Before you choose a resume template from Word or Pages, the first step is think about your work experience and the nature of the position for which you're applying.

Resume Prep

If you have extensive experience doing the work that the new position includes, use the more traditional, chronological resume format. That type of resume lists your most recent jobs near the top of the page in reverse chronological order. If you're applying for a job that you haven't done before – but for which you still have the skills to qualify – use a skills-based or "functional" resume, which highlights your best skills or accomplishments near the top of the page. You'll know what skills are best to list for an individual job by closely reading the job posting, and then pulling out the required or desired skills the employer wants that apply to you. In either case, make some notes about your most recent jobs, the duties you performed, and the skills required for the job.

Microsoft Word Templates

Launch Word for Mac from your Mac's Dock and then select "Resumes" from the list of Templates that appear along the left hand side of the window. If none of those appeal to you, check out the Microsoft Office "Templates/Resumes" Web page. Once the template is downloaded, it should appear among your templates when you launch Word. From the Templates window, click on the one you want to highlight, and then select your desired colors and fonts. If the employer has specified certain fonts or font sizes in the job posting, choose those here. Then click "Choose." If you decide to change the font or font size after you've begun working on the document, that's fine too; simply highlight the text within the document, and change the font from the "Fonts" panel. The formatting of the document should remain the same.

Entering Your Information

Now fill your personal information into each pre-formatted field. Double-click on a section to highlight it, and then simply start typing; the generic template information will disappear and be replaced by your text. Enter your name, address, skills, jobs, dates and other information into the correct fields. To save the file, click "File," and then "Save As," and then name the document and click "Save." Word will automatically save it as a Word-based DOCX file – which tends to be the preferred file type for business, and for online resume databases. Be sure to review the document carefully so that none of the generic information provided by Word is left in the document. Have someone else review the document before you print it.

The Mac Alternative: Pages

If you're using Pages, follow a very similar process to create your resume. Launch the application, choose from the resume templates listed along the left hand side of the page, and click "Choose." If you want another template, try the iWork Community website, which offers several additional templates for download. Pages will automatically put your name into the "Name" field, as well as the phone number, if you have one saved to your user account. Double-click on a section to highlight it, and then start typing your personal details to delete the generic information. Highlight sections to drag and move them, or even delete them altogether. When you are done, click "File," and "Save As." Pages will save the document as a PAGES document, unless you specify otherwise, and it will allow you to save a copy as a Word document by clicking the check box in the "Save As" window. To save the document as plain text, click "File," and then "Export," and then choose "Plain Text."

I'll repeat it, THIS APP IS A RIP OFF. It should be reported to the BBB. You can't do anything with this app. Trying to type a resume to get a job and you get this crap. You type in the info that it calls for in the contact list and there is no where to go but cancel. Does this sound like a way to complete the info that is needed? I should have read the customer reviews first. I just read the product info and it sounded like a good app. Boy was I wrong. This is really frustrating? There are no apps to make a resume that I can find. I bought another one and it says that I need another app to use it, but my Mac isn't programed for it. More money down the drain! THIS REALLY STINKS BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP DOING THIS. I NEED A RESUME TO GET A JOB.

I spent time putting in all my information hoping to get a resume that I need ASAP it took the information Will not let me print or e-mail. It shows me the whole resume when I view it. But it will not print or e-mail the whole resume I do not recommend wasting your time on this application it is worthless. It is a big ripoff. The reviews must be fake. Because it will not work if you purchases this app. I have to start all over again to experiment with other Applications to get them to work. I never knew it could be so difficult to do a resume with an Apple Computer. Thanks to this application I will probably not get the position because I wasted too much time on this application.

Don’t bother wasting your money….

When creating a new resume it tells you that you first have to create your contact list. When you go to that page and fill out the information the only button at the bottom is cancel, there is not a continue or accept or ok button so you cannot create a contact list, therefor you cannot creat a new resume because it will not let you proceed until you create a contact list. I will contact Apple or the software company to get my money back.

How to Control Resume

Resume has a system preference that lets you turn the function on or off globally. To turn Resume on or off for all applications, follow these steps.

Select System Preferences from the Apple menu or click its icon in the Dock .

Select the General preference pane.

To enable Resume, make sure the box next to Close windows when quitting an app does not have a check mark in it. To deactivate Resume, put a check in that box.

To enable Resume in OS X Lion, place a check mark in the Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps box.

Globally turning Resume on or off isn't the best approach to managing the feature. You probably wouldn't mind your Mac remembering some application states and forgetting others. There are several ways to accomplish this.

How to Use Resume Only When Needed

If you turn Resume off globally, you can still use its saved-state feature on a case-by-case basis, by using the Option key when you quit an application.

Holding down the Option key when you select Quit from an application's menu changes the "Quit" menu entry to "Quit and Keep Windows." The next time you launch the application, its saved state is restored, including all open application windows and the documents or data they contain.

You can also use the same case-by-case approach to manage Resume when you turn it on globally. This time when you use the Option key , the Quit menu entry changes to "Quit and Close All Windows." This command causes the application to forget all window and document saved states. The next time you launch the application, it opens using its default settings.

From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Settings.

Click General in the sidebar.

Click Transfer or Reset on the right.

Click Erase All Content and Settings. Don't see this button?

macOS Monterey

From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Preferences.

From the System Preferences menu in the menu bar, choose Erase All Content and Settings. Don't see this option?

An erase assistant then opens. Follow the onscreen instructions to erase your Mac and restore it to factory settings. Before the erase begins, you will see a summary of all the settings, media, data, and other items that will be erased or turned off.

When asked to sign in with your administrator credentials, enter the password that you use to log in to your Mac. Forgot your login password?

You might be asked to enter your Apple ID password so that your Mac can sign out of Find My. Forgot your Apple ID password?

You might be asked if you want to back up your Mac before resetting it. If you want to do that, you can open Time Machine and back up to an external storage device .

Finally, you will be asked to click Erase All Content & Settings to confirm that you want to proceed.

Your Mac then restarts and briefly shows a black screen or progress bar.

If your Mac needs to reconnect to a Bluetooth accessory such as a keyboard or mouse, you might be asked to turn on the accessory. If the accessory doesn't connect within 30 seconds, turn the accessory off and back on. When reconnecting to a Bluetooth keyboard, you're asked to choose a language.

Your Mac then activates. Click Restart.

After your Mac restarts, a setup assistant guides you through the setup process, as if you're setting up your Mac for the first time.

If you're selling, giving away, or trading-in your Mac and want to leave it in an out-of-box state, don't use the setup assistant or your previously connected Bluetooth devices, if any. Just press and hold the power button on your Mac until it turns off.

If you can't use Erase All Content and Settings

Erase All Content and Settings is available only in macOS Monterey or later, and only on a Mac with Apple silicon or a Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip . If this feature isn't available or doesn't work on your Mac:

To both erase your Mac and reset it to factory settings, follow the steps in what to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac , but disregard the instructions for using Erase All Content and Settings.

To only erase your Mac without resetting it to factory settings, learn how to erase a Mac with Apple silicon or erase an Intel-based Mac .

When using Erase All Content and Settings, if you see a message explaining that other volumes need to be erased before you can erase all content and settings, you might have used Boot Camp to install Microsoft Windows. In that case, use Boot Camp to remove Windows and its partition .

OpenAI Announces ChatGPT App for Mac, GPT-4 for Free, and More

At its Spring Update event, OpenAI announced that it will be releasing a desktop app for the Mac, as seen in the screenshot below. The app will be rolling out to ChatGPT Plus subscribers starting today, ahead of a wider launch "in the coming weeks."

OpenAI already offers ChatGPT apps for the iPhone and iPad , and it plans to release a Windows version of the desktop app later this year.

OpenAI is also making some updates to ChatGPT's web interface, introducing a new home screen, a redesigned message layout, and more. The new look is "designed to be friendlier and more conversational," the company said.

It was recently reported that Apple is in the final stages of discussions with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT on the iPhone starting with iOS 18, which is expected to be unveiled at Apple's annual developers conference WWDC next month . iOS 18 is also rumored to feature many new on-device AI features from Apple directly.

The 2024 ipad pro outperforms your mac (and has a better screen, too).

This is the biggest iPad upgrade of all time.

Apple just revealed the seventh-generation iPad Pro. It's the biggest iPad upgrade of all time, equipped with an OLED display, a thinner chassis, and an all-new M4 processor that puts all Mac computers to shame.

Apple announced the new iPad Pro during its "Let Loose" hardware event. The upgraded tablet was joined by a mini-LED M2 iPad Air , an Apple Pencil Pro with haptic feedback and Find My technology, plus a slimmer iPad Magic Keyboard .

Meet the M4: Apple's "AI" Processor

Instead of debuting the M4 processor in a Mac computer, Apple decided to stick it in a tablet. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro (yes, Apple added an extra 0.1 inches to the 12.9-inch model) are equipped with the M4, which Apple calls an "AI" processor.

The M4 is built using an improved version of the 3nm process. Apple claims that the new iPad Pro will deliver a 50% greater CPU performance and four-times greater GPU performance than the two-year-old 2022 iPad Pro , which uses an M2 chipset. Additionally, the M4 offers dynamic caching and hardware-accelerated ray tracing support for enhanced gaming and lightning-fast 3D rendering.

This is, in Apple's words, the most powerful AI chipset in any consumer-grade device. The neural engine (or neural processing unit) in M4 is capable of performing 38 trillion AI operations per second. Very few apps take advantage of this capability, though Apple is introducing some new AI features for Logic Pro and other iPad apps, so I guess we're getting there.

Launching the M4 chipset in an iPad is a bizarre, ballsy move. This is the most powerful ARM desktop chipset on the market, it belongs in a "real" computer, yet here it is in a tablet. If I had to guess, this is Apple's way of wedging itself into the AI market bubble, building hype for the upcoming M4 Macs, and flexing on the competition (specifically the Qualcomm Snapdragon X ).

However, Apple constrains iPadOS to such an extent that it's impossible to take full advantage of the iPad Pro's power. And, in this form factor, the M4 may be throttled to avoid unnecessary heat or power consumption. I assume that the iPad Pro with M4 will outperform the M3 Mac in some areas (like ray tracing and machine learning) but fall short in other areas (such as video rendering and other extended high-intensity tasks).

As a quick side note, the launch of the M4 chipset suggests that Apple will not release an M3 Ultra processor. High-end devices that require an "Ultra" processor, specifically the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, will probably be equipped with M4 Ultra, assuming that Apple refreshes the Mac Studio and Mac Pro before the M5's arrival.

An OLED Screen, Thinner Design, and Landscape Webcam

The iPad Pro's new M4 chipset will be featured in thousands of headlines. People will argue whether the M4 is "overkill" or if it turns the iPad into a proper "laptop replacement." Like most people, I use the iPad for lightweight tasks. I'll never be able to push this tablet to its limit. And that's why the most exciting 2024 iPad Pro upgrade, at least for me, is the new OLED "Ultra Retina XDR" display.

Apple is using an OLED panel in both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro. This panel, which replaces the mini-LED display of previous models, provides a substantial boost in screen quality. OLED offers the best contrast ratio of any current display technology, and because the contrast is so rich, users will perceive increased sharpness and color vibrancy. While manufacturers like Samsung have been quick to adopt OLED, Apple has been relatively slow. The MacBook is expected to get an OLED upgrade later this year, but for now, the iPad Pro has a better screen than any MacBook.

Unlike mini-LED, OLED does not require a backlight. So, we get two bonus benefits—the iPad Pro is thinner than ever before, and its display will have a reduced impact on battery life (whether this leads to an increased battery life is yet to be seen). Per Apple, the new 13-inch iPad Pro measures just 5.1mm thick (down from 6.4mm) and weighs just 1.28 pounds. The 11-inch flavor is 5.3mm thick (down from 5.9mm) and weighs 0.98 pounds.

Apple's is also boasting an interesting "tandem OLED" technology that uses a pair of OLED panels to achieve LCD-like brightness. The new iPad Pro can reach a peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits and an SDR brightness of 1,000 nits. These figures are impressive for an OLED tablet, though I should note that this is the same peak brightness we got with the 2022 iPad Pro.

Finally, the new iPad Pro's selfie camera is placed in a landscape orientation. Most people set the iPad in landscape mode during video calls, so this makes sense—the camera is now at a more flattering angle and won't be obstructed by your thumb when you carry the iPad Pro. Rival tablet brands, such as Amazon Fire , have already shown that the landscape-oriented camera is a good idea.

Note that the iPad Pro's redesigned chassis may be incompatible with old cases, keyboard attachments, and other accessories. We're waiting for clarification from Apple.

Pricing and Availability

You can order the new seventh-gen iPad Pro starting today. The 11-inch model starts at $999, while the 13-inch monster is $1,299. Customers can choose between Wi-Fi and cellular models, though the cellular versions cost a few hundred dollars extra. Note that Apple has also launched an all-new Apple Pencil Pro and a thinner, lighter iPad Pro Magic Keyboard .

For reference, the 2022 iPad Pro lineup started at just $799. Apple has increased the starting price for the seventh-gen model by $200, though the new iPad Pro also ships with a minimum 256GB of storage instead of 128GB, so at least there's that. If you want to save money, I suggest looking into the new iPad Air , which is more Pro-like than ever before.
