Pert math practice test.

The Math section of the PERT Testing covers the following topics: 

• operations and properties.  
• Fractions, decimals, and percentages.  
• Solving linear equations and inequalities.  
• College algebra expressions and equations.  
• Functions and their properties.  
• Geometry concepts, such as area, perimeter, and volume.  

The questions on the Math section vary in difficulty to gauge the student's proficiency in both basic and more advanced mathematical concepts. Some questions may involve critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The PERT Math section allows the use of an on-screen calculator. However, certain questions may be designed to assess a student's ability to solve problems without a calculator. Here are four sample questions that represent the various topics being tested on this section:

Answer & Explanation The correct answer is (D).

To solve this question, you need to perform the two main steps involved in calculating the missing sides using the Pythagorean theorem.

Look at the right-angled triangle in the question. Two sides of it are given so you can find the hypotenuse using the Pythagorean theorem. Notice that the triangle's hypotenuse is also the rectangle's missing side, which will be valuable in the next step to find its diagonal. To find the hypotenuse, place the given values in the formula (mark the missing hypotenuse with h):

With the Pythagorean theorem, you can use the given side length and the length of the missing side that you found, and calculate the triangle's hypotenuse, which is the rectangle's diagonal (m)

Therefore, the correct answer is (D).

Sarah wants to build eight identical wooden chairs for the new dinner table in her house. One pound of wood costs three and a half dollars. She uses sixteen and a half pounds to build three chairs.

How much will it cost her to build all the chairs she wants?

• First, you need to find the amount of wood required to build eight chairs. You should start by finding the amount required for one chair. It is pointed out that Sarah uses 16.5 pounds for three chairs, so in order to find the amount required for 1 chair, you need to divide it by three:

16.5÷3=15÷3+1.5÷3=5+0.5=5.5 Pounds.

• Next, multiply the result by 8 to find the amount required to build all chairs:

5.5×8=(5×8)+(0.5×8)=40+4=44 (Pounds).

• Finally, to find the cost of all the wood required, you need to multiply the amount found by the cost of one pound of wood, which is three and a half dollars:

44×3.5=(44×3)+(44×0.5)=(40×3)+(4×3)+(44÷2)=120+12+22=154 (Dollars). Therefore, the correct answer is (D)

Answer & Explanation The correct answer is (B).

• The mean is the average of a data set (exam scores in this case). To find it, you add up all the data set items and divide the sum by the number of items.
• In this question, you are given most of the data set and its mean, so you can find the missing value by creating an equation and marking David's score with a variable (x):

• To solve this equation, multiply both sides by 6:

• Using the formed equation, you could discover the missing item of the data set, David's score on the exam ( 70 ), and therefore (B) is the correct answer.
• Another way of solving is by using the mean's property- the sum of the distances from the mean must be zero. If you then add the differences of all scores, including David's, from 75, it should be equal to zero.

• David's score should be 5 points lower than 75 (-5): 75 - 5 = 70 → David's score in the exam is 70 and (B) is the correct answer.

PERT Reading Practice Test

The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test reading comprehension section aims to measure a student's ability to understand and analyze written passages. The section consists of multiple-choice questions based on one or more reading passages. Passages may cover a variety of topics, including humanities, science, and social sciences. Some questions may require students to refer to specific details or evidence from the passage to support their answers. The scores of the PERT reading test range between 50 and 150. 

Here are the skills assessed by the PERT Reading section: 

• Comprehension : Understanding the main idea, supporting details, and the author's purpose. 
• Analysis : Interpreting information, making inferences, and drawing conclusions. 

Here are a few Reading sample questions that reflect the questions on the real assessment:

Read the passage below before answering the questions. Little benefit is expected from climate change, but scientists have found at least one species that seems to be better off in a rapidly warming world. The Brown Argus butterfly has increased its range in England northward by about 50 miles over the past two decades. While not unexpected—many species have already responded to recent warming by moving—what makes the Brown Argus butterfly different is that the change in range has actually benefited the species. In its caterpillar form, the Brown Argus feeds off wild geranium plants, but only in warmer summers—which is exactly what’s been happening in England and much of the rest of the world thanks to climate change. Over the past 20 years, the Brown Argus, which was considered scarce in the 1980s, has spread northward and now flourishes in much of southern England. As David Roy of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in the U.K. put it, "The change in diet represents a change to the interactions between species—in this case between a butterfly and the plants that its caterpillars eat—caused by climate warming. 1.  The correct answer is (A)  because the description "seems to be better off" is an opinion. The rest of the answers are facts stated in the passage.

2. The correct answer is (C)  as it encapsulates both main points of the passage: the butterflies have benefitted from climate change, but most species are expected to suffer from it.

3. The correct answer is (D)  Global warming has "caused" a beneficial "effect" for the Brown Argus butterfly.

4. The correct answer is (B). Consider the following breakdown of the second paragraph: "In its caterpillar form, the Brown Argus feeds off wild geranium plants, but only in warmer summers—" In other words : warmer summers → caterpillars feed on geranium "which is exactly what's been happening in England and much of the rest of the world thanks to climate change." PERT Writing Practice Test

The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test Writing section is designed to evaluate your skills in written English, including grammar, sentence structure, and organization. Here are some of the main subjects tested on the Writing section:

The only sentence in which the subject and the verb agree is in answer (B). Both the subject (two boys) and the verb (go) are plural. Therefore, the correct answer is (B).

Which of the following sentences includes an example of vague pronoun use?

Answer & Explanation The correct answer is (A).

A pronoun is a word that refers to a specific noun in a given context, and its antecedent is the word that is being referred to. Vague pronoun use is when it is unclear what the antecedent is, as there are multiple fitting subjects or objects that could be what the pronoun in the sentence is referring to. In the sentence in option A, the word “which” is a relative pronoun referring to something that “was the reason [Callie] was late for work.” It is unclear, however, which antecedent it is referring to—the fact that she “styled her hair in a French braid,” or “the heavy rain outside.” That is why it is considered vague pronoun use.

Which title of a work of art is capitalized correctly?

Answer & Explanation The correct answer is (A). The major words in the titles of works of art (but not short prepositions or the articles "the," "a," or "an," if they are not the first word of the title) should always be capitalized. Therefore, the correct answer is (A).

What PERT Scores do You Need to Pass?

The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) doesn't have a traditional "pass" or "fail" scoring system. Instead, it's used to determine your current academic skill level, particularly in Mathematics, Reading, and Writing, to place you in the appropriate college courses. 

However, there are specific placement test scores threshold that indicate college readiness. Here's a general idea of what this score range usually looks like: 

• Mathematics : A score of around 114 or higher typically indicates readiness for college-level math courses. 
• Reading : A score of approximately 106 or higher generally suggests readiness for college-level reading assignments. 
• Writing : A score in the vicinity of 103 or higher is often considered indicative of college-level writing skills. 

These scores can vary slightly depending on the institution. It's important to check with the specific college or university you're interested in attending for their particular score requirements. Remember, if your scores are below these thresholds, it usually means you'll be placed in developmental courses to improve your skills before taking on college-level work. 

PERT Testing FAQ's

Calculators are not generally allowed. The test is designed in a way that the math problems can be solved without a calculator. However, for certain math questions, a pop-up calculator is provided on the computer screen within the test interface. This means that when you take the PERT you can use this on-screen calculator for specific questions where it's deemed necessary, but you cannot bring your own calculator into the test. 

The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) is untimed, allowing test-takers to work through the questions at their own pace.

However, the average time to complete the test is usually around three hours. 

The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) typically consists of three sections: Reading, Writing ,and Mathematics. Each of these sections contains approximately 30 questions (this varies as the test is adaptive), making a total of around 90 questions for the entire test.

What is the PERT Test, and How to Score High on the PERT Exam?

What is the pert test.

Universities and colleges, within the state of Florida, use this exam. They want to ensure that college students are assigned to the most suitable courses. The classes should be right for the student’s ability and skill levels. Prospective college students who do well on their PERT test will be able to participate in regular English and math classes. However, those who don’t do well may have to begin by taking remedial or basic courses.

The PERT test includes three sections – Math, Reading, and Writing. None of these sections come with a time limit, however, they generally take 45 minutes to complete. Each section features 30 questions. The test is computer-adaptive, meaning that the questions increase in difficulty as you get more answers right. This ensures that the test remains challenging for all test-takers.

What are the Three Sections of the PERT Test?

PERT Math Sections: Students are expected to have a firm understanding of algebraic concepts and equations. You should be capable of using and applying algorithms and be adept at solving quadratic and linear equations. Scoring System of The PERT Test

Five questions in each of the PERT exam questions are classified as ‘experimental’ and won’t count towards your final score. However, you will not know which of the questions are experimental. Scores on each of the PERT sections range from 50 to 150. You will need to achieve a score of over 100 to be permitted to skip lower-level courses or classes.

At the moment, you need to achieve a PERT test score of at least 114 in the Math section, to be permitted to skip remedial and basic classes. You will need to get a score of 103 or more on the Writing section and a score of 106 on the Reading section, to enter general freshman-level English courses.

PERT test scores remain valid for 2 years.

Prep for the PERT. A Study Guide for Florida’s Postsecondary Education Readiness Test

Introduction

The State of Florida has established an assessment to determine a student’s college readiness.  The test is called Florida’s Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) and is designed to adequately assess a student’s academic skills in mathematics, reading and writing.  PERT Exams are computer adaptive tests offered by high schools and colleges to assess college readiness, one 30 question PERT Test for mathematics, reading and writing, another PERT Test for Alegbra placement. The results of these assessments are used to determine your placement into appropriate courses at a Florida college.  Some high schools will use PERT as a benchmark to measure a student’s progress toward college readiness.

A student cannot pass or fail the PERT – it is only used to determine which courses are best. The PERT is not used for school grades and according to recent Florida law, schools cannot mandate placement based on the PERT.  In short, the PERT is an indicator of college readiness, not proof of college readiness.

The best way to get all set for the PERT writing subtest is by taking multiple practice tests. This allows you to identify your weak and strong fields with regards to mastering all of the subject fields of the writing subtest and you’ll get quite a good idea of what will be on the actual test.

Many of Florida’s high schools and schools within the Florida College System administer the PERT exam to determine college-readiness. Students take the PERT exam usually already during their high school time so they can get ready to enroll in credit-bearing college courses in a timely manner.

Students are assessed on their understanding of, and language skills in, these fields:

• Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization
• Sentence structure
• Focusing on one subject or assertion
• How to create an initial argument
• Word choice
• Write in accordance with grammatical conventions
• Organization of text and development of concepts
• How well they are able to build and back up assertions
• The recognition of assertions that oppose what they have written
• How well they are able to build solid arguments
• How well they are able to compose specific tones and styles
• Their ability to use proper citational formatting
• Do they understand how to arrange information logically
• Can they use data from multiple sources, all relating to their main assertion

The PERT subtests are scored on a 50-150 scale and currently, students who score 103 or higher on the writing section may skip remedial courses and will not be required to take another college entrance exam like the ACT or SAT. This scoring requirement only applies to the writing section! For the other two subtests, math and reading, these minimally required scores are 114 and 106 respectively.

7 Tips on How to Write CPA Canada Practical Experience Requirements (PER) Experience Reports

If you have done some reading on the practical experience requirements (PER), or you’ve submitted a PER, you would have found that the process is a nightmare. There is very few documentation, you spend hours writing the reports, and when you submit it, it usually gets rejected by the reviewers. This is the case for both Experience Verification Route (EVR) and Pre-approved Program (PPR) routes.

7 Tips to write the PER report

Tip 1. Use the acronym CARL CARL stands for: Challenge, Actions, Results and Lessons learned.  When writing your experience verification, don’t put random paragraphs of things that happened. Instead, put the CARL template and fill out each of the letters. What is the challenge that you faced? What exact steps did you take to resolve it? Wat was the end result and what lessons did you learn from the experience?

Tip 2: Use the words CPA Way a lot The CPA Way is the backbone of the entire program, and it doesn’t end with the CFE. Writing PER is like writing cases. So don’t make up your own format. Instead, put the CARL format, and at the A step, put the sentence: “To resolve this challenge. I followed the CPA away”, then put each of the CPA way steps down and fill the details.

Tip 3: Use the question marks When you’re at the PER tool, called PERT, you’ll see question marks, and when you click on them, it’s gonna give you a guideline of whether this applies to you and what to fill. This is one of the BEST resources you have because it’ll guide you on your writing process. I recommend going through the entire PERT, copying these guiding comments and saving them somewhere for your quick reference, which leads me to the next strategy.

Tip 4: Write your experience in Microsoft Word The PERT is kind of nice and it has been updated recently but the writing space is so little that you can barely see what you wrote. Create a Word file and type your experience there, then copy to PERT and submit. Remember to start with the CARL outline and filling the details as you go Here’s another related strategy.

Tip 5: Keep a tracker at work Since you have to write about all the challenges that you face and how you approach them, it’s really important that you keep track of those challenges. Create an Excel file and write your successes and challenges, what actions you took and what happened. Divide it into 3 columns, first is challenge or success, then next to it the details and then the date. This also comes in handy when you’re doing a performance review at work, when your boss asks you why you should get a bonus or promotion, you’ll have concrete examples to bring up. Now, assuming you haven’t been keeping track of what happened at work like most people and you’re drawing a blank when you’re doing your PERT, you can go to your Outlook, click on your Sent Mail and go through all the emails. Most of them will be regular communication, but you’ll probably come across a couple of cool projects that you worked on that you’ve completely forgotten about. You can put some examples in PER.

Tip 6. Get your employer to become a pre-approved Training Office Here’s an interesting fact that pretty much nobody knows about, you don’t have to work in public practice to be under PPR route. Any company, be it manufacturing, retail or software, can become a pre-approved training office and, you guessed it, if you’re in the pre-approved training office, none of the technical requirements will be required for you. This will cut out at least 70% of PER workload, you just have to fill out the easy enabling questions and you’ll get your PER done. First try to get the company you’re working for right now to convert to a PPR training office. Second, consider changing your companies. If you’re stuck at a dead end job and you’re not hitting those Level 1 and 2s, and your supervisor is not supporting you, you have to do something. Most people think this means you have to go to public practice, and going from industry to public practices means a huge pay cut, but as I said any company can be under PPR. Now instead of going door by door and asking every company what CPA route they are under, just open up Google, type your provincial CPA body name and the words “pre-approved office”. You’ll get a list of all offices that are under PRR. Throw this list to Excel and filter out all LP or associate companies, which are all public practice companies.

Tip 7. Write a lot Aim to write at least 1 full page for each example and don’t spare the details. Too often I see students writing a quick half-page example and they think they can get away with it, but it doesn’t work that way .We need a full page, 3-4 detailed examples of everything you’ve done related to that experience. Don’t spare the details, you need to storytell and paint a picture in the reader’s head of what is going on.

Questions for those who had gone through the process:

if you put level 0 for the enabling competences, could you just put "n/a" at places that you were supposed to write an essay? Because I literally am claiming that I did not develop any skills

if my enabling competence level stayed at 1 for two consecutive reports, can I just copy the essay I wrote for the previous one to the current one because nothing was improved?

There are four main types of sentences: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex. Simple sentences contain one independent clause. The best way to figure out if a sentence has more than one independent clause is to see if it has more than one subject and verb. For instance, in the sentence 'I swam and fished yesterday;' although there are two verbs, swimming and fishing, there is only one subject, I. In the sentence 'Jack and Jill went up the hill,' we have two subjects, yet just one verb. Both of these sentences would be simple sentences.

A compound sentence has two independent clauses and a coordinating conjunction . An example of a compound sentence would be: 'Jack went up the front of the hill, and Jill went up the side of the hill.' You can count the number of independent clauses by counting the number of subjects and verbs. There are two subjects: Jack and Jill, and there are two verbs: going up the front of the hill and going up the side of the hill. The two clauses are linked using a conjunction - and.

A complex sentence contains one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses that contain subordinating conjunctions . An example of a complex sentence would be: 'Jack fell down the hill because he tripped on a rock.' The independent clause is Jack falling down the hill. The subordinating conjunction gives us the reason he fell down the hill - because he tripped on a rock.

A compound-complex has two or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses. An example of a compound-complex sentence is: 'Jack fell down the hill because he tripped on a rock, and then Jill fell down the hill when she heard Jack scream.' In this sentence, we have two independent clauses with Jack and Jill being the nouns, and falling down the hill (for Jack) and falling down the hill (for Jill) being the verbs. The dependent clauses are tripping on a rock and hearing a scream.

When deciding on sentence structure, keep in mind what your audience knows about the topic. For instance, if you are introducing a new concept, idea, or character, go with a simple sentence. If you are elaborating on information you have already presented, you can go with a compound or complex sentence. When you have multiple characters, ideas, or theories your reader needs to consider simultaneously, using a compound-complex sentence will be your best choice.
