Hospitality Management Personal Statement Example

Sample statement.

My decision to follow a career in hospitality management has been prompted by work experience that I undertook during the last two summer holidays. I was initially undecided about my career choices and took the job, as an assistant to an entertainment manager on a cruise ship, to earn some extra cash.

I realised how lucky I was to have such an opportunity and to sail around the Mediterranean for 6 weeks, getting paid but I did not expect to enjoy it so much. The work was hard but the difference between this and the 9-5 Saturday job I have also done in retail could not be more marked. I was outside for much of the day, able to enjoy the sunshine and my work was all done with the intention of giving the people on the cruise their holiday of a lifetime.

Although some of the tasks were quite menial, being able to help put on competitions, run the children’s club and participate in the evening events was fantastic. Playing with the children and mixing with the guests at the dinner dances could not be described as work! I worked closely with the manager and was impressed at his ability to work long hours but still remain cheerful with his staff and the guests at all times. This rubbed off on me and I was surprised at how being enthusiastic and helpful was very satisfying, particularly when people made it obvious that they appreciated what I was doing.

After my first summer on the ship, I was eager to sign up for another and was pleased that they wanted me back. When I got home I started my college course doing A-levels in English, French and Business Studies and started to research university courses that would enable me to pursue a career in hospitality management. Working towards this well-defined goal has motivated me in my studies and I have obtained B grades in all three subjects in my AS levels. My immediate aim is to push at least two of these grades up to n ‘A’  in my A2 exams.

The subjects I chose to study were chosen based on my interest and aptitude and all are highly relevant to a degree in hospitality management. I have become much more fluent and confident in French as my work experience brought me into contact with French guests on the ship who were happy to let me practise. I realise the value of languages in the industry and have started an evening class to learn Spanish. Improving my cooking and presentation skills is also very important and I have combined this with helping my mother to run a cooking and baking skills class for teenage mothers in my local area. Next summer I have lined up an 8-week work placement with another cruise ship and this time I will be a catering assistant, so that will be a big challenge.

I feel that I have the motivation, academic and practical skills to gain a good degree in hospitality management and to then take up a career in the industry. My ambition is to own a hotel one day, or perhaps run my own cruises with a fleet of cruise ships.

Commitment to helping children and families, example of personal statement on gender and women's studies.

Gender and Women’s Studies is a field that I would like to pursue. Gender equality and women empowerment are things that I consider to be of great importance, especially since there’s still a gender gap even in the 21st century. I greatly admire my mother who is very supportive of me, and my many experiences in volunteer work and other group participations have shown me that women are capable of making important contributions in our society. As such, I would like to be instrumental in some way in the elimination of this gender gap.

I want to help you get admitted to graduate school in Hospitality Administration.

hospitality management personal statement template

I find great satisfaction in helping enterprising students to become leaders in regional and global hospitality and tourism professions by helping them to get accepted to graduate school. I like to think of my service as dedicated to fostering exceptional student achievement.

Hospitality and Diversity

As someone with a PHD in Social Ethics, I feel very strongly that diversity is especially important in the area of Hospitality Administration. In this field in particular, it is important to prepare people with the expertise, commitment, and skills for management and operations positions in the expanding industry that provides food, accommodations, and travel and tourism services to people of all languages and from all ethnic groups. You have made a good choice in your decision to apply to graduate school in hospitality because a wide variety of jobs and career opportunities exist within the field. Such opportunities exist in restaurants, hotels and other lodging establishments, contract food services, hospital and school food service, clubs, fast food franchises, airlines, and travel agencies.

Cultural diversity has become a major issue in the hospitality industry of the United States, in particular, representing novel opportunities, benefits and challenges for an increasingly culturally diverse workforce. It is important, therefore, that we search together for practical recommendations that might help human resource managers in hospitality to successfully deal with cultural diversity issues. Cultural diversity training modules are called for so that human resource and hospitality company training programs might better facilitate students increasing their cultural diversity awareness and sensitivity, learning about cultural differences, and developing skills for managing cultural diversity issues.

My mission in the area of Hospitality Administration is to engage students in developing the foundational knowledge, demonstrated skills and professional attitudes required for success in careers in hospitality administration: hotel operation, food service management, and meeting and event management. I also very much appreciate the way in which diversity appreciation is such a natural fit with this area of graduate study.

Hospitality Administration is rapidly becoming a major area for us in helping applicants to graduate school. When drafting your statement, we emphasize your strengths, your ethnicity, language skills, and travel experience.

We would be honored to help you gain admission to graduate school in Hospitality Administration and Management by drafting a most eloquent statement on your behalf. In addition to filling out my  Online Interview Form , send your resume/CV and/or rough draft to my email:

The Humanitarian Side of Hospitality

Catering, hotels – the hospitality industry provides people with comfort, nourishment and shelter. But what about converting that into a humanitarian career? How does that work, you might ask?

Every type of volunteer experience shows you are a motivated person who’s willing to work in the name of improving other people’s (or animals!) lives. People who need it. Working towards a solution that makes the world a better place. And employers love that. So if you’re looking for a placement that you improve your chances of getting employed or getting onto a master’s program, the world is your volunteering oyster!

But what is hospitality in humanitarian terms? Aid. And which are the best humanitarian aid organizations? The World Food Programme (WFP) is part of the U.N. system, and the largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. They reach 90 million people, in 80 countries! To apply, start here: http://i-recruitment.wfp.org/olcv/

Okay, so then there’s the Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE). It’s dedicated to fighting global poverty, and has supported almost 1000 poverty-fighting development and humanitarian aid projects! To search for a career, go right here: http://www.care.org/careers

Action Against Hunger (AAH) is a global humanitarian organization committed to ending world hunger. In 2012, it provided 550,000 small farmers with tools and treated 42,000 malnourished children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Now that’s some hospitality! Check ‘em out: https://careers.actionagainsthunger.org/

For something a little different, the Hospitality Club partners and works with NGOs to provide a platform where travelers and people interested in doing good work can meet and collaborate. Find out more at http://ngos.hospitalityclub.org/ .

Need a job right now? The organization CoRSU has a duty station in Uganda and an opening for a Catering Officer at the time of writing. You can apply for this job if you have a simple diploma in catering, and you’ll be in charge of the preparation of meals for children and people with disabilities, among other duties. See here for more details: http://www.uganda.hotkenyanjobs.com/catering-officer-hospitality-ngo-jobs-corsu/

When you have a master’s degree, you’re more attractive to employers, whether in your own country or overseas. Here are some interesting programs that will get you abroad doing good work ASAP.

With events management, you could go into the humanitarian events field. The M.Sc. in Event Management at the HTL International School of Hospitality, Tourism and Languages provides you with 1 year of intensive training, language classes and an internship at one of the universities partner companies. Courses include strategic management and operational management. This program costs 3200 EUR per year.

The Master of Hospitality Management & Tourism at the same institution also involves foreign language training and an internship program at a local company. This time, the courses involved include hospitality management, tourism management and customer service and communication skills. This 9-month course costs 3200 EUR per year. Learning another language is so valuable in the humanitarian field, as are management skills.

Instead of the usual good experiences and deep-rooted interests that lead many students to follow a certain academic path, a number of bad, sometimes terrible experiences have led me to want to follow a career in hospitality.

As a member of a successful school and college orchestra, I had the good fortune to travel around the UK and Europe, taking part in competitions and concerts. These often required overnight stays in hotels, and long hours spent in concert halls and theatres. Sadly, I can count the number of excellent experiences on one hand, whereas the bad experiences are numerous. It was these experiences that first ignited my interest in the hospitality and tourism industry, and this interest was further enhanced by the subsequent courses I took at college.

I could see how the little things made a big difference, and how good hospitality relied on good management, budgeting and service. To me, hospitality is not just serving breakfast on time, or accommodating requests from customers at the drop of a hat. It is about managing and training staff, ensuring the budget is spent in the right places and minimising the potential for mistakes. These are key factors to running a successful hospitality business in this ever-growing industry.

My part-time job at a local hotel and restaurant further reinforced this belief. I took on many roles, including cleaning, waitressing and helping out on reception, and this enabled me to see how the business worked from a number of angles. I found a major problem to be that senior staff were not aware of the academic and business side to hospitality, and this in turn led to inadequate service. Simple things like ensuring enough staff were available to cover demand for services (for example, bar tending or waitressing) or ensuring training was provided and encouraged for staff to grow and develop seemed to fall by the wayside on occasion. I have already deduced that this is not acceptable when trying to run a successful hospitality business, but I want to go further and learn how to rectify issues like these, and studying hospitality will help me to discover that.

I have been able to secure holiday employment at this hotel and restaurant, and hope to put what I learn at university into action during these periods. I also believe this will aid my learning, as I will be able to see and experience what I am studying, and use this to enhance my work at university.

I would like to pursue a career in hotel management, and my dream is to eventually own my own hotel. While this may seem a pipe dream, it is one I will continue to aim for, hopefully bolstered by a degree in this subject.

Your personal statement is vital in ensuring you get the university place you want. Don’t take a chance with it. Secure your university place today!

Personal statement for International Tourism and Hospitality Management

Globalisation has exposed hospitality to be more than just an industry but equally a business concept. Businesses are now realising that they do not necessarily have to be playing in the hospitality industry for them to integrate the concept of hospitality into their service offerings. In my over 6 years of working in the hospitality industry, I have carefully studied   innovative ways to exceed customer expectations, which in my opinion will always be a core aspect of business that other industries will always look up to the hospitality and tourism industry to replicate their efforts.

To say that I have enjoyed my experience working in this industry will be an understatement, the experience, exposure, network, and growth opportunities is second to none, and I am committed to building a successful career in this industry. I began my career in the hospitality industry as a Housekeeping Self-Checker for xxx in xxx and have successfully worked my way up the corporate ladder. However, my growth has been stunted due to my lack of a corresponding academic degree in hospitality management. I have had to watch my colleagues with similar experiences advance past me in the workplace due to their academic degrees, so I am committed to giving myself an improved chance for growth through this degree. My first degree was in xxx (bachelor’s degree), and the learning experience helped me to build the skills and general business knowledge that made my initial transition into hospitality easy. Skills like accounting, reporting, critical thinking, continual learning, organising, interpersonal communication, team collaboration, and adaptability which I developed during my undergraduate study all played key roles in my transition into the hospitality industry. Thus far, I have gained exposure to important responsibilities and roles in the hospitality sector including housekeeping department, purchasing and receiving department and in-room dining, and I am interested in back-up my experience with an academic study to give me better opportunities in the corporate world.

After going through the outline for this program; including the modules, fees, facilities, and faculty staff, and seeing how Robert Gordon University balances tourism and hospitality studies into one program, I have concluded that studying here will be a wise decision for me. Firstly, this university has built a reputation for producing highly sought after graduates and that tells a lot about the years of consistently maintaining the standard of its programs and faculties, and I admire that. Secondly, Robert Gordon University ranks among the top three universities in Scotland by the National Student Survey for student satisfaction. Thirdly, the tuition and living expenses in Scotland are quite affordable compared to the quality of learning that I am going to achieve. More so, the accreditation of this program by the Institute of Hospitality and the Tourism Management Institute further boosted my confidence to settle for this program.

I already work and live in one of the most sought after tourist locations in the world with a strong hospitality industry: this degree will have an immediate impact on my career considering the wide reach of this industry in xxx, and the ease to advance to higher professional levels that will enable me to have a comfortable life. I look forward to utilising this course module to develop insight about inner-workings and gain innovative ideas to improve my productivity in the hospitality industry. In the future, I see myself as one of the most influential hospitality personalities; I have a vision of owning a Hotel Management company in xxx to enhance the hospitality system of the country, by delivering top notch and branded personalised service in the industry.

I have compared University of Bedfordshire with all the alternatives and have decided this is where I would like to study. This decision is due to the university’s good reputation in teaching, research and with their industry links. University of Bedfordshire is ranked ‘Silver’ in TEF ranking. LLC Articles of Organization + Template: The Need to Know

By Homebase Team

a laptop computer sitting on top of a wooden desk

Let us take a wild guess: you started a small business with dreams of being your own boss, making your own rules, and letting your innovation flag fly. With stars in your eyes and self-doubt under your boot soles, you set forth on the exciting path to entrepreneurship.

But then you’re immediately hit with a reality check—and mountains of confusing paperwork.

If the thought of setting up a Limited Liability Company (LLC) and filing articles of organization for your small business feels like doing a scavenger hunt in the dark, you’re in good company. In fact, you may be the human embodiment of the shrug emoji at just the mention of an LLC and articles of organization. What even are they? And why do you need them?

In this handy guide, we’ll deepdive into LLC articles of organization, how to write and submit them, and how to stay compliant regardless of what state you live in.

Bonus: We’re throwing in a free articles of organization template to help simplify the process.

Are you ready to learn all about the thrilling world of LLC articles of organization? If the answer is an enthusiastic “Yep!”—or even a grudging “I guess”—then let’s journey onward!

What is an article of organization for an LLC?

First off, let’s explain what an LLC is. The Internal Revenue Services (IRS) defines an LLC as “a business structure allowed by state statute. Each state may use different regulations, you should check with your state if you are interested in starting an LLC.”

Still unclear? Basically, an LLC protects the assets of its members—you, the small business owner—from lawsuits and creditors concerned with the company’s business debts. LLCs combine the characteristics of a corporation with those of a partnership or sole proprietorship.

Now, what in the world is an LLC article of organization? It’s a formal legal document used to establish an LLC and filed within your business’s state .

Articles of organization provide your state government with required information like your business name, registered agent, purpose, and management structure to register your business as an LLC. Think of it as your business’s birth certificate when you introduce it to the world. Without it, your LLC doesn’t actually exist in a legal sense.

And don’t forget, your state will typically charge a fee ranging from $50–$200 when filing articles of organization, and requirements and terminology will vary from state to state.

Start by going to your state’s Office of the Secretary of State website (example: ) and finding out if articles of organization are alternatively referred to as a , or so you can easily find your document.

What’s the difference between articles of organization and articles of incorporation?

Imagine you’re throwing a welcome party for your small business . Think of articles of organization and articles of incorporation as the invitations you send out to your personal and professional network—aka the state government.

The style of party you throw relates to the type of business you’re starting: articles of organization for an LLC are like a casual backyard BBQ, while articles of incorporation are more like a swanky black-tie gala when you form a corporation.

Here’s a breakdown of both:

Articles of organization

Typically include the LLC’s name, its purpose, its duration (if not perpetual), the names and addresses of its members (or owners), and other essential information regarding the structure and operation of the LLC.

  • Flexibility: LLCs offer more flexibility in terms of management and taxation. You can choose to be taxed as a partnership or a corporation, depending on what suits your business best.
  • Limited liability: Members typically aren’t liable for the debts and obligations of the LLC, protecting your personal assets.
  • Simplicity: Formation and ongoing compliance requirements are usually less formal compared to corporations, making it easier for small businesses.
  • Self-employment taxes: Members may be subject to self-employment taxes on their entire share of profits.
  • Investor limitations: It may be more challenging to attract investors since LLCs can’t issue stock.

Articles of incorporation

Typically include details like the corporation’s name, its purpose, the number and types of stock shares it’s authorized to issue, and the names and addresses of its initial directors.

  • Access to capital: Corporations can issue stock, making it easier to attract investors and raise capital for growth.
  • Limited liability: Like with articles of organization, shareholders aren’t liable for the debts and obligations of the corporation, which protects personal assets.
  • Perpetual existence: Corporations can continue indefinitely, regardless of changes in ownership or management.
  • Double taxation: The corporation has to pay taxes on its profits, and then shareholders pay taxes on dividends received.
  • Formal requirements: Corporations have more formalities and compliance requirements like holding regular meetings, maintaining corporate records, and filing annual reports.
  • Complexity: Formation and ongoing management can be more complex and costly compared to LLCs, especially for smaller businesses.

Ultimately, deciding between articles of organization and articles of incorporation depends on the nature of your business, your growth plans, and taxation considerations .

Stay tuned for your free articles of organization template at the end of this article.

How do you write articles of organization?

Now it’s time to put pen to paper—or, in most cases, fingertips to keyboard—and get writing. If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry. We got you.

Follow this step-by-step guide on how to write articles of organization for your LLC. To make life even breezier, check out our free article of organization template . Again, make sure you’re following the specific requirements of your state (we can’t stress this enough).

1. Your business name

Selecting a name for your small business may seem like the fun part, but it’s vital you do it properly by:

  • Complying with your state’s specific regulations. For example, in Oklahoma you can abbreviate LLC at the end of your business name, while in Kentucky you must spell it out (Limited Liability Company).
  • Choosing a unique name that not only captures your brand and appeals to your target audience, but also hasn’t already been registered in your state. Do a business name search to check for availability.

2. The mailing address

This will be your principal place of business and will require you to register a street address rather than just a P.O. box.

3. Name the registered agent

The registered agent is the designated person or entity authorized to accept delivery of legal documents on behalf of the LLC, including tax forms, court documents, and other official state correspondence. This person can be a member of the LLC, or someone you hire through a professional registered agent service.

Some states require registered agents to acknowledge their appointment with a signed statement of acceptance, so make sure you know for sure if you need one.

4. Date of formation and duration of LLC

This date is usually determined when your articles of organization are filed and approved by your state, and officially establishes your business. Some states require you to include how long you plan to keep your LLC, but you can usually just label the duration as perpetual, meaning it will exist until you dissolve it.

5. Management structure

Who will manage your LLC: members or managers?

  • For member-managed LLCs, members (business owners) are responsible for all day-to-day operations like opening bank accounts and supervising employees.
  • For manager-managed LLCs, members appoint or hire a manager to run the business.

The right structure for your business will depend on factors like the size of your LLC, the availability of your members, how much control you’d prefer, and your privacy concerns.

Some states require the inclusion of each LLC member’s name and address.

6. Purpose of company

This section is for stating your business’s main objective, and the level of detail you’re required to include will depend on your state. Your statement of purpose can range from a broad “to conduct any and all lawful business” to something much more specific like “to engage in the business of floral design, retail, and services.”

7. Liability

This section provides a statement that confirms members and managers are not personally liable for debts and obligations of your small business. In most states, your personal assets like your house or car can’t be used to cover your business’s debts.

8. Signatures

Still with us? Congratulations—you’ve made it to the final step! It’s now time to sign, seal, and deliver your articles of organization. All you need to do is ensure all organizing members and/or authorized representatives sign the document, either by hand or digitally through a secure e-signature software.

Are the requirements for articles of organization the same in each state?

Long story short: No, the requirements for articles of organization are not the same in each state. But worry not—it’s relatively simple to figure out exactly what your article of organization needs to comply with state regulations.

Visit the Secretary of State website for your state and download the articles of organization form. You’ll also find info on how to file the form, whether you can file online, and the cost of filing. There may be additional requirements specific to your state too, so make sure you read the instructions carefully.

How to file articles of organization.

Once you’ve gathered all relevant info and checked out the specific website for your state, you’ll know whether you can submit your articles of organization to the Secretary of State office via snail mail or online.

Once approved, you’ll receive an official confirmation, which will either be a Certificate of Organization or your returned forms with a stamp that includes the filing number and date.

Articles of organization template FAQS.

Do i need an attorney to file articles of organization.

You don’t need an attorney to file articles of organization. Taking a DIY approach is  totally doable, especially with this guide in your back pocket. However, consulting legal  counsel licensed in your state could be super useful if you want to ensure you’re doing  everything right and staying compliant.

Is the term articles of organization the same as an LLC?

The term articles of organization is not the same as an LLC. Articles of organization are  the legal documents you file with your state government that outline the basic structure  and operation of your LLC. You need to file articles of organization to officially establish  your LLC, which stands for Limited Liability Corporation, a form of business organization.

Does an LLC need articles of organization?

Yes, your LLC needs articles of organization to become official according to state laws.  They give your business legal recognition and outline its structure—like a blueprint for  your LLC! Without articles of organization, you don’t have a legally recognized LLC.

Should I use a template for my articles of organization?

The real question is: Why wouldn’t you use a template for your articles of organization? Using a template is a great place to start, and will help simplify the process overall, but always make sure to check your local state requirements to be on the safe side.

Hospitality management personal statement example 2.

The experience I gained while travelling and staying in various hotels positively affected my final decision to choose the hospitality business as the industry to realize myself and work in.

Since my childhood I have had an opportunity to develop myself both physically and intellectually. I am good at swimming and even won 3 city competitions. I am also keen on dancing where the 3rd place and the audience prize at the belly dance contest “Miss Oriental 2007” was my latest achievement.

These skills help me to be in good shape because any employee of the hotel is its face and should look impeccably. Sport gives birth to a vast array of qualities such as aspiration to leadership and victory, diligence, firmness, persistence, self-confidence and motivation and possessing these traits can lead to management.

Since my elementary school I have always wanted to take the leading position everywhere. I have tried to take part in all school events, working in the school's activity and participating in concerts, Russian, German, English and Latvian olympiads and sport competitions.

I have been a member of the Drama Club, called 'Reveranss', for 5 years, having played in many performances, and as a consequence I have a broad outlook and an open mind. Besides, it is really significant for me to help to raise my school's rating.

You might think that everything is easily achievable for me. However, reaching any target is a toil. Actually, sometimes I did not even sleep for nights to meet deadlines.

For instance, last year I was working over my project about Saint-Petersburg for a week alone, but it was worth it and I won a 10-day excursion to this amazing city. Apart from that, I have always taken a keen interest in learning languages and studying new topics.

As a result, the language is not a setback for me due to school's rigorous syllabus in teaching English. In addition, I am very punctual. Punctuality is a relevant quality that every hotel manager needs. Being late means disrespect and is absolutely unacceptable in the sphere of hospitality.

When I ask my friends and acquaintances to say something about me, they describe me as a sociable, industrious, creative, energetic and optimistic person, with a good sense of humor. I appreciate meeting new people. I can listen to them and be tolerant and tactful.

What is more, I have always been fond of studying business, economics and marketing as to understand the reasons of the development in different countries and to become acquainted with the methods of achieving the ideal structure and analyzing the economical situation in order to find a right way to success.

I personally believe that your university will assist me to successfully reach my objective to become a hotel manager. I want to make my contribution into this field. I have recently been to England and this journey helped me to make my choice of the United Kingdom as the place for studying as I consider the UK to be the place where I can obtain a high-quality education, and afterwards successfully apply my knowledge to practical work.

I enjoy self-education and I believe that this process will greatly benefit under the supervision of leading experts. Due to all the above mentioned, I am fully confident of the fact that entering your university will be the right step. Then may be one day the poor 3-star Italian hotel I stayed at will become a magnificent 5-star one.
