Ninda Review: వ‌రుణ్ సందేశ్ హిట్టు అనే మాట విని చాలా కాల‌మైంది. స‌క్సెస్ కోసం త‌న స్టైల్ మార్చిన వ‌రుణ్ సందేశ్ క్రైమ్ థ్రిల్ల‌ర్ క‌థాంశంతో చేసిన మూవీ నింద‌. కాండ్ర‌కోట మిస్ట‌రీ అనే క్యాప్ష‌న్‌తో రూపొందిన ఈ సినిమాకు రాజేష్ జ‌గ‌న్నాథ‌మ్ ద‌ర్శ‌క‌నిర్మాత‌గా వ్య‌వ‌హ‌రించాడు. క్యూ మ‌ధు, అనీ, త‌నికెళ్ల‌భ‌ర‌ణి ప్ర‌ధాన పాత్ర‌ల్లో న‌టించారు. శుక్ర‌వారం ఈ మూవీ థియేట‌ర్ల‌లో రిలీజైన నింద మూవీ ఎలా ఉంది? ఈ సినిమాతో వ‌రుణ్ సందేశ్ విజ‌యాన్ని అందుకున్నాడా? లేదా? అంటే?

మంజును హత్య చేసింది ఎవరు?

మంజు (క్యూ మ‌ధు) అనే యువ‌తిని రేప్ చేసి చంపేశాడ‌ని కాండ్ర‌కోట‌కు చెందిన బాల‌రాజును (ఛ‌త్ర‌ప‌తి శేఖ‌ర్‌) పోలీసులు అరెస్ట్ చేస్తారు. బాల‌రాజు పొలంలోనే మంజు శవం దొరుకుతుంది. అంతే కాకుండా పోలీస్ ఇన్వేస్టిగేష‌న్‌తో పాటు డీఎన్ఏ రిపోర్ట్స్ లో బాల‌రాజు త‌ప్పు చేశాడ‌ని నిరూప‌ణ కావ‌డంతో అత‌డికి జ‌డ్జ్ స‌త్యానంద్ (త‌నికెళ్ల‌భ‌ర‌ణి) అత‌డికి ఉరిశిక్ష విధిస్తాడు.

కానీ బాల‌రాజు నేరం చేయ‌లేద‌ని స‌త్యానంద్‌ న‌మ్ముతాడు. నిర్ధోషికి శిక్ష ప‌డుతుంద‌నే బాధ‌తో త‌న జాబ్‌కు రిటైర్‌మెంట్‌ప్ర‌క‌టిస్తాడు. ఆ మ‌నోవేద‌న‌తోనే క‌న్నుమూస్తాడు. తండ్రికి ఇచ్చిన మాట కోసం హ్యూమ‌న్ రైట్స్ క‌మీష‌న్‌లో ప‌నిచేస్తోన్న స‌త్యానంద్‌కొడుకు వివేక్ (వ‌రుణ్ సందేశ్‌).... బాల‌రాజు కేసును రీ ఇన్వేస్టిగేష‌న్ చేయ‌డం మొద‌లుపెడ‌తాడు? వివేక్‌ అన్వేష‌ణ‌లో ఏం తేలింది? నిజంగా బాల‌రాజే మంజును హ‌త్య చేశాడా?

In the year 2898 AD, the world is vastly transformed, with the desertified city of Kasi standing as the last known civilization. Governed by a totalitarian elite under the leadership of the god-king Supreme Yaskin, who rules from a hovering, inverted pyramidal megastructure known as the "Complex," Kasi is a city entrenched in control and dystopia. The film weaves its narrative through the rich tapestry of ancient Indian Hindu mythology and dystopian future society, chronicling an epic journey across millennia. Starting from the events of the Mahabharata in 3102 BC, marking the dawn of Kali Yuga, to the far-future year of 2898 AD, the story centres on the enigmatic arrival of Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu.

The film features a diverse and talented ensemble cast, with Prabhas leading as Bhairava, a highly skilled bounty hunter. Filming commenced in July 2021 at a state-of-the-art set located at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, and proceeded intermittently across multiple phases over the subsequent three years before concluding in March 2024. With a staggering production budget of ₹600 crore (US$72 million), Kalki 2898 AD stands as the costliest Indian film ever made.

Kalki 2898 AD was originally planned for release on May 9, 2024, but was rescheduled due to the 2024 Indian general election. It is now scheduled for a global theatrical release on June 27, 2024, in IMAX, 3D, and various other film formats.

Santhosh Narayanan composed the film's music. The first single, "Bhairava Anthem," debuted on June 16, 2024, followed by the second single, "Theme of Kalki," released on June 25, 2024.

The movie features visual effects created by Prime Focus DNEG and The Embassy Visual Effects, which worked in collaboration with StealthWorks Taiwan, Folks VFX, Lola Visual Effects, Pixstone Images, and Labyrinth.

Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, who is known for his unique script choices, has now come up with a period action drama, Devil. “The British Secret Agent” is the tagline. Abhishek Nama is the director and producer. Let’s see how the film is.

Set in Rasapadu, British Province, a Zamindar’s daughter, Vijaya (Ammu Abhirami) gets murdered in a mysterious way. The British government orders Agent Devil (Kalyan Ram) to chase the murder mystery. After reaching Rasapadu Devil learns many shocking facts. After a point in time, Devil is given another mission named “Operation Tiger Hunt.” What is this new mission about? Who actually killed the Zamindar’s daughter? What is the connection between Vijaya’s murder and the new mission? Watch the film to know the answers.

Plus Points:

To start things off, Devil’s story is pretty interesting, with subplots, powerful characters, and multiple layers. The murder mystery is well linked with the patriotism concept. There are not one but many twists in the second half, which are neatly integrated into the plot. They don’t look forceful and fit well into the narrative. Some of them are whistle-worthy. Not just the twists but also the way they are revealed makes the movie thrilling.

There is some magic in Nandamuri heroes when it comes to dialogue delivery. The same can be witnessed in Devil, too. The way Kalyan Ram mouths powerful dialogues is just amazing. He does that with utmost conviction and leaves a solid impact. Kalyan Ram neatly showcases the variations present in his character. According to the script, Kalyan Ram plays his role in a subtle manner in the beginning, but when the story takes a shift, he goes all out in a ferocious avatar.

The artwork is meticulous, and the bygone era is neatly depicted. The production values and VFX works are top-notch. Samyukta Menon is pretty good in her role. She isn’t restricted to playing the romantic interest of Kalyan Ram, and her character has prominence in the story. Vassishta Simha is impressive, while Malvika Nair is decent. Others did what was expected of them.

Minus Points:

Though the movie starts on an interesting note, the narration isn’t gripping in the first hour. Things happen at a leisurely pace, and a few unnecessary scenes take down the tempo. There are a few decent moments, but the first half isn’t fully engaging.

There are a couple of songs in the first hour which are very bad. While the first one is totally unnecessary, the second song actually contributes to the plot, but that, too, isn’t impressive and adds to the boredom. Had the screenplay in the first half been watertight, the movie could have gone to the next level.

Technical Aspects:

As mentioned earlier, the songs scored by Harshavardhan Rameshwar aren’t good. His background score is decent, but one would expect even more from him due to his recent outing. The cinematography by Soundar Rajan is neat. The stunning artwork adds more value to the film. The editing could have been better, though.

Srikanth Vissa’s story is the biggest asset of Devil, and his dialogues regarding patriotism and the hero’s character are impactful and clap-worthy. Though the execution in the first half is below par, things are neatly handled in the latter hour.

On the whole, Devil is a watchable period action drama with an interesting storyline and impressive twists. Kalyan Ram is stunning in his role, and once again, the actor has chosen a different script. Samyukta Menon, Vassishta Simha, and Malvika Nair did justice to their respective roles. After a good start, the graph dips in the first half due to flat narration and bad songs. Had the first half been gripping, the movie could have gone to the next level. If you are okay with these flaws, you can give this film a try.
