Rise of Empire Tips: Cheats & Guide to Build a Mighty City

Image of Luciano

Rise of Empire: Ice and Fire is an extremely complex mobile strategy game with tons of features that can be pretty confusing at first. But we’re here to help with some Rise of Empire tips and cheats in our complete strategy guide for the game.

Although those who have played similar strategy games in the past will find this somewhat familiar, there are tens of different types of buildings that work together in this game, as well as monsters and features that are not easily accessible. But you need to know them all in order to succeed, and we’re here to help you with that.

From help to beginners to more advanced strategy, we have it all for you in today’s article. So let’s not waste any time and instead let’s check out below some Rise of Empire tips and tricks!

Follow the tasks when it comes to buildings When you’re starting playing the game, even if you are familiar with mobile strategy games, you will find yourself overwhelmed with the sheer number of buildings in this game.

You will eventually get used to this after playing for some hours, but early on it’s a good idea to build everything you can in the order recommended by the game’s tasks. There are certain features in the game that will only be unlocked once you reach a certain Castle level, so just follow the recommendations early on to make sure you progress as you should.

Once you have built everything and have time, resources and workers to spare, don’t forget to build everything that you can from the Build Menu.

Focus on leveling up your Castle ASAP Your main goal early on is to get your Castle to the highest possible level as soon as possible. My recommendation is to try and get your castle to level 10 ASAP, and only afterwards spend more time catching up with the upgrade of the buildings.

You will not be able to keep everything at level 1 while upgrading your castle anyway, but don’t waste too much time getting all the other buildings to their maximum level before getting the Castle’s level up. The only other buildings that you should level up during this time even if they’re not required for your Castle’s level are the troop-producing ones.

Upgrade the important buildings first Once you reach a decent Castle level early on (8-10), start catching up with all the other buildings. Work on increasing your population and make sure that all your resource-producing buildings are at the highest possible level, and the storage too.

In the long run, you will get more resources through gathering from the world map instead of the buildings inside your Kingdom, but early on those resources will be extremely useful. So make sure you’re producing enough.

All the other buildings are not as important early on, so you should only upgrade them after you have your Castle to level 10, your houses, resource buildings and troop producing units to a level as high as possible.

What faction to choose? Once you reach Castle level 6, you have to choose your class: Farmer, Raider or Trader. These are all pretty much self-explanatory from the title, each focusing on a different aspect in the game. I recommend choosing the farmer class because it will boost your productivity early on and make it easier for you to progress.

Once you reach Castle level 10, you are allowed to change your Faction / Class for free, and that is when I suggest you switch to Raider, because this is the most fun way to play the game and you can definitely use those attack and troop boosts.

Plan your kingdom’s layout early on I am not sure if you will even be able to move buildings in your kingdom, but it appears you are not: buildings will stay where you place them, so try to plan things out a bit from the beginning.

You will need roads connected to every building in order for it to work, so start building those in advance to plan out your Kingdom’s design. I didn’t know about this and I didn’t do it and my kingdom looks like a hot mess.

Even more, I recommend creating areas based on the type of buildings you have there in order to keep yourself sane and things easier to manage: have a spot for resources (like Storage, Coal Burners, Houses and such), one for the Military area, one for the defense area and so on. This makes it easier to navigate through your kingdom and keep everything in check.

Train troops constantly When you start playing the game, you can only train a bunch of troops at once, which means that you should be training, collecting and training again as often as possible. You will need large armies eventually and focusing on constantly training troops early on will help tremendously.

Level up your Troop Training buildings ASAP in order to be able to train more and get those Stables as soon as possible also – this way, you will build a solid army soon and you’ll be able to take on the difficult monsters on the map, as well as gather more resources at once.

Also, once you unlock the Military University, research the troop upgrade branches in the Institute and upgrade your existing troops into higher tier ones for the added bonuses. The good thing about this building is that it can work in parallel with the regular troop training, so you have no reasons not to do this constantly in order to keep your army in top shape.

When it comes to building your armies, in most cases using the higher tier units is better than using more of the lower tier ones. Just check out the general strength of your army in different scenarios and always use the option that gives you the highest power.

Keep the Tavern and Factories Stocked Up Some types of buildings need to be stocked up constantly in order to work. For example, the Tavern is extremely important and has to always be stocked up: if it is not, you start losing population.

So make sure that whenever you have workers available, you restock these buildings to make sure that your kingdom will operate smoothly at all times.

Join a solid, active alliance Being part of a large, active alliance is extremely important. You need a lot of active members not only to help you with your building and troop upgrades, but especially for the Alliance bonuses in Tech and rallies.

Being part of an alliance is vital, so spend your time finding the right one – then move close to their territory to fully take advantage of all the boosts and goodies they offer. The game is a lot easier and progress is much faster if you have a good alliance.

Keep an eye on all tasks If there are still too many buildings and things to do for you to keep track of (and there are!) you can always tap the arrow in the middle left side of the screen. You can see a bunch of potential tasks and information about your kingdom there. Don’t forget to scroll down and make sure that everything’s taken care of.

That area doesn’t cover EVERYTHING in your kingdom, so you will still have to double check all structures and make sure that everything’s running smoothly, but it offers some shortcuts and makes your life easier, especially in the early stages of the game, so make sure to take advantage of it!

Constantly fight monsters on the map There are all sorts of monsters and similar enemies that you can fight on the map and you should do that constantly and as often as possible.

Each type of monster will give you a different resource, so choose them based on your needs. Try to always fight the highest level monster you can defeat without suffering heavy injuries, but have in mind that you will never have your troops killed when fighting regular monsters.

Once you get to a high enough levels, start working with your allies on defeating the more important threats on the map, like the Undead Giants for massive rewards.

When away, gather resources Make sure that whenever you leave the game for a longer period of time, you have all your armies out in the world gathering resources.

When gathering, make sure that you use as many troops with a higher load as possible. When at the same level, Cavalry units have the highest load, followed by Melee troops, while Archers can carry the least amount of resources.

Use your speed boosts early on You will gain a ton of various 1 minute speed boosts early on. Make sure to use them as soon as possible, as long as you have resources to build other things in the game.

The upgrade timers will soon increase a lot, making these small boosts pretty much worthless later on in the game. So put them to good work when they matter and you will progress much faster than those who hoard these items.

Research constantly (and what to research) As if there weren’t enough things to focus on in Rise of Empire, the research options that you have in the game are pretty much insane too, with a ton of potential things to research.

Researching new technologies is expensive and sometimes confusing, as you have multiple buildings that can do the same type of research.

Either way, you should always research and while early on I would recommend to simply follow the route recommended by the game (which seems to focus on the Rapid Production Tree), eventually you will have to make some decisions on your own.

The most important research apart from what the game recommends, early on in your adventure, is the Basic Combat Skill tree where you should get to the Troop Promotion ASAP in order to be able to upgrade your lower tier troops into better ones.

The specific troop training tier is extremely expensive and only becomes important later on in the game when fighting is more present that resource gathering and building improvements, so don’t rush to spend your resources there. Instead, always look at the instant benefits that you get from research and focus on those projects.

Station Heroes & Recruit more There are tons of heroes available in the game and even though most of them are pretty much useless, you will still need a bunch of them in order to improve your Kingdom and get all sorts of boosts.

An interesting mechanic in Rise of Empire: Ice and Fire is the Station Heroes feature that you have in the Town Hall. This basically means that you can use some of your heroes to station in the said Town Hall and give you various bonuses.

Initially, you will have more Production based heroes available and you should focus on those in order to boost your production, but later on in the game the Military ones become more important as long as you have some good ones.

Remember that even the stationed heroes can benefit from additional skills that they unlock, so the important ones should be leveled up as well in order to get their more advanced skills.

Focus on Developing your top combat heroes However, I would recommend focusing most of your energy and resources on your top Combat Heroes. You will eventually need a large number of combat-oriented ones in order to lead your huge armies and having them skilled up to the maximum will make fighting a lot easier.

The best combat heroes are the rarest: Orange first, Purple second and Blue afterwards. The Blue and Green heroes are not extremely useful in the long run, so always focus on training your rarest heroes first as you will get more bonuses from them.

Army composition matters When setting up your armies (or Legions, as they are called in the game), make sure that you do it right as troop composition matters.

Each of the spots that you can fill in the army corresponds to a row in battle, and you should always have infantry first, Cavalry second and Archers at the back. This gives you the biggest general bonuses in most combat situations.

Depending on the type of commanders you have, you might sometimes want to go with a single unit legion (like three infantries), so always adapt to the situation.

An example of a situation where you might have to change your generic battle setup is when gathering resources: leave archers out of the army in order to be able to gather more resources in one go!

These would be our Rise of Empire tips and tricks. If you have some additional suggestions to make, don’t hesitate to let us know by sharing your comments below.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

So you just started your new city in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire, and would like to find the best beginner tips and tricks to get started on the right track? If so, then you have to look no further, as you’ve arrived at the beginner’s guide that will teach you everything you need to know to have a good beginning in this mobile strategy game.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

Read on to learn about the basics of Rise of Empires, as well as some general pointers on how to start the development of your cities.

Basic Base Building and Development

The building mechanics in this game are pretty straightforward: You choose the structures you want to construct from the “Build” menu, and then you choose a viable location to place the buildings in question. We really like this type of building system, which operates on a grid, since it lets us design the layouts of our cities to suit our own preferences, instead of having predefined locations for every single building, so that all cities can eventually look wildly different to each other.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

As you’d expect from a game in this genre, you can find a wide variety of buildings in Rise of Empires, each with their own functions. And while building new structures is as straightforward as choosing a location and waiting for the timer to count down, there are some factors you need to consider when choosing how to prioritize your development.

We’ll talk about your building priorities in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire further down, but for now, you just need to know that, aside from constructing new structures using the method mentioned above, you can also upgrade these structures after they’re built, simply by clicking on them and then on “Upgrade”. The benefits from upgrading buildings vary according to the structure, though they usually increase the structures’ production rates, in the case of resource buildings, or grant access to more features, in the case of military and research structures.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

One important thing that you should know about the building mechanic is that, initially, you’re limited to a very small territory. Luckily, you can expand the borders of your territory by completing development milestones such as the main chapter quests. You can check the conditions for unlocking more territory by clicking on the locks at any time.

Population Growth and Resource Assignment

Now, when it comes to actually develop your town, Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire has a very important metric that you need to consider at all times: Population.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

In short, most of your progress in this game is limited by your population, since you need to always reach a certain number of inhabitants in your town in order to upgrade your Castle. And considering that the maximum level of your buildings, as well as your access to new and better structures, are limited by the level of your Castle, growing your population should be one of your main concerns.

In order to grow your population, you first need to have enough space to accommodate new inhabitants, which relies mostly on the number and levels of your houses. Building new houses, as well as upgrading the ones you currently have, will bump up your population limit. However, increasing your population limit is not enough to actually make your population grow; that’s what the Tavern is for.

In order to get new citizens, you need to attract them by keeping your Tavern stocked with both Ale and Food. As long as you have these resources in stock, as well as space for new citizens, your population will grow. Keep in mind, however, that these resources are not allocated automatically to the Tavern, and in order to restock this facility, you must click on it and then on the “Transport” button.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

The Tavern’s Ale and Food are drained rapidly whenever your population is growing. However, this consumption will slow down once you reach your current population limit. Regardless, try to always keep this building stocked in order to maintain and grow your population.

Putting Your Army to Good Use

Despite a good chunk of your resource generation coming from Farms, Quarries, Lumber Yards, and other production structures that you can build and upgrade, you can boost your production significantly by using your armies.

Despite their looks, fighting is not the only thing your troops are good for. Particularly, your army is a valuable asset for the development of your city, since they can be sent to the world map to collect resources, therefore providing a significant boost to your resource generation.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

The only caveat of sending your troops to gather is that you have to do it manually every time. That is, send them out, wait for them to get back, and then send them out again. It’s your discipline and diligence with this process that will give you the extra push necessary to develop your town quicker than other players. Alternatively, you could play Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire on PC with BlueStacks , and use the Macro Recorder to easily automate this process with the press of a button.

Chapter Quests and Their Importance

Games in the genres have a tendency of being quite extensive, to the point where it’s easy to lose track of what you’re supposed to be doing at any given moment. Luckily, you always have the chapter quests to keep you on the right track.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

You can find the chapter quests at all times on the bottom left of the screen, giving you a list of objectives that you can currently complete. And for each of these that you fulfill, you’ll progressively gain access to new features, as well as a variety of rewards in the form of resources, experience, and much more.

Beginner’s Guide for Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire - All You Need to Know to Get a Good Start

When at a loss of what to do, always check out the chapter quests and complete them whenever possible.

There’s much more to learn when it comes to grasping the ins and outs of Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire. However, with the basic tips and information we’ve shared in the beginner’s guide, you have most of what you need to get a good start.

Rise of Castles Guide: 25 Beginner Tips and Tricks

Our beginner’s guide to Rise of Castles includes tips, tricks, and strategies to help you get started and develop a powerful kingdom rapidly.

Rise of Castles Ice and Fire tips and tricks for beginners

There are so many things to do in Rise of Castles: Ice and Fire and it’s not always clear what the best course of action is. And to be honest, the game itself does not provide much guidance. I started playing this game back in 2019 and I’ve seen so many changes over the years that it can be intimidating for new players.

I mean the game is still quite fun even now in 2024 but it has become more complex over time and there is still no in-depth tutorial to help you get started, other than the same little frustrating hand that you cannot skip until you reach chapter 3 or so. Long story short, you’ll be on your own for the most part.

However, don’t let that discourage you because I’ve compiled a list of 25 beginner tips and tricks to help you get started in Rise of Castles . These are things I wish I had known when I first started playing the game. So let’s get started!

1. Determine your playstyle: pick the right class

There are four classes in Rise of Castles : Raider, Farmer, Craftsman, and Trader. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses, and some might advise you to start with the Rider class because of its high mobility and combat power.

But a better strategy would be to start with the Farmer class because it provides more resources, which are essential for city development. And once you get enough resources or reach a high enough level, you can switch to the Raider class, if that suits your playstyle better.

pick the right ROE class

2. Change your name and your avatar

After starting the game, you will be assigned a random name, which is usually something like “Lord01c34j”. Not only is this name hard to pronounce and remember, but it also makes you look like a newbie.

Changing the name is free and it’s one of the first things you should do when starting the Rise of Castles game. To do that, while inside your castle, tap the menu icon on the right side of your screen, and after that the three dots icon.

rise of empires profile page

Next, tap the “Lord info” icon (you will notice a bouncing red bubble anyway), and at the top on the right side of your default avatar, you have your random name. Next to it, there’s a small pen icon. Tap it and type in your new name. When you’re done, hit the green button that says “Rename”.

Keep in mind that only the first rename is free, and after that, each subsequent rename will cost you 2000 Diamonds. So, choose your new name wisely!

Your avatar is just as important as your name because it’s the first thing other players will see when they inspect your castle. There are two or three default avatars that the game automatically assigns to you, so looking the same as other players make you look like a newbie as well.

Changing the avatar is a premium feature (it was free in the early versions of the game). After purchasing the “Be yourself!” pack, you will be able to change your avatar once every 24 hours. However, your photo needs to be approved by the game’s moderators before it can be changed, and sometimes it can take up to 1 hour.

The good thing about this premium pack is that it’s very cheap, around $1, and besides the avatar change, you will also get some cool small bonuses like 1000 diamonds, some speed-ups, food, and gold. A great deal for a low price!

3. Join a friendly Alliance and be active

collecting ROE Alliance salary

When you start the game, you will be prompted to join or create an alliance . In case you don’t know, an alliance is a group of players that help each other out, usually with resources, information, and protection. It’s highly recommended that you join one as soon as possible because it will make your life in the game much easier.

You can find a list of all the available alliances by tapping the menu icon, located on the right side of your screen, and then the “Alliance” icon (it looks like a flag with one star, see the screenshot above). There, you will see a list of all those available to you in the game, and you can join one by tapping the “Apply” button.

In that list, you should consider joining the ones with the highest gift level (it’s represented by a small gift box icon), as you’ll get better rewards for your contribution. The gift level for new states can range anywhere between 0 to 4.

4. Learn the Map and its features

The Rise of Empires Map Zones

Learning the map and every single feature it has, is crucial for your success in this game. You need to know where to find different types of resources, and also different types of terrains, or how to bookmark a location.

For instance, instead of waiting time searching a certain level of Marauders or Savage Giants on your map, you could easily find them within your area, by using its search feature.

5. Explore and gather resources overnight

Sending your Cavalry troops (more details on why Cavalry is the best troop type for gathering below) resources overnight is the best way to get a lot of resources quickly. Additionally, if you can create level 10 resource tiles , you will be able to get even more resources.

Similarly, you should also send any workers you have available (that are not busy constructing something else) to explore the map. They will reward you with resources, gold, and sometimes even diamonds.

6. Prioritize Iron

Iron is the most important resource in Rise of Castles , and you should prioritize it over everything else. The reason is that iron is used for training troops, and other military buildings and is also the hardest resource to find. The rewards from quests and events, that contain iron as a prize, are also usually much lower than the other resources.

7. Trade your Ale

From the early beginning of the game, you will have a lot of “Ale” (a type of resource). You should trade it in the Trade House building for gold, resources, and other useful items. And while you do it, always look for items with the biggest discount.

The more you upgrade the Trading House, the more items you will be able to see available for trading and it will also reduce the delay at which you can trade again.

8. Starve your Tavern

Once you have upgraded to a specific level and you need to stock up on your Food and Ale, you should “Starve your Tavern”. What that means is to stop supplying it with Food and Ale completely. The production of your buildings will not be affected as it doesn’t need a constant supply of Food and Ale.

Once you have the desired amount, you can start supplying your Tavern again to increase the Population number and upgrade your Castle to the next level.

9. Clean your town’s area and hit the gold horn

the gold horn gold bonus

If you want to get some extra gold, resources, and diamonds, you should clean your town’s area from bandits. They are located in random locations inside your town and you can defeat them by simply tapping once on them. Shortly after that, your Dragon will come and shoot a fireball at them and you’ll automatically receive a small number of resources or a few diamonds.

Another quick way to get gold in Rise of Castles is by hitting the gold horn situated at the left-side edge of your town’s wall. All you need to do is to click the little play icon, wait a few seconds, and be rewarded in gold. The reward can range anywhere from 500 to 250,000 gold.

10. Take part in as many events as possible

Rise of Castles is a very event-driven game, which means that there are constantly events going on, giving you the chance to win all sorts of rewards. The most common events are the Hourly Challenge and the Clash of Province .

But there are other events as well, and you can access them all by tapping on the “Events” button on the right side of your screen. Join these events as often as you can and win rewards to help you develop your city faster.

11. Do Province Quests and level up your Class

Province quests are a great way to increase your resource production and improve your army’s strength. Once you have built the Class Hall building and chosen your class, you can participate in Province quests by tapping the building and next, the “Province Quests” icon.

12. Focus on one Legion at a time

You should focus on one Legion at a time and upgrade it to the maximum level before moving on to the next one. Is worth nothing to have 2 or 3 mediocre legions when you can have one really powerful, one that can take down more powerful enemies. The most important legion, and the one you should focus on first, is your Class Legion.

Once you have maximized the “Class Legion Research” tech, which allows you to have 3 heroes in this legion, you can move on to researching the “Legion 1” and so on.

The same advice goes for your Class Legion’s heroes as well. Focus first on leveling up and upgrading the skills of your best hero combination for your Class Legion, as much as possible.

13. Complete daily tasks and other quests

Daily tasks are a great way to earn extra rewards, and they usually require you to do things that you would do anyway, such as train troops, gather resources, defeat Marauders, research new techs, or upgrade buildings.

Your Daily Tasks are located right above the chat bar while inside your Castle. Additionally, you should look in the Benefits Center (while in the castle view, tap the red chest icon above the events) as there are always new quests and challenges to be completed with great rewards.

14. Prioritize legendary heroes

The heroes in Rise of Castles are classified into 4 colors: green, blue, purple, and orange. Green ones are the weakest, while orange ones are the strongest, also known as “Legendary Heroes”.

When you first start the game, you will be given only one blue color hero. Since these heroes are not the wisest choice for battle, you should save your Hero Exp items and the Wisdom Medals for Legendary Heroes. Luckily, you will get your first Legendary Hero “The Heroine: Mulan” after logging in consecutively for 5 days.

15. Cavalry before other units

I said it before and I’ll say it again: Cavalry is the most important type of unit in Rise of Castles . They have the fastest marching speed and can carry the most while sieging or gathering resources.

Focus on researching Cavalry-related techs and upgrading the stable from the very beginning. Once you have a strong cavalry army, you can also start improving your Archers and Footmen.

16. Defeat Marauders and Savage Giants

hunting Marauders

Defeating Marauders is a great way to level up your Heroes faster . Marauders are bandits that spawn randomly on the map and they have different levels. The higher the level, the harder they are to defeat, but also the better the rewards.

These rewards can be anything from resources to experience items for your heroes. Defeat at least 10 Marauders a day to get the most out of this activity.

Similarly, Savage Giants are creatures that can be found on the map. These too, have different levels and provide different rewards upon defeat, but they are much more powerful. To defeat them you must join a rally created by one of your Alliance members, or create one so that other members of your Alliance can join you.

17. Research what’s most important first

Researching the wrong technologies can be a huge setback, so it’s important to know what to focus on first. When you’re just starting out, the most important techs to research are Town Development, Rapid Production, Class Legion Research, Basic Military, Cavalry training, and Zone Commemoration. Research these technologies as much as possible and you’ll see your city develop much faster.

18. Use stationary skills and Rapid Production

Most players focus on leveling their combat Legendary Heroes, but there are other heroes that can be very useful as well. These are called Stationary Heroes, and cannot be used in combats.

Instead, they can be placed in the Town Hall building and can offer great bonuses to your town, such as extra resources, faster training speed, or better healing for your wounded troops. Some of these heroes also provide a manual skill that can be used once a day.

In the same vein, Rapid Production technology is also very important. It allows you to get a specific number of resources a day. You will get the first usage of the day guaranteed, after fully researching the Rapid Production tech tree, in the Institute.

19. Craft the Scavenger equipment

Try crafting the Scavenger set, or at least the helmet as soon as possible. The Scavenger helm gives a bonus to experience gained from attacking Marauders, so it’s definitely worth crafting if you’re looking to level up your heroes fast.

Another benefit of having purple, orange, or gold Scavenger pieces equipped is that they will increase the chances of receiving big chunks of meat for your dragon.

20. Feed and train your Red Dragon

Feeding and training your Red Dragon is crucial if you want to get the most out of it. The more you feed him and upgrade his talents, the more powerful he becomes, and offers you great bonuses that can help speed up your town’s development.

Another great benefit of feeding the dragon is that, once he reaches level 20 with his Power of the Dragon talent, it will transform into an Adult Dragon and can then be used in combats, attached to your legions.

21. Donate to Alliance and collect your salary

Alliance donation tech tree

Try donating resources to your Alliance to help research different techs, every day twice a day if possible, until you run out of donations. This will help develop new techs that all members can benefit from.

You also get Alliance Points in return and you can use them to get speed-ups, Advanced Teleports, Courage Medals, Gathering Bonuses, and other useful items. By donating, you also get a “Salary”, two chests that contain gold rewards. All these features can be found under the alliance menu.

22. Be active on chat, make new friends

Being active on the in-game chat is a great way to make new friends and allies. You can also use the chat to ask for help, trade resources, or just chat and have fun. Is always good to have friends from multiple different alliances.

This way if for some reason you are not happy anymore in your current alliance, you can always ask to be invited into another one of your friends’ alliances.

Also, keep an eye on your alliance chat. Every time a member upgrades his/her Castle to a certain level, a diamond raffle will be automatically posted on the chat. Is a good way to get some extra diamonds.

23. Read the mail and collect your rewards

reading all in-game emails at once in Rise of Empires

Be sure to read your in-game mail regularly and collect the rewards. You can get a lot of useful items this way, such as resources, speed-ups, gold, and diamonds. After each event or competition, you will receive an email that also contains the rewards that need to be collected.

Is also quite common to get a few hundred diamonds after each major bug fix or other events created by the Rise of Castles team.

24. Spend your Gems and Speed-ups wisely

I know how tempting is to spend your hard-earned diamonds on training your troops faster or upgrading a random building, but trust me, you will need those speed-ups and diamonds later on, in the Clash of Province or Hourly Challenge events. Why not save them and use them when you can actually be rewarded?

25. Don’t forget to shield up your Castle

how to put the shield on step 1

In the early game, you will be quite vulnerable to attacks from other players. Is even worse if you are not yet a member of an alliance, or the one you are in is not in the top 10 or 20 (each state has its own rules) most powerful alliances. Those top 10 usually have a NAP (Non-Aggression Pact) between them, which means they will not attack each other.

Also, if you don’t take part in the Clash of Province Kill Event, which usually happens during weekends, put on a 3-day shield to protect your castle and avoid getting zeroed (you will be teleported randomly) and losing a lot of your hard-earned resources, and having your troops defeated.

All the things I mentioned above should become part of your daily game routine. Is much better to stay organized and consistent in this game, if you want to make the best out of it. Try to log in daily, and spend at least 1 hour on the game and you will be surprised at how much you can achieve in just one month.

The many combat and development heroes in the game are the key to success in battles and in the production of resources that you need to progress but getting them is a case of luck and patience. Or deep pockets. We are always being tempted with the recruitment tickets but like lottery tickets the odds are stacked against hitting that jackpot.

A separate way to obtain the heroes is through collecting hero fragments but what are they?

The fragments are credit towards a specific hero that when you collect enough will let you trade them in for a hero to add to your collection. Or if you already have the hero then you can gain a hero medal that you may need to unlock a skill for the hero.

How to get them?

The fragments can be obtained one at a time from Daily Challenge event reward chests (2nd tier rewards) and potentially other reward drops. This is a slow way to get them but doesn't cost you anything extra to do so.

You can also buy fragments from the Token Shop (in the heroes Hall Building) by using the hero tokens, these are also earned from the Daily Challenge events from the third tier reward box. Collecting enough tokens will let you immediately exchange them for enough fragments to get the hero.

The bad news is that you will need to collect a lot of fragments for each Hero. 150 for a purple hero and some orange heroes and 200 for the main Orange heroes . And each fragment that you get will be dropped for a specific hero, so you are not able to choose to apply them to a hero that you want. You may end up mainly collecting fragments of heroes you already have.

How do i check my progress

To see how many fragments you have collected so far and for which heroes, use the Hero menu button on the main screen bottom right and then select the Fragments Tab.

This high level of fragments needed and inability to choose your reward does put fragments on the slow path to hero ownership but over time you will find it easier to get the rewards and with some heroes being very rare drops this is at least a path that you can follow easily.

Legions [ ]

Type of legions: [ ].

  • Each legion type has its own tech tree so investment in "extra legions can become very expensive and time consuming
  • Each legion also has its own Fatigue Measure so while moving troops and heroes around is possible, the various legions themseLeveles must "rest up" when fatigue becomes too low.
  • Fatigue is incurred when a legion is dispatched so time consuming chores like gathering resources

Basic Legion [ ]

  • The first legion you unlock will be Legion 1, a basic legion
  • Basic Legions will NOT be able to plunder gold from PVP enemies

Class Legion [ ]

  • The second legion available will be the Class legion
  • It is recommend to focus on Class Legion as soon as you unlock it. Class Legion has the ability to raid gold when your class is ‘raider’.
  • Many players suggest focusing on upgrading Class Legion research to the maximum so that you unlock 3 spots for heroes.
  • Others suggest unlocking the second hero spot in legion 1 & 2 before maxing out Class Legion.

Basic Legion 2 [ ]

  • A Second "Basic" Legion becomes possible at Castle Level 15?

Basic Legion 3 [ ]

  • A Third "Basic" Legion becomes possible at Castle Level ??

Basic Legion 4 [ ]

There are three basic troop types

  • All the troops have their unique advantages. And there is a circle of the troops that are advantages versus other troops, a comprehensive summary down here.

Footmen [ ]

  • Footmen : Strongest in Defense

Cavalry [ ]

  • Cavalry : Ideally for raiding, due to speed & carrying capacity

Archers [ ]

  • Archers : Strongest in Offense

Comparative Troop Advantages [ ]

  • What is strongest against what is a sort of rock/paper/scissors game

Footmen > Archers > Cavalries > Footmen

  • Footmen: Strong against Archers / Weak against Cavalries
  • Archers: Strong against Cavalries / Weak Against Footmen
  • Cavalries: Strong Against Footmen / Weak Against Archers

Legion Set-up [ ]

4 Main Set-ups of Formations are the common used ones. (Front- / Middle- / Back- row)

  • Footman / Cavalry / Archers
  • Footman / Footman / Footman
  • Cavalry / Cavalry / Cavalry
  • Archers / Archers / Archers

With Castle Level 17 and Garrison Hall Level 17 you get access to Cavalry / Footman / Archer - war rooms, which adds Might and Defense bonus to Formations 2-4. Formation 3 is mostly used as Class Legion formation, since with their high march speed and troop load raiders can raid other players resources quick before they get a chance to shield or get reinforced.

Introduction [ ]

  • The game has 2 basic types of heroes, Combat & Development heroes.
  • For purposes of this section we'll focus on the Combat Heroes.
  • Some would advise that it’s important to recognize from the early game it’s not worth it to invest too much experience & nor too many resources in green, blue or purple heroes. Combat heroes are the most important ones. It’s also not worth investing in development heroes in the early game. Investing means spending wisdom medals to unlock or upgrade their skills. By the time you reach Castle level 15 you will probably have one or two orange heroes.
  • Heroes also have different levels of potential that can be identified by their color.
  • Green (weakest)
  • Orange (strongest)
  • S or Seasonal Heroes (Stronger still but tough to get and expensive to advance)

Eden Basics for Beginners | Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire

how to use biography seal rise of empires

How do I play Eden in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire?  This is a question many players ask once they finish their final season of Reign of Chaos. To help (and take the load off your R5), I have gathered some notes for beginners on  how to play Eden  from videos and other players in the game. Let’s begin!

Not quite at Eden yet? Here are two articles I’ve written that may help!

Reign of Chaos War Guide for Beginners | Rise of Empires

S1 vs. S2 Reign of Chaos War Review | Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire

What is Eden in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire?

What is Eden?

In Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire , the game’s timeline changes from Clash of Provinces > to Reign of Chaos > to Eden.

Once Reign of Chaos is over, the next ‘event’ (Eden) continues for the rest of the game. Eden has seasons like Reign of Chaos, and you can gain rewards at the end of each season.

You can also gain new and exciting Season X heroes during Eden, so be sure to watch out for those.

What is the goal of Eden?

The goal of Eden is to work with other players in your Guild to tile to the center of the Eden ‘map’ (which is separate from your state map), and take the ‘Ancient Temple’ – or the Capital. This is the highest level building in the game and will give you the most points toward your season total.

As with Reign of Chaos, you work with your team to take tiles toward different territory ‘gates’. You then work as a guild AND sector to demolish the gates before another team can make it there! Your guild (or sector, depending on your allegiances) should decide which gates to attack to get to the center of the map quickly.

Along the way there are other buildings (Towns and Cities) that you may destroy together with other members to gain more points.

Points this season are called “Occupation Value”. The higher your occupation value, the more rewards you will get at the end of the season.

What does Eden look like?

As I said, the Eden map is a SEPARATE map from the state map. You can teleport to and from that map to participate in Eden war, and to complete Eden tasks. You no longer take tiles in your home state. You no longer attack alliance centers in your home state. All attacks and tiling are now done on the Eden map.

Here is a recent screenshot of what the Eden map may look like for you:

how to use biography seal rise of empires

You will be able to see capitals, towns, gates, and the castles of your fellow alliance members wherever they are on the map. You will also be able to see the different sectors to help your team plan for where to move next on the map! Bookmarks may be placed as usual.

When you travel to the Eden map, you will also not be part of your ‘alliance’, but will instead join a guild in your sector. Most of your alliance members will begin in the same sector as you, unless they joined your alliance too close to the start of Eden. In that case, they may generate to another part of the map.

Guilds are made up of 50 players (some have said 100) at the beginning of Eden seasons. As with your alliance at home, there is a Guild R5, two R4s, and two R3s who manage the guild on the Eden map.

What should I do to prepare for Eden?

how to use biography seal rise of empires

Once you finish your final season of Reign of Chaos War, it is time to focus on  getting to castle level 25 as soon as possible, and getting your T9 troops.  That means maxing your research tree (especially zone commemoration), upgrading troop buildings, and making sure you get all nine CoP chests every day.

Otherwise, the best way you can prepare is to begin donating to your alliance technology (in your state) as much as possible. Log in every few hours to donate more, and use all your donations to collect stone! You will need lots of stone to teleport to the Eden map.

This is also the best time to use your alliance to their fullest advantage! Ask strong players for tips to help you grow. See if they will let you borrow farms for extra resources, or if they will help reinforce you during Kill Events. Ask questions about the game, and make sure to keep in touch with your team through alliance chat and by checking all-mails.

What Do I Do When Eden Starts? (c/o  LordofPondtail )

Once Eden begins (on the ‘first day’ of Eden, Season X), there are a few things you can begin doing right away, just like in Reign of Chaos!

Here are some basic steps to follow, and added tips for what to expect as you start Eden in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire.

  • Your alliance R5 will place RoC Alliance Centers in home state. Just like with Reign of Chaos, your alliance R5 will place alliance centers in your home state.
  • Players place coalition buildings and fortresses in home state. Once alliance centers are placed in the home state, alliance members can place their buildings in any formation. There is no defense needed for this formation, a cluster is fine.
  • First, fill up your processing queues, then reset to BLUE DOWN to unlock your extra assault and guardian fortresses. Place those buildings.
  • Then, reset once more to BLUE RIGHT to gain as much immediate loyalty (rebel zeal) as possible to take higher level tiles in the Eden map.
  • Enter the Eden Map. Click the RoC Tab on your events page. Enter that tab and click TELEPORT TO EDEN MAP.
  • Join a Guild. Based on the plans you’ve made with your alliance, and based on who ‘generates’ in your sector of the Eden map, you will then join a guild. You can join with your alliance members, or with new friends in other guilds in your sector. There are many advantages to all options, so make sure to choose an option that will give you the most fun.
  • Begin to take tiles to level up your loyalty score. Like with Reign of Chaos, your first step will be to start taking tiles to increase your loyalty score as soon as possible. That way, when it comes time for the team to start taking their first level one Gate, you’ll be ready to help! The goal in your first day should be able to have enough loyalty (2700) to take a level one gate.
  • Begin completing Eden ‘quests’. Make sure to complete the Eden quests that pop up to get extra Occupation Value and honour points. This will help you increase your specialization, while getting better rewards at the end of your first season!
  • Start donating to guild contribution with your military supplies. On the eden map, there is another donation option that you can make with your Military supplies. This is how you increase the size of your guild (according to LordP, it is no longer by taking capital buildings), so begin donating as much of those supplies as you can right away. Your guild (at it’s greatest) can have up to 200 members.
  • Work with your team (and Sector!) to make an Eden War strategy for your guild. Choose gates and buildings you want to tile to as a team. Plan with other members of your guild, sector, and alliance for where you want to tile, who you will work with, who you will fight, as well as what buildings and gates you will choose to take as a team. Guild R5s are advised to ‘set a war time’ for members to get used to coming online!

How do I play Eden?

how to use biography seal rise of empires

How do I play Eden in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire?

There’s no simple answer, but I’ll do my best to put together what I’ve learned so far. I encourage you to reach out with updates, changes, and extra tips or advice should you see anything that needs changing. Some of the source material I used is from 2020, so there could be a lot different into this year and the next.

How to Play Eden | Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire

The idea with Eden is to dominate your state and sector, and other states and sectors, to maintain a position that allows you to take the Ancient Temple.

All Eden activities take place on a map that is SEPARATE from your state map. The map is similar to your state map, and has a province chat per sector. There is an outer perimeter of Zone One sectors where everyone begins, before they try to tile to the middle.

Your team/ guild/ sector will work to move to the center of the map by tiling. Along the way your team will have to take gates, towns and capital buildings to increase their loyalty, strategy, strength, and to prove that they’re ready for Eden’s biggest challenge: taking down the Ancient Temple at the center of the map. Taking buildings and gates is also how players gain occupation value, which is the main way to get rewards every season of Eden.

TIP: Pay attention to a structures’ guard power, not just their demo value! This can give you a hint on the strength your guild needs to bring down the structure.

The harder it is to occupy a town, city, or capital, the more points you will gain. As with RoC you need to keep taking tiles to be able to get honour for specialization, and to gain the construction materials you need to succeed in Eden.

As well, you will want to begin donating guild contributions to increase the size of your guild. You will need way more players to be able to take the bigger structures (that require T9s), so do your best to donate soon, and as much as you can. You may have to check me on this, but I read that should you choose to switch guilds, your season points will reset – so be careful of that.

Now, while all of this is happening, OTHER guilds in OTHER sectors are going to be working to do the exact same thing–get to the center of the map! They want to get the most points, and to defeat the Ancient Temple (and maintain the center territory).

As such, you will face others in battle as you work to destroy gates, enter new territories, and try to protect your own sector from invaders. This is when it is important to work with other guilds to protect your sector, and to compete with more hostile players for towns and cities.

What else should I know about Eden before I start playing?

how to use biography seal rise of empires

Going through the other sources I’d found for Eden, there was honestly so much information it was hard to capture everything. Still, I don’t want anyone to miss out on what I found, so here is a quick summary of extra tips to help you succeed in Eden:

  • There are five levels of gates that players may take . Each gate is on a timer, and you can watch (as a guild) for when they are available to take. There does not seem to be a formula for which level gates appear at what area/sector, so search your sector borders for the right strategy.
  • Each gate has a different demo value, and needs a different loyalty level (rebel zeal) to defeat.  For instance, gate one (in 2020) had 3600 loyalty and 400,000 demo value, while the fifth gate had 6400 loyalty and 2M needed demo value (a.k.a. fortification value or demolition value).  Each gate gives five points of occupation value .
  • Small Town (Level One): 4800 rebel zeal; 1.5M demo value; 15 occupation value points
  • Large Town (Level Three): 5600 rebel zeal; 3.5M demo value; 30 occupation value points
  • Capitals (Level Five): 6400 rebel zeal; 6400 loyalty; 70 occupation value points
  • *** YOU WILL NEED T9 TROOPS & MANY MEMBERS TO TAKE THIS BUILDING TYPE.  That is why guild contributions are so important!
  • Ancient Temple (CENTER BUILDING): 8000 rebel zeal; 500 demo value
  • You have separate stamina in your home state and in the Eden map.  You can participate in KE and do all your tasks at home as normal, then head back to the Eden map where you will have full stamina again!
  • If you are more than 150kms from the castle or structure you are attacking, it will affect your troop damage up to 70% . Try to teleport close to the structure you’re attacking. Speculation says this is also true in your home state, and not just on the Eden map.
  • Some players suggest starting to ‘build’ a teleport location as a backup for emergencies!  Since teleports do take so long to ‘build’, having another one on the go while you’re moving to the Eden map can be an advantage in case you need to move ‘quickly’.
  • You cannot use a regular teleport on the Eden map . First you must take four adjoining tiles (enough room for your castle), and then teleport there. It takes to hours to teleport, so you will set the timer, and come back to fully ‘teleport’ when the timer is up. Eden teleports cost 1000 stone, and 10,000 construction materials.
  • There are no shields on the eden map . If a tile is touching your castle, you may be attacked (a lot like it was for the RoC Shouts in reign of chaos).
  • There are no marching speed-ups in Eden.
  • You will receive a free shield for the first eight hours, from the time you first join the Eden map.
  • Players cannot attack cities or towns until the reset on day one of the Eden event.
  • Seasonal rewards for Eden are based Occupation Values.  You get Occupation value by taking gates towns and cities alongside other members of your guild.
  • Buy the “Elite Challenge” package.  It is a great value for your money, and gives you almost $1000 worth of reward value. For instance you get an exclusive legion skin, extra seasonal experience pool privileges, a ton of hero exp. and honour exp., 20% faster frontline workshops, and 20% faster healing in your coalition buildings. You will get more regeneration serum, it takes less time to abandon tiles, you get an extra processing queue, and a 50% marching speed boost. (Price about $27 USD).
  • Some players recommend sector-based NAP agreements.  This can help everyone focus their stamina and troops on winning Eden for their guild.

I’ll try to keep this list updated as I go, but until then, Krysos Kinmaster of Alliance TTT in State #341 wishes you all the best in your Eden season, and all your Eden seasons to come!

Cơ bản về Eden cho người mới bắt đầu | Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire

Làm cách nào để chơi Eden trong Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire?

Eden in Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire là gì?

Eden là gì?

Trong Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire, dòng thời gian của trò chơi thay đổi từ Clash of Provires> Reign of Chaos> sang Eden.

Làm cách nào để chơi Eden trong Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire?

Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire

Thị trấn nhỏ (Cấp một): 4800 nhiệt huyết nổi dậy; Giá trị demo 1,5 triệu; 15 điểm giá trị nghề nghiệp Thị trấn Lớn (Cấp độ Ba): 5600 nhiệt huyết nổi dậy; Giá trị demo 3,5 triệu; 30 điểm giá trị nghề nghiệp Thủ đô (Cấp độ năm): 6400 nhiệt huyết nổi dậy; 6400 lòng trung thành; 70 điểm giá trị nghề nghiệp Thủ đô (Cấp sáu): 7000 người nổi dậy nhiệt thành; Giá trị demo 4,5 triệu; 100 điểm giá trị nghề nghiệp *** BẠN SẼ CẦN T9 TROOPS & NHIỀU THÀNH VIÊN ĐỂ LẤY LOẠI XÂY DỰNG NÀY.

Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Conquer the World

By: Author Oscar L. Schmidt

Posted on Last updated: December 10, 2022

Another day, another harvest! The fields are doing well, the ale is flowing from the distilleries. One of the iron forges caught fire when someone tried to take some shortcuts to make more iron ingots, but it was quickly dealt with and nobody got hurt. You, a farmer turned king, look at your city from your castle’s parapet, expecting a slow, quiet day.

Unfortunately, the quiet is interrupted by your aide: He brings disturbing news from your scouts, telling of an army forming up to breach your city’s gates. You prepare your numerous troops, well armed and fed but not entirely enthusiastic farmers and laborers, for combat. You also have everyone else hide the stockpiles of resources in your city. You are determined to make the enemy walk home with nothing, even if your armies lose.

rise of empires guide

Walking home with nothing is more or less what the enemy does: Your troops fight a delaying action, but the enemy forces have superior training and tactics, and your soldiers inevitably fold and retreat. The enemy loots the city, but they don’t come home with a lot, the spoils they took not nearly making up for the losses they suffered against your individually unimpressive but well-equipped and numerous army. At the end of the day, despite what looks like a defeat, you and your citizens get the last laugh as the people put out fires and return to their daily grind for another day, another harvest. Such is the life of a farmer king.

Welcome to our Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire beginner’s guide! Rise of Empires is a mobile strategy title by Long Tech Network Limited. In this game, you set up your city, build an army, pick fights with other players to take their stuff, farm and grind for resources, and generally try to keep your city running and prosperous. It’s a lot like other strategy games on the App Store and Google Play, with a focus on getting a larger army than the enemy while making sure the heroes lead them to have skills that synergize with each other.

rise of empires march

Though unlike most of those games, army building only really comes into its own much later in one’s playtime, with hero slots for armies being unlocked very slowly. You will spend a lot of your time as a rookie with only a single hero in each army you have. We warn you, this is a very slow game, and you will need patience and an appreciation for the long haul to do well in it.

rise of empires classes

Very early into the game, you will be given the option to pick between 3 differing class archetypes for your city. The differences between them are large enough that they will determine how you play the game. Raiders are strongest when doing lots of PVP because of their increased siege bonuses but suffer from heavily inefficient resource gathering.

Farmers are blessed with resource generation and defense good enough, and cursed with siege damage worthless enough, that ignoring PVP entirely is a viable option for them. Traders work best when paired with a good, reliable Alliance to make the most of them because of their ability to trade with and help out Allies mixed with their vulnerability to attackers.

Trader: International Trade, International Beatdown!

rise of empires trader

A good pick if you want to be helpful to a tight-knit Alliance, the Trader unlocks an exclusive structure that allows them to trade resources with Allies. They also have buffs to Gold Production, have better prices in the Trading House, and their troops eat less Food and later Trader archetype classes can even get a few indirect offensive buffs for PVP.

All this allows them to grow faster, especially if they’re in a good Alliance. Their downside? They are hideously poor on the defense, as they lose twice as many resources to attackers when their city is raided and they replenish troop losses more slowly because of their expensive and slow troop healing. This makes them more vulnerable to repeat attacks, on top of being very juicy targets.

Raider: Their Misery, Your Prosperity

rise of empires raider

If you like ruining another player’s day, then being a Raider is your calling. They take fewer losses from attacks, replenish those losses twice as fast, gain much greater rewards from fighting than the other classes, and can plunder Gold from Sieges using their exclusive structure.

Later Raider archetype classes also get Siege buffs so they can bully people even harder. Their downside? While they may replenish losses faster, they generate resources much more slowly than either class when not taking them from someone else. This makes the early game as a Raider fairly dangerous, as you’re at a disadvantage against other players who can build up their cities, and therefore their armies, faster than you can.

As a Raider, you also have a big target painted on your back since nobody likes being attacked, and they may decide to attack you pre-emptively so you can’t build up. That being said, once you get the ball rolling and have a large army, you can give other players kidney stones from all the salt your powerful raiding buffs can cause!

Farmer: Comfort Even As The World Burns!

rise of empires farmer

Say you’re sick of PVP in games like this and just want to be left alone to relax, grind, and treat the game as if it were a simplified Sim City. This means the life of a Farmer is for you! Farmers generate resources quite quickly, and their soldiers get more resources from Gathering on the map than other classes.

Their unique structure leans into this further, allowing even better resource gathering and the Bountiful Harvest ability, which lets them instantly gather an hour’s worth of resources once every day. They also protect their resources more effectively than the other classes. They have bigger Depots, which means they take fewer losses from Sieges in general, especially with the later Farmer archetype classes.

Not only does this let them expand stably even when in a fairly dangerous part of the map, but this also makes them problematic to attack since not only do they usually have a threatening, well-fed army that mostly just stays at home when not gathering or bullying NPCs, they tend to be not worth attacking in the first place since you get less out of hitting them when compared to fighting Raiders or Traders.

Farmers can lose defensive battles and not care all that much, because they lose a fairly small percentage of resources when it happens, maybe a bit compounded by losses to medical bills. The downside is that Farmer cities are as sick of war as any player using them: They do very poorly on the offense, with greatly reduced stats while besieging other players’ cities.

And even if they throw their big well-fed army at you, they march slowly and give you time to prepare, provided you listen to your phone notifications or are attacked while playing. Though if you picked Farmer, PVP’s likely not on your agenda anyway.

  Craftsmen: Technological Superiority!

rise of empires craftsman

The Craftsman archetype is not available as a starter class, so you likely won’t have access to this until much later in the game. Thankfully the game allows you to check what classes you don’t use are about, and Craftsmen are about fast upgrades and fast city development. They typically get reduced research and build times, and they pay less for such too. This allows them to go through the Insitute’s tech trees faster, and unlock things like extra Hero slots in their legions more easily.

GENERAL TIPS

rise of empires home

While Rise of Empires is fairly similar in many respects to other mobile strategy games, it does have its weird quirks to take into account, especially outside of combat. Like how there is a certain time when it’s best to roll in the Recruitment gacha, or how one needs to attach all structures to roads because the workers cannot be paid to touch grass no matter how badly you want them to. Here are some things to keep in mind while playing Rise of Empires.

Logistical Roadways

rise of empires disconnected

All structures you build must connect to the Castle via Road tiles. This makes building your town an exercise in trying to make efficient use of space whenever possible. At one point the game will force you to automatically rearrange your city, so wait until then to start designing the roadways for your city. When doing so, you have two things to keep in mind: Structure sizes and Resource tiles.

Resource tiles should have a 1-tile area around them cleared so you can surround them with resource-gathering structures, which are usually just 1 tile large. As for structure sizes, most structures are 4 tiles square, but some are 1 tile square or 9 tiles square.

Always try to use the as little road as possible, so you have more space for buildings. The auto-layout function does a good job of making sure everything is next to a road, but it may scatter resource structures around, making it harder to look for them when it’s time to upgrade them, or for Charcoal Factories, to feed them Wood.

Join an Alliance

rise of empires allies

As with most online games, joining a guild confers several benefits. For this game, they’re called Alliances, and they allow other players to speed up your building construction. You also get Wages for doing various daily tasks for the Alliance such as donating to Guild Research or beating the tar out of NPC Marauders littering the map.

There is also Alliance Research which gives the entire Alliance buffs, but allies must contribute to it to upgrade said buffs. Make sure NOT to use Quick Join when looking for n Alliance, at least if you’re in an Asian server: The game may sling you into an Alliance that doesn’t speak the same language as you, ensuring confusion for all involved. Instead, look for an Alliance that speaks the same language as you or at least one that you understand, by checking their Alliance Statements.

A Gacha Rolling Schedule!?

rise of empires gacha

A tip you may have heard among many gacha games such as this one would be to only do 10-rolls for the discount. It still rings true here, since a roll costs one gacha ticket for the appropriate Recruitment type, and yet 10 of them get you 11 rolls if you do it all at once. But just because you get your 10 tickets doesn’t mean you should roll immediately.

One of the Hourly Challenges allows you to get points for it by rolling the Recruitment gacha, with more rolls for higher tier gachas getting you more points, and therefore better rewards. It’s usually a good idea to save your gacha tickets should such an Hourly Challenge pop out, since as their name implies, these challenges only last an hour. This allows you to get the most out of your tickets as possible, with you getting the Hourly Challenge reward along with the heroes you rolled for! Speaking of which…

Hourly Challenges

rise of empires hourly challenge

Hourly Challenges are missions that change every hour, meant for players who have been playing the game for at least a week or so. The gist of it is you get points for doing certain tasks, and if you gather enough points, you get escalating rewards like resources and gems.

The easiest one for a newbie to do would be the Gacha challenge since you’ll get some free rolls early on. You’ll need to roll at least once to get some heroes for your town, but the rest of the tickets should be saved for your first Hourly Challenge of this type.

Save Your Gems For The Town Hall and Watch Tower

rise of empires town hall

The Town Hall allows you to appoint certain, predetermined Heroes to your government to act as public officials and give your kingdom passive buffs, usually for generating resources or military action. The Town Hall can only hold a certain amount of officials based on a Cost Capacity system, with certain Heroes taking up more capacity than others when appointed.

To increase this cost capacity, you need to upgrade the Town Hall. Just one problem though: Town hall upgrades, on top of costing the usual resources, also cost Stationing Plans. Stationing Plans cost Gems to buy. This means you should use the free gems the game occasionally gives you to buy Stationing Plans as a long-term investment, instead of going for their other use: Instantly completing construction upgrades.

That way, every time you get a new Hero meant for the Town Hall, you can appoint them in short order instead of letting them sit in your roster doing nothing. After all, it’s not like you can send them to combat.

As for the Watch Tower, it does one very simple task: Shoot at attacking player armies while being immune to attack itself. Leveling this up requires you to buy Alloy Barrels with gems, so you should save gems for those too. Especially if you’re playing a Trader since Traders have more to lose from an attack than any other class and need to be able to beat back invaders more than classes like the Farmers do.

Remember to Upgrade Your Farms After Every Castle Upgrade

rise of empires farm

In most kingdom builder games, it’s pretty easy to remember to upgrade your resource-generating structures: There would usually be only a few of them, and they’re often a requirement to upgrade the central structure (Usually called a Castle or Town Hall), or outlined in your quests. Here, resource structures tend not to be a requirement for either, and you can have several of them for every resource tile you own. Keep them upgraded on your own time.

One tip to remember this more easily: Upgrade each resource structure once every time you upgrade your Castle since the max level of a resource-generating structure is the same as your current Castle level. After that, you can complete your upgrade quests and your Castle normally.

Use Your Speedups

rise of empires speed ups

Initially, the game may look a bit sparse in terms of speedups compared to other mobile games of this type, but it isn’t long until you get a lot of quests and events that give them out like candy, at least early on. Make sure you use your speed-ups often early on, as you only have a limited number of builders and loads of buildings to upgrade while that newbie shield ticks down.

Mostly because of the multiple copies of resource-gathering structures you’ll construct to maximize gathering efficiency. The majority of the speed-ups you’ll get are of the small 5 minute kind though, so speed up the 10-30 minute constructions first so you can free up the build slots quickly for your next upgrade or construction project.

Your Other Stockpile: Don’t Use Inventory Items Until You Need Them

rise of empires stockpile

Sometimes, resources rewarded to you are not immediately put into your resource stockpile. Instead, it is sent to your account inventory as a consumable item. Resources in this form cannot be taken by the enemy should your City be attacked. This means you should only use these resource items when you need them or will spend said resources immediately.

This goes double if you’re not running a Farmer class city, and tenfold if you’re a Trader: Traders lose double the resources to PVP attacks compared to any other class on top of having expensive medical bills, so keeping resources as inventory items is a good idea to prevent heavy losses from enemy attacks.

DAILY GRIND

rise of empires dailies

Every login, there are some things you can do regularly to progress your city. You’ll most likely develop some form of habit as you play the game, which is a good thing since that allows you to play efficiently even at your own pace.

Knowing which things might make good daily habits will make it easier to play the game in general, as Rise of Empires asks you to keep your city maintained so it can generate certain resources like Population and Charcoal, or to keep an eye on your army and replenish it when needed. Here are some of the habits you’re likely to form as you play.

Fill The Charcoal Factory and Tavern

rise of empires fill up

The Charcoal Factories and the Tavern are resource structures that produce charcoal and population respectively. Unlike other resource structures that need to be built next to a resource tile or in the case of the mint, can be left completely alone, the Charcoal Factory and Tavern each need to have resources delivered to them manually by your command.

For the Charcoal factories, they require Wood to make Charcoal, while the Tavern asks you for Ale and Food to generate Population. The deliveries take up a work slot but are fairly quick, and the production of population and charcoal takes long enough that you won’t minding them as you play through your daily session.

This means delivering resources to the Charocal factories and the Tavern should be the first thing you do, since forgetting about them means you might have to wait several hours for a building to upgrade, or use a ton of speedups, just to be able to do those deliveries, which may take a minute top.

rise of empires hunt

You see the deer running around your city? They’re not paying taxes, and your Dragon thinks they’re tasty, as they drop Meat (not to be confused with the Food resource) when killed. Meat can be used to level up the Dragon, which increases the maximum troop count for your Legions, even with Legion slots that lack Heroes.

This means after you deliver resources to the Charcoal factory and the Tavern, you should kick those freeloading deer out of this mortal coil and feed the Meat they drop to the Dragon. This is also another task that eats up Worker slots yet is done relatively quickly per kill, so do it early in the day before your worker slots are eaten up by construction projects. Once both tasks are done, you can get to work with your planned upgrades and construction for the day.

rise of empires the plan

Now that all the local deer are dead and your Tavern and Charcoal factories are chugging along, it’s time to plan out what structures need upgrades today. The easiest way to find this out is to check your Castle’s upgrade requirements.

You’ll find out which of your structures also need upgrades, and you can usually keep tapping the listed Structures as they lead to the needed upgrade chain, since those have prerequisites to their own upgrades too. Then get those upgrades and spend those resources, so you have some space in your warehouses for the next couple of steps.

Check Your Daily Tasks and Rewards

Rise of Empires typically has quite a few events happening all at once, not to mention the Benefits Center which is a source of free stuff every time you complete some form of task or reach a certain milestone as a newbie. As such, you get quite a load of resources by checking them. After emptying your coffers by upgrading structures, it’s best to refill by grabbing those dailies afterward.

As for the Daily tasks, they can be checked along with the Main Tasks by tapping the Book icon in the lower left of the screen. They can give you a boost of resources to get your other plans going, particularly upgrades to your city.

Train Troops

rise of empires training

As with any kingdom-builder, Rise of Empires lets you control a military force that can protect your city from hostile players or, allow you to be the aforementioned hostile player to others. Keep your Barracks, Range, and Stables next to each other in the town and collect your finished troops, then spend resources to train more.

Early on, training is fast enough that you may need to do this several times throughout your daily login since as a newbie, you’re likely going to be training low-tier units in smaller batches. Once you start upgrading your unit production facilities though, you’ll not only unlock higher tier units, but you will also be training them in larger batches, which takes more time and demands less attention from you.

Check On Your Alliance

Upon logging in, you may notice a big fat notification circle with the number 20-something in the Menu button to the lower right of your screen. That’s telling you to look inside the Menu tab and tap the banner-looking Alliance tab since that’s where the majority of those notifications are from. Not only are there more daily rewards to nab from the guild, but you should also give the Alliance your daily allowance of Donations in the Technology section.

That way you not only contribute to making your guild stronger, but you also get a reward for it via the Salary tab. Not to mention simply logging in allows you to contribute to your Allies since all Alliance members get a stipend of Gems when a certain number of Allies log in for the day. Remember to check the Handshake icon too, since that leads to the Help section. This allows you to help your Allies with construction and research projects, by cutting down the timer a bit for them.

Dragon Exploration

rise of empires dragon exploration

Dragon Exploration can be accessed by tapping the structure your Dragon is standing on. They provide Dragon EXP, Speed Ups, and resources when completed, and all it takes to complete them are a tap. Your dragon has 100 stamina to complete them, but the stamina only gets spent if the dragon fails to do those Explorations. This means you should do the ones which have a 100% success chance first, and do whichever has the lowest success chance last. That way, you waste less Stamina on failures and can get the most rewards out of the stamina you have.

White Crow Bounties

rise of empires white crow bounties

As you level up, you’ll eventually unlock the White Crow Tavern, not to be confused with the Tavern and the Bar. The White Crow Tavern has a bulletin board of tasks you can complete on the world map, with rewards on top of whatever you would have gotten from just randomly killing Marauders and other things there. Unless you’re playing a Raider class nation, these are likely the main reason you have an army!

Always check on these every day and finish as many as you can with the forces you have. These missions are a great way to get rewards like Hero EXP, Dragon EXP, Courage Medals, and resources. Unlocking the White Crow Bounties is a sign that the game will start picking up soon, as before this you won’t have much reason to pick fights with map NPCs beyond participating in Events.

GETTING STRONGER

rise of empires weak sauce

In any strategy game of this genre, having a strong military is important to survival. Rise of Empires is no different. Even if you don’t plan on engaging in PVP, you would still need a large or powerful army to do tasks like gathering materials outside your city, picking fights with NPCs, or protecting yourself against other players, who naturally don’t care if you want to be left alone.

The Institute

rise of empires the institute

If you have already constructed an Institute, you will see a button on your screen that looks like a round chemical beaker. That’s your Research tab. If you go in there, you’ll see several upgrade types, and tapping on one of them takes you to their respective tech trees.

Of particular importance to your military starting out would be the Research Legion and Class Legion Research trees. Those trees have upgrades in them that allow you to assign Heroes to each legion, as unlike most other games like this, Rise of Empires does not allow you to immediately assign multiple heroes to an army group or Legion: You start with 1 Legion with one Hero slot out of three, and you unlock a Class Legion that doesn’t even have the first slot unlocked!

A hero-less slot will carry a base of 400 soldiers, with upgraded Training Grounds and Legion training Grounds allowing those hero-less slots to carry more soldiers. That being said, putting a Hero in a slot allows the said slot to carry a heck of a lot more soldiers, since the hero’s level stacks with the Training Ground level to provide more troop space. Before getting the other military research upgrades, you’ll need to go through the whole Legion and Class Legion tech trees to unlock all 3 slots per legion.

Hero Leveling and Training Grounds

rise of empires battle formation

A Hero’s level, as we discussed earlier, can increase a Legion’s army slot size by roughly 100 men per level. You can do the same for all 3 slots by upgrading a Legion’s respective Training Grounds structure, which is cheap but time-consuming since the upgrade process can be slow (Or consume a lot of Speed-Ups!) but it only uses up basic resources.

On the other hand, not only can you grind EXP for your Heroes by sending them out to do their jobs and kill things, but you might also find yourself accumulating EXP-increasing items as you finish tasks or participate in events.

Upgrading your Hero’s level is one of the more reliable ways to power up an army because of this, and why upgrading the Legion tech trees to unlock all the hero slots is so important. Upgrade your assigned combat Heroes to get a quick boost to your army while upgrading the Legion Training Grounds to enlarge your army sizes over time.

Academy Training

rise of empires academy training

As you upgrade your Barracks, Stable, and Archery Range, you will unlock higher-tier soldiers and can train them in larger batches. Considering troops are kept in separate slots in a legion even if they’re the same kind of soldier but of different tiers, it makes sense to transition to the higher tier unit types in time.

That being said, you should always train troops even if the next tier of the unit is almost unlocked. You have two ways to get higher-tier troops: Either train them or upgrade the lower-tier troops using the Military Academy. This way, your bulk of low-tier reserves are not wasted, as they can be upgraded to your current unit standard.

rise of empires dragon

Your Dragon is another important pillar of strength not just for your military, but for your city as a whole. It has 4 kinds of upgrades available to it.

Dragon talents are a set of Dragon skills that increase your city’s productivity. Certain skills will upgrade either resource gathering of a specific resource, or construction speed. You can unlock talents by feeding the dragon enough Meat to level the Power of the Dragon bar up high enough. You must manually activate the Dragon Talents every so often, once you see the circle with the dragon symbol fill up.

The main Dragon tab is the simplest way to upgrade it for combat. Here you can give the Dragon EXP. A higher-level Dragon will increase the maximum number of troops in your Legions, making them stronger if you have the troops to fill those slots.

The Skills tab allows you to upgrade the Dragon’s fire breath attack, which is used in combat if the Dragon is assigned to a specific Legion, then that Legion is sent out to fight. It requires items called Words of Truth to level it up.

Combat Talents are unlocked by Advancing your Dragon, using Blaze Stones to evolve it. You can access the Evolution screen by tapping one of the Combat talents and then tapping Advance Now. These talents are usually either upgrades to your Dragon’s main attack skill or passive buffs to whatever army the Dragon is currently attached to.

Not only does your dragon power up both your armies indirectly, but you can also assign them to a single specific Legion. This drastically boosts the Legion’s Power Rating both immediately and potentially, with immediate boosts coming from the Dragon’s various skills and buffs, and the potential boost coming from the increased max troop count that you admittedly still need troops to fill up.

Whether you assign the Dragon to one of your weaker or stronger armies is a matter of preference: You may want to assign the Dragon to your strongest army if you want easier access to high-level White Crow Bounties, or you may want to assign it to a weaker unit so you have two units of relatively good strength which can tackle multiple not-too-dangerous tasks at once. Thankfully, assigning the dragon isn’t a one-and-done deal, and you can change which Legion it follows whenever you want.

And this ends our Rise of Empires: Ice and Fire beginner’s guide. If you’ve got your own tips to share, don’t hesitate to talk about them in the comments!

The city of Kaer Maga

Standing atop one of the highest spots of the Storval Rise , the cliff-top city of Kaer Maga 2 (pronounced kare MAH-gah) 3 is built inside the ruins of an ancient fortress: a six-sided ring of 80-foot-high seamless stone, stretching more than a half mile in diameter and topped with towers of every shape and design. 4 Also known as the Asylum Stone , Kaer Maga has served as a refuge for exiles, misfits, and ne'er-do-wells fleeing persecution and prosecution for thousands of years, and is known throughout Golarion as a place where anyone can fit in, and where anything can be bought and sold. 1 5 6

The stone ring of Kaer Maga is incredibly ancient. It even predates the Empire of Thassilon ; the ring was discovered by Kaladurnae , the first runelord of greed , during his first survey of his new kingdom of Shalast .

At that time the ring was inhabited by the mysterious creatures not found anywhere else. Kaladurnae named them the caulborn , and entered into an alliance with them. He supplied them with intelligent creatures on which they could "feed", and the caulborn supplied him with prophetic visions of the future. The caulborn told Kaladurnae that the city was called Kaer Maga—a name which predated even them.

Kaladurnae populated the city with criminals, dissidents and any others he could readily spare. The population grew as new citizens were born in the city, and Kaladurnae decided to use vampires to police the ever-increasing population. Guided by the caulborn's prophecies, Shalast prospered.

The caulborn correctly predicted the arrival of the Starstone , and retreated beneath the city with some of the guards and prisoners. They did not bother to warn the incumbent runelord of greed, the archmage Karzoug , of the impending disaster.

The fall of the Starstone broke the city's wards, allowing the inhabitants to come and go as they pleased. They somehow weathered the Age of Darkness , and the city gained a reputation for self-sufficiency and a willingness to accept all who came to the city seeking sanctuary.

Today, the city survives mainly on trade, as the surrounding lands are largely unsuited to agriculture. Its reputation for accepting all comers has resulted in an extremely cosmopolitan population, and the tradition of self-sufficiency has translated into an unwillingness to accept any central authority over the city as a whole. 7

Conflict with Korvosa

The rulers of Korvosa became aware of the presence of Kaer Maga soon after the younger city's founding at the beginning of the 45th century AR . The rigid Chelaxians took an instant dislike to the anarchic City of Strangers, and tensions ran high between them for nearly 200 years. The simmering conflict finally boiled over when King Chadris of Korvosa launched a siege with an entire regent of Korvosan Guards in 4663 AR . The fighting continued for over two months and lead to the death of 117 guardsmen and the signing of the Treaty of Sirathu . In it, the leaders of Kaer Maga gave up any claim to territories below the Storval Rise. The treaty has held for the last few decades, and although tensions between the two settlements still exist, so does considerable trade (especially of illicit goods). 8

Inhabitants

Though an anarchic "civilization", a loose consortium of groups, gangs, and families rule the people of Kaer Maga. The entire city is a melting pot of citizens from all cultures, such as the Ardoc family of Bis ; the Brothers of the Seal , who are ready to kill each other over whether they should open the great portal they guard somewhere deep in the caverns beneath; the gently whistling Sweettalkers of Tian , with their lips sewn shut to keep them from uttering the true name of their god; the Augurs , troll seers who predict the future by casting divinations with their own intestines; and the bloatmages , with the leeches that keep them alive attached to their bulging bodies. 4

Kaer Maga is one of the main halfling settlements in the Inner Sea region ; halflings are the second most populous race in the city. Kaer Maga is one of the places escaped halfling slaves find welcoming. Halflings often join the Freemen of the Bottoms or live in the Halfway Houses in the Warren . 9

The city also has a sizeable population of mindless undead , sometimes referred to as the Twice-Born . 10

Worship in Kaer Maga is as diverse as the population. Any sect or cult willing to accept the city's "live and let live" philosophy is tolerated here. The most notable religions are described below.

The most popular faiths are those of Abadar and Asmodeus , as they both believe in the sanctity of contracts and the importance of meeting obligations—vital in an otherwise anarchic city that nevertheless relies heavily on trade. Both faiths in the city emphasis order and are much less concerned with ethics—something which can attract the ire of clerics from outside the city, who see this as unduly neglecting key elements of faith.

Calistria's sacred prostitutes can be found in the red light districts and especially in the Hospice section of the city, but the clergy stay out of the city's politics.

Worship of Cayden Cailean is common amongst the city's lower classes, and in the Bottoms in particular. The clergy is heavily associated with the Freemen , making them unwelcome with the slave traders. However, the religion is also popular amongst the local mercenaries, which discourages others from taking action against it.

The city's arcanists tend to worship Nethys . The faith's tendency to see all sides of an issue also gives it an advantage in Kaer Maga's constantly shifting political scene.

Worship of Pharasma is centred in the Godsmouth Ossuary in the Bottoms district. The bards of the Lyceum tend to revere Shelyn . Clerics of Shelyn also keep an eye on some of the more extreme establishments in the Hospice , to ensure they are not moved to the sado-masochistic faith of Zon-Kuthon . Worship of Urgathoa is common amongst the necromancers of Ankar-Te , and is particularly popular amongst the city's small leper population.

Two religions which are not welcome in Kaer Maga are the faiths of Sarenrae and Iomedae , as they are generally viewed as troublemakers. Worshippers are ostracised everywhere apart from the Bottoms . 11

The city is divided into 11 districts. Eight of them are contained within the hollow stone ring, and are known collectively as the Ring districts . The other 3 are in the city's open central area, and are known as the Core districts .

There is also a great network of underground tunnels and chambers known as the Undercity . 1

  • Highside Stacks , the towers of the wealthy

  • Widdershins , a quiet neighbourhood where everyone acts correctly—or else! 12

Places of interest

  • The Sorry Excuse : A rowdy inn found outside the Twisted Door . 13

Most of Kaer Maga's trade is in the exotic, or items which are illegal elsewhere, since basic items are produced more efficiently and cheaply in one of Varisia 's other cities. The city does not attract passing trade, as it is not on a trade route to anywhere else, but is a destination in its own right.

One of the city's main imports is grain from the lowlands around Korvosa . Goods travel by ship to Palin's Cove , then head north by caravan to the Yondabakari River . It then travels by barge to Kaer Maga. The alternative route, is to travel by ship to Magnimar and then by barge along the river for the rest of the journey. This route is much longer, but removes the need for an overland stage.

When the river reaches the Storval Rise , merchants can either blaze their own trail up the dangerous river gorge, or pay the Duskwardens in order to use the more efficient Halflight Path .

Caravans arriving from the north, for instance from Riddleport have the option of reaching the Storval Plateau via the Storval Stairs , but that route then requires many days of travel through the hostile Cinderlands . 14

Kaer Maga is the subject of the Pathfinder Chronicles sourcebook City of Strangers .
