Disneyland Paris: A Case Study of Glocalization Operational Strategies
Cross-cultural management has always been a popular topic in the business world, and even the cultural giant Disney has to include glocalization in its strategies to remain competitive when it comes to international markets. Glocalization is a combination of the universal and the specific, and it is a key strategy in cross-cultural management. Disneyland Paris suffered a financial crisis in its early years of operation. This paper shows how the glocalization strategies can be used by analyzing a series of measures implemented by Disneyland Paris to emerge from the crisis. To conclude, Disneyland Paris has weathered the crisis through the glocalization strategies including management changes, price reductions, cultural integration, and staff policy changes.

Disneyland® Paris Case Study on Global Strategy for International Set-up Marketing, Finance and Management 'Mickey Mouse' or an American Mouse in France
This case analyses the difficult implementation of the 4th Disneyland Park near Paris, France, a typically American concept in the tourism and leisure industries, and its necessary adaptation to the economic and cultural environment. It follows on the first 4 years of exploitation, from the opening in April 1992 until early 1996. It shows the complete revision process, as of 1993 with the beginning of the economic crisis, of forecasts, strategies, marketing policies, management patterns and even the initial financial structure of the project, up to the successful breaking-even at the end of 1995.
The case focuses on the difficulties of forecasting and serving diversified segments of clients in Europe, dealing with local institutions in the context of a project of that size, and managing a large international workforce, largely unprepared and unexperienced, in the particular French regulatory system. It also discusses the over-optimistic initial financing structure, and the subsequent restructuring. It allows for a discussion on the longer-term future of the park, and of theme parks in general in Europe, as well as for comparisons with the implementation of other such large infrastructure projects.

The paper argues that, under the globalized economy, state power is far from diminishing. I study how the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government officials in 1999 developed “competition-development” discourse and “disappearing-world-city” discourse to persuade the public to approve the unequal and non-transparent Hong Kong–Disney deal for setting up the Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL). I also examine how newspaper reports have circulated and have reinforced these two pairs of political discourses in wider popular discourse. I further reveal, in the post-colonial context of HongKong, how the HKDL project functions to accomplish decolonization tasks and to reshape Hong Kong as a consumption-based tourist spot instead of a citizen-based participatory community.

Chinese fengshui evolved from a classical tradition aimed at achieving harmony within the environment. However, case studies and fieldwork undertaken in this thesis reveal that in contemporary architecture, fengshui is often used as a Chinese localisation device in a significant departure from classical practice. This thesis analyses examples of Chinese cultural identification within transnational architecture in Hong Kong and Shanghai, during the 20th and early 21st centuries. The outcome provides architects and urban designers with a new perspective on the contemporary use of fengshui in China.

The main target market of Disneyland around the world is children.
