A good resume is essential even if you’re not actively looking for a job. You never know when an opportunity might arise and it’s best to join resume coaching services . Plus the process of building a strong resume can help you articulate what you bring to the table, which can be useful in annual reviews, salary negotiations, lobbying for promotions, etc.

With my marketing background and advertising career I know a lot about crafting language to optimally present your credentials. Someone reading your resume should walk away with a clear impression of you as someone who can make things happen, not just someone who performs functions. So you’ll want to use words like created, spearheaded, initiated, strengthened, improved, etc. Minimize the use of phrases like “responsible for;”

After all, you can be responsible for something and still do a poor job of executing it.

But it’s not just about words – the look of your resume coaching services is important as well. So critiquing the layout and type font is something I do as well.

You do need to start with your “basic” (I.e. non-tailored) document that presents you in the best light. But if you’re applying for jobs you need to make sure that the resume is tightly tailored to the specs of your prospective position. “One size fits all” is a recipe for a sub-par resume in those situations.

Finally, creating a powerful LinkedIn profile is a related, and about as important, project. There should be many similarities between your profile and your resume; sometimes it makes sense for them to be exactly the same.

How long is a session.

Normally, sessions are 50 minutes long, although arrangements can be made for longer sessions.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

The answer to that question depends entirely on the issue(s) you are seeking to resolve. If you’re coming in for something fairly straightforward, such as networking or interviewing coaching, or to improve your resume/LinkedIn profile/cover letter, you’ll probably need to meet with me once or twice. If you’re looking to tackle a more complex issue (e.g. if you’re dissatisfied with your current career but don’t know what alternatives would make sense, and/or if there is a significant emotional block like low self-confidence or debilitating anxiety) we’re probably looking at somewhere between four and eight sessions. After a preliminary conversation with you I’ll be able to give you a reasonable estimate.

DO YOU HELP PEOPLE IMPROVE THEIR RESUMES?

Resume preparation is another of my specialties. Of equal importance is crafting an outstanding LinkedIn profile, for which I’ll also provide expert guidance.

DO YOU REQUIRE FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS, OR CAN YOU WORK REMOTELY?

For the foreseeable future I am only conducting sessions virtually (FaceTime, WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype, or phone). I have found virtual sessions to be just as effective as in-person, in addition to being more convenient for both my clients and me. I can schedule sessions just about any time between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays, and even on weekends if necessary.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

My rate per 50 minute session ranges from $250 to $450. The rate varies according to the complexity of the issue(s) we will be working on, and your ability to pay.

DO YOU OFFER PACKAGES?

If, after our initial meeting we determine that multiple sessions make sense, I will be happy to discuss a package with a reduced per-session fee.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

If you are eligible for insurance reimbursement (i.e. if our work together involves a significant emotional or psychological component, and if you have out-of-network mental health benefits), I will be happy to provide you with the documentation necessary for reimbursement. Unfortunately I will not be able to determine whether you have coverage as there are hundreds of types of plans offered by insurance carriers; you will need to contact your carrier or HR department to determine whether your plan provides coverage for my services.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE FIRST SESSION?

The primary tasks in our first session will be:

Agree to a goal (s) for our work together. Get to know each other so as to ensure that we’re a good “fit” (it’s very rare that the fit isn’t good). Agree to next steps that will begin to move the ball forward. I believe that every session should include assignments that will result in progress towards our agreed-upon goals.

Plus having coached many hundreds of clients in just about every conceivable field and through all kinds of challenges I have an unmatched breadth of career knowledge and insight.

Good Vs Bad ATS Resume Examples

Format: use reverse-chronological work experience resume format. List your most recent job at the top.

As a Human Resources (HR) Officer, you will provide substantive advice across a full range of HR functional areas, including workforce planning, talent acquisition, staffing and selection, employee development, compensation, benefits, policy, performance management, rewards and recognition, and retention. Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and her entourage are set to travel to Las Vegas on a business trip, shortly after the Democratic mayor faced scrutiny for going on a taxpayer-funded trip to the Masters Golf tournament.

A description of the event on the  mayor’s public calendar  said that she would attend the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) on an “economic mission.”

“On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will attend the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) LAS VEGAS to attract retail to the District of Columbia,” the description said. “This economic mission is coordinated by the Washington, DC Economic Partnership, which has organized the District’s presence at ICSC since 2001.”

In a press release , Bowser’s office touted the benefits reaped by attending the ICSCS.

“We know that Washingtonians in every part of DC want access to fantastic amenities. From the Lidl in Ward 7 to the Wegmans in Ward 3, those are conversations that started at ICSC,” said Bowser.

“Through programs like the Food Access Fund and the Neighborhood Prosperity Fund, we have made good progress in filling amenity gaps, but there is still more to do to ensure greater accessibility and equity – and filling those gaps and supporting the continued transformation of Downtown will be a focus of this trip.”

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Boswer is traveling to Las Vegas for a three day trip to attend the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) LAS VEGAS.

Bowser will attend the conference, which is held at Wynn Las Vegas, along with 14 other elected officials and staff members.

Bowser will attend the conference, which is held at Wynn Las Vegas, along with 14 other elected officials and staff members.

The latest trip comes after the Democratic mayor faced scrutiny over transparency about her trip to the Master’s Tournament in Augusta, Georgia last month.

According to the  mayor’s public schedule , Bowser attended the world-renowned golf tournament, “as part of a sports and economic development visit.”

Her team said that the mayor was invited by a major real estate company that does business in DC.

Bowser had previously defended her taxpayer-funded trip to the world-renowned tournament,  telling FOX 5  that they have “tried to be transparent.”

“We tried to be transparent, so I don’t know what questions you have that remain. We disclosed – I don’t know what questions you have that remain; we expect an invoice if it hasn’t – we haven’t received it yet from EDENS,” Bowser told FOX 5.

Bowser said that the trip to the Master’s tournament cost between $5,000 and $6,000 per person.

“… I believe that the estimated costs were in the range of $5-$6,000 and that’s for air travel … per person,” she told the local outlet.

The latest trip comes after the Democratic mayor faced scrutiny over transparency about her trip to the Master's Tournament in Augusta, Georgia last month.

The mayor did not say how much the trip to Las Vegas would cost.

The mayor defended her taxpayer-funded trip, saying that Washington DC is the “sports capital.”

“Listen, voters have placed their trust in me to make the best decisions for the District for the last 15 years, including three elections as mayor. We made no secret about the fact that we make sports investments,” Bowser said. “We are the sports capital, and we are going to promote the District in every corner of the world, and that has been my experience as mayor.”

D.C. clears major homeless encampment, but critical housing problems linger

More than 60 people living in tents and other shelters in the Foggy Bottom area were forcibly evicted by the city and the National Park Service.

Dozens of homeless adults were forced to scatter this week to far-flung parks and slivers of turf around the District after the National Park Service and D.C. officials cleared out several sites in the Foggy Bottom area that collectively had become the last large-scale homeless encampment in the city.

The encampment — occupying seven parcels of city and federal land from about 21st to 25th streets NW and along E Street and Virginia Avenue NW — was the site of last resort for many of D.C.’s chronically unhoused residents who have been evicted for years from park after park, street after street.

When the more than 60 homeless campers in Foggy Bottom saw notices two weeks ago announcing that the area would be closed to tents, many already knew the drill. Several had been forcibly removed last year from McPherson Square , D.C.’s largest homeless encampment in recent history, and from numerous other sites since then.

Anticipating this week’s eviction, unhoused residents gathered shopping carts and old luggage to carry their belongings. They obtained new tents and staked them elsewhere. By the time officials rolled earth movers and trash compactors through the Foggy Bottom encampment Thursday, most of its residents had already departed — to sloped highway shoulders, weedy stretches of Rock Creek Park and other places farther from the District’s resource-rich downtown core.

Elected officials in D.C. and around the country have struggled since 2020 to limit the number of homeless residents opting to sleep on streets rather than seek shelter in congregate living facilities as housing costs have skyrocketed and pandemic-era federal resources meant to help people stay in their homes have dried up.

Thursday’s forced exodus was the latest effort by Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s administration and the federal government to clear homeless encampments big and small around the nation’s capital. Opponents said the undertaking will erode trust among homeless residents and make it harder for Bowser (D) to achieve her goal of reducing chronic homelessness.

“All encampment closures do is make homelessness less visible, less safe and harder for us to connect folks to housing,” said Adam Rocap, deputy director of the homeless services provider Miriam’s Kitchen, as he looked out over the encampment Thursday morning. “The trauma of this is very visceral. … There could have been a more targeted approach.”

Shelley Byars, 46, has lived in the Foggy Bottom encampment since last summer and was previously pushed out from half a dozen sites despite having been approved for a housing subsidy in 2022. As the morning sun shone through the blue-and-green tent in which she has lived for the past several months, Byars unzipped the nylon flap and stepped outside, wiping sleep from her eyes. She was already packed.

Byars piled her belongings, neatly loaded into laundry baskets and rolling suitcases, along the sidewalk and waited for advocates to help her move. After having lived in and been removed from sites in three of the District’s four quadrants, she was no longer sure where to go — or how she might get there.

“They don’t care about us,” Byars said, gesturing to D.C. and Park Service workers.

As the 10 a.m. eviction deadline approached, Byars decided she would relocate across the street to a small stretch of grass that had not been marked for clearing.

“I’ll stay here until I can find my way somewhere else or they tell me I have to leave again, I guess,” she said, shrugging. “At least they’ll have to give me another two weeks notice.”

Around 10 a.m., crews in white coveralls began to close off the site. Officials loaded unclaimed items into trash compactors and unfurled a long line of black fencing to block access to grassy areas. They stretched yellow caution tape around a tent that had been sitting open, attracting rodents.

Kirk D. Johnsen, 38, lived in the Foggy Bottom encampment for nearly a year and had never been through a park eviction before. He paced anxiously around the park, chain-smoking and swigging coffee as the commotion around him grew.

Johnsen said he tried staying in a shelter, but the environment triggered his post-traumatic stress disorder and brought on panic attacks. He decided to camp outside instead and was made to feel welcome by several people in the Foggy Bottom encampment. He felt safe, he said, with other people around to watch his stuff — and his back.

“I’m not okay right now, to be honest with you,” he said. “This whole thing gives me so much anxiety. … To them, we’re just a sore thumb that won’t go away.”

In 2023, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the District rose by 14 percent, to nearly 5,700, according to data released this week from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

Although homelessness in the District has declined since 2020 by nearly 12 percent, homelessness in the region has continued to grow. Visible homelessness, including those who sleep in tents or unsheltered, has vexed city officials, who have struggled to staff critical social work positions and failed to provide timely access to housing subsidies.

On Thursday, as polo-shirted officials wound through the rows of tents in Foggy Bottom and offered shelter beds to anyone who remained at the encampment, the District’s shelter occupancy rate hovered at around 99 percent. Vacancies range from two to seven beds per night, officials said.

Had more people agreed to seek shelter than facilities have room for this week, the District would have to create overflow space — similar to how shelters operate in cold-weather months to make room for those at risk of hypothermia, according to Wayne Turnage, the deputy mayor for heath and human services. This often means setting up more cots than shelters are built to hold or providing living space in areas not built for that purpose.

It was not immediately clear if any residents agreed to enter a shelter Thursday.

Turnage said this week that encampment closures are distinct from the city’s strategy to end chronic homelessness. He said they are a way for the District to address growing health and safety concerns and restore areas to public use. In Foggy Bottom, he cited growing rat infestations and complaints from pedestrians in the area who felt unsafe walking through the maze of tents.

“We don’t close [encampments] as a solution to homelessness,” Turnage said “That’s insane. That’s why the mayor spends hundreds of millions of dollars to try to put people in situations where they don’t need to live on the street.”

But nonprofit leaders in recent weeks have questioned the District’s commitment to its vision of ending chronic homelessness, pointing to cuts in the mayor’s proposed 2025 budget that would limit funding for new housing vouchers — the city’s main vehicle for moving unhoused residents into more permanent homes.

The budget proposal also would cut funding to some of the city’s emergency housing programs, including rental assistance, rapid rehousing vouchers and the District’s homeless street outreach. The Bowser administration has pointed to a $700 million shortfall this year as the reason behind many of the mayor’s cuts. Voters, too, have grown skeptical of the city’s approach to homelessness.

In a recent Washington Post-Schar School poll, 76 percent of residents said Bowser was doing a poor or not-so-good job addressing homelessness in the city.

Some residents who gave follow-up interviews said they took issue with the encampment clearings. If the unhoused aren’t bothering anyone, then “leave them be,” said Cilista Johnson, 37. “They’re living their lives. … They can’t afford to have their own home.”

By the time most of the tents had been removed Thursday, only scraps of life remained: a fine-toothed comb on the pavement, a discarded bar of soap, snack wrappers and a unopened case of Narcan nasal spray used to treat narcotics overdoses.

David Beatty, 65, who had lived in the encampment for the last nine months, lingered after the earth movers rolled past. He moved methodically up and down the grassy knolls with a broom and pail, sweeping away what remained of his campsite.

“The earth is my home,” he said as he swept. “And I like to keep my home clean.”

Finnish carrier will resume Estonia flights in June after GPS interference prevented landings

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Finland’s national carrier Finnair said Thursday that it will resume flights to Estonia’s second largest city in June after two of its planes were prevented from landing in Tartu last month because of GPS disruptions.

The cause of the GPS interference that forced the two flights to return to Helsinki on April 25 and April 26 was not immediately known. Estonian officials blamed the jamming in the region on Russia.

Finnair said Tartu Airport now uses radio signals sent from ground stations instead of GPS signals to direct plane landings.

Jari Paajanen, head of Finnair’s operations control, thanked the Estonian Air Navigation Services for finding an alternative method “so swiftly.”

The airline said earlier this month that it was suspending flying to Tartu until May 31 because of the interference. The Finnish carrier, which is the only airline operating international flights to Tartu, has flights from Helsinki to Tartu twice a day, six days a week.

The airline said GPS interference has significantly increased since 2022. Earlier Finnair said interference has been reported “especially near Kaliningrad, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.” Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has said that the jamming was carried out by Russia and could eventually lead of a crash, adding that “this can be considered as a hybrid attack.”

Finnair said its aircraft systems detect GPS interference and its pilots are “well aware of GPS interference and know how to prepare for it.”
