What Works Well for this Personal Statement?

Why will the admissions committe like this applicant, why will the admissions committe like this essay.

My journey began amidst the kaleidoscope of Qatar’s landscapes, setting the stage for a life attuned to cultural nuances. Transitioning to Riyadh in my teens, I absorbed a mosaic of traditions, sparking a curiosity in global perspectives that continues to fuel my ambitions.

As a testament to this drive, I secured a place at Harvard Business School (HBS), where my management science studies were not merely academic; they were a gateway to a multitude of business disciplines, igniting a passion for marketing and international business. The hallmark case study approach at HBS deepened my understanding of business intricacies, particularly in marketing and global commerce.

An extraordinary chapter unfolded when I participated in a global business competition, collaborating with peers from the USA, Canada, and India to strategize market entry for a top American brand in India. My leadership in this project involved in-depth market analyses, resulting in our strategy’s recognition among the top 5% of 30,000 contenders. This experience was pivotal, sharpening my leadership skills and enhancing my adaptability to global business practices.

During my senior year, I was honored to represent HBS at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) as part of an elite exchange program. The vibrant intellectual environment at IIM, peppered with students from over 80 nations, was instrumental in broadening my academic and cultural horizons. Here, I not only excelled academically but also embraced the multifaceted campus life, contributing to a deeper, more nuanced understanding of international business.

Engagement with multicultural student organizations at Harvard, particularly in roles such as the social media head, honed my digital communication strategies and allowed me to lead impactful campaigns. My leadership role at the Harvard Climate Change Community further polished my ability to foster collaboration and guide diverse teams towards common goals.

My professional acumen was further developed through a dynamic internship with Walmart in New York City, where I worked within Business Intelligence & Marketing. This role required leveraging data analytics to inform strategies across the U.S. market, refining my skills in project management and analytical reasoning.

My subsequent experience at McKinsey provided a holistic view of the business landscape in key American cities, equipping me with a comprehensive skill set in marketing strategy and project execution. These roles, shaped by real-world challenges, have laid a solid foundation for my future in marketing and international commerce.

Having lived and worked across cultures—in Brazil, the Middle East, and the United States—I am prepared to contribute meaningfully to the international business sphere. The masters in international business (MIB) program at XYZ university, with its emphasis on a ‘Multi-Cultural Classroom’ and flexibility to specialize in International Market Development, is a perfect fit for my career aspirations.

Upon completing my master’s, I aim to leverage my education and experiences to enhance the burgeoning economic landscape of the Middle East, focusing on the diversification efforts that are propelling the region forward. With a master’s degree from XYZ university, I am excited about the prospect of returning to Riyadh, contributing to the growth of multinational corporations in Saudi Arabia.

In conclusion, my educational journey through leading institutions, coupled with practical business engagements, has prepared me for the challenges of an international career. I am eager to further my education in the United States, confident that XYZ university is the catalyst I need to transform my professional ambitions into reality.

Businesses have been instrumental in building our modern way of living. The versatility and innovation of business quickly captured my attention when I started my first job, and my interest has only continued to grow. Having undertaken various work experience roles and achieved a 2.1 in my undergraduate degree, I intend to further my education through a Masters. My main interests lie in strategic management and marketing as I enjoy learning new methods for existing and succeeding in an increasingly globalised market.

I have always been a self-motivated worker who is not afraid of a challenge. I am particularly drawn to management and marketing roles as they are often fast paced environments, involving different tasks and decisions each day. They also allow for a healthy balance between both independent and group work, which I believe is vital to running a successful business with engaged staff. My undergraduate work placement in an international marketing company enabled me to first-hand experience the fast-paced and efficient work style of successfully competing companies. I was also able to understand more about how to plan and manage a large staff force to make sure the business can perform and compete at optimum levels. Furthermore, last year I had a part-time job in a small local business which enabled me to learn and develop valuable skills in growth and future planning which are vital during the early stages of a young business.

In addition to my qualifications and work experience, I am a keen basketball player and often represent my club at the local leagues. Both my successes and failures in sporting competitions demonstrate my constant desire to improve and my determination to continue even in times of failure. I have also had the opportunity of being a team captain and coaching younger league games. Both roles allowed me to develop my leadership and strategy planning skills.

I am applying to your university because it offered the best array of modules for me to both improve my knowledge in my current interests and explore new areas of Business Management I am less familiar with. I was also particularly impressed by the wide array of connections the department has that will guarantee each student an invaluable work experience opportunity. I believe that your university will be the best institution to take my education to the next level and enable me to compete effectively as a strong candidate after graduation.

I think that I will be an excellent fit for your department as I enjoy involving myself in extracurricular activities. I am therefore excited to apply for leadership roles in the some of the postgraduate clubs and organisations the department offers. And, if the opportunity presents itself, I would be interested in creating and running my own project with my fellow peers.

BSc International Business Management Personal Statement Example 1

I look forward to studying for a BSc in International Business Management because I think the challenges of a future career in management in a rapidly changing environment excite me. My visits to Europe have made me aware of the importance of international issues and their necessity in today’s modern global economy.

At the GCSE level, my interest in entrepreneurship began when I was fascinated by businesses’ real-life struggles to remain solvent. Inspired by entrepreneurs who have turned small companies from start-ups to multinational corporations, I am determined to follow in their footsteps.

My A-Level ‘Applied Business’ course has allowed me to apply business theories in real-life settings, such as recruiting college students. I have developed communications skills through giving presentations, contributing to teams, and learning the importance of time management and prioritising tasks.

I have shown persistence and dedication to completing tasks to a high level. Furthermore, I have taken an active role in devising solutions to problems. From A-level Maths Statistics, I have gained the ability to solve problems independently without asking for help.

As well as increasing my knowledge of geography and French, I’ve learned that it is essential to understand how different cultures operate and that businesses must adapt to local conditions to succeed. I’ve also become better at planning and prioritising tasks, and I can now write essays and speak French fluently.

The ‘Young Enterprise Programme’ at college allowed me to take charge of a business venture. I learned how to manage people effectively, negotiate contracts and deal with problems. I also learnt to be diplomatic but to remain positive and determined.

When faced with obstacles, I remained optimistic and focused because I believed it was the only thing that would help us succeed. We made a profit of £1,200 selling personalised hoodies.

I am Chair of XYX, a charity fighting bullying in primary schools. My role involves organising events and making decisions. As part of the organisation, I help others design, carry out and evaluate activities and maintain good working relationships.

At ABC Optimus Services, I worked under the supervision of a senior manager and shadowed him for three weeks. During this time, I was introduced to various aspects of business management, including how large companies operate, negotiate contracts, evaluate employees, and manage projects. I also received training on the skills and characteristics needed to be successful in a leadership role.

As part of my Language Studies course at university, I have been interning in Bamie, a small local store in Germany. It has given me an insight into working in different types of stores and different cultures. I look forward to doing a placement year abroad as part of studying languages next year.

On top of that, I have helped at a Bencap Christmas party, sold fair trade products, collected for Christian Aid, marshalled the Faraday carnival downhill run, and ran in the ReachOut stretch.

My experience has taught me that I am good at managing people; I am organized, objective, practical, and quietly driven. These qualities have helped me become more open-minded and are a solid foundation for pursuing this degree.

How to Write a Top MBA Personal Statement (With Examples)

how to write an mba personal statement with examples

Working on your MBA application? You aren’t alone. In 2021, over 200,000 students graduated with an MBA degree making it the number one choice for graduate students for the 10th year in a row. And there’s good reason for this. According to the National Center for Education Statistics , post-MBA, grads can earn significantly more at work—experts estimate an additional $20,000 each year depending on the industry.

During the application process, you’ll want to stand out. A well-crafted personal statement will help distinguish you from other applicants. It serves as a powerful tool to showcase your unique experiences, skills, and aspirations to admissions committees. To make a lasting impression, tailor your personal statement to each MBA program you’re applying to, highlighting how your background aligns with their values and goals. For additional support, keep reading for some MBA personal statement examples and guidance.

Understanding the Foundations – Word Count, Templates, and Pricing

When you start your personal statement, keep the word count in mind. Make sure to write your statement succinctly. Templates can give crucial structure to a first draft and make sure you hit necessary points. Finally: is it worth it to hire a professional proofreader? We break down the pros and cons.

Word Count Considerations

A well-written personal statement is often the deciding factor in the business school admissions process. Conveying your thoughts concisely is a crucial skill in the business world, and future peers will be grateful for your brevity.

One strategy is to start with a longer draft and edit it down when revising. Remove unnecessary details and tighten wordy language. Focus on improving the quality of your content over meeting the maximum word count.

Templates as a Starting Point

Templates can help to organize your thoughts. Use them to provide structure and give your writing direction. By planning ahead, you can decide how much space you want to dedicate to each element—this can also help you meet the word count.

Remember: popular templates are popular for a reason, and following them too strictly can make your statement feel rigid and unoriginal. To avoid that pitfall, personalization is key. Your individual experiences, goals, and perspectives are all unique. What would a Master’s in Business Administration mean to you? Don’t be afraid to customize any template to fit your voice.

Professional Proofreading

Graduate schools know what a well-written personal statement looks like—and so do professional proofreaders. Experts can help catch small grammatical errors and improve clarity in your writing. It can be challenging to review personal writing from an objective standpoint. A good proofreader will streamline your writing and ensure overall coherence, improving your odds with your preferred school of business.

Unfortunately, this can be expensive. Pricing for these services can easily cost hundreds of dollars. If hiring one isn’t in the budget, here are some alternatives:

  • Find writing groups online or in person. Not only will you receive feedback, you’ll get a better idea of what other personal statements look like. Be prepared to help edit other statements.
  • Reach out to peers and mentors. Turn to people who know your voice and can tell when your writing is authentic. Make sure they aren’t afraid to give negative feedback.
  • Utilize free online resources. Writing tools like Grammarly or Hemingway help check grammar and sentence structure. They won’t help with essay format and aren’t infallible; double-check any changes they might suggest.
  • Read your statement out loud. This can help make sure your statement has a good rhythm and flows naturally.
  • Take breaks. Be your own set of fresh eyes. When you’re in the thick of writing, you might glaze over easy-to-spot details while you’re thinking of the big picture. Allow yourself to recharge and clear your head before you get back to it.

Tailoring Your Personal Statement to Top MBA Programs

Make sure to personalize your essays to specific MBA programs . Include details about specific classes and faculty, unique opportunities, and the strengths that make this program stand out.

Then, tie yourself into the narrative. What role would you fill as a graduate student or an alumnus? Consider your own strengths and where they align with this specific program. What career goals could this opportunity help you achieve?

Remember to mention your soft skills and other details that may not show up elsewhere on your application. Finally, shine a spotlight on your unique contributions in past roles.

Write a Captivating Introduction

A beautiful personal statement will be overlooked unless the introduction captivates the audience. You can begin with compelling anecdotes, personal stories, or influential quotes. Tie this introduction into your reason for pursuing an MBA. Make the reader care before launching into your achievements. Then, clearly state why you’re pursuing an MBA. Example: “From the dynamic intersections of global markets to the intricate strategies driving corporate success, the realm of business has always beckoned to me as a realm of boundless opportunity and perpetual evolution..”

Discuss Academic and Professional Background

Now it’s time to discuss what you’re bringing to the table. It’s okay to brag! Think about any key achievements or acquired skills that are transferable to an MBA program. What motivated you to apply? Example : “As a project manager at XYZ Corp, I navigated intricate challenges, demonstrating resilience and strategic thinking – skills I am eager to refine in a top-tier MBA program.”

Answer the Questions: Why an MBA? Why Now?

What does an MBA mean for your career goals ? Break down your short and long-term goals to answer this essay question. How do the skills you gain from earning an MBA connect to your plan? Research the program you’re applying for and use examples from the curriculum. Example : “My immediate goal is to transition from project management to strategic consulting, and Crummer’s MBA program’s focus on experiential learning and global business strategy perfectly complements my aspirations.”

Emphasize Soft Skills

Think about moments you demonstrated personal growth or teamwork. Are there any moments you stepped up to lead a project or team? Your past experiences will influence your habits in a graduate school setting. Example :  “Leading a cross-functional team on a high-stakes project not only honed my leadership skills but also taught me the importance of collaborative problem-solving, a cornerstone of Crummer’s MBA program. “

Spotlight Unique Contributions

What sets you apart from other applicants? Moreover, what impact will your unique perspective bring to the MBA cohort? Explain how your background will enrich the learning environment. Detail personal qualities and experiences that showcase your value.

how to make an mba personal statement engaging

Key Elements for a Powerful Personal Statement

Take a holistic approach to strike the right chord in your personal statement. Give admissions committees a more concrete impression of you. Weave in your qualifications, experiences, and aspirations. Don’t just mention your professional achievements—detail all of your positive qualities.

Showcase Work Experience

Be strategic when discussing your real-world work experience. If you can, including measurable results is a great way to show your professional impact. Earnings numbers, statistics, and other metrics will show off your professional experiences.

Articulate Career Goals and Aspirations

When discussing career goals for an MBA application, detail your short and long-term objectives clearly. Ambiguity can weaken your statement’s impact. Whether you’re joining a family business, starting your own business, or looking to go abroad for international business you should discuss how you see yourself navigating the business world. Connect these career aspirations to the MBA program.

Incorporate Extracurricular and Real-World Experiences

Touch on any extracurricular experiences like internships or entrepreneurship. Explain how these real-world experiences impacted your analytical skills, business acumen, and decision-making. If you’re an entrepreneur, touch on your journey or discuss the vision for your next startup.

You can also talk about moments where you demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Teamwork is critical to business leaders. Reflect on your leadership experience—the successes you’ve won and the lessons you learned.

writing an mba personal statement internships

Maintain Authenticity

Write authentically. Admissions officers want genuine stories. Give readers a reason to empathize with you. Overly formal and generic language can depersonalize your statement and keep readers at arm’s length.

Also, use conversational language. If something sounds clunky or unnatural, it probably also reads that way. Plus, the way you speak naturally showcases your personality. While you should always use proper grammar, don’t suck the life out of your statement in the name of sounding more “academic.” Use this opportunity to demonstrate your communication skills.

Navigating Common Challenges

Crafting your personal statements can be challenging! Let’s answer some FAQs.

How Do I Balance the Personal and Professional Aspects?

Be intentional about what you choose to mention from your personal life. Use elements that either contrast or emphasize your professional experience. How does your background influence your business philosophy? Make sure to keep a professional tone and align your statement with the admissions committee’s expectations and be prepared for any questions the interviewer could ask.

How Do I Handle Sensitive Topics?

If you’re writing about a sensitive topic, do so thoughtfully. You don’t know what type of people will be reading your statement, so be considerate and intentional about any details you choose to share.

However, your application essay should be a reflection of you. Sensitive subjects often play a major role in personal growth and development. Discuss what you learned from this challenging experience and how it influenced you.

How Do I Make My Writing Stand Out?

We’ve touched on all of the story elements you need—now trim the fat. Avoid common clichés and generic statements. Common phrases will dilute the unique perspectives in your personal statement. Make sure the language aligns with you. Avoid language that could apply to everyone when possible.

Other MBA Application Process Essentials – GMAT Score, GPA, and Statement of Purpose

The MBA application process is multifaceted and holistic. Alongside your statement, admissions committees also consider your GMAT scores and GPA. GMAT scores are used to gauge applicants’ aptitude for business studies, while GPA showcases your readiness for MBA rigor. If you have a lower score in either category, address these challenges by highlighting your other strengths, relevant experience, and resiliency. Remember: committees consider the entire application, not just scores.

The other factor in the application process is your Statement of Purpose or SOP. This will complement your personal statement. Make sure your SOP articulates your academic and career goals without echoing your other application essay. Avoid redundancy. Focus on the future: link the MBA program to your long-term plan. Take a forward-looking perspective and demonstrate how the MBA will work as a natural progression in your life.

Your personal statement should be as unique as you are. Start with a compelling narrative and a plan. Proofread your essay, and don’t be afraid to seek help from peers or professionals. Explain how your personal and professional life gives you the necessary skills to thrive at your desired program and be specific about what you want to do there. This is your chance to differentiate yourself from other applicants—take advantage!

  • 12 May, 2013

One of the most powerful tools in one’s possession is their knowledge through education, and I have been doing extensive research since my last graduation to narrow-down my prospective course of study. After much deliberation, I have decided to pursue MSc International Business with Advanced Practice programme at Ulster University to build up my skills in research and presentation as well as develop my knowledge and understanding in the worldwide business environment. In addition, the opportunity to apply my theories and ideas in practice through the Advanced Practice module will benefit me to enhance my skills and knowledge and to achieve a deeper understanding of the field of international business.

At Ulster University, the MSc International Business programme is designed to enable student’s skills, knowledge in international business theory, tools, and techniques as well as develop their strategic outlook globally. Besides this, the Advanced Practice stage will provide the opportunity to gain valuable workplace environment experience. However, in this globalized world, employers increasingly value graduates with international experience and education. That’s why I believe studying abroad will help me to overcome new challenges in my life and living in another country will give me a greater understanding of the world which play an important role in my future life. As I have a desire to expand my knowledge in International Business, the course will be a perfect destination for me for my future progression. Successfully completing this course will create different types of career sectors for me such as Management Analyst, International Trade Specialist, and Global Operations Manager. I will be able to grab those positions in some renowned companies in my home country easily.

My chosen MSc degree at Ulster University offers a range of distinctive modules which is designed to systematically and creatively inform business practice through the development of advanced knowledge and understanding. This has motivated me a lot to choose this MSc programme. The modules include Global Business in Context, International Finance, Global Marketing and Sales Development, The Digital landscape, Level 7 MSc Workshop, International HRM, Global Strategy Development & Implementation, International Business Research Skills, International Entrepreneurship, Internship & Professional Development Project, Dissertation, and Applied Research Project. After completion of this course, I aim to develop my career as a Global Operations Manager in an organization in my home country that holds a good reputation, such as Grameenphone, Pran-RFL Limited or I believe the programme will progress me both professionally and intellectually and help me to achieve my career objectives.

Following my SSC & HSC certificates, I had completed my Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from East West University, Bangladesh in 2016. To apply my learning, I undertook a job at Logic Soft, Bangladesh as a Marketing Officer since 2016 and I am still working here till date. I am a person who has a lot of interest in education. To cover my knowledge gap, I then pursued and earned my Master of Business Administration in Marketing degree from Southeast University, Bangladesh in 2018. I have great communication skills which have allowed me to deal with different situations that would come up in the practical world.

Furthermore, I always participate in international seminars. Through my experiences, I have 1 realized the need to be well equipped with knowledge in the field of business. For this reason, I have decided to continue my further study with this course and grow up my career. I hope I will demonstrate my academic ability to study at this level.

I am determined to study this course in the UK as the study environment in my country is quite different and we get to study with only the national students. The UK has a great multicultural and diversified student community which is an opportunity for me to learn with lot of students from different nationalities. UK education brand is highly respected by employers in our country as UK degree prepare graduates with academic competencies, developed personal and professional skills that are imperative for organizational success. The transferrable skills graduates carry forward from UK are pivotal for transforming organizational growth and gain competitive advantages. This is also a reason to study again in UK. In a recent Survey of International Graduate Outcomes 2019 by Universities UK International produced by iGraduate shows that 82% international graduates say that their UK degree are worth the financial investment and same percentage say they are satisfied or very satisfied with their careers. Nearly 83% feel that UK degree has helped them to get jobs. These aspects have driven my ambition to gain the degree from a UK institution. For this reason, I have decided to pursue this course in the UK.

I have chosen to study at Ulster University because it is one of the world’s top 150 universities under 50 years old according to Times Higher Education, Young University Ranking in 2020. 92% of Ulster graduates are employed or in further study within 6 months of graduating, according to DLHE. Furthermore, Ulster University has scored 100% satisfaction from students in the National Student Survey for six years (2014-2019), and the university is Winner of The Most Improved Student Experience according to Times Higher Education Awards in 2016. The degree courses are focused on industry-relevant education, and the university provides work- based learning and stimulating curriculum. Academic staffs are equipped with up-to-the-minute real-world expertise and features unparalleled links with top employers create career opportunities. The courses combine the quality of degree program with the commercial outlook of an international leader in training and talent development, to enhance students’ employability. Ulster University features teaching facilities that prepare students properly for the professional atmosphere and technological environment they can expect when they commence or progress their careers. I am eagerly waiting for the opportunity to study at Ulster University.

Personal Statement - International Business 2

International business personal statement 2.

Growing up in North Wales, where most of our industry is in the tourism sector, it became apparent to me how people can influence other countries economically and this brought me to think about the importance of the study of International Business.

My passion in business started at a young age as both my parents run their own company, and deal with places such as Holland, Belgium, and the USA. I feel fortunate that I was able to carry out a work experience shadowing and attended meetings aboard, which gave me a feel for International Relations. I find business an exciting and diverse, and can be found everywhere from a local corner shop, to a world wide plc.

I am currently building a website, as an extension of a gift store and Art gallery based in the local area, selling Welsh goods online such as Literature and Art. With no overheads and a worldwide online presence, it has allowed the gift store to generate sales on a relatively low profit margin which aided them during the recession when many people in the local area sadly lost their jobs.

The advantages of setting up the website have meant that my developing my understanding of international marketing has strengthened considerably. I started marketing the website by publicising the website into google search engine. I contacted a newspaper in Patagonia, who wrote a small feature of the gift shop and website, in order to market the website for people with an interest in their heritage. I have also contended with the practical matters such as dealing with Royal Mail in sending parcels aboard.

I self studied Maths, and History at A level which has been a demanding yet enjoyable experience. I noticed that History is a great tool to use when predicting economic and social issues in identifying patterns. Studying Europe in depth for academic and personal reading has helped me become aware of its social and economic challenges. I studied the history of civil libertarianism in France stretches back to the revolution in 1789, which has cultivated a business culture that favours consensus rather than individual leadership. My research of the backwardness of Russia before the Revolution exposed me to Karl Marx, who I find inspirational when we consider how to apply it throughout diverse Europe and the USSR.

I adore languages and feel privileged to live in a bi-lingual environment. I learnt Welsh when I was seven, and I am currently taking an online Spanish course. Family visits to France during the summer holidays since I was seventeen, has also given me a chance to practice my French with native speakers.

I am aware that English is the lingua franca of international business, it is still a love of mine that I shall find useful even after University when I enter the world of work. Many Europeans, especially the French who are traditionally very protective of their mother tongue, and as a prospective International Business student, I am very keen to embrace international cultures and improve my linguistics.

The course that I am applying for interests me because of the integrated year in a partner institution, which would allow me to explore the cultural context of management in another country, developing my knowledge that is needed in the increasingly international environment. I feel that it would also benefit my foreign language skills which would prove useful during my fourth year of study, exploring Business and Society in Contemporary Europe.

I keep my finger on the pulse through newspapers, and being a member of Amnesty International as I feel very strongly about Human Rights. I also participate with a debate team when my academic workload will allow me.

In my spare time, I sing with the Bangor University Choir, and play the Violin. I take part in Ballet, and I am very fond of literature. Taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge taught me the importance of preservation, drive and commitment, something which I value towards my studies.

I volunteer with the St John’s Ambulance offering assistance at important events such as the National Eisteddfod and have competed various First Aid courses. I also help out at a local farm which I enjoy very much.

I am eager to identify what I have observed in the workplace with academic theories but most of all, I am looking forward to working hard towards a mentally stimulating degree course.

International business management personal statement example 2.

"Why don't they hire somebody locally?" I was asking myself reading the newspaper article about the assignment of an expatriate to a position of general manager in an international company.

At that time I lived in Moldova and dreamed of becoming a manager in a TNC. Despite the fact that a large number of universities in my motherland provide the opportunity to study management, many foreign and local companies continue to employ expatriate managers, with the view that they are more responsible, credible and the level of their professional training is significantly higher.

How can they achieve better results working in a foreign environment? Do they experience difficulties related to national, social or cultural differences? And how can they adopt these differences positively for business development? These questions became a starting point for the development of my interest in business management in an international context.

The study 'Can Central and Eastern European management compete?' by TARGET International Executive Search and Henley Business School encouraged me to consider that maybe these companies had a point. I realized that companies are importing knowledge, expertise, perhaps even better and stronger management traits, with the sole aim of outing the needs of the business first, which they could not find locally. It got me thinking about the importance of obtaining a quality education, one that can be transferred across a range of business types and levels.

Such books as Lee Iacocca's autobiography and 'Blue Ocean Strategy' enhanced my interest in building a career as a manager. S. Finkelstein's book 'Why Smart Executives Fail' introduced me to the concept of synergy, which helped me to successfully combine several businesses under one umbrella during a school business project.

The suggestion to apply Kaizen process technique known as '5 Whys' led to a decrease in costs in my parents' manufacturing business. Deeper knowledge in the field of management I have gained from P. Drucker's book 'The Practice of Management', where the first sentence "The manager is the dynamic, life-giving element in every business" is absolutely in tune with my understanding of the manager's role in the modern world.

Being a very adaptable person I easily integrated into an unfamiliar environment and different educational system when I moved to the UK. I was impressed with the level of teamwork in college and this helped me to understand the difference between responsibility and accountability.

I immersed myself in business as a subject, and also try to embrace other related aspects too, through part-time Introduction to Accounting and A-level in Economics. The international economy module introduced me to the world of multinational corporations and allowed me to explore the advantages and disadvantages, which they can give to individual countries.

I feel that my experiences from volunteering, being a member of school senate and debate club will help me to become a good team member. Participation in SPARE International School Project not only showed me ways of cutting the energy consumption, but also convinced me in the ability to carry it out in Romanian, Russian and English languages.

A bi-cultural background and knowledge of four languages allowed me to develop skills, which are necessary for working with people of different nationalities and to be mindful to cultural nuances. Work experience in a recruiting agency helped to train myself in a real business environment, where I observed management styles of English and Portuguese teams working on a common project.

This is a great opportunity and honour for me to study in the UK, the home of the language that is lingua franca of the international business and diplomatic world. The degree in International Business Management will transfer me from the division of expatriate managers to the category of local managers with global vision and a new approach to business.
