Tranfers Gantt Chart or Timeline from MS Project 2010 into a PowerPoint Presentation

For the Timeline:

• Right click in the timeline and select Copy Timeline>For Presentation from the shortcut menu.
• Paste into a PowerPoint slide.

For the Gantt chart:

• Set up the view as you wish it to show.
• Click the drop-down to the right of the Copy command on the task ribbon.
• Select "To GIF image file".
• Specify the file name and location.
• Insert the picture into the PowerPoint slide.

I'm using project 2010:

for the Gantt chart:  I do not see below for to click the drop-down to the right of the copy command on  the task ribbon.  I see the paste, cut, copy and format painter. there is not anything to select  for gift image file.  I'm in the Gantt Chart view.

• Insert the picture into the PowerPoint slide.

in Project 2003 or 2007 they were able to transfer the PM data over to Power Point and the Gantt and the timeline transferred over by using macros'.  I just cant find the macro icon in 2010 MS Project.  Please advice.  thank you,

Julie, I'm using both Project and Visio 2010.  How to I Use Visio 2010 to create a Gantt chart from Project 2010. My project file already exist with data in it.  I would like to once I have the Gantt chart created put it in my Power Point Presentation.

I see how to do a Timeline from Project but not a Gantt Chart.  a Timeline is a little different than creating a Gantt chart with the information that i already have.

We seem to be talking past one another.  The Gantt Chart view in Project shows the Gantt chart, so I am not sure why you need Visio.  Click the View tab to show the View ribbon and click the Gantt Chart icon to apply the Gantt chart view.

That will show the Gantt chart.

I don't have Visio installed to the machine I'm using right now, and I am by no means skilled in Visio.  I did find this reference to Visio 2007 - I don't know if the command is still there in 2010.

thanks Julie:  I'm creating a Power Point Presentation.  I need to put my gantt chart in the PPT as i'm presenting to show the gantt with the resources like you have it above.  Will I be able to copy this view and add it into my Power Point slide?  I just need to make this work for my PPT that I'm presenting tomorrow.  I need to make sure those readers that are unable to understand project can view this and understand my project mile stones, tasks, and resources by viewing the project Gantt Chart. as you have presented it above.

Create and open

Create and open a powerpoint presentation.

Start collaborating with these quick instructions on how to create, share, and edit presentations on your own or with your team.

To convert your Google Slides to PowerPoint, go to File > Download > Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx). Then open the file in PowerPoint. See more at Get started with Sheets .

Create a new presentation

Open PowerPoint.

Select Blank presentation , or select one of the themes.

Select More themes to view the gallery and search for more.

Add a slide

Select the slide you want your new slide to follow.

Select Home > New Slide .

Select Layout and the you type want from the drop-down.

When you save your files to the cloud, you can share and collaborate with others.

Select File > Save As .

Select a OneDrive folder and name the file.

After you save once to OneDrive, AutoSave is enabled that saves your file automatically, every few seconds, as you work.

Rename a presentation

Select the file name on the title bar.

In the menu that appears you can rename the file, select a new location to move it to, or see the version history for the file.

When you're online, AutoSave is always on and saves your changes as you work. If at any time you lose your Internet connection or turn it off, any pending changes will sync as soon as you’re back online.

At the top of your Microsoft Office apps on Windows you'll find the Search box. This powerful tool helps you look up PowerPoint commands, get Help, or search the Web.

Introduction

PowerPoint files are called presentations . Whenever you start a new project in PowerPoint, you'll need to create a new presentation , which can either be blank or from a template . You'll also need to know how to open an existing presentation .

To create a new presentation:

When beginning a new project in PowerPoint, you'll often want to start with a new blank presentation.

• A new presentation will appear.

To create a new presentation from a template:

A template is a predesigned presentation you can use to create a new slide show quickly. Templates often include custom formatting and designs , so they can save you a lot of time and effort when starting a new project.

• Click the File tab to access Backstage view , then select New .

• A preview of the template will appear, along with additional information on how the template can be used.

• A new presentation will appear with the selected template .

It's important to note that not all templates are created by Microsoft. Many are created by third-party providers and even individual users, so some templates may work better than others.

To open an existing presentation:

In addition to creating new presentations, you'll often need to open a presentation that was previously saved. To learn more about saving presentations, visit our lesson on Saving Presentations .

Most features in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, are geared toward saving and sharing documents online . This is done with OneDrive , which is an online storage space for your documents and files. If you want to use OneDrive, make sure you’re signed in to PowerPoint with your Microsoft account. Review our lesson on Understanding OneDrive to learn more.

To pin a presentation:

If you frequently work with the same presentation , you can pin it to Backstage view for easy access.

• Select the File tab to go to Backstage view , then click Open . Your Recent Presentations will appear.

Compatibility Mode

Sometimes you may need to work with presentations that were created in earlier versions of PowerPoint, like PowerPoint 2003 or PowerPoint 2000. When you open these types of presentations, they will appear in Compatibility Mode .

Compatibility Mode disables certain features, so you'll only be able to access commands found in the program that was used to create the presentation. For example, if you open a presentation created in PowerPoint 2003, you can only use tabs and commands found in PowerPoint 2003.

In the image below, you can see at the top of the window that the presentation is in Compatibility Mode. This will disable some PowerPoint 2016 features, including newer types of slide transitions.

To exit Compatibility Mode, you'll need to convert the presentation to the current version type. However, if you're collaborating with others who only have access to an earlier version of PowerPoint, it's best to leave the presentation in Compatibility Mode so the format will not change.

You can review this support page from Microsoft to learn more about which features are disabled in Compatibility Mode.

To convert a presentation:

If you want access to all PowerPoint 2016 features, you can convert the presentation to the 2016 file format.

Note that converting a file may cause some changes to the original layout of the presentation.

• The presentation will be converted to the newest file type.
• Open our practice presentation .
• Notice that the presentation opens in Compatibility Mode . Convert it to the 2016 file format. If a dialog box appears asking if you would like to close and reopen the file in order to see the new features, choose Yes .
• In Backstage view, pin a file or folder.
