Best Sites to Watch TV Shows Online for FREE

What are TV Show Online Websites?

Gone are the days when you’d cling to a television, waiting for the new episode of a TV series. Cord cutters are increasing rapidly thanks to the internet’s efficiency, ease, and comfort. Nowadays, TV show websites allow you to binge-watch a complete series in one day.

The best part? Many TV show sites are entirely free. You only need a phone or laptop and stable internet to enjoy your favorite shows in one go. The following post covers some of the best sites to watch free TV shows. Some are app-based, while others are accessible via web browsers. Let’s begin.

Attention, Read before you continue!

Governments and ISPs across the world monitor your online activities. If you are found streaming copyrighted content, you could get into serious trouble.

Currently, your IP is visible to everyone . I strongly recommend you get a trustworthy VPN and hide your identity so that your movie-viewing experience doesn’t take a bad turn.

I use  ExpressVPN , the fastest and most secure VPN in the industry. It is easy to install on any device, including Amazon Fire TV Stick, Smartphones, PC, macOS, iOS, and more. Also, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you don't like their service, you can always ask for a refund. ExpressVPN also has a special deal where you can get 3 months free and save 49% on an annual plan .

Are the TV Show Websites Safe & Legal?

The answer to whether TV show websites are safe and legal is a bit complicated. It’s not as straightforward as many would imagine. Let me explain.

Firstly, official sites like Pluto TV are entirely safe and legal. They don’t offer pirated content so you can access them without worries. However, many other unofficial platforms may contain pirated content. This is because such sites source the links from various third-party platforms.

Unofficial sites may also contain malware or viruses. Therefore, you must be careful and only access publicly available content. Moreover, you can invest in a good quality VPN like ExpressVPN . A Virtual Private Network (VPN) ensures your online activities remain anonymous and no one tracks your search data.

The sites on this list are curated based on various criteria, including their TV show database size, the video quality on offer, and the user interface. If you prefer movies, check out our list of the best free movie streaming sites . Let’s get down to it.

fmovies

Kicking off this list is FMovies, one of the oldest streaming sites. Cord-cutting TV series fans will recognize this site because of its vast selection of free TV shows. Although it also has a sizeable collection of movies, you’ll find many free TV shows here.

FMovies is excellent at finding the latest episodes. The content is updated frequently. On FMovies Home, you can open the side menu from the top-right side. Next, search for your favorite show via the search bar at the top.

You can also sign in using the Login button at the top right. You can explore content by genre, country, year, rating, quality, etc.

Overall, FMovies offers a vast database of movies and TV shows available in high-definition quality. The ads are minimal, so you’ll have an enjoyable streaming experience.

noxx

Noxx is a fantastic TV show-based site that will quickly become the go-to place for series lovers. This site is purely dedicated to TV series. You won’t find movies, anime, or other content types on Noxx, making it the top choice for TV buffs.

Fewer content categories mean less clutter and a more straightforward layout. Therefore, Noxx is easy to navigate and boasts a user-friendly design.

Talking about the content library, Noxx offers something for everyone. You can easily find TV shows across multiple genres, like Biography, Adventure, History, Drama, Crime, Comedy, Thriller, Music, Sci-Fi and more.

You can also utilize the search feature to find particular shows. Overall, Noxx is great for TV show fans. The no-BS design and dim theme are great for long binge-watch sessions. However, as it’s a free service, you should expect ad popups occasionally.

Tubi TV

Tubi is another free TV show streaming service. The website is 100% legal and features thousands of videos. Since the website is legit, there is no chance you will run afoul of copyright laws.

Unlike most legal sites, Tubi TV does not require you to sign up for the streaming service. You can watch TV shows online without creating an account. Simply opening the site grants you access to stream free media content.

However, signing up on Tubi has benefits. After registering, you can use features like curating watch lists of your favorite content and resume playback across devices.

Tubi is available on the web and in the app. It is officially available on all platforms, from Android to iOS and FireStick.

The design is neat, with most options and categories tucked into a Browse tab at the top of the screen. Hovering on that tab brings up various TV series and movie sections.

seez

Seez is a popular streaming service that lets you watch free TV shows and movies. The menu of Seez consists of Explore, Movies, TV Shows, and Collections.

By default, all sections use the popular filter to group the content. Titles on Seez have an attractive yet simple layout for easy browsing. The liberal use of white space is especially visually pleasing.

With Seez, there are no annoying popup ads once you click a link or blank space, as with many other streaming websites. This ensures that using the site to watch free TV shows is not a frustrating experience. Other prominent features of Seez are:

  • Help Center
  • Night/Day mode
  • Advanced search function
  • Collections

5. Smashystream

Smashystream

From the best-rated and popular TV series to the cult classics and the unknown, Smashystream is the all-in-one TV show hub. Smashystream’s impressive list of shows is just the tip of the iceberg.

The TV series on the site have their episodes regularly updated. You don’t have to wait several days to catch up on your favorite shows.

Shows aside, Smashystream also lets you stream movies. Mind you, those also get regular updates. I found the Smashystream website to be very user-friendly.

Like other streaming sites for free TV shows, it is powered by ads. Still, they are rare. Smashystream’s main menu is split into three tabs: menu, personal, and general.

The sub-sections are home, explore, search, bookmarked, history, profile, and log-in.

Inside each TV show’s home are sections like overall, cast, reviews, and seasons. All in all, SmashyStream is an excellent option for watching TV shows for free.

6.  Watch Series

watch series

Watch Series is another excellent platform for binge-watching all your favorite TV series. It’s mainly a series-centered platform, but you can access the Movies section to stream some new and amazing titles. The Watch Series Home menu features a clean and user-friendly design.

The main menu includes Home, Genre, TV Schedule, TV Shows, Top Series, Watch Movies, and Watch Series. You can access the Home menu to find and explore new series. Moreover, you can go to the TV Schedule section to view the upcoming episodes. Watch Series is a well-balanced site offering movies and TV shows.

It also offers a search facility to find particular content. However, one significant downside of the platform is the constant ad popups.

Understandably, free sites are mostly ad-supported, but Watch Series is completely loaded with annoying advertisements. You may eventually get annoyed trying to browse through.

Yidio

Yidio stands out from the other streaming services on this list. Many other free websites aggregate streaming links to movies and TV series, but Yidio is a dream for cord-cutting users.

Yidio effectively consolidates all your streaming sites in one place, allowing you to access content from many different websites simultaneously. This means that with Yidio, you can cut the time you would have spent exploring what various streaming websites have available.

You don’t need to register an account to use Yidio. Simply open the website or app to find the content you want to watch online for free. The exception to this is TV series and movies only intended for mature audiences.

Not all the content on Yidio is free. Even though it aggregates many free streaming sites, some other services are premium.

Still, there is much free content, with an entire category aptly labeled Free. There’s even a category that indexes the free content that you can watch on paid services.

8. Primewire

prime wire

Primewire’s user interface looks like an old-school MP3 streaming site from the 2000s. But don’t let the looks fool you. This free streaming site has thousands of high-quality movies and TV shows across various genres.

You can stream in standard or HD quality depending on your connection speed. Primewire also lets you download TV series and movies for offline viewing. If you are an anime fan, this site has you covered. There are several popular anime series to choose from, as well as some obscure ones.

Even though Primewire looks dated, it is intuitive. There are several categories to browse through, including genres, the latest uploads, and rankings. In addition, it comes with a search feature with advanced filter capabilities.

You can filter your search query based on metrics such as quality, release year, subtitle, genre, and country of release. Lastly, Primewire lets you create an account to enjoy exclusive features.

crackle

If you regularly use free streaming sites, you may have heard of Crackle . This streaming site became hugely popular when it was owned by the media giant Sony Pictures. Sony has since sold the company to Chicken Soup for Soul Entertainment.

Crackle is home to popular video-on-demand movies and TV series. It also provides original content. Crackle would not have made this list a couple of years ago, as its library of TV shows paled compared to movies. However, more TV series are now regularly added to the site.

Crackle is available for users in the US and 20 other countries, including Canada, Australia, and countries in Latin America. Its US library is easily its biggest and comes with a broader range of content. If you live outside the country, you need a VPN service to enjoy Crackle’s content.

The streaming service delivers its content in three languages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese. It is also multi-platform, with apps for Android and iOS on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

10. Pluto TV

pluto tv

Pluto TV is not just a traditional streaming site. It’s closer to cable TV and offers many live channels and on-demand content. The Pluto TV site offers access to over 200 free channels.

12. Popcornflix

Popcornflix

Popcornflix does not offer a vast selection of TV shows. However, it is included on this list because it is a legal streaming service with many exciting features. If you love classic TV shows, this website will suit you. Several 90s movies and TV shows are available for free here. You’ll also find lots of originals and web series.

Popcornflix features a beginner-friendly user interface. No sign-up is required to watch TV shows online with Popcornflix. Streaming is a one-click process. Select any of the categories available, choose a title you find interesting, and you are ready. You can explore several genres, and there’s a search bar to help you find any TV show or movie you’re looking for.

Like Crackle, Popcornflix is owned by Chicken Soup for Soul Entertainment. The streaming site has been around since 2011. Since then, it has attracted a respectable, loyal base of visitors who are fans of independent movies and series.

Popcornflix is only accessible in the US and Canada unless you use a VPN . In addition to its website, Popcornflix is an app on several platforms, including Android, FireStick, iOS, PlayStation, and Xbox.

sflix

SFlix is a popular streaming site for watching movies and TV shows. Although it offers everything a free streaming site should, its layout sets it apart.

SFlix has a premium and appealing layout. The contrasting colors, unique menu buttons, and website design will make you wonder whether it’s a premium site.

However, that’s not all. SFlix’s fantastic movie and TV show collection will keep you returning for more. You can stream new TV shows, old classical series, and everything else.

You can also find content in multiple genres, such as action, comedy, romance, fantasy, etc. In other words, you won’t be disappointed if you decide to stream through SFlix.

14. LookMovie

look movie

It may be called Look Movie, but don’t worry; this streaming site has an ample supply of TV shows available to watch online for free. The content on this site is updated daily, with the latest TV show episodes accessible very soon after they get aired. This makes it one of the best streaming websites for watching TV shows online.

The categories for series on LookMovie include action, adventure, crime, comedy, horror, mystery, drama, and many more. The filter feature is an effective tool for sorting through available options.

With this tool, you can sort through genres, years, and ratings and choose between having the oldest or newest listed first.

Streaming is straightforward and largely reliable on LookMovie. No annoying ads constantly bug you and redirect you to other sites.

Not all the TV shows are in HD, though. Still, they are not low-quality and are reasonably straightforward to watch.

You can filter the search results using the Genre, Country, or Year buttons. The best thing about M4UFree is the Top Day, Top Week, and Top Month sections.

These allow new users to find popular and trending movies and TV series. All the available content can be streamed in HD.

Furthermore, you can find each title’s rating, run time, genre, and country details. Overall, M4UFree is a popular option for most users as it offers a user-friendly layout and a great selection of movies and TV shows.

16. NetFilm

NetFilm

NetFlim claims to feature a library containing streaming links for thousands of TV shows and movies. However, that claim cannot be verified. One thing is for sure: this website is home to a massive amount of media content.

NetFilm contains many TV shows and movies that you can stream in high definition. Like other services, NetFilm doesn’t host the content on its servers. Instead, it pulls links from non-affiliated third-party websites.

Speaking of UI, NetFilm’s design is majestic. It’s effortlessly user-friendly, with easy-on-the-eye sections and subfolders. There is no clutter, making it easy to browse.

17. Prime Video

Binge with the best free streaming services including Freevee, Pluto, Tubi and more

Freevee on a television screen

Tired of paying a hefty streaming bill? The best free streaming services let you watch popular movies and TV shows — without paying a single cent. These free streaming services offer both live TV and on-demand content, mostly older and classic titles but also some newer hits and originals.

The best streaming services have more than proved their usefulness in entertaining everybody at home. But signing up for all of them is just not financially feasible for most people. That’s where the best free streaming services come in. They can provide hours of free TV and movies at no cost. You will have to watch ads, but that’s no different than what you get through an expensive cable package. Again: They’re free!

And since they cost $0, you can sign up for all of the best free streaming services on our list. We've ranked them anyway since nobody has an endless amount of time.

Amazon Freevee on a web browser

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

Amazon Freevee , a rebrand of the service formerly known as IMDb TV, features an impressive library of free on-demand content. The TV selection consists of the typical free shows like Hell's Kitchen but also past hits like Lost, Desperate Housewives and Mad Men. Plus, Freevee also makes originals, like the revivals Bosch: Legacy and Leverage: Redemption and courtroom reality sensation Jury Duty.

The movie lineup is better than competitors, with recent titles including Deadpool, The King of Staten Island, Spy, Emma and The Invisible Man.

2. Roku Channel

The Roku Channel app comes automatically with any Roku TV or device, but it’s also available for download on mobile phones and tablets. You can also access it on the web. The Roku Channel doesn’t force you to register for an account (you can watch as a guest) but signing up allows you to continue watching content on another device.

Like the other services, it offers on-demand movies and TV shows. The Roku Channel also rolled out a Roku Live TV Guide , so viewers can channel surf. The best part of Roku Channel is that it often streams the first episodes of premium cable shows, like Game of Thrones, Billions, Outlander and Watchmen. But when it comes to having whole shows, you don't have series of that caliber, but stuff like This Old House instead. Some of our staff lit up at that news, while others, well, we kept clicking around in Roku looking for something else. And remembering that Peacock is better for more-recent content.

The Roku Channel has risen in our free streaming service rankings after adding all the originals from the now-defunct Quibi. That includes some really good series, like Free Rayshawn and Reno 911. Roku is also the place for original movies like Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Plus, they get our thanks for saving the NBC-canceled series Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist with a Christmas special.

3. Pluto TV

The Viacom-owned Pluto TV has a decent selection of on-demand movies and shows but where it really shines is in live TV streaming. Viewers can browse live channels in a grid, similar to the cable TV guide experience. The lineup draws heavily from Viacom’s other properties, so you can tune into TV Land Drama, BET Her, MTV's Jersey Shore and VH1's I Love Reality. They also offer other recognizable brands, like CNN and Fox Sports — though those run curated clips, not the actual live broadcast you’d see if you watched them on cable.

We're still waiting for Pluto to add dedicated channels for shows that we really care about — recent editions include Baywatch, Stargate and Degrassi — but we do know people who love those shows, and keep going back to Pluto to binge-watch. For more modern content, check our Peacock.

As we poked around Pluto, we noted its interface is clean and simple, making it easy to toggle between live and on-demand. Both are organized into categories, making it easy to find the kind of content you want to watch. Yes, there are ads, but no more than what you’d get watching cable. And Pluto TV doesn’t even require registration, though users can special features if they do sign up for an account, such as the ability to designate favorite channels and resume watching a program on a different device. As for the latest, a recent update to Pluto TV added a ton of free TV , including two huge channels: Rocky and Sailor Moon.

The home page in tubi

Think of Tubi as a free version of Netflix, with an on-demand library of over 20,000 movies and TV shows. Of course, Tubi doesn’t have the newer, high-profile titles that a subscription platform boasts, nor originals. But their catalog is still impressive for a free streaming service.

Tubi (now owned by Fox Corporation) was able to build it by partnering with over 250 providers, including Hollywood heavyweights Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM. Recent available titles include The Terminator, Foxcatcher, Kill Bill, The Craft and Fruitvale Station. Personally, our streaming media editor Henry T. Casey loves Tubi for one show and one show only: Lucha Underground, a stylized wrestling show on El Vez. Recently, Tubi added the former HBO series The Nevers.

Tubi has a clean, streamlined experience. When we tested Tubi, we saw that its home page is organized into sections like Recently Added, Family Movies, Action and Black Cinema. Clicking the menu for even more genres and curated collections, we saw the clever and cheeky Not on Netflix area. While you don’t have to sign up to use Tubi, registering for an account gives you access to parental controls, a queue and viewing history.

the crackle home screen

Crackle is a pioneer in the free streaming space, launching in 2004 — back when Netflix was still shipping DVDs. Owned by Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Crackle houses free movies and TV shows and even original programming, which sets it apart from many of the other free streaming services on this list. Crackle doesn’t require registration, though an account lets you add favorites and save progress while watching a movie.

The movies library is much bigger than the TV one and much more interesting. Crackle is one of the best free streaming services because it goes further than most, with originals featuring top actors including Martin Freeman, Bryan Cranston and Rupert Grint. It's just that these are their lesser-known titles, and while we're open to discover new projects, we're also wary that there may be a bad reason why we don't known about these shows.

Unlike Peacock, Crackle doesn't require signing up for a service to watch content. You can just open their page, click on a show or movie, watch and ad and then see the thing you want.

6. Sling Freestream

Sling is one of the best cable TV alternatives in the market at $40 per month for 50-plus channels. Recently, they relaunched a no-cost service with the name Freestream that boasts live and on-demand content. We love Sling, as multiple TG staffers have used it to cut the cord, and a free version may be the ticket to getting more users to try the platform.

Sling Freestream launched with 210 channels and 41,000 on-demand titles across genres including news, sports, game shows, crime dramas, nature, home improvement and cooking. Some of the channels are familiar names like ABC News Live, ESPN On Demand, Family Feud, Forensic Files, Hell's Kitchen, Rick Steves Europe, VH1 I Love Reality and The Walking Dead Universe. Plus, users can add on premium streaming services like AMC Plus and Showtime.

Expect more channels and on-demand titles as Sling Freestream continues to build out its offering.

the free movies page in vudu

The Walmart-owned Vudu is a digital marketplace where you can purchase the latest movies and TV shows but also stream free content. To use Vudu, you will have to sign up for an account (or use your Walmart account). Once you do that, you can access over 10,000 free movies and TV episodes. None of them are new blockbusters but the selection is superior among free streaming services. The movies area is better than TV, with recent titles including Troy, The Prestige, All Is Lost, Hoosiers, Four Weddings and a Funeral. And unlike other free services, Vudu is planning to produce original shows, like the sci-fi series Albedo with Evangeline Lilly.

Testing Vudu out, we found that its interface is easy to use. Free content is clearly marked and you can filter for just free titles. The ads are about as frequent as other free services, but they tend to be more repetitive (and sometimes annoyingly interactive, requiring you to choose an option). Poking around Vudu's free section, though, we couldn't help but notice multiple titles that seemed a bit risque for the top of the stack — titles that we'd have a hard time explaining to kids. That's not a problem on most of the above services, as Peacock, Pluto, Roku Channel and other services don't promote that content as highly.

Watch Vudu here

the Channels view on xumo

Xumo is another free streaming service with live and on-demand content. The app comes on several major smart TV brands and can also be downloaded on Roku , iOS and Android. No registration is required. Xumo offers more than 190 channels, including top brands like NBC News, Fox Sports, Funny or Die and TMZ.

Xumo’s main experience is a grid-type guide, just like you’d get with cable TV — and Pluto and Peacock. You can watch live as you channel surf. The on-demand area lists all the channels, broken down by genre. The interface doesn’t make it that easy to see what TV shows are available, though. It looks like Xumo has the usual free fare: 21 Jump Street, Forensic Files, Family Feud and Unsolved Mysteries. The mobile app at least has a movies tab that you can browse.

Watch Xumo here

The Peacock TV home page on an Xfinity device

Note: Peacock Free is being sunset for new users. Existing account holders will still be able to access Peacock Free for the present.

NBC's Peacock TV is a behemoth, with over 13,000 hours of content available in its Peacock Free tier. That content is top-notch, too. You'll find titles like The Office, 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica, Cheers, Friday Night Lights, Parenthood and Parks and Recreation. And there are a lots of older movies to watch, from Harry Potter to Jurassic Park.

When we used Peacock, to see what it's like, we found that the free tier is definitely a sort of gateway drug. It's nice that the first episodes of big-name original shows such as Girls5Eva are available for free, but we get that NBCUniversal doesn't want to give whole shows away — that's what the $4.99 Peacock plan is for (although it might come in a little less with the right Peacock TV promo code ). Peacock Free didn't require us to to enter our credit card info, but you must create an account to watch — something that Pluto, Xumo and others don't enforce.

There are also "live" channels, based on brands like Saturday Night Live and the Today Show. If you don't know what to watch , channel surf and check out what's playing at the moment. All in all, we'd call Peacock Free a steal — but it doesn't cost anything! Check out our full Peacock review to learn more.

How we test the best free streaming services

Shows and movies on free streaming services come and go with the frequency of Spinal Tap drummers, red-shirts on Star Trek and roses on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

So, first and foremost, we check these services frequently to make sure they're still providing some good content (specific shows and movies are subject to the whims and contracts we're not privy to).

On top of that, we also look at these services on the best streaming devices to make sure that everyone gets a quality experience. This is how we know that Freevee is more prominent on Fire TV hardware than elsewhere.

Lastly, we do the hard work and actually watch the shows and movies, to make sure these apps actually work well. We don't expect them all to function as well as paid services, but we love it when they have the same high-quality apps.

How to choose the best free streaming service for you

Luckily, since they are all free, you don’t need to choose just one of the best free streaming services. However, you may find it difficult to balance a bunch of different apps and want to focus on just one or two.

The first consideration should be whether you want to be able to watch live channels. If that’s the case, you may want to use Pluto TV, Sling Free, Xumo, Peacock or the Roku Channel. If you only care about finding movies and TV shows on-demand, then try Freevee, Peacock, Crackle, Tubi or Vudu.

Content selection is the other major thing that distinguishes the free streaming services from each other. Aside from Peacock, with its library of name-brand content, almost all of them have the same core of free TV shows, like Hell’s Kitchen and Roseanne. But some, like Freevee and Crackle, have more robust movie libraries. Others provide access to top past shows, like Peacock and the Roku Channel. So, peruse the available titles and see if the streamer has options that appeal to you. After all, even if these services are free, doesn’t mean they have stuff you want to watch.

  • Sid23 Buy a Roku. I just bought a Roku streaming stick 4K and am using it on my old Samsung (2013) non smart tv. As long as it has an HDMI port and is within distance of good WIFI signal you can get all those apps on the Roku. I got the streaming stick because it is supposed have long range WIFI reach. It is usually $49.99 and now is on sale online only for $29.99 (Walmart) I still have cable and am using the Rokus to get rid of cable boxes. Working my way slowly to cutting the cable. Reply

  • Mikeylito I wonder whether this article is an updated regurgitation of an earlier article. Walmart hasn't owned VUDU since 6 July 2020. It's owned by Fandango Media, which is owned by WarnerMedia (25%) and NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast. Comcast also owns XUMO and Peacock Free, which are also on your list. Some watchers like myself wonder what Comcast will do with these different services. Reply

I skipped watching when SYFY re-ran this show because I thought I had free access through the Peacock website.. nah, I'm screwed
  • mark_887797 Meh. None of the recommendations are good. Lots of OLD free content. Your best bet is to search Reddit and use an APK on your Android device. If you want to use a PC then Kodi is what you want to use. It's free although some "channels" require you to have a Real Debrib or Premiumize. You can also buy a Taiwanese TV box (Android) called EVPAD and Unblock Ubox for a few hundred US dollars and never have to pay for a subscription. Reply

If you're a millennial looking for some serious childhood nostalgia, you'll want to check out Popcornflix's 90's TV offering featuring classics such as The Legend of Zelda , Sonic the Hedgehog , The Adventures of Super Mario 3 Bros., and more.

Its TV show offering isn't exactly huge, but it might be worth checking out if you're looking for something different. Preroll ads will also play when you start watching, but you can start watching anything without having to sign up for a free account if you're just looking to try it out quick.

Tubi: 100% Legal and Unlimited TV Show Streaming

Access to thousands of shows and movies from well-known studios.

Multi-platform availability.

New content added weekly.

Tracks your viewing history.

Targeted advertising platform.

No clear way to filter TV shows from movies.

Tubi is another alternative that operates legally through license agreements. And just like Crackle, it also includes movies.

Tubi is totally free with a user account, which you can use to set up your watch queue or pick up where you left off from watching something previously. The platform tracks your viewing history so that it can learn about your preferences to make better suggestions for you.

Browse through all your standard categories such as Action, Drama, Comedy, and others or take a look at some of the interesting categories like Cult Classics and   Highly Rated on Rotten Tomatoes. With over 50,000 shows and movies available and more being added all the time, Tubi TV is quickly growing to become a TV favorite for internet users everywhere.

Crackle: Watch Hit TV Shows and Crackle Originals

Availability on numerous platforms.

Easy-to-navigate interface.

Access to hit movies in addition to TV shows.

Only available in the U.S. and Australia for free.

Little unique content.

Very loud commercials.

With Crackle, you can watch full episodes of your favorite TV shows (in addition to movies) and create personal watch lists so you can keep track of everything you're watching.

Since it's a totally free service with accessibility across multiple major platforms (including mobile with the free Crackle app), there are some commercials rolled into the programming. Regardless, Crackle is a great alternative that you can enjoy viewing on your computer or with one of its apps on your mobile device.

All you need to do is create a free account to start watching. Select the TV tab in the top menu or search for a show title, then choose the episode you want and enjoy.

You can also use filter options to browse through shows based on genre, alphabetical order, recently added, full episodes, clips, trailers and what's coming soon.

Pluto TV: Watch Some of Your Favorite TV Channels

Good mix of live and on-demand shows.

Similar to traditional cable television.

Desktop and mobile apps available.

Ads appear at awkward times.

Limited availability of new shows.

Website isn't secured with an SSL certificate.

With the live-streaming Pluto TV platform, you can channel surf over 100 free channels in genres such as news, entertainment, sports, comedy, and more.

Some of the content is live and some of it isn't. It's a bit like RabbitTV Plus, except you don't have to pay an annual fee to watch.

It's similar to traditional cable; you can check out what's currently on without a goal in mind for what to watch. Although you won't be able to catch hit network shows, you'll be able to tune into many major networks' news broadcasts and find familiar episodes of other relatively popular shows.

Yidio: A Simple Site That Searches the Web for Shows on Your Behalf

Excellent user interface.

Covers the basic pay services.

Points to some pay services.

Not optimized for delivering movies and TV.

Similar to ShareTV, Yidio is a TV show source aggregator that points you in the direction of other third-party hosts where you should be able to watch a particular episode.

You can use the right sidebar to browse by genre and the menu at the top to filter available shows by what's available on several premium streaming services. Of course, if you're looking for something to watch for free, you'll want to select the Free filter.

When you select a show, you'll be shown a summary based on IMDb info along with several thumbnails of episodes that are available. Select any thumbnail to be taken to the specific episode listing.

The downside to using Yidio is that its free listings aren't the most accurate or update to date, and you may come across a show that only has short clips rather than full episodes available to watch for free despite its listing in the Free category. There are lots of ads to Amazon, Google Play and iTunes in the way, but if the episode is indeed free, links to free sources (such as YouTube) will be available at the very bottom for you to click on.

Vudu: Watch a Range of Popular Network Shows

Large selection of shows.

Ability to filter free content.

Ability to download content to watch offline.

Required to create an account in order to watch.

Multiple ads for free content.

Few current shows.

Vudu is Walmart's pay-per-use TV show and movie streaming service, with a number of shows and movies available to watch for free. The free ones have ads, but for a platform that offers high-quality, relatively popular shows from networks like CBS, Fox, HBO and more, those ads are definitely tolerable.

You can filter TV shows by genre or select the checkbox for Free TV only, which filters out all the paid content so all you see is what's available to watch for free. As a nice bonus, you can also browse by Most Watched, Release Date and Recently Added to find hidden gems you might not be able to find otherwise.

Shout Factory TV: Cult Classics for Retro Entertainment Lovers

Really nice selection of cult/classic shows that are hard to find.

All content is available to watch for free.

Ability to filter both film and TV shows by genre.

No user account feature to save shows to watch later.

Free content is accompanied by ads.

Shout Factory TV delivers over 2,000 hours of cult and classic TV shows that have helped shape today's pop culture. This is a site where you'll be able to find some of the most well-known shows and flicks that many other sites simply don't have, making it a worthwhile site to add to your bookmarks.

Everything can be watched for free with ads, or you can opt to get an ad-free subscription. As a digital channel, Shout Factory TV is also available on a variety of popular platforms including Apple TV, Roku, Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Prime, Twitch and more.

The major downside to using this site on the web is that there doesn't appear to be a user account creation feature. So if you want to sign into an account to save videos, get new suggestions and pick up where you left off on what you were watching, you're out of luck.

Internet Archive: The Internet's Official Library of Content

Great layout and ability to search/filter through thousands of pieces of content.

Lots of info for each show, including descriptions and reviews.

Ability to save shows to watch again or later through a user account.

Not the ideal place to find current or trending shows.

Overwhelming library of mostly old content.

The Internet Archive isn't an official streaming service, but it's one of the best places to look for public access of digital content. You can access old websites, software, games, music, video content and a massive library of public domain books.

In its Television section, you can browse through TV recordings that include shows, commercials and even government proceedings. Many of these pieces of content have hundreds of thousands of views.

Content is organized into collections based on type. You can also use the filters on the left side to find shows by year, topic, collection, creator and language.

YouTube: Where Some of the Best Shows Might Be Hiding

Most people are already familiar with YouTube's interface and search tools.

Lots of related content, like fan cuts or highlight reels from movies and TV shows.

Strictly, most of the uploaded videos aren't licensed, making it likely that some infringement is going on.

YouTube is not intended to deliver movies or TV shows; it's optimized for user uploads.

Lots of people don’t realize that YouTube is actually a great place to look for television shows. While you won't exactly get access to the most current or popular shows (unless you pay), nor a guaranteed high-quality viewing experience, you might still be pleasantly surprised by what's available on the web’s largest video sharing network.

Just search for a show title and see what comes up. For example, if you search Boy Meets World —an old ABC family sitcom from the 90s—several uploaded episodes from virtually every season will come up. On the other hand, if you search for Grey's Anatomy —a more current and popular television drama—you'll notice results will come up where you'll have to pay a fee to stream it legally on YouTube.

Some people get away with uploading popular TV show episodes for a certain time before they're eventually reported or caught by YouTube. Depending on the timing and the show you're looking for, you might be able to find something that actually shouldn't be there due to copyright restrictions.

TVPlayer: Catch Up on the Latest British Shows (UK Only)

Good selection of channels, with a focus on British television.

Sleek, easy-to-use design.

Free tier is limited.

Ad presence seems a bit heavier than other options.

If you are in the UK or love UK programming, then you'll want to know about TVPlayer. This free TV streaming service offers 95 channels for free on both desktop and mobile devices, including shows that are currently airing live.

30 premium channels are available to users who upgrade to a Plus account for a monthly fee. (Sorry, U.S. readers; this site is just for readers across the pond.)

Free channels include popular ones like BBC 1, Discovery, ITV, Dave, Five, History, Lifetime and many more. All you have to do to sign up is create an account with your email address, verify your account creation and start watching!

Obviously, the big downside with this one is that it's restricted to users in the UK. If you're located somewhere else, like in the US, you can still create an account and sign in, but if you try to watch something, TVPlayer will first check to make sure you're in the UK and will block access if you're not.

Given that so many people have discovered the many advantages of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), it's possible that you could get around TVPlayer's geographical restrictions if you tried. Having said that, more streaming services are seriously cracking down on the VPN trend (like Netflix for example, so don't be surprised if TVPlayer doesn't work with your VPN either!

Don't Forget Your Favorite Network's Website!

If you have a TV show you love and you want to watch it for free because you missed it or maybe you don't get that channel, a great way to catch up on it is to visit the network's website and see if it's available for streaming.

All of the networks below show some full episodes but also clips as well.

Here are some of the popular TV networks out there that provide options for streaming their TV shows:

  • USA : Part of NBC, the USA Network brings you access to all of your favorite USA shows, including full episodes the day after they've aired.
  • ABC : They have full-length videos of the latest episode of every show as well as video clips, highlights, and sneak peeks into all your favorite ABC shows.
  • CBS : At CBS you can watch shows for free after they've aired on CBS. There are quite a few advertiser interruptions during the streaming video, but you'll know when they're coming because they are clearly marked on the screen.
  • DisneyNOW : You can watch Disney channel movies at DisneyNOW. There's a page that lists all the shows you can watch, plus some fun category pages.
  • FOX : FOX posts free TV shows for you to watch one day after they've aired on TV but they remain locked so that you can watch them until eight days after they've aired.
  • The CW : The day after the CW television shows air you'll be able to watch them for free at their website.

You might be required to provide your television provider information to watch certain streaming content on network platforms.

25 best free streaming sites for movies and TV: Legal and safe options

Free streaming sites for movies and TV

Looking for the best free streaming sites for movies and TV? We’ve compiled a list of the 25 best free streaming options across a range of content that you can view completely for free anywhere, whether you are in the US or abroad.

The best free TV and movie streaming services provide a safe and legal alternative to torrents and websites that illegally stream content. Websites that rely on torrents or unlicensed content streaming are more likely to carry malware or put users at risk of copyright infringement lawsuits.

Although there are no subscription fees, most free streaming sites use geographic content restrictions . So if you are currently traveling abroad, the only way to access free streaming sites back home is by using a Virtual Private Network , or VPN, that gives you a local IP address for your home country.

Note: Comparitech only recommends streaming services that have the legal rights to stream content, and only recommends using a VPN to access legally available TV shows and movies. Comparitech does not condone or support the use of piracy websites or services.

Below, we explore the 25 best free streaming sites you can use anywhere in the world, and when necessary, how to access their content libraries with a VPN.

How to use a VPN to stream free TV shows and movies

A VPN will help you securely access almost any free TV streaming service. Below we explain how to set up and run a VPN to change your IP address and watch free streaming sites for TV shows and movies.

Here’s how to use a VPN to stream free TV shows and movies:

  • First, sign up for a VPN service of your choice. NordVPN works well for most streaming services, although Surfshark and ExpressVPN are reasonably-priced alternatives.
  • Download and install your chosen VPN app onto the device you plan to use for free streaming. Unfortunately, most VPN services have no available app for some popular TV-connected devices (like the Roku) and most gaming consoles.
  • Connect to a VPN server in the country where the free streaming services you want to use offer on-demand or live content. Most options we’ve listed geo-block any IP address outside the US, but there are several that US customers won’t be able to access without a VPN.
  • Once connected , visit the streaming service website or app and try to load a stream. If it plays, you’re all set!

There’s a chance your streams won’t play on some devices despite a VPN connection . You may still get a message stating that your access is blocked. If that happens, try launching the website in a private web browsing instance (such as Incognito mode in Chrome). Additionally, delete cookies , clear your browser cache , and turn off browser or device location requests.

Why do I need a VPN for free TV streaming?

Most free streaming services are ad-supported. Ad-supported models typically result in lower profit margins, so services are usually forced to impose geographic content restrictions as part of the licensing agreement.

A  VPN will allow you to easily bypass these geographic content restrictions while traveling abroad. A VPN allows you to connect to an internet server back home in a country where the service is available. And thanks to anonymization technology, the VPN will prevent the streaming service from detecting your real location and identity .

There are hundreds of VPN providers on the market. Picking one that works to unblock free streaming sites and protect your privacy can be a challenge given how dense the market is.

The best VPNs for free TV streaming should meet the following criteria:

  • Offer high-speed servers in dozens of countries (especially the US)
  • Utilize well-respected privacy and security measures to protect your identity, particularly by providing a no-logs policy and data leak mitigation
  • Provide multiple pricing options with discounts for longer service periods and a money-back guarantee
  • Effectively works with the service you want to use
  • Provides fast customer support and multiple ways to contact customer support
  • Has app compatibility with multiple devices and operating systems

As an added note, we recommend you avoid free VPNs . They’re less secure, track your data, may sell your data to third parties, may display advertisements, usually have slower server speeds, and importantly, have data caps that make it impossible to stream TV shows and movies for more than a few minutes.

Best free streaming sites for TV shows and movies

We searched through hundreds of TV and movie streaming options to discover which services had free tiers, ad-supported subscription models, or free-to-air content. The following list comprises the 20+ services that have the best free streaming catalogs across a wide variety of genres. Some are not geo-restricted anywhere; however, most will require you to have a US IP address or a VPN that will give you one.

1. ABC News Live

abc news live free streaming

If you’re hungering for TV news programs, you can’t go wrong with ABC News Live . The service provides completely unrestricted access to live news content directly from ABC News and operates 24/7.

This is a single-channel option for individuals who want to watch US news. What’s more, you don’t need a VPN to watch ABC News Live, regardless of where you live. It’s a truly free option for US news, without restrictions. ABC News Live is even accessible without a VPN in China , which often restricts content from Western countries like the US.

This site puts ads on all video content, which is to be expected. You can stream ABC News Live through its dedicated app on Android, iOS, Roku, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire TV, or you can watch using any modern web browser.

2. Adult Swim

adult swim free tv streaming

Originally part of Comedy Central, Adult Swim is now its own, separate TV network currently owned by WarnerMedia. The WarnerMedia ownership gives Adult Swim access to not just a selection of Warner’s content, but a fairly large library of TV shows that you’ll only find on Adult Swim—including the ever-popular cartoon action-comedy, Rick and Morty.

This service has 100+ titles available on-demand . Much of its content library is offered free-with-ads, while many episodes require you to log in with a cable TV service provider, such as Hulu + Live TV. In both cases, you’re trying to stream Adult Swim outside the US.

If you try to connect from outside the US, Adult Swim will display a message that says “ BLOCKED: Sorry, there must be some sort of restriction on the content we are streaming here. Come back later or select another stream”.

If you see this message from your location, use NordVPN to connect to a US server so you can acquire a US IP address and zoom right past the geographic content blocking. We’ve found NordVPN easily unblocks what Adult Swim offers for free.

charge free tv streaming

Charge! is one of several genre-specific TV streaming provides that focuses on 24/7 live streaming with an ad-supported model. Charge! is geared toward fans of action TV, although it does offer some sports content on occasion.

To reiterate, this is not an on-demand streaming service. All of its TV shows and movies are broadcast live. Its model means it operates like traditional over-the-air TV stations, except that its content streams online.

If you try to connect from outside the US, Charge! will display the following message: “This stream is not available in your area” .

Connecting to a VPN server in the US easily bypasses this message and allows you to watch all content streaming live through Charge!. If you don’t want to use a web browser, there’s an iOS app available that you can pair with a VPN app for iOS devices.

comet free tv streaming

If you think Comet looks familiar, you’re right. It’s owned and operated by Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which also owns and operates Charge! The only difference between Charge! and Comet is that Comet is focused on science fiction TV shows and movies.

To that end, everything we said about Charge! above applies to Comet, right down to how it operates and where you’ll find available apps for watching it outside of a web browser. You’ll even see the same location-based blocking message if you try to stream Comet from outside of the US. NordVPN easily unblocks content streaming free through Comet as long as you’re connected to any US server.

CONtv free tv streaming

CONtv began its life in 2007 as the streaming service Viewster. Content distributor Cinedigm purchased the website in 2019 and rebranded it. Alongside a new name, CONtv also upended the content library. What was once a free service focused on anime is now a free service focused on action and US-based cartoons.

The bigger change that occurred with CONtv, however, was the newly implemented geographic content restrictions. As Viewster, the service was available to stream anywhere. As CONtv, however, you may not be able to access the service everywhere.

That said, CONtv’s FAQs explain that it is only available in the US. We’ve discovered that’s not actually true . Through testing, we’ve found CONtv works in many other countries outside the US, including Canada, the UK, and Germany. It’s possible that some of CONtv’s content is blocked due to licensing agreements, but we did not find any among the titles we tested (and we did not test every TV series and movie on the site for accessibility). If you do find blocked content, a VPN to a US IP address will likely unblock it for you.

This service has apps for Android and iOS devices.

Crackle free movie streaming

Crackle was previously owned by Sony (and previously named “Sony Crackle”) until Sony sold a majority stake of the service to the company Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. The same company behind the well-known self-help book of the same name, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment immediately went to work by changing the name (back to Crackle) and ramping up the original content production.

This service now has 1,300+ titles available. Crackle lost most of its top-rated Sony content with the ownership change. However, its library still has a wide range of ad-free, on-demand streaming TV shows and movies across different genres.

If you try to visit Crackle from outside the US, you’ll see this message: “Thanks for visiting. Unfortunately, we’re not currently available in this region.” . Connect to a NordVPN server in the US to get a US IP address and bypass Crackle’s geographic content blocking .

Crackle has a large number of apps on almost any device you may want to use, including most that also work with separate VPN apps.

CW seed free tv streaming

The CW has some of the best TV show content available in the US, especially if you’re a DC Comics fan. Impressively, The CW also provides much of that content available for free through its ad-supported streaming service, CW Seed. The company even advertises the service with the tagline “Free For All”.

This service offers 80+ titles available on-demand.

You’ll see the following message if you try to load CW Seed TV shows from outside of the US: “Due to licensing restrictions this content is only available in the US” . That’s pretty self-explanatory. Using NordVPN and a connection to a US server, you can easily bypass that message and access both the on-demand and live content available through CW Seed.

If you plan to download the app on an Android, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire TV, there’s a NordVPN available on all of those devices that will still allow you to bypass geographic content blocking for the service.

8. Fawesome

Fawesome.TV free tv streaming

This ad-supported streaming service is unique in its content is  only available through its dedicated apps. And its app library is fairly limited.

You can stream Fawesome’s 250+ titles on Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, using its Windows app or using an app for LG smart TVs.

Fawsome has some excellent content available, despite inflexibility on how to watch it. Its multi-genre library includes major TV and movie hits, like Third Rock From the Sun and The Contract .

No VPN is required as far as we can tell, but blocking may be imposed if you’re in a country known for blocking American content, such as China.

9. FilmRise (via YouTube)

filmrise free movie streaming

FilmRise is a content distribution company that acquires licenses for various TV shows and movies. Its content is available on a large number of different streaming services, but you can access most of it through the company’s YouTube channels or its dedicated iOS, Android, and streaming device apps.

This service carries 1,500+ titles in its library.

Geographic content blocking on FilmRise is a real hit-and-miss. We’ve found that some TV shows and movies on its YouTube channel are blocked to non-US users, while others will play almost anywhere.

For example, FilmRise has full episodes of the US TV show 21 Jump Street , but you can’t watch those episodes through FilmRise’s YouTube channel if you’re a country outside the US, such as Canada, the UK, or Germany. Instead, you’ll get YouTube’s standard content blocking message: “Video unavailable. The uploader has not made this video available in your country” .

Grab a US IP address by connecting to a NordVPN server located in the US to bypass any content blocking you might find when using FilmRise. If you’re in the US and you see a geographic content blocking message from FilmRise, you will also need a VPN. However, you may need to do some trial and error by connecting to servers in different countries to determine where that content is available.

10. BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer Screenshot

BBC iPlayer is the UK’s largest free-to-watch streaming platform, carrying a regularly-updated library of TV shows, movies, and radio broadcasts. What’s more, it allows users to watch around a dozen channels live. These include the big ones, such as BBC One and BBC Two, as well as regional channels like S4C and Alba, which are some of the only places you can stream Welsh and Gaelic content online.

The only catch is that you’ll need a TV license to use this platform. Still, with around 95 percent of UK households currently paying for one, there’s a strong chance you can watch BBC iPlayer without spending anything extra.

BBC iPlayer is only available in the UK, so if you’re traveling abroad, you’ll need a VPN to continue using the service.

11. Amazon Freevee

Amazon Freevee

This service used to be called IMDb TV, but after being bought by Amazon, it has since been integrated into the company’s streaming library. Don’t worry, though: you do not need an Amazon Prime account to watch , though you will have to create a free Amazon account (if you have one that you use for shopping, this will do nicely).

According to JustWatch, Freevee currently has over 3,000 ad-supported titles to choose from. This includes high-profile movies like Hellraiser , Reservoir Dogs , and District 9 , but there are also plenty of great TV shows, such as Hell’s Kitchen , The West Wing , and Syfy’s drastically-underrated Dune series. Freevee even has a steadily-growing catalog of original content, which isn’t something most other free services can say.

Now, it’s important to note that Freevee is region-locked, which means the exact content will vary based on where you are in the world. Still, you can continue to access your home country’s library as you travel with the help of a VPN.

12. Kidoodle.TV

kidoodle free tv streaming

The Kidoodle.TV streaming service has an ad-supported “freemium” version and a paid version that has a few additional features, including an ad-free experience. Similar to HappyKids.tv, Kidoodle.TV has very few geographic content restrictions in place.

The company states its service is available in over 140 countries, so you’ll likely find it works just fine wherever you live. If you find you’re getting blocked, we recommend you try to connect to a VPN server in a country where it’s likely to be available, such as the US, Canada, the UK, or most EU countries.

Also similar to HappyKids.tv, Kidoodle cannot be streamed using a web browser. However, there are apps available for most Android and iOS devices, several smart TV brands, and popular TV-connected devices, including the Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Apple TV. Just note that there is are no VPN apps for Roku devices or smart TVs, so if you do find the service blocked in your country, the simplest workaround is to use a different device.

pbs free tv streaming

Often considered the US version of the BBC, PBS does have one distinguishing factor: You don’t need to pay a TV license to access much of its content. That means it’s a legitimately free streaming service. PBS does lock some of its content behind a donation paywall, but a fair amount is freely available.

This service has 190+ titles in its content library.

PBS employs content blocking across its site. In some cases, you won’t be able to see available episodes for a show’s page. If someone without a US IP address does manage to get access to an episode’s page, PBS will display this message on the stream: “We’re sorry, but this video is unavailable” .

A VPN connection to a US server is required to access PBS on-demand TV shows and documentaries from outside the US. Note that PBS will also give you varied content based on your location if you’re trying to use the live option. The server you choose will impact what content you get in that case.

14. Peacock

peacock free tv streaming

As a counter to Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access), NBC launched its own streaming service called Peacock. Peacock chose to go a different route than its competitor, however, and provides an ad-supported free tier for subscribers.

This service offers 1,300+ titles in its free library.

The free content available through Peacock comes with two conditions: 1) You need to create an account, and 2) You must be in the US (or have a US IP address). These are easy hurdles to jump, but if you’re outside of the US Peacock will block your entry completely. Going to the website with a non-US IP address yields the following message: “This service is unavailable in your region” .

Grab a US IP address using NordVPN, then load up the Peacock website. From there, you can register using any email address and some other basic information. Peacock does not ask for credit card details for the free account, so anyone can sign up to use it.

This service is also available via apps for most popular devices, many of which can be paired with a VPN app where available.

Plex free movie streaming

This service offers 7,100+ titles on-demand.

However, Plex will serve different content libraries and live TV channels to different users based on geographic location. So while it doesn’t use content blocking, you may want to install and load up a VPN, then connect to different servers worldwide to unlock the full library of free content Plex offers.

The service also has apps for popular operating systems and devices where VPNs will unblock content, including Android, iOS, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.

16. PlutoTV

plutoTV free tv streaming

This service was one of the first to start offering free, ad-supported live TV channels streaming over the web. It’s now among the largest and best free streaming sites for TV and movies thanks to an extensive amount of corporate from 170+ content providers, including Lionsgate, MGM, and many US cable TV networks.

PlutoTV carries 6,800+ titles on-demand.

The good news is that PlutoTV is available almost anywhere in the world. The bad news is that the complexity of its content library means it displays different content to different people based on location. NordVPN works with PlutoTV and allows you to access its content libraries anywhere its available, including the US, Canada, UK, and EU countries such as Germany.

The Pluto.TV app is available on devices that also have a working NordVPN app: Android, iOS, and Fire TV.

17. Popcornflix

popcornflix free movie streaming

This service is a fairly generic free TV and movie streaming site. There’s nothing flashy about it, but it does carry an excellent variety of TV shows and movies across every popular genre.

There are 1,300+ titles available through this service.

From what we can tell, it does not impose a site-wide content blocking. In fact, the ads it plays on videos are localized based on your IP address. Live in Hong Kong? You’ll get ads for Hong Kong residents. Live in Canada? You’ll get ads for Canadian products and services.

There might be some title-specific geo-blocking applied, as this is common when sites like this have licensed content. However, we did not see any during testing. If you do find any content that’s blocked, we’ve verified that Popcornflix does work with a VPN.

If you plan to watch Popcornflix on devices outside of a desktop or laptop computer, its Android, iOS, and Fire TV apps can be paired with VPN apps for those devices.

18. SBS On Demand

SBS on demand free tv

SBS On Demand is singlehandedly one of the best streaming sites for TV shows and movies anywhere in the world. It carries top-rated streaming from around the world, including many Oscar-winning titles.

There are over 11,000 hours of content available through this service.

SBS On Demand is based in and serves the Australian market. Accessing its impressive content library requires an Australian IP address. If you try to go to the SBS On Demand website from outside of Australia, you’ll see the following message: “Content unavailable in your location. Most of our content is only available to stream within Australia due to publishing rights” .

We’ve found this service does not block VPNs. Connect to a VPN server in Australia to get an Australia-based IP address and stream SBS On Demand from anywhere, including from the US.

19. Sling TV

Sling tv free tv streaming

Although it’s known more widely as the second-cheapest virtual multichannel video programming distributor in the US (Philo takes the top spot there), Sling TV has an almost hidden free streaming section that anyone with a US IP address can take advantage can use, even without creating a Sling TV account.

The free version offers 550+ titles on-demand.

Sling TV imposes site-wide geographic content blocking. Even trying to access its homepage will give you the following message: “We’re sorry. Sling TV is only available inside the US. Thank you for your interest” .

To get rid of this message and get to the free content, connect to a VPN server in the US. Sling TV will then let you right in and allow you to enjoy its free TV shows and movies.

Stirr free tv without cable

Stirr offers free TV and movies to anyone, but you’re going to be extremely limited if you’re outside of the US. This service takes a unique approach by mixing your free channel and movies based on what US city you live in, and not by country. If you try to use Stirr with an IP address from outside of the US, the service will show you its “National” package of content, which is almost nothing.

Connecting to a US VPN server through NordVPN or other VPN providers is necessary to gain access to Stirr’s content libraries. But you may also want to hop around to different servers in the US to see what type of content you get.

That recommendation also applies to US users, as well. Since Stirr will show you different channels based on your city, you may want to use a VPN to get the full benefit of the service.

Stirr has apps several devices that also work with VPN apps: Android, iOS, and Amazon Fire TV.

tubi free tv streaming

Tubi’s winning free-with-ad model allowed it to grow to become one of the largest and best-streaming sites for TV and movies. It also caught the attention of Fox Corporation, which purchased the site in 2020.

This service carries 28,000+ titles in its content library.

Tubi was previously available in multiple countries and offered different libraries where available. Now, however, its expansive library of top-rated TV shows and movies is only available to those with a US IP address.

If you try to stream from outside the US (but from a non-EU country), the service displays the following block message: “Content unavailable. Sorry, this video is not currently available”.

And if you try to connect from an EU country, you’ll get this message: “I’ll be back. – Terminator. Tubi is the largest free movie and TV streaming service in the US. We are not available in Europe due to changes in EU laws. The GDPR went into effect on May 2018; Tubi is working on compliance and planning to re-launch in European countries soon”.

There may be hope in the future that Tubi will bring its services overseas. For now, a VPN works well to bypass its existing content blocks.

Tubi is available through multiple apps for devices that work with a VPN, including Android, iOS, and Amazon Fire TV.

Although it primarily operates as a service for buying and renting digital TV shows and movies, Vudu also carries many free titles that are supported by advertisements.

You can watch 8,700+ titles through Vudu.

The service is only available in the US, however. It doesn’t even both to provide an IP block message. If you try to access the site from outside of the US, you’ll just see an HTTP ERROR 400 page.

Connect to any US VPN server to get an IP address and bypass this restriction. You can also watch with a bypass on multiple devices thanks to a large library of dedicated apps for Android, iOS, Apple TV, Fire TV, and more.

23. Watch4 and W4Free

W4Free tv streaming

Although most of the best free streaming sites for TV and movies are locked to the US, there still many options available elsewhere. Watch4 is an EU-based streaming website primarily serving German speakers across Europe. It also has an English-language version called W4Free that’s only available in the UK.

While both sites will let you make a connection if you’re outside of their respective licensing zones, the content libraries will be mostly blank. We’ve verified that a VPN connection using NordVPN will work with both services, regardless of where you’re located.

xumo free tv streaming

XUMO is owned by Comcast and was designed to take on PlutoTV. It utilizes the same style and concept that PutoTV developed, but carries some notable differences. The biggest distinguishing factor is probably the most important one: XUMO has a notably different package of 24/7 channels and on-demand TV shows and movies. That means you’ll find enough difference between XUMO and PlutoTV that it’s not really an either/or situation; both will have value for you.

This service provides 10,000+ in its on-demand library.

None of that matters if you can’t access XUMO’s content . XUMO is currently restricted to US IP addresses. If you attempt to access XUUMO from outside the US, you’ll see the following message: “We’re sorry. XUMO is currently only available in the United States. If you’re in the United States and are having problems accessing this site, please visit www.xumo.com/support” . XUMO will then automatically redirect you to its corporate site.

We’ve found VPNs work to bypass Xumo’s geographic content blocking, but the service uses fairly effective anti-VPN countermeasures. You may need to contact your VPN provider’s customer support to determine which VPN servers effectively bypass its content blocking.

25. YouTube

youtube free tv streaming

Although it’s available almost everywhere, YouTube’s content is not universally available. Many content uploaders place geographic content restrictions when they upload the content. YouTube then employs its own software to enforce those restrictions by detecting each users’ IP address to determine location.

YouTube’s content licensing arm offers 270+ titles on-demand, alongside the millions from its userbase.

FimRise (mentioned above) is just one example of a channel that uses geographic restrictions. Given its size, there are hundreds, if not thousands more that also block content. Thankfully, a VPN will work to bypass any geographic content restrictions you find through YouTube.

Best free streaming sites: FAQ

What are the best free streaming sites.

This depends on what type of content you’re looking for. If you want variety and well-known titles, SBS On Demand and Tubi TV are hard to beat. Both have the best quality of content we’ve found. You’ll also find that their libraries don’t intersect too often, so there’s value in using both services instead of one or the other.

Is 123movies safe? Is 123movies legal?

While it’s a popular go-to for people who want free TV shows and movies, 123movies is neither safe nor legal. It does not maintain any licensing agreements with copyright holders for any of the content you will find on the website. And as a pirate streaming site, it also does not have any reason to protect users from malware or other threats. We do not recommend this site for streaming. The options listed above are all free, just like 123movies, but without the privacy, security, and legality risks.

Where can I stream for free?

Any option on this list will allow you to stream for free. Crackle, Tubi TV, YouTube, Peacock, SBS On Demand, and all of the others are ad-supported streaming providers. Most do not even require an account.

Which illegal free streaming sites should I avoid?

Illegal streaming sites are platforms that offer pirated content for free, often in exchange for users watching ads. These sites are not only illegal but also pose significant risks to users. This can include potential legal trouble, exposure to malware, hacks, poor-quality content, and viruses.

Some of the most frequented illegal streaming sites for movies and TV shows include Moviesjoy, Putlocker, 123Movies, IndoXXI, SportsBay, WatchSeries, DramaCool, The Pirate Bay and uTorrent.

Where to Watch TV Shows Online for Free Legally: The 5 Best Sites

best free online websites to watch tv shows

If you buy something using our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support!

Maybe you don't have Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. Or maybe you do, but you've run out of stuff to watch and you're looking for even more TV shows you can watch—without paying anything.

Well, there are some sites out there that let you stream TV shows for free, but they're packed with shady and malicious ads that could infect you with malware. They're also illegal. Will you get in trouble for watching? Probably not. But they could go down any day.

If you want to stream TV shows for free without exposing yourself to unnecessary malware risks or breaking the law, you'll want to stick to legitimate sites run by legitimate companies.

Here are the best sites where you can legally watch TV shows online for free. You'll just have to sit through a few ads.

best free online websites to watch tv shows

Vudu is our top pick for legally watching TV shows online. It has the largest selection of TV shows and the best user interface. In addition to TV shows, Vudu also has lots of free movies that you can stream on demand—also with advertisements.

As with their TV show selection, Vudu's movie selection is decent overall with a few hidden gems if you dig around. As of this writing, I can spot some gold: Apocalypto , Bronson , Life After Beth , Cube , Compliance , among others.

And if you decide to you're open to paying, you can buy individual seasons of TV shows on demand. Episodes are usually $2 each, while seasons often have a discount on top.

best free online websites to watch tv shows

NBC's Peacock streaming service is worth using if there's a particular NBC show you want to watch. Not every show is available to users on the Free plan, but a surprising number of them are.

Some notable shows that you can stream for free on Peacock: Parks and Recreation , Battlestar Galactica , Downton Abbey , Friday Night Lights , Monk , among others. For sheer quality of TV shows, Peacock is miles ahead of every other free TV streaming service.

Peacock's Premium plan costs $4.99/month and opens up the rest of the TV shows on the service. Note that both Free and Premium plans have ads. Only the Premium Plus plan doesn't have ads, which costs $9.99/month. Still, Peacock is a solid deal for free users.

best free online websites to watch tv shows

Tubi is pretty great when it comes to free TV shows to watch online. You'll find that it has TV series that aren't available on other free platforms, and that alone makes it worthy of bookmarking.

My main gripe with Tubi is its primitive interface, which makes it hard to browse the library and find the content I want to watch. Some sort of advanced search or custom filters would be a welcome addition because I find it pretty frustrating without.

One other thing to note about Tubi is that, in my experience, its collection of TV shows rotates in and out more frequently than other free platforms. That can be a bit annoying if you're working through a long TV series and suddenly it's no longer available.

4. Pluto TV

best free online websites to watch tv shows

Pluto TV may not be the first service to come to mind as far as free on-demand TV, but it's one you should check out. It has a lot of the same content as other free TV platforms, but a few unique titles that set it apart from competing sites.

But its user interface is even worse than Tubi's, making it a pain to use. This is understandle given that on-demand TV isn't Pluto TV's main focus (more on that below), so it feels a bit tacked on.

On top of all this free on-demand content, Pluto TV offers free live TV streaming—and that's what it's mainly known for. Of course, there are some caveats with the live TV you get on Pluto TV, primarily that a lot of it isn't truly "live" but delayed by a day or two.

best free online websites to watch tv shows

Crackle was supposed to be the "big thing" in free TV streaming when it debuted in 2004 (as Grouper) and 2007 (as Crackle). It never quite took off as much as we expected it to, but it's still hanging in there and worth checking out if you haven't already.

Even though Crackle's selection of TV shows is nowhere near as vast as the other services in this article, it has a respectable amount of content—some you can find elsewhere, others unique to Crackle.

Indeed, one of the main reasons to watch Crackle is for the Crackle Originals, which currently comprise 21 original TV series (as of this writing) that are only available on Crackle. Notable shows include Snatch , StartUp , The Ropes , On Point , and The Oath .

Surprisingly, it also features a collection of vintage recorded TV shows, government videos, TV documentaries, event footage, etc. While the overall appearance of this free TV site might not impress you, it has all the important filters like year, topics, creator, language, etc.

Why use Internet Archive?

  • Completely free and public domain content

TV Shows Free Online- Yidio

Yidio is actually an aggregator of free TV streaming sites that points you towards third-party websites where you can watch a particular show. And there is no point for guessing that many of those hosts charge a fee. However, there is a separate section of free TV shows to stream online in 2021.

It features episodes from popular shows like Rick and Morty, Grey’s Anatomy, Two and a Half Men, The Flash, Gotham, etc. However, I have placed Yidio lower in this list because there are a couple of downsides to it: The free listings aren’t always accurate, and some of it might contain only short chips instead of full episodes.

Why use Yidio?

  • High-quality videos available
  • Hosts several popular sitcoms

CW TV

CW Network lets you stream some of its content for free on its website. This platform has a good collection of superhero flicks like Arrow and The Flash. For those interested in supernatural drama can check out series like The Originals or Supernatural.

Why use CW TV streaming site?

  • To watch content from CW TV network
  • No subscription required or signing up

Free TV Shows- CW Seed

CW TV has a subsite called CW Seed that you should definitely visit. Despite its name, which sounds a little illegal, I can assure that this website is a completely legal and you can stream free TV series hosted on the platform any time you want.

Apart from the 12 websites mentioned above, there are two other platforms where you can watch free TV shows online in 2021 and are worth mentioning:

  • YouTube : We all are familiar with this name, and most of us have turned to YouTube to watch episodes. You can watch full episodes of TV series here, however, all of them may not be legal. This is why I did not place it in the list above, but you can always check out this video-streaming site for both old and new content.
  • Internet Archive : This is one website which finds a place in almost all of my lists because let’s admit it, Internet Archive is awesome, and it offers almost everything you need. There is a good collection of TV shows here, but they might be a little scattered so make use of the filters to sort through content hosted here.

Free TV Website FAQs

Cord cutting is the act of cancelling your monthly cable subscription and opting to consume content via internet-based TV providers and paid streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Legal TV websites like Vudu, Popcornflix, Crackle, etc., deliver free content and balance the cost by showing you ads. There isn’t a single test for the legality, however, if the site is showing tons of popup ads and VPN recommendations to hide your IP, chances are that you’re watching content on an illegal website.

There are two kinds of alternatives to regular cable: free and paid. While paid services like Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, etc., offer fresh content, websites like Vudu, Crunchyroll, Pluto TV, etc., showcase comparatively older content for free.

Netflix offers some episodes of its most popular shows for free at Netflix.com/free. The website doesn’t require you to sign up to check out shows like Stranger Things, Our Planet, Lost In Space, etc. This catalog keeps getting updated from time-to-time.

Roku users can visit The Roku Channel and enjoy all free content on Roku in one place. This ad-supported channel hosts content from Roku partners and Roku channels like Sony, WB, MGM, YuYu, FilmRise, Popcornflix, etc. You can access it here: therokuchannel.roku.com

You can use a VPN to stream free content that’s not available in your region; services like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and CyberGhost let you bypass these restrictions and enjoy more content.

The Best Free TV Streaming Apps and Sites for 2024

Here's where you can get tv for free online.

Connor Sheppard Avatar

In the exponentially stimulating culture of media production and consumption that we live in, TV shows have become close to impossible to keep up with. It seems that everyone and their mother has a show suggestion to offer any unexpecting individual. Assuming that one could feasibly keep up with all of the most popular and talked about series in the world, they are all scattered throughout the various streaming services available today, making it difficult and potentially expensive to do so. If you're hoping to watch TV without needing a Netflix subscription or a free trial of a service , we’ve gathered a list of the best sites to watch TV shows for free without any sort of financial requirement attached.

If you're looking for a site or app that will allow you to watch episodes of something without costing a dime, these are your best free TV streaming options in 2024. You can also check out our list of free movie streaming sites if you want our picks of the best places to watch films.

The Roku Channel

Roku

Getting its start as a small, material add-on for one’s home TV, The Roku Channel is a product of competition between multiple streaming services. While Roku does support the use of rival streaming services, it provides free access to some well-known series as well as some well-rated original shows. As with most options on this list, Roku does contain ads while viewing in order to deliver that free content right to your living room.

The Roku channel is available on most modern smart TVs built for streaming and you can also use a Roku streaming stick or any other streaming device to gain access to free TV and movies. Some of the best free TV shows you can stream right now include clasic TV shows like Bewitched and the Price is Right. You can also find episodes of Bones and House available for free.

Freevee

Acting as Amazon’s selection of absolutely free streaming movies and TV, the selection of available shows for free are expectedly of a slightly higher quality and demand. With shows such as Schitt’s Creek, Blue Mountain State, Top Gear, Taxi, and The DIck Van Dyke Show, options are a bit more varied than the average free streaming site. While there are some quality shows to find for free here, viewers will still have to create an Amazon account before watching Freevee . And it's worth noting that you get access to both this and Prime Video when you sign up for a Prime membership

This is also the only place you can currently watch Jury Duty, which actually a Freevee original that has gained popularity.

Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll

For the avid anime fans out there, Crunchyroll is the site to check out right away. With all the anime one can imagine to be available, all one has to do is go to the website, endure a minute or two of ads, and begin streaming your new favorite anime absolutely free. Available on the site is a 14-day free trial that lets you watch certain seasons of select shows–with ads–without creating an account. Crunchyroll also has a free 24-hour anime channel that is available on Roku and Amazon Freevee.

You can check out our Crunchyroll review and also the list of the best anime streaming sites for more info.

PlutoTV

One of the more unique additions to this list of streaming options, PlutoTV acts as less of a streaming service than an online cable TV guide for live TV. Even without creating an account, anyone can go to the site and start watching live TV straight from their computer. A huge difference between watching TV the old school way and PlutoTV is that on PlutoTV, you can choose to start the program you are watching from the very beginning. As this is the closest relative to watching cable TV, there are definitely ads as if one was watching cable TV.

In addition to live channels, you can get on demand episodes of classic shows like Survivor, King of Qeens, Cops, and more.

Tubi

Good news for fans of some older, classic TV shows, Tubi TV allows viewers to watch select seasons of shows like the Bachelor, Lois and Clark, Degrassi, and more. As one of the most popular and well-known free streaming services, Tubi can be found already available on most smart devices. Due to its popularity, it has gained quite a few beloved shows and movies that put it a step above the others.

Vudu

The free streaming platform from Fandango, Vudu grants viewers access to a variety of shows for free upon account creation. Since it is linked to Peacock, it will often try to navigate users to create a Peacock account and sign up for a premium membership. Luckily, it is very easy to find all of the shows that are actually free–with ads–with a quick check of the box “Free TV only”.

YouTube

A service that has attempted to keep up with the paid streaming services for the last two decades, YouTube has increased their catalog to include a large amount of free and premium content. While its selection of movies is a bit more diverse, the shows available are still bound to catch some attention from unwary scrollers.

XUMO

Standing out as one of the easier platforms to navigate, XumoPlay is a site that grants immediate access to multiple shows for free. Featuring shows and series that are more similar to something one might watch on the discovery channel, this site is for lovers of documentary, research, and reality TV shows. No account creation is required to start streaming–with ads–right away.

Crackle

An international, free streaming platform and app, Crackle has access to shows from around the world as well as some acclaimed, original series that are worth checking out. A site that is designed for absolutely free content, most–if not all–shows on the platform are free to watch as soon as you arrive. A great thing about this site is its ease of navigation: it makes it incredibly easy to find shows of all kinds and one can even filter by genre.

Plex TV

Somewhat like Pluto TV, Plex TV takes on the format of a TV guide screen for navigation. Prioritizing favorite channels and providers, one is able to find shows easily based on what channel they originally aired. What separated Plex TV is its additional ability to search through available shows to watch on demand, making it a tasteful combination of abilities that are typically one or the other on other free streaming platforms.

For those looking for more options based on specific titles you care most about getting access to, including paid options, see our recently re-ranked list of the best streaming services . In 2024, it's also a good time to explore the options you can get from a VPN when your top need is to access specific content outside of your local region (e.g. sports games).

How to Get Live TV Channels fo Free

If you don't have a smart TV capable of downloading any of these free TV apps, you can still get access to live TV the old-fashioned way. There are quite a few HDTV antennas that allow you to pull live channels out of the air. You can also purchase one of the more popular streaming devices on the market that will help give your television smart TV capabilities.

13 Places You Can Legally Stream TV Shows for Free

13 Places You Can Legally Stream TV Shows for Free

For a brief moment there, it seemed we had finally moved on from the horrible cable TV business model. Streaming was cheap, easy, and full of our favorite shows. In 2022, however, it feels like every show is attached to its own streaming service, forcing you to pay cable prices to have access to everything. If you’ve come full circle and are sick of paying for TV, there’s an easy way to watch to your heart’s content completely free.

With all free content on the internet, the TV we’re about to talk about is powered by commercials. It won’t be the ad-free streaming experience you might be used to if you’re coming from Netflix or HBO. However, if you think of this like a cable TV replacement, it’s not a bad deal at all. Use the ad break to get yourself a snack, use the bathroom, or think about how much money those ads are saving on you on streaming expenses.

YouTube

YouTube is the latest player in the free TV marketplace . Sure, the site made its fame as a free way to watch content, but now you can watch honest-to-goodness TV shows for free, so long as you’re OK with the ads.

The company says you can enjoy an initial 4,000 shows from its “Movies & Shows” tab. Just look for titles sporting the “Free with Ads” tag, rather than “Buy” or “Rent.” Right away, some of the titles advertised include Hell’s Kitchen , Kitchen Nightmares , Unsolved Mysteries , Scream Queens , The Weird Al Show , and 21 Jump Street .

Peacock

Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, is one of the few amongst the big streaming giants to offer a free tier. Not a free trial, mind you, but a true, never-ending service for free. The company claims, with a free account, you have access to over 40,000 movies, TV shows, and “more.”

Since Peacock does offer two other paid tiers, the free version is a bit limited. Still, you do get access to some premium shows, including the first five seasons of The Office , as well as the first two seasons of Parks and Recreation (let’s be real, the two shows you’d use Peacock for).

Tubi TV

Tubi is one of the biggest free TV services out there. The site belongs to FOX Entertainment, containing more than 35,000 movies and TV shows, in addition to nearly 100 news channels from around the country.

You have access to a wide variety of shows, especially from the 2000s, like Naruto , Rome , Kitchen Nightmares, 3rd Rock From the Sun , Peep Show , etc. In addition, you’ll find a “Live TV” tab, featuring sports, news, and entertainment, perfect for having something to put on in the background.

Comet TV

If you’re looking for a free TV service focused on sci-fi, give Comet a try. The site has a limited but interesting list of classics in the genre on-demand, such as The X-Files , Quantum Leap , Farscape , and The Outer Limits. Comet also hosts its own live stream, in case you’d rather the service choose your next programming for you.

Crackle

Real ones know Crackle as the original home of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee . Even though Netflix stole the hit web show away from Crackle, there are still plenty of shows to shift through in its catalog. Some shows that stand out to me are The Dick Van Dyke Show , Forensic Files , The Beverly Hillbillies , The Real Ghostbusters , and Jackie Chan Adventures , among tons of other titles. Crackle even has its own original programming, although the list is a bit limited .

Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll

Don’t let its outdated look fool you: Crunchyroll is the perfect free website for Anime fans. The site has access to a huge amount of shows, including One Piece , Attack on Titan , and My Hero Academia . While the service offers a premium tier, you certainly don’t need to pay to get a lot out of Crunchyroll.

If you’re streaming on desktop, consider giving Crunchyroll’s beta a try. It offers additional features, in tandem with a new look that makes the site more in line with what you’d expect from a 2022 streaming service.

Adult Swim

If you’re an Adult Swim fan, you should know you can watch a lot of their content for free online and through their app. While some content is locked behind a cable login, there are plenty of shows that aren’t (sometimes entire seasons). I’m not sure what deals are in place to decide which content is locked, since, sometimes, the first episode of a season isn’t available for free, which would stop many of us from starting the show in the first place.

Still, the amount of free, high-quality Adult Swim content here is great, allowing you to waste a lot of time watching some funny cartoons. The channel also hosts live streams of its shows, so you can pop in and check out a random episode whenever you want.

IMDB TV

IMDB might’ve started as an internet database for movie information, but now, it’s a bit more than that. The site has its own original programming, with shows like Play-Doh Squished, Corner Gas , and Timewasters , in addition to a large library of big-name shows, like Mad Men, Schitt’s Creek, and Chicago Fire .

Since Amazon now controls the company, you’ll need a Bezos account to log in and stream. You don’t need to have Prime in order to use it, though, so a free Amazon account will work just fine.

Pluto TV

Let’s turn our focus to live TV options. One of the best, and most ubiquitous, options is Pluto TV. The service offers hundreds of free TV channels, spanning movies, entertainment, reality TV, gaming, music, sports, crime, and more. There are plenty of high-profile names in its channel list, including Showtime Selects, Paramount+ Picks, MTV Pluto, and CNN, but there are plenty of channels you might not know about that offer some entertaining content.

Take a browse through Pluto’s long list of channels and options. There’s almost certainly something for everyone here.

Xumo TV

Xumo TV is another great option for live TV. The service offers seemingly hundreds of channels, if scrolling through its length TV guide is any consideration. You’ll find news from ABC and NBC, movies from CineLife and Xumo Movies, game shows from Game Show Central and Family Feud, and kids’ content from Cool School and Xumo Kids.

In addition to a sea of live streaming TV channels, Xumo also has a series of on-demand options . You’ll see many of the same Xumo channels you see in its livestreaming line-up listed here, each with its own collection of clips and shows. You can choose what to watch from History Shorts’ catalog, or binge Architectural Digest’s offerings.

Plex

You might know Plex as a movie service, but it also does live TV. There are plenty of channels to explore, like Crackle, AMC Thrillers, IGN, Fail Army, and World Poker Tour. My favorite, however, has to be the Portlandia channel. Having a random episode of Portlandia playing in the background any time I want makes Plex a must.

Samsung TV Plus

Samsung TV Plus

If you own a Samsung TV or a Galaxy smartphone, you might want to consider Samsung TV Plus for your live TV needs. The service offers 100% free Live TV, and includes channels like NBC News NOW, Stories by AMC, Vice, Court TV, Game Show Central, America’s Test Kitchen, in addition to roughly 190 more options, according to Samsung.

The catch is, this service is exclusive for Samsung devices. If you don’t own one of the company’s TVs or phones, you’ll have to skip for now. But if you are in the Samsung ecosystem, their live TV app might be the choice for you.

LG Channels (Xumo)

LG Channels (Xumo)

Similarly, if you’re an LG fan, LG Channels is a great option. It’s likely built right into your smart TV, making it a convenient choice, and is actually powered by Xumo. It’s an easy way to get the live TV features from Xumo without needing to download another app to your smart TV.

Best Websites and Apps for Watching Free TV Shows

Whether you’re looking to rewatch old favorites or catch up on recent hits, you can find a great selection of free TV shows online.

In this article, I’ll take a close look at 11 of the best websites and apps for watching free TV shows online that are completely legal. I’ve visited each of the websites and watched a few videos from each to see what the process is like, what’s available for free and how many ads you can expect.

This article was updated in December 2023 and I review it every three months. Detailed notes on all updates can be found here .

Where To Watch TV Shows Online for Free

If you’re searching online for free TV shows to watch, there’s a good chance that you could end up on a sketchy website. Some of them may try to get your credit card information; others provide access to pirated content. But there are several websites, apps and streaming services that you can use to watch TV shows legally and for free. Among them are Crackle, The CW, Pluto TV and Hoopla.

If you’re looking for a full list of websites that let you watch TV shows that you’d normally have to pay for (pirated content), you won’t find it here. Instead, I’ve compiled 11 completely legal websites where you can watch TV shows for free, most of which are ad-supported.

When you visit some of these websites or download the apps, you might have to create a free account to access the free content. Still, you shouldn’t have to download anything or enter any payment information to watch legal, free TV shows online. At most, you might have to disable your ad blocker.

Note that I’ve rated “Ad Pain” from low to high. That’s based on the length and frequency of advertisements.

Hoopla is the digital service of Midwest Tape , which is one of the leading providers of entertainment and media to public libraries across North America. On Hoopla, you’ll find digital videos including TV shows and movies as well as music, audiobooks, e-books and more from more than 8,500 libraries.

Hoopla works just like a public library in the sense that you can borrow digital copies of TV shows at any time by using your local library card. If you have a library card, you can create a Hoopla account for free online. You will have to log in before you’ll be able to “borrow” anything.

After you sign in, you can browse through featured titles, anything you currently have borrowed, recommendations, popular picks and titles that you’ve added to your favorites. You can also click “browse” at the top of the screen to use the search bar.

Hoopla digital library

Once you’ve found a TV show you’d like to watch, you can see the details, descriptions and ratings from other Hoopla users. The shows that I chose let me borrow just one episode at a time. If you’re ready to check something out, just click “borrow” beneath the show. You’ll see a message that lets you know how long you’ll have access to the show (typically 2-3 days) and whether it’s available for streaming, downloading or both. The title will automatically be “returned” when it’s due back, but you can return it sooner to check out the next episode.

Once you’ve borrowed a show or movie, you can watch it at any time without any advertisements. Subtitles are also typically available.

You can access Hoopla on any web browser or your phone ( iOS app ; Android app ) . You can also stream content via your Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast or Roku device.

  • No advertisements during TV shows and movies you’ve borrowed
  • Some content is downloadable once you’ve checked it out

CW Seed has recently moved to The CW . It’s still a great resource that streams more than  1,000 hours of comedy, action and drama shows in addition to free live TV.

When I checked out The CW, I saw episodes for several popular shows including “90210,” “Heartland,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and more. You can check out a full list of available on-demand shows here .

If you find a title you’d like to watch, you can click on it to begin playing the first available episode. The show will instantly begin streaming, but you’ll most likely have to watch an ad or two before getting started. After that, you can expect periodic ads throughout the show. As you can see in the screenshot above, in a 21-minute episode, I saw three advertisements after the show began.

The CW is available online or as an app for your iOS or Android device. Y ou will have to disable your ad blocker before you can stream if you’re watching on a web browser . You can also get The CW for Roku, Chromecast, Android TV, Apple TV, Xbox One, Amazon Fire TV, Vizio Smart TV, and LG TV.

Pluto TV is an internet television service that provides free, ad-supported content including live TV and on-demand titles. There are hundreds of free TV channels to browse and thousands of free movies available on demand.

You can access Pluto TV online using your computer, iOS or Android device. You can also stream Pluto TV on Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, PlayStation, Roku, Samsung, TiVo, Vizio devices, and Xfinity. I used my computer to visit the website online.

I clicked “Watch Now” to get started. From there, I could choose between “Live TV” and “On Demand” at the top of the screen. The “On Demand” tab features a few different categories including the genres listed above as well as popular movies, top TV series, new movies and more. On the “Live TV” tab, you’ll find a huge selection of free channels.

You don’t have to create an account to stream content , but it is free to sign up for one if you want. Having an account allows you to keep track of your favorite movies and channels and get updates on new content.

When I checked out The Roku Channel, I visited the website on my laptop. I was immediately asked to create an account or sign in to access premium subscriptions, continue watching shows where I left off and get personalized recommendations. Still, a n account isn’t required to stream content. However, I did have to disable my ad blocker before I was able to stream anything.

The Roku Channel media player

When I checked out The Roku Channel, it included a few popular on-demand TV shows including “Downton Abbey,” “Project Runway,” “Leave It to Beaver” and more. Live TV channels included USA Today, TMZ, The Design Network and NBC News Now among others.

  • You don’t have to create an account to stream content

Links to watch videos on Yidio

When I clicked on “The Masked Singer,” I saw that it was available on some paid subscription services and on some cable networks with exclusive access. Still, it looked like it was completely free on Tubi. Once I clicked this link, I was redirected to Tubi’s website to watch the show for free.

If you have a specific TV show in mind, Yidio is a great resource to check and see if it’s available for free online.  You can check it out online via your computer’s browser or on your phone via the iOS app or Android app .

  • No shows are available directly on Yidio, which means you’ll always be redirected to a second website
  • Not all TV shows are available for free

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, all of these websites/apps are worth checking out if you’re looking for TV shows that you can stream online legally.

If you’re looking for an ad-free or offline experience, using your library card to access Hoopla is the best option for you. For live TV and on-demand shows, check out The CW, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel or Freevee. Additionally, you’ll find more ad-powered on-demand TV shows at Crackle, Popcornflix, Tubi and Vudu.

Anime fans will find thousands of episodes available for free on Crunchyroll. And if you have a specific TV show in mind, be sure to check out Yidio where you can quickly check to see if it’s available for free anywhere online.

No matter where you decide to watch free TV shows online, just make sure you’re doing it legally and safely. While you may have to disable your ad blocker online or enter your email address to create a free account you shouldn’t have to download anything to your computer or enter any payment information.

Looking for more recommendations of what to watch next?  We have a ton of them!  And if you're looking for more hand-picked recommendations based on shows you love,  we have those too .

Dan Levy and Catherine O'Hara, Schitt's Creek

Schitt's Creek

If you don't have Netflix but still want to stream  Schitt's Creek  online, you'll be happy to know you can watch the first five seasons of the heartwarming, Emmy-nominated comedy series, about the wealthy Rose family, who loses everything they own except the town of the show's title, for free on CW Seed and IMDb TV. The sixth and final season of the Pop TV show will be made available in October. [Watch on  CW Seed ,  IMDb TV ]

It wasn't too long ago that you had to have a Netflix subscription to watch Mad Men , AMC's Emmy-award winning period drama from Matthew Weiner that was dedicated as much to style as it was to substance. The 1960s-set series, which traced the rise and fall of flawed Madison Avenue advertising executive Don Draper ( Jon Hamm ) through his own complicated relationship with identity, was a pointed commentary on the toxic masculinity, sexism, and racism of the era. It also changed the way we watch and talk about TV. If you haven't seen it yet, now's the perfect time to do so. [Watch on  IMDb TV ]

Felicity  is best known as the show in which  Keri Russell  cut her hair (not to be confused with the show in which Keri Russell wore a lot of great wigs, aka  The Americans ). Depicting Felicity Porter's (Russell) college years and the struggles that accompany trying to figure out who you're supposed to be, the show is also famous for  Scott Speedman 's whisper-talking and the ongoing battle of Ben (Speedman) vs. Noel ( Scott Foley ). Although the WB series was previously streaming on Hulu, you can now watch it for free via ABC. [Watch on the  ABC app ]

The Dick Van Dyke Show

The Dick Van Dyke Show

Realizing  The Dick Van Dyke Show   is streaming for free feels a bit like winning a secret lottery or viewing an exceptional piece of art without paying the museum admission fee. The popular comedy, which ran for five seasons, was created by  Carl Reiner  and starred  Dick Van Dyke  as the head writer of a TV show, while  Mary Tyler Moore  portrayed his wife. It's a timeless classic -- one that took home 15 Emmys during its run, and if you've yet to experience it, you literally have no excuse at this point. [Watch on  Tubi ,  Pluto TV ]

Degrassi: The Next Generation

For many millennials, the fourth series in the Degrassi franchise,  Degrassi: The Next Generation , is the  defining iteration of the long-running Canadian series . The drama series, which was sometimes so overly dramatic it was actually funny, tackled everything from date rape and suicide to sexual orientation and teen pregnancy. The series, which launched the careers of  Drake  (then known as Aubrey Graham) and  Nina Dobrev , is streaming on multiple free platforms. [Watch on  Tubi ,  Pluto TV  (first 13 seasons),  YouTube ]

Eli Stone  really had it all, which is to say it had  Victor Garber  singing George Michael songs,  Loretta Devine  singing George Michael songs, and  George Michael  singing George Michael songs. What else is there? ABC's offbeat two-season comedy-drama starred a pre- Elementary   Jonny Lee Miller  as Eli Stone, a high-powered San Francisco lawyer whose brain aneurysm gave him prophetic visions -- which usually involved his friends, family, and colleagues breaking into song. Aside from a couple of ill-advised plotlines (the pilot, which suggests vaccines cause autism, is best forgotten), the show was a blast: a weird but memorable cocktail that should have stuck around for more seasons because, as I mentioned, Victor Garber sang George Michael songs. Also,  Sigourney Weaver  played God?! - Kelly Connolly [Watch on the  ABC app ]

The Red Green Show

A true Canadian treasure, The Red Green Show was a long-running comedy starring Steve Smith as Red Green, a handyman who constantly tried to cut corners using duct tape and who had his own cable TV show. It was a parody of home improvement shows and outdoor programs and featured segments like Handyman Corner, Adventures with Bill, and The Possum Lodge Word Game. The show ran for 15 seasons, airing on PBS in the States. [Watch on  YouTube  (nearly every episode)]

My So-Called Life

Critically beloved but struck down before its time, My So-Called Life has been praised for its realistic and honest portrayal of teenage life, not just via Angela Chase ( Claire Danes ), but through the show's young supporting cast as well. Now considered to be one of the best shows of all time, it tackled topics like homophobia, homelessness, drug use, and more without ever feeling preachy or like an after-school special. Also, Jordan Catalano ( Jared Leto ) could lean. [Watch on the  ABC app ]

Friday Night Lights

You may never know what it feels like to have Coach Taylor ( Kyle Chandler ) be proud of you, but you can pretend by watching all five seasons of Friday Night Lights , a series that was as much about a Texas community as it was about the sport that united it. By the end of the show, you'll be asking yourself "What Would Riggins Do?" and tattooing "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" on your body, all while chanting "Texas forever!" Trust me, it happens to everybody. [Watch on  Peacock ]

The Carrie Diaries

It is relatively easy to forget that The CW series The Carrie Diaries was a prequel to Sex and the City , because the charming show, which lasted just two seasons, was able to stand on its own. The coming-of-age series that followed a teenaged Carrie Bradshaw ( AnnaSophia Robb ) was relatively innocent compared to the original series. The show's 1980s setting made it easier for the writers to focus on more harmless family storylines and teenage heartbreaks, but the show never shied away from the heartstring-tugging drama of young adulthood either. It's a shame the show never got the kind of ratings it deserved and wasn't able to exist beyond Carrie's high school years, but the Season 2 finale works well as a series finale, so viewers won't feel as if the story was left incomplete. [Watch on  CW Seed ]

Pushing Daisies

It's a shame Bryan Fuller 's saturated dramedy Pushing Daisies , about a pie-maker ( Lee Pace ) with the ability to bring the dead back to life, couldn't bring itself back to life after becoming a casualty of the 2007-08 writers' strike. A whimsical delight, the show featured the pie-maker teaming up with a local private eye ( Chi McBride ) to solve murders by reviving the victims for a brief time. Known for its quirky characters, eccentric visual style, and Jim Dale 's pitch-perfect narration, it remains must-see TV. [Watch on  CW Seed ]

Columbo kicked off nearly every episode by revealing the crime and its perpetrator to the audience, which means unlike most crime dramas, the show was less about whodunnit and more about Peter Falk 's iconic raincoat-wearing homicide detective catching them and getting them to confess. Oh, and just one more thing: it's great. [Watch on  IMDb TV  (first seven seasons);  Peacock ]

2015 Finale Preview, Forever

The charming and playful  Forever , which starred  Ioan Gruffudd  as an immortal medical examiner, was  the one show that could have saved ABC's Tuesday at 10 p.m. death slot . But the network still canceled the series anyway, enraging the show's fans, who have never let the sting of its death go. Luckily, it now lives on, ahem, forever (aka until the content license expires) on CW Seed. [Watch on  CW Seed ]

Trophy Wife

Trophy Wife 's short life -- it was canceled after just one season -- can probably be chalked up to its unfortunate title, which was meant to be ironic but ultimately kept viewers from tuning in and experiencing the warmth of the show and the relationships at its center. Malin Akerman starred as the young wife of Bradley Whitford 's middle-aged lawyer, and the comedy explored the dynamics between the two, his children, and his two ex-wives, who were played by Marcia Gay Harden and Michaela Watkins . [Watch on the  ABC app ]

Loosely based on the Biblical story of King David, Kings was a compelling drama before its time. Rudely cut down after just one season by NBC, the show starred Ian McShane as the king of the fictional kingdom of Gilboa, while Christopher Egan portrayed an idealistic young soldier, a counterpart to the Biblical David. The show also starred Sebastian Stan , which is reason enough to check it out. [Watch on the  NBC app ]

Ray Wise portrays Satan in Reaper , a supernatural dramedy about a slacker ( Bret Harrison ) who reluctantly becomes a reaper tasked with capturing escaped souls from hell after it's revealed his parents made a deal with the devil many, many years before. The fact the show only lasted two seasons is a crime against humanity. Luckily, you can watch it in its entirety for free on the ABC app. [Watch on the  ABC app ]

04-fringe5055hires1.jpg

A team of experts led by a kooky old scientist ( John Noble ), his son ( Joshua Jackson ), and an FBI agent ( Anna Torv ) investigate strange occurrences around the country, X-Files style, in the J.J. Abrams-produced Fringe . The series is one of the best broadcast science-fiction shows of all time, particularly in its first three seasons, and perfected the art of the serialized procedural by weaving the show's deep mythology and excellent character work into weekly standalone stories, making it easy to binge or watch in spurts. And by the time the end of Season 1 starts, you'll have a hard time stopping. - Tim Surette [Watch on  IMDb TV ]

Being Human (U.K.)

Although American TV producers would eventually adapt Being Human , the original British version, which followed three supernatural beings trying to live amongst humans, is far superior. The show, which ran for five seasons, starred Aidan Turner , Russell Tovey , and Lenora Crichlow as a vampire, werewolf, and ghost, respectively. So skip the U.S. version entirely and watch the U.K. series for free. [Watch on  Tubi ,  Vudu ]

Dance Academy

The Australian young adult-oriented series Dance Academy is not exactly what you'd call "great television," but it is great fun. Brimming with teen angst and melodrama, the series, which ran for three seasons and even had a follow-up movie, followed a handful of dancers at Sydney's National Academy of Dance as they trained in the sport they loved while also falling in and out of love with each other. The acting was sometimes questionable, but the series itself was addictive, not to mention one of the easiest binges you'll ever encounter. [Watch on  Pluto TV ,  Vudu ,  Tubi ]

3rd Rock From the Sun

You might think a show about a group of socially awkward, 1,000-year-old aliens in human skin suits who are trying (badly) to pose as a human family and blend into an ordinary Midwest town might sound ridiculous, and, well, that's fair. But 3rd Rock From the Sun was still charming in even its most bizarre moments and gave its cast a lot of room to play up their roles and create an ensemble of weirdos that, at some point or another, start to tap into their newfound humanity and relish their new home here on Earth. - Amanda Bell [Watch on  Tubi ,  Pluto TV ,  Crackle ,  Vudu ]

What Is the Best Free Streaming Service?

The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Tubi logos

Have the prices of cable TV subscriptions made you a cord-cutter or even a “cord-never”? Do the recent price increases of streaming TV subscriptions have you searching for a “Cancel Membership” button? The good news is, you don’t have to pay a dime to watch hit movies and TV shows — all you have to do is think FAST.

Free ad-supported streaming television — or FAST for short — has taken off recently, with services like The Roku Channel , Pluto TV, and Tubi offering film and television both on-demand and even live. Yes, we’re back to channel-surfing, sitting through advertisements, and wondering what’s next on the schedule! After perusing the popular options, we’re ranking our picks for the free streaming services with the most bang for your buck… so to speak.

Nicolas Cage as Will Montgomery in 'Stolen'

Crackle isn’t exactly crackling these days. As of the time of this writing, Crackle’s home page featured lesser-known movies by big-name stars — Nic Cage in Stolen , anyone? Morgan Freeman in The Code ? — and the streaming service’s original programming is trickling out at best. Plus, parent company Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment — yes, the company behind those self-help books — has been beset by financial losses lately, with yearly losses in the hundreds of millions .

Liam Hemsworth as Dodge Tynes in 'Most Dangerous Games'

8. The Roku Channel

If you use a Roku device for your streaming, you’re probably already familiar with this service, which offers live TV channels and on-demand entertainment. Roku hosts a decent selection of originals, including shows dropped by other outlets like Most Dangerous Game , The Spiderwick Chronicles , and Chad . One big drawback, though, is that The Roku Channel is only available on Roku devices, compatible Samsung Smart TVs, compatible Amazon Fire TV devices, on the website, or on the mobile app. Apple TV users, notably, aren’t invited.

Helen Mirren as Jane Tennison in 'Prime Suspect'

Plex might be the best ad-supported streaming service you’ve never heard of. Originally, the company focused on media server software, but it started offering free movies and TV shows in 2019. Now the Plex library includes movies and TV shows both highbrow and lowbrow — Prime Suspect , Spartacus , and Broadchurch are standouts — plus a seemingly endless selection of live TV channels. (No originals, though!)

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in 'Alien'

YouTube’s ad-supported movie collection is impressive — it includes the sci-fi classic Alien , the Western film True Grit , the teen romances A Walk to Remember and 10 Things I Hate About You , and an unrated version of the comedy Bridesmaids . And the TV offerings are extensive, but note that YouTube only hosts certain seasons of shows like The Good Wife and Farscape . In another bummer, YouTube is no longer producing original programming.

Trevante Rhodes as Black in 'Moonlight'

Gone are the days when you’d need to get DVDs from the library. Now, anyone with a library card can access their local library system’s catalog of digital titles with Kanopy, which advertises films like Moonlight and Lady Bird on its homepage. The library card prerequisite could be a hurdle for some viewers, though, and Kanopy is unavailable in some areas — the Chicago and New York City library systems aren’t connected yet, for example. On the plus side, however, Kanopy offers a wide variety of films and TV shows.

Greta Lee as Nora in 'Past Lives'

Like Kanopy, Hoopla serves up titles from your local library system. Again, titles vary by library system, but Hoopla’s “Popular Movies” lineup currently lists Oscar contenders like Past Lives , The Whale , and Everything Everywhere All At Once , while “Popular Television” includes tons of British telly. Plus, there’s more than cinematic fare: Hoopla also hosts ebooks, audiobooks, music albums, and comics. (FYI, neither Hoopla nor Kanopy currently have original programming.)

Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt in 'Mission: Impossible'

3. Pluto TV

Paramount Global’s free streamer is a legitimate planet in the FAST solar system. Pluto TV’s on-demand offerings currently include multiple movies from the Mission: Impossible , Bad Boys , Transformers franchises, and the service is the exclusive free home of series like I Love Lucy , Frasier , Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , and CSI . Pluto TV’s Live TV lineup has something for everyone — with multiple channels in categories like comedy, sci-fi, true crime, game shows, and competition reality — all organized in an easy-to-navigate user interface.

Ronald Gladden in 'Jury Duty'

The streaming provider formerly known as IMDb TV is an Amazon property now, and despite the introduction of ads to Prime Video, Amazon assures us Freevee isn’t going anywhere . That’s good news for anyone who enjoys Freevee’s content, which includes many well-known movies, buzzy Freevee originals (like Jury Duty , Bosch: Legacy , and Leverage: Redemption ), and even some Prime Video titles (like Fallout and The Boys ).

Angelina Jolie as Jane Smith in 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'

This Fox Corporation-owned streaming service is coming off its best month yet , with a higher average viewership than several paid streaming platforms. Tubi has a quarter-million movies and TV episodes, including blockbusters like Mr. & Mrs. Smith , The Maze Runner and Tenet , plus TV shows like Gilligan’s Island , Roots , Southland , and Scandal . And Tubi is staking its claim in the scripted originals space, with upcoming movies and TV shows starring Peter Dinklage , Juliette Lewis , and Lauren Graham . Tubi or not Tubi? Definitely Tubi.

Tubi TV: Free movies, shows and more

There's a plethora of ad-supported streaming services for free movies and series — and Tubi is a great one.

Tubi app on Apple TV

Tubi TV is top of the list for free online movies and shows. The ad-supported streaming service has quickly become a must-try service for its deep content, availability across a couple of dozen devices — and the fact that you simply cannot beat the cost.

Tubi TV is free.

That's thanks to advertising, of course. So maybe it's not 100 percent right to say Tubi TV has free movies and shows, it's just that you don't have to pay anything more than a few minutes of your time watching ads. (Or not. You can look away. We won't tell.) But it's also not wrong. Whatever — here's everything you need to know about Tubi TV .

What is Tubi TV?

There's no shortage of streaming services out there that serve up movies and shows for free. Tubi TV is one of them. You can find movies and shows from Fox, Warner Bros., MGM, Paramount, Lionsgate and more. Tubi is available on more than two dozen devices.

Where is Tubi available?

Tubi is an American streaming service, so of course, you can watch it from the United States. Outside the United States, Tubi is officially available in Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.

Tubi is currently blocked in the United Kingdom (due to GDPR/admin issues) but, judging by the "coming soon" message on their website, it looks as though Tubi is working on fixing that.

What kind of content does Tubi have?

Tubi has free movies and shows from a host of studios, with new content coming in all the time. Channels you may recognize from traditional television include A&E, BabyFirst TV, Complex Networks, CONtv, Docurama, Dove Channel, FilmRise Classic TV, Fox, Full Moon Features, Lifetime, Shout! Factory TV, So ... Real, and more.

Tubi also serves up a number of curated collections as another way to sift through the content. That includes things like Award Winners and Nominees, Black Cinema, Bollywood Dreams, Cult Classics, Good Eats (as in food, not the Alton Brown show), Get Fit, Ganadores y Nominados (Spanish award winners and nominees), Not on Netflix and more.

Then there are the usual sort of genres, like Comedy, Action, Foreign films, LGBTQ, Science Fiction and so on. Tubi adds new movies and shows every month, so you'll definitely want to check out their "Recently added" section.

What devices is Tubi available on?

Tubi TV is available on just about every major platform you could ever want to watch it on. That includes the most prevalent — Roku and Roku TV, as well as Amazon Fire TV.

You're also able to watch Tubi on Android and iOS devices, Apple TV (fourth generation and up), NVIDIA Shield, PlayStation 4 and PS5, Xbox One, Series S and Series X, Amazon Echo Show, Google Nest Hub, Cox Contour set-top boxes, and sat TVs from Vizio, Hisense, Sony, and Samsung.

And that's just for starters, of course. You also can watch Tubi in a web browser.

The list is mostly the same outside the United States, where Amazon Fire TV and Roku rule the roost. Apple TV, iOS and Android are all on board, too, as are smart TVs.

7. Tencent Video

wetv vip homepage

Tencent Video, also called WeTV VIP, offers a library full of features, both popular and original content, under every genre you can imagine. The catalog is extensive, so if you're in the mood for some Asian shows or movies, that's where to find it. Believe it or not, it's also a great anime streaming service if that's what you feel like watching.

You can watch WeTV VIP for free without even signing in to an account. But as with most other streaming services, if you decide to sign in or sign up, the platform offers various perks. For example, you can view content in advance, skip ads, add a second device linked to the same account, and so on.

You can subscribe to WeTV VIP and pay monthly ($5.99), quarterly ($17.49), or annual ($56.99) fees, or you can enjoy it for free.

wetv homepage

You can think of WeTV as a double-whammy. It turns out WeTV is a popular name for a streaming service. So, if you search for the platform by name, you might come across the above-mentioned one, with a library full of Asian features, or this one, which is American through and through.

WeTV has a catalog chock-full of reality TV and dramatizations, perfect for those guilty pleasure viewings. Some content on the platform requires you to sign in so you can view it, but other features do not. You can press play and start watching.

It's completely free to enjoy, but like cable TV programming, you have to put up with a lot of ads along the way.

9. PopCornFlix

Popcornflix homepage with Moby Dick Movie

Popcornflix is an excellent source for free TV shows and movies. Content ranges from obscure titles to popular blockbusters of the past. Fans of 80s and 90s films will find a plethora of fan favorites.

No sign-up or account is required, making it a quick way to begin streaming, either through a web browser or the Popcornflix app.

While the content is free, Popcornflix does impose unskippable ads into both films and TV shows. Luckily, they are minimal and non-intrusive.

10. CBC Gem

CBC Gem homepage

CBC Gem is a Canadian streaming service with a vast catalog of movies and shows. If you try to view the content outside Canada, a pop-up says the content isn't available. Fortunately, there are ways to bypass internet restrictions , including using a VPN.

The streaming platform lets you browse shows, films, short films, short-form series, documentaries, and kids' content. Everything is shown in neat categories. Plus, the service has Live TV and a Most Recent Episodes section where you can scout for the latest uploads.

You can enjoy the content for free; no sign-up or sign-in is required. You can simply open CBC Gem, press play on the first thing you see, and enjoy.

The free experience comes with ads, but if you'd like to view the streaming platform's features without interruption, you can subscribe to its Premium plan. It's $4.99/month, and new subscribers get their first month free.

Best sites to watch movies for free

Best sites to watch movies for free

Streaming websites are more popular than ever — but free streaming services are even better. It’s easy to overspend on Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max and other paid apps. That’s why so many of us head to our browsers and type “free movie websites” or “watch online movie sites.”

Luckily, there are many ways you can stream free movies online. We found a few free movie websites that let you enjoy five-star flicks without paying a dime — all from the comfort of your computer or laptop. A few even let you watch from streaming devices like a Roku or an Amazon Fire TV stick .

Check out the list below to see the 15 best sites for watching free movies online. Make sure to bookmark your favorites, so nights at home can be just as fun as going out to the theater — while costing you nothing!

If you love artsy or classic films, Kanopy is the best site for your free movie streaming purposes. With gems from the Criterion Collection, as well as modern indie masterpieces, Kanopy does its best to get high-quality and critically acclaimed cinema into people’s living rooms, all at no cost.

To use Kanopy, your local library, university or college needs to be connected to it. See how to check if your library is connected by tapping or clicking here . With a library card or your college email login, you can access Kanopy’s catalog at any time.

NOTE : Kanopy’s movie offerings change periodically, so if you want to watch “Moonlight” or “Lady Bird,” make sure to do so while they’re still listed. Movies come back to Kanopy, but it’s not always clear when, so keep that in mind when making your viewing selections.

2. Popcornflix

For those who prefer comedies, thrillers and more mainstream movies (“popcorn flicks,” if you will), Popcornflix is the perfect free streaming site. It gives you access to tons of movies and TV shows in exchange for playing ads while you watch.

If ads annoy you, this may not be your favorite site, but you can’t deny that the selection is vast, covering a variety of film eras and recent releases.

Popcornflix can be accessed through the web, but you can also download its app on Roku, Apple TV, Google Play, Amazon or Xbox to watch on your TV screen.

3. Internet Archive

Here’s another great free movies website:

Educate yourself and connect to the past by watching old movies on the Internet Archive, one of the most famous free streaming services.

Do you love classic movies? Like the silent and black-and-white films with the great stars of yore? Many of these now live in the Internet Archive, a site that captures all media, like books, music and films that have entered the public domain.

When content is old enough, it is no longer subject to copyright laws, so it’s free to utilize and watch. That’s how Internet Archive can have feature-length movies streaming for free — but it’s also why many are from the 1920s and 1930s. For classic movie buffs, you can’t find a better site.

4. Sony Crackle

Sony Crackle, formerly known as Crackle, is another excellent site to watch modern movies and TV shows for free, but, like with Popcornflix, you do so with ads. We know ads can be very annoying, but that’s the trade-off when you don’t want to pay for the film.

If you like action and thriller movies and some older TV shows that are hard to find on other platforms, Sony Crackle certainly makes sitting through some ads worth it.

Though primarily a platform for buying movies and TV episodes, Vudu also has many free feature-length films and TV shows for you to watch — once again, possible thanks to ads. Vudu is good at reporting how long movies will remain free (the catalog changes monthly), and it has a ton of modern movies and some beloved older dramas and comedies.

You can get Vudu on your computer, game consoles, streaming devices, smart TV, Blu-ray players, phones and tablets. You have to sign up for a free Vudu account to use the apps and site. So the next time you find yourself typing “free movies online sites” into your browser, head straight to this digital library instead.

6. Amazon Freevee, formerly IMDb TV

You may remember the IMDb Channel, named after the Internet Movie Database. Amazon owns it, and it’s renamed it Amazon Freevee, hoping the new name will attract some attention and much-needed viewers.

Freevee allows Amazon to play both sides of the streaming market. There’s Amazon Prime Video with no commercials, and Freevee does carry commercials but not as many as network TV. You need an Amazon account to watch movies, and you can watch to your heart’s content.

Do you have a library card? Check out hoopla, one of the most helpful free streaming services.

Libraries offer tons of services as it is. Tap or click here to see what we mean . But your library card can get you hoopla as well. It’s the digital service of Midwest Tape, a company that provides media products and services like DVDs, CDs and audiobooks to libraries.

Just sign up for hoopla with your email and library card and you’ll have access to tons of movies and TV shows. Plus the ability to use the hoopla app on your phone, tablet, Amazon Fire device, Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV and Android TV devices.

It doesn’t work with every library system, so make sure to ask the next time you’re at your library. If you don’t have access, ask what your library can do to get it. Free, streamable movies are a great offering, so you could help yourself and your fellow library patrons by encouraging the signup.

8. The Roku Channel

If you have a Roku, you can access The Roku Channel, which gets you free movie and TV content. You can stream live shows on the Roku channel and watch an ever-changing catalog of movies and TV shows, all at no cost.

You can add your premium subscriptions to the Roku Channel to watch things like HBO and Showtime all in one place on your Roku. But free content is available even without them, though you may find similar options on Popcornflix, FilmRise, Vidmark, American Classics and YuYu.

For access to all of these libraries together in one place, The Roku Channel is worth adding to your device. But if you don’t have a Roku, you can watch many of its options at the other places listed above.

YouTube has its share of feature-length films uploaded illegally, and those tend to disappear quickly thanks to YouTube’s algorithms. Users who attempt this are pretty silly since YouTube offers many movies for free, in addition to ones available for rent or purchase — you just have to be willing to watch ads with them.

One way to see what free movies are available is to go to the Movies & Shows channel , available from the YouTube homepage, and click See More next to the Free to watch movies category. There are a few gems you might enjoy (particularly comedies) and tons of kid-friendly content if you have little ones you want to entertain.

Streaming has made movie watching much more fun, even more so when it’s free. Fortunately, there are tons of free online movie streaming sites, and all you have to do is sign up for a free account or watch a few ads along the way.

YouTube recently added 4,000 more free episodes of TV shows. Tap or click here for details .

10. Tubi TV

You can find anything on Tubi, from quirky, artsy films to classic movies that made history. You can also watch popular shows on it. One of its best features is its site design, reminiscent of Netflix. Just select your favorite genre and you’ll see Tubi’s library of options.

Its library is a little small, but what you’ll find is diverse. For instance, it offers a lot of different categories, from action to comedies. It’s also easy to use. Hover over an eye-catching title and you’ll see the star rating, summary and cast.

This is one of the best free streaming services. You can watch a ton of excellent oldies.

Although it’s ad-supported, the commercials aren’t overwhelming. It’s kind of like if you were watching TV straight from a popular channel: Every 15 minutes or so, you’ll take a short ad break. They aren’t too long — only around one to two minutes. Then, you can get back to whatever show or flick you’re watching.

This free website offers over 190 different channels you can watch. That includes newly launched movie channels, breaking news, sports shows and even stand-up comedy.

It also has a simple, easy-to-use design that puts your streaming experience first. You can scroll through different channels or view all of them at once on one screen. Plus, it offers both live and on-demand content, which means you can easily navigate between programs or shows from each channel.

12. Fawesome.tv

Want to try one of the newer free streaming services out there? Look no further than Fawesome.tv . Stream from here and you can watch over 10,000 HD movies and TV shows.

There aren’t any genre limits: you can watch action, horror, comedy and even children’s movies. It even has a “Watch list” that highlights popular new arrivals in different categories. It sometimes has themed sections to reflect the latest holiday. You can watch it on your smartphone, Windows PC or different smart TVs.

13. Haystack News

This is a great way to stay up with the times. Haystack News lets you watch live news channels, including ABC News Live, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, CBSN, Euronews, Yahoo Finance and more. You can even watch live local news broadcast stations from various partners.

This ad-supported streaming service has more than 400 partners. This includes over 50 live news and weather channels, which cover around 90% of local U.S. markets. It’s a helpful resource if you’re planning a vacation and want to prepare for rain, shine, sleet or snow.

If you want to watch news, add Haystack News to your list of free streaming services.

14. Live TV on Plex

In February of 2022, Plex released a new free live TV service. Sit through a few ads and you can watch thousands of free movies, TV shows, documentaries and more.

You get over 80 channels, many are filtered by genre. You can watch news channels, on-demand movies from Lionsgate, Warner Bros. and more, as well as some of the most popular films.

Live TV on Plex also has content for kids, anime fans, sports lovers and even singers, thanks to its karaoke channels. You can upgrade for $5 if you have a TV antenna to get live local channels.

Next time you sit down for movie night, remember these free streaming services

We verified these websites, but watch out for other lists you’ll find on the web. Say you type in the words “sites to watch movies online free” or “free online movie streaming sites.” Not every online movie website is as safe as the ones on the list above.

Some will send you to shady sites full of suspicious links that try to download malware to your computer. Unfortunately, it’s a common problem, even when you’re not typing something like “free movie downloads no registration” into the search bar.

Clicking a link is always a bit of a gamble. If you’re lucky, the link gives you the information you want to see, or it could take you to a malicious website or a download stuffed with viruses.

Luckily, we put together some questions you should ask before clicking any link you find on the web. Tap or click here for simple ways to spot risky links.

We may receive a commission when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective.

Rhaenyra's reached her limit, and it's time to unleash Daemon

Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) looks flustered in a green and gold dress in House of the Dragon season 2

  • Global streams

"When the desire to kill and burn takes hold and reason is forgotten, we will not even remember what began the war in the first place," Rhaenys (Eve Best) prophecizes in House of the Dragon season 2 and so it proves, with both Green and Black Councils hailing their leader as the one true monarch, and war now afoot. House of the Dragon season 2 premieres on HBO and Max (7-day free trial) on Sunday, June 16. The series is shown on Crave in Canada, Sky in the UK, and Binge and Foxtel in Australia.

If Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) could see that the realm would struggle to accept a queen – even though Viserys named Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) his sole heir to the Iron Throne – she surely knew that Aegon's ascension (Tom Glynn-Carney) would be met with resistance.

Having kept her temper for the duration of the Game of Thrones prequel's debut season, the cruel death of Lucerys has pushed Rhaenyra past her limit. Plan A, Plan B and Plan C has become to take the Iron Throne by any means necessary, which means it's time to let Daemon (Matt Smith) run riot.

He and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) are fated to meet each other either on the battlefield or in the skies above it, but before that moment arrives, it's time to test the strength of their respective armies and dragons.

Based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy novel Fire and Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones , read on as we explain how to watch House of the Dragon season 2 online from anywhere.

Who are some of the top stars expected to play at Euro 2024?

Kylian Mbappe will lead France at Euro 2024, its first major international tournament since the 2022 FIFA World Cup , which it lost in penalties to Argentina . France is stacked with world-class talent at every position, but especially in the attack with names like Antoine Griezmann , Olivier Giroud , Ousmane Dembele and Randal Kolo Muani .

England will be looking to avenge its loss in the Euro 2020 final with a title-winning run in 2024, and it has reason to believe it can do it with one of the most in-form players in world soccer, Jude Bellingham . The 20-year-old will be the centerpiece of a group that already includes household names such as Harry Kane , Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka .

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to star for Portugal at Euro 2024 after a disappointing run at the 2022 World Cup. The only other players over 35 years old that are likely to have prominent roles for their countries are Croatia's Luka Modrić , Germany's Manuel Neuer and Giroud.

Premier League stars Kevin De Bruyne and Virgil van Dijk will also be at the tournament.

Where to watch Le Mans live stream 24-hour race online for free from anywhere

We've had a thorough look around to bring you some of the best options for where to watch a Le Mans live stream for the 2024 event today. You'll find that options have changed quite a lot since last year, but there are some free options out there despite many countries now pushing the world-famous endurance race behind a paywall.

There are hours and hours of coverage to be found for free in France, and we have the links to show you where. If you're not in the race's home nation, though, geo-restrictions will block you from the free Le Mans live stream. Unless you have a VPN, that is.

Don't have one yet? Not a problem. Setting up a VPN (virtual private network) is super simple, and it unlocks global streaming options by simulating your device's location to be wherever you want in the world. It also greatly improves your privacy and online security. There's even a special offer to save a whopping 49% on one. Look below for all the links you need today to watch the Le Mans live stream from anywhere.

If you're in the US, you can enjoy the race for free thanks to the return of the free trial over at Max . UK racing fans don't have a local free option, but a one-month Eurosport subscription is very affordable and a great pick if you don't fancy the VPN route.

Where to watch Le Mans live stream in the US

You can see the full Le Mans 24 race on Max this year, and given the service has just resurrected its free trial, you can sign up for free and enjoy the entire race without paying a thing. It's showing on Max via the B/R sports add-on, which is currently free.

If you decide to keep Max after the 7-day free trial, you'll get to keep using the free sports add-on. But just be aware there are plans to eventually start charging $9.99 per month on top of your Max subscription. But this will be an opt-in experience, and they've had it available at no extra charge for months now.

How to watch Le Mans live stream for free from anywhere

French TV channel L'Equipe has extensive Le Mans coverage showing online and on free-to-air TV this weekend, although there is a gap overnight. It will be live for the start and plenty of hours afterward, but at 1:30 a.m. (local time), coverage will take a break until 5 a.m. before resuming for the rest of the race.

That's a great window overall (you've got to sleep, too, right?), especially considering it's free. You'll have to pay up to the like of Eurosport or Max if you want the full 24 hours live - Max has a free trial, but it's tough to activate without a US bank card.

If you're not in France, you'll be unable to play this free Le Mans live stream without the aid of a VPN, as you'll encounter a geo-block. A VPN will fix that for you.

A VPN is the best way to get around geo-restrictions and is a viable option to watch Le Mans online. A VPN lets your device appear to be in a different country and offers excellent privacy options at home or on public WiFi for your phone, laptop, streaming devices, and more. To watch Le Mans, simply switch it to France, then tune into the L'Equipe live stream and enjoy all the racing action.

Our preferred option of all the best VPN providers is ExpressVPN , which comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee if you're unsatisfied. Check out the latest deal details below.

The clinching moments

Tennessee 7 , Florida State 2

Tennessee defeated Florida State 7-2 to advance to the championship series of the 2024 Men's College World Series. It's the second time the Volunteers have made the finals in program history — and the first time since 1951.

The Volunteers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Tennessee boosted the lead up to 6-0 by the seventh inning stretch before Florida State got on the board late. Tennessee's pitching staff allowed only seven hits in the game.

No program has more wins over the last four seasons than Tennessee, and now the Volunteers will have a chance to add a title to support those successful seasons.

Texas A&M 6,  Florida 0

Texas A&M defeated Florida 6-0 to win advance to the 2024 Men's College World Series finals.

The Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, forcing an early Florida pitching change. Meanwhile, excellent pitching from Justin Lamkin for the first five innings kicked off a shutout effort. Lamkin had nine of Texas A&M's 14 strikeouts in the win.

🐊 Florida routs Kentucky, advances to semis

Florida beats Kentucky

The Gators end Kentucky's first-ever trip to Omaha and earn a date with the Aggies in tonight's semifinals. Florida's 15-4 victory was highlighted by a seven-run first inning — which included a Donay grand slam — and a Caglianone homer in the sixth to set a new Florida all-time home run record at 75. Tonight, Florida will take on Texas A&M. The Gators will have to beat the Aggies twice.

Caglianone's 75 career home runs are tied for the most among active players with LSU’s Tommy White and are the third-most by a single player in SEC history.

🥵 Gators add 5 more runs in the 5th| UF 14, UK 4

The Gators have been relentless at the plate and are showing no signs of slowing down. Brody Donay launched the ball well over the fence with an exit speed of 118 MPH for his second homer of the day. Thats the hardest-hit ball in the 2024 MCWS.

Then, a Shelnut bunt scored Caglianone, who stole third to get in scoring position before a Heyman double brought Shelnut back to home plate. A Wilson two-RBI single to right field capped off the inning to give the Gators a 10-run lead.
