treasure trove of experiences that are both simple and profound.

500 Words Essay on My Favourite Season

Introduction: the charm of seasons.

Seasons are a beautiful testament to the cyclical nature of life, each carrying its own distinct charm and character. Among them all, my favourite is the autumn season. Autumn, with its vibrant hues and mellow weather, is a season of change and introspection, making it an unparalleled source of inspiration.

Autumn: A Symphony of Colours

Autumn is often associated with a rich palette of colours. The leaves change from a monotonous green to a vibrant array of yellows, oranges, and reds. This transformation is not just a visual spectacle but a metaphor for life itself. It signifies the importance of change, of letting go, and of rejuvenation. The trees shed their leaves, preparing for a new cycle of life, much like how we must shed old habits and thoughts to make way for new perspectives.

The Weather: A Mellow Respite

The weather during autumn is another aspect that makes it my favourite season. The scorching heat of the summer gives way to a mellow coolness, while the biting cold of winter is still a distant thought. The days are warm, and the nights are cool, providing a comfortable balance. This weather is symbolic of a calm equilibrium, a lesson about the importance of balance in life.

Autumn: A Season of Harvest

Autumn nights: a celestial spectacle.

The clear autumn nights provide a celestial spectacle, with the stars shining brightly against the dark sky. This clarity and brightness serve as a metaphor for hope and aspiration. Even in the darkness, there is a light guiding us, much like the stars guide us through the dark autumn nights.

Conclusion: Autumn, A Season of Life’s Lessons

English Summary

My Favourite Season Essay

A season is a period of the year that is characterized by special climate conditions. There are four major seasons we are blessed with, to relish every year, namely- Spring, Summer, Autumn (Fall) and Winter. Each season holds its own importance and distinctiveness.

My favourite season of the year is Summer. The weather is warm during the summer. It encourages me to participate in outdoor activities.

Our school remains closed for nearly two months, which I believe is the best part. During the vacations, I am also allowed to sleep for longer hours. I get to engage in numerous fun activities.

The summer months are relaxing and free from the time-bound duties I am expected to perform, every day, throughout the year. I am able to enjoy late-night movies with my friends and parents without worrying about assignments and homework.

In summer holidays, I also go to picnics with my extended family. We pack all the necessary items and belongings beforehand. I truly enjoy every aspect of it. We usually travel to distant countryside locations. The thing that I admire the most is the journey to. I feel like travelling to the end of the world.

On summer evenings my mom and dad cook different dishes together in the open air. I also lend a hand to them by washing a few dishes and setting the tables.

Later, in the evening we all sit in the open air and snack together. Additionally, my father plays an old 80s song at the backdrop to add ambiance to the setting.

The summer season is sentimental to me. The fun activities, the late-night movies, the hearty laughs with my friends and family will all remain an integral part of me no matter where I am tomorrow. I see values and love and wisdom in them, which I believe, are worth cherishing and treasures of a lifetime.

The warm weather allows me to be outside, enjoying all the outdoor activities that summer has to offer. Whether it’s going for a swim, playing sports, or just relaxing on the beach, summer is the perfect time to be outside.

Long Essay On My Favourite Season

As the seasons come and go, it’s hard not to have a favorite. Whether it’s the warm summer months or the crisp chill of winter, each season brings something special with it. But for me, there is one season in particular that stands out above the rest: autumn. From the changing colors of nature to the feeling of cozy warmth from a cup of hot chocolate, this article will explore why autumn is my favorite season.

Introduction

My favourite season is spring. I love the warmer weather and the longer days. This is the time of year when the natural world comes alive after a long winter. The trees and flowers start to bloom, and the birds start to sing. There is something special about this time of year that just makes me feel good.

I also enjoy the extra daylight in springtime. I can go for a walk after work or take my dog for a run in the park without worrying about it getting dark. And, of course, there are all the public holidays in spring like Easter and Anzac Day.

So, what’s not to love about spring? For me, it’s simply the best time of year.

Definition of a Season

The four seasons are winter, spring, summer, and fall. Winter is the coldest season of the year, while summer is the warmest. Spring and fall are considered to be transition seasons. Each season has its own characteristics that make it unique.

Winter is typically associated with snow and ice. The days are shorter and the nights are longer. The weather is usually colder and there is often a chill in the air. Spring is a time of new beginnings. The days become warmer and the flowers start to bloom. The trees begin to turn green as the leaves start to grow back. Summer is the hottest season of the year. The days are long and the nights are short. The weather is usually very hot and humid. Fall is a time of change. The leaves on the trees begin to change color and eventually fall off. The days become shorter and the nights become longer.

Reasons why Summer is My Favourite Season

Summer is my favourite season because the weather is perfect for outdoor activities, the days are longer so you can enjoy more time outside, and there are always fun events happening.

I love spending time outdoors in the summertime, whether I’m going for a hike or just relaxing in my backyard. The warm weather is perfect for being active, and I always feel so refreshed after spending time in the sunshine. There are also so many fun events that happen in the summer, like music festivals and farmers markets. I always feel like there’s something exciting to do during summer months.

Overall, I just love everything about summertime! It’s definitely my favourite season of the year.

– Weather and Climate

There are mainly three seasons in India. Winter, summer and the monsoon. I like all the three seasons but I love summer the most. It is my favourite season.

The weather during the summer months is very hot and dry. The sun shines brightly for most of the day and there is very little rainfall. However, despite the heat, I enjoy spending time outdoors in the summer months. There are a number of reasons why summer is my favourite season.

Firstly, I love the long sunny days. I can spend hours outside in the sun without feeling tired or bored. Secondly, I love eating ice cream and other cold drinks to cool down in the heat. Thirdly, I get to go on holidays with my family during the summer break. We usually travel to a hill station or go camping in the mountains. Lastly, I enjoy playing sports such as cricket and tennis in the summer months.

So these are a few reasons why summer is my favourite season. What about you? What is your favourite season?

– Outdoor Activities

Outdoor activities are so much fun in the springtime! The weather is warm but not too hot, and there’s a refreshing breeze that makes everything feel new again. Here are some of our favorite things to do outdoors in the spring:

• Go on a nature walk – Spring is a great time to get outside and appreciate all the natural beauty around us. Take a leisurely stroll through your neighborhood or a nearby park, and take in all the sights and sounds of nature coming back to life.

• Have a picnic – There’s nothing quite like enjoying a meal outdoors on a beautiful spring day. Spread out a blanket in your backyard or at your local park, and enjoy some quality time with family or friends while you feast on delicious food and drink.

• Plant something – Whether you have a green thumb or not, planting something in the springtime is always satisfying. If you’re not into gardening, try planting some flowers in pots on your porch or balcony. Or, plant some veggies in a small plot of land if you’re feeling ambitious!

• Go for a bike ride – Exploring your town or city by bike is such a great way to get some exercise while also taking in all the sights. Spring is the perfect time to dust off your bicycle and hit the road!

– Festivities and Celebrations

When it comes to festive seasons and celebrations, there is no better time than spring. This is the season when nature comes alive after a long winter sleep, and people can finally enjoy some warmer weather. There are many different festivals and celebrations that take place during spring, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Some of the most popular spring festivals include Easter, which is celebrated by Christians all over the world, and Passover, which is celebrated by Jewish people. Both of these holidays have religious significance, but they are also enjoyed by many people who do not follow any particular faith. Other popular spring festivals include May Day and Beltane.

May Day is a traditional festival that celebrates the start of summer. It is often observed with maypole dancing and other fun activities. Beltane is another ancient festival that was originally celebrated by pagans. It marks the beginning of summer and the end of winter, and it is usually celebrated with bonfires and other festivities.

Whether you are looking for religious or secular celebrations, there is sure to be something going on during springtime that you will enjoy. So get out there and celebrate the arrival of warmer weather!

In conclusion, my favourite season is winter. There are so many things to love about the cold, crisp air and snow-covered landscapes that make it a special time of year. From skiing down a mountain to sipping hot cocoa by the fire, winter activities bring me joy and provide me with memories I will never forget. While other seasons have their own advantages, nothing beats the feeling of Winter for me!
