When should I change plans?

Changing plans is the right choice when you want to move all users assigned to a single plan. When you change plans, all users in the current plan are assigned licenses for the new plan at the same time. If you only want to move some users to a new plan, buy a new plan with the number of licenses you need, and assign those licenses to the users that you want to move. For more information, see Move users to a different subscription .

  • If you’re using the Simplified view , select Subscriptions .
  • If you’re using the Dashboard view , go to the Billing > Your products page.
  • Select the subscription that you want to manage.
  • On the subscription details page, in the Other subscription options section, select Change to a different subscription option .
  • On the Compare products and select another option page, select a different plan to compare with your current plan. When you find the one that you want to buy, select Next .
  • Choose when to schedule the change, enter the number of licenses that you want, select a subscription length and a billing frequency, then select Next .
  • Review your selections, then select Save changes .

  • On the Available upgrades page, find a new product, then select Upgrade .
  • On the Checkout page, select or add a payment method, then select Place order .

After you place the order, it might take a few minutes to finalize the change. You can start using your new subscription right away.

Why can't I change plans?

The information in this section only applies if you have an MOSA billing account type.

If you can't select the View upgrades recommended for your org link, it means that you can't automatically change your plan right now. In some cases, you can resolve the issue so that you can view available plans. In other cases, you can change plans manually , instead. The following table lists issues you might encounter when you try to change your plan, and tells how to resolve them.

Issue Resolution
You have more users than licenses. To change plans automatically, all users must have valid licenses. until you have the same or fewer users as your number of licenses.
The current subscription isn't fully set up or the service isn't available. For example, if a service in your existing plan has an incident, you can't change plans until all services are healthy. To see if there are provisioning or service health issues, in the admin center, go to the > page.

If you find that a service isn't fully provisioned, or there's a service health issue, wait a few hours for the service to become available and try again. If you still have a problem, .
Another plan is in the process of being changed or a credit check is pending. Wait until the credit check is complete before you change plans. Credit checks can take up to two working days.
The subscription isn't currently eligible to change plans. You can .
You have two or more plans for the same product. You can only change plans automatically if all users have licenses to the same plan. For example, if you have two Microsoft 365 Business Standard plans, you can't automatically change one of them to a different plan. In this case, move all users into a single plan, cancel the unused plan, then try changing plans again.
You have a government or non-profit plan. If you have a government or non-profit plan, you can .
The plan that you want to change to isn't a supported option. The plans that are available to change to are displayed based on the services in your current plan. You can only automatically change to a plan that has the same data-related services, or to a higher version. This ensures that users don't lose data related to those services during the change.

If you want to change to a plan with fewer services, you can .
Your subscription has an add-on. If you start to change plans and your subscription has an add-on that prevents you from continuing, remove the add-on. You can add it back later if you still need it. You can also .
Your invoice has an unpaid balance. This only applies if you pay for your subscription by invoice. To resolve this issue, find the subscription on the page, and select the or link in the section. After the payment is made, try changing plans again.
I have a different problem than what's listed here. You can or .

What does automatically changing plans do to my service and billing?

When you change plans automatically, your services and billing are affected in the following ways.

Access to services

  • Admins: Admins can't make changes to the subscription details page while the change is in process, but you can use the rest of the admin center. The change between plans can take up to an hour.
  • Users: Users experience no interruption of service during the plan change. They continue to have the existing service until the change is finished.

Users and licenses

  • Users: Users on the old subscription are automatically moved to the new subscription.
  • Services: If your old subscription includes multiple services, and if you changed which of these services your users are assigned to, make note of these changes before you change plans. Your notes can help you can recreate these changes afterwards. All users are given access to all services in the new subscription. For example, if you previously bought Microsoft 365 Business Premium for all 10 of your users, but you unassigned the SharePoint Online service from five of them, this change isn't kept after you change plans.
  • License assignments: If you have more than one subscription before you change plans, and users have licenses to more than one subscription, this assignment pattern is kept as much as possible in the new subscription.
  • Data: All user data is retained during the change, including Exchange mailboxes and SharePoint Online documents, lists, and other information.

The day your plan change is complete, the billing on your old subscription is turned off and the billing on your new subscription is turned on. Depending on the new plan you selected, you might receive a prorated credit. You receive a new invoice that includes the credit for your old subscription within 30 days of changing to the new subscription.

The length of time it takes to receive your prorated credit depends on the payment method used for the old subscription.

Change plans manually

Most of the time, you can change plans automatically. However, sometimes this isn't possible. You can change plans manually if:

  • You can't select the View upgrades recommended for your org link.
  • When you select the View upgrades recommended for your org link, the plan you want isn't listed.
  • You don't want to move all your users to the same plan. Some businesses need different users licensed for different plans.

If you're changing to a plan with fewer data-related services than your current plan, you must manually back up any data that you want to keep. For more information, see Back up data before changing Microsoft 365 for business plans .

Step 1: Buy a new subscription

Already bought a new subscription? If you already have the subscription that you want to move users to, skip this step and go to Step 2: Check your new subscription and licenses .

Need to buy a new subscription and licenses? Follow the steps in Buy a different subscription .

Make sure that you buy a subscription for the same organization that the users are in now. For example, check the email addresses for the users that you want to move. If their email addresses include @contoso.com , you must buy a new subscription for contoso.com. Buy a license for each user that you want to move.

Step 2: Check your new subscription and licenses

In the Microsoft 365 admin center , go to the Billing > Your products page, then do the following:

  • Verify that both the old and new subscriptions are listed and active. The subscription that you're moving users from and the subscription that you're moving users to must be listed together. If the new subscription isn't there when you first check, try again later. Verify that both subscriptions are listed as Active .
  • Check that you have enough licenses for each user. Each user needs a license that matches their subscription. If you want to move 10 users to Microsoft 365 Business Premium, make sure 10 unassigned licenses are available in that subscription.
  • Need more licenses for the new subscription? Go to the Your products page, select the subscription, and buy more licenses .

The new subscription isn't listed, or isn't active

If you bought two subscriptions and they aren't both listed on the Your products page, you might have bought them for different organizations (for different domains). Subscriptions can't cross organization boundaries.

If you know you have another subscription, and it isn't listed here, or isn't active, contact support .

What about old licenses?

The licenses for the current subscription are removed in Step 4: Cancel subscriptions or remove licenses that you no longer need (Optional) . After that, you only pay for the new licenses.

Step 3: Move users to the new subscription

After you confirm the number of licenses in your new subscription, you can move users from the old subscription to the new one .

Step 4: Cancel subscriptions or remove licenses that you no longer need (Optional)

If you moved all users from one subscription to another, and you don't need the original subscription anymore, just cancel the subscription .

If you have an MCA billing account type, you can only cancel and receive a prorated credit or refund if you cancel within seven days after the start or renewal of your subscription. If you cancel during this limited time window, the prorated amount is either credited towards your next invoice or returned to you in the next billing cycle. If you moved only some users to a different subscription, remove licenses that you no longer need .

If you upgraded to Microsoft 365 Business Premium, use the steps in the Business Premium library to set up your new security capabilities.

Three ways to create the right data culture in your business

Modern businesses run on data . From helping organizations to run more efficiently to creating new customer experiences and exploiting emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), your enterprise needs to put data at the heart of its operational processes.

In a digital age, where companies succeed or fail due to their ability to draw insight from information, your organization must have a culture that allows people to feel confident with data . Three business leaders explain how you can create that culture.

1. Make a plan for transformation

Sophie Gallay, global data and client IT director at French retailer Etam, said creating the right data culture involves three elements.

The first element is ensuring people in the business know how to use data in their day-to-day activities. "The most important part of my job isn't dealing with data foundations and use cases, it's supporting the business teams in understanding how they use this data in their processes," she said. 

Gallay told ZDNET that building comprehension of the importance of data requires a dedicated plan. "Culture is often the last point in the roadmap. Too often, it's the cherry on the cake. People say, 'If we have time and money, maybe we'll do some training.' But most of the time, you should start with culture," she said.

"When you say you want your organization to be data-driven, it's important not to focus too much on the 'data' part and focus more on the 'driven' part."

Gallay said the second element is having data champions within line-of-business teams. "You can't enforce cultural change from the IT team. Your organization needs representatives within the business teams and then your data culture needs to infuse almost organically," she said. "Therefore, it's important to choose the right champions. You then need to back these champions and ensure they have the right support in their business teams."

Gallay said the third element is senior-level sponsorship. Business and digital leaders can't force change -- they need encouragement from their bosses.

"The executive committee must support this data-led transformation and all the initiatives that go with it. If you have managers and directors who are not aligned, the transversal transformation won't happen," she said. "This senior-level backing is not purely about politics. It's super-important to have the executive committee with you and to make sure they enforce your transformation in a top-down way through their dedicated business strategy."

2. Develop minimum viable products

Richard Wazacz, CEO of foreign exchange specialist Travelex, said there's a lot of talk in the IT industry about how companies can make the most of data lakes. He takes a different approach and prefers to build puddles.

"Start small, prove what you can do, build up confidence and maturity in your organization, and take on bigger and bigger problems," he said. Wazacz told ZDNET that each data puddle should be associated with a specific business challenge. Once this solution is proven, you can move on to larger concerns.

"Get the confidence that your puddles are helping you," he said. "There's always a correlation and a way that one dataset can help you understand another. Then, in time, some of your ponds can be joined up to make small lakes and then you can create a bigger lake."

Wazacz said his approach is about developing minimum viable products (MVPs).

"Test, fail, learn," he said. "Your puddles are your MVPs -- create lots of puddles. Some puddles will dry up quickly because you were wrong. So, don't build a lake straightaway -- you will get it wrong and waste lots of money doing it." This incremental approach helps people across the business see the value of information.

Rather than putting a data champion in every business function, Wazacz advised other business leaders to foster a realistic approach where you "prove the value of data through action."

He said these proof points are important because the hardest part of building a data culture involves people, not technology.

"Identify a couple of colleagues in the business who have the competency and capability to play with puddles and make them valuable. Then you'll find more people and there is a bit of osmosis," he said. "People will say, 'That puddle made that guy successful. Maybe I'll try and build a small puddle.' It's an approach that takes time. If you try and waterboard everyone in data, and hope they'll all love data, it never works."

3. Use technology as an enabler

Nic Granger, director of corporate and CFO at North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), said more people now understand the potential power of data.

"People hear about AI and machine learning, it sounds interesting, and they want to talk about it," she said.

However, this new awareness doesn't mean a strong data culture is a given. Granger told ZDNET the finer details of data governance could be a turn-off for people excited about AI.

"If you talk about data management and records, it sounds like you're talking about paper in a filing cabinet," she said. "I think the important thing -- and we do this on our side -- is getting people across the organization to understand that you can't do the fancy things that you want to do with AI and machine learning until you've sorted your house out on the data side."

Granger told ZDNET her efforts to build a data culture are crucial to her digital strategy. Like other business leaders, she said systems and services are just one component of a data culture -- and the key to success is your people.

"We start with people skills and culture because the technology isn't going to be the solution to things -- it's an enabler to the solution," she said. "So, having the right digital skills, the culture, and the right people in the team is the first pillar."

Granger said she's worked hard to build the right data foundations, including creating an internal Digital Academy, which allows professionals to pick up digital skills and signposts the right places to learn. "If you want to learn Power BI, the Academy will point you towards the right courses," she said.

While professionals hone their digital skills, Granger and her team identify areas where technology can be used to transform data access. "Some of the stuff we've been talking about includes creating a data warehouse in-house so that our colleagues in data analytics can access the right information to put together benchmarks and do some deep analytical work."

One of Fond du Lac's proposed ARPA-funded projects won't move forward in time. Here's what will be funded instead.

City council approved an update to its arpa fund allocation during its final meeting before the swearing in of new council members..

FOND DU LAC — In its final meetings before swearing in the next generation of council members , Fond du Lac City Council approved an update to ARPA fund allocation.

Fond du Lac received $13,792,153 from the American Rescue Plan Act since 2021 to maintain public services and support recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funds need to be committed by the end of 2024 and spent by the end of 2026.

Of the funds, $800,000 was set aside in 2022 for the "Catalytic Downtown Historic Project" to assist with the revitalization of historic downtown property, but as of this year, that project won't move forward in time to meet the deadlines.

City Director of Administration Tricia Davi said at the March 27 meeting the project is still viable and needs to move forward, but it won't be at a position where the city can enter into any contracts or make any commitments in time.

City staff put together a list of replacement projects, broken down into two sections. Non-discretionary projects, which are time sensitive projects that have been bid and need additional funds because bids came in over budget, will get $307,000, and the remaining $493,000 will go to non-time sensitive discretionary projects that would meet the ARPA deadlines.

All projects also align with ARPA requirements of ensuring government services can maintain vital public services and support strong, resilient and equitable recovery, as well as the city's goal to use the funds for one-time projects to avoid operational funding cliffs in the future.

Non-discretionary projects include infrastructure, parks and the fairgrounds pool

On March 27, council approved the three non-discretionary projects.

Pavement repairs at Division and Brooke streets will get $180,000, and the improvements will follow the conclusion of the Division Street Bridge Project, marking the last phase of infrastructure improvements needed for the Brooke Street Lofts development.

The Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds pool will get $57,000 to replace the waterslides and railings. Bids came in higher than budgeted, and ARPA funds will allow the city to fulfill the project all at once, instead of repairing equipment piece by piece.

The last $70,000 will go to the McDermott Park landscaping plan, after bids for all components of the plans came in higher than the city allocated in its original ARPA plan, which includes an ice rink project.

Discretionary projects include the riverfront, a playground and the Boys & Girls Club

After discussing their options March 27, the city council revisited the discretionary projects April 10 and approved allocations for the remaining $493,000.

Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac will get $128,000 to contribute to youth care opportunities. Council requested this instead of using the money on fiber network expansion, which can still appear in a future capital improvement plan.

McKinley Park will get $100,000 to upgrade its playground, which was built in 2002. While the city has invested in park improvements within the Qualified Census Tract (QCT) in the western part of Fond du Lac, McKinley Park sits in the northeastern part of the city, a few blocks north of its QCT. New playground equipment would upgrade the park, benefiting the surrounding neighborhood.

The riverfront development plan will receive two allocations: $175,000 to purchase a currently for-sale property on the riverfront near Forest Avenue — one of the areas eyed for future public space development — and $90,000 to demolish the blighted building on the property and prepare it for development as part of the plan.

Fairgrounds plan in partnership with the county also gets an update

Budget discussions in November 2023 included using some of the city's remaining ARPA funds to partner with the county in enhancing the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds.

As of March 27, the $375,000 the city earmarked for the fairgrounds stage is now on the project plan.

According to Davi, the county has signed all agreements and contracts to move forward with the project, and work will be starting on the stage at any time.

Here's where else the ARPA funds were allocated since 2022

ARPA funds have so far been allocated to the inclusive playground at Plamore Park and other improvements at Franklin, Hamilton and McDermott parks, as well as a stormwater flooding study and other projects focused on infrastructure.

Funds were also allocated to security, including equipment and software upgrades, employee incentives and more for the police, fire and rescue departments.

Projects for 2024 include improvements to the Information Technology Services Department, a Food Hall Business Incubator and support for Fond du Lac historical preservation, split between the Fond du Lac Public Library's update of the local history book and the Fond du Lac County Historical Society.

Thousands of homes and businesses will benefit from the installation of new, smart automated reclosing devices that will help limit the frequency, duration and extent of service interruptions.

Automated recloser devices:

  • Work like a circuit breaker in a home that shuts off power when trouble occurs, with the added benefit of automatically reenergizing a substation or power line within seconds for certain types of outages to keep power safely flowing to customers.
  • Are safer and more efficient because they often allow utility personnel to automatically restore service to customers instead of sending a crew to investigate.
  • Isolate the outage to that area and limit the total number of affected customers if the device senses a more serious issue, like a fallen tree on electrical equipment.
  • Quickly pinpoint the location of the fault and help utility personnel better understand the cause of the outage to help speed restoration .

  • Can I migrate to the Ultimate plan if I am subscribed to the standalone broadband/Business Essential? Yes. You can migrate your existing standalone broadband to Ultimate plan with an equal or a higher monthly fee plan with no termination charge for the previous contract. Note: Migrating to the Ultimate plan is subject to AED 200 as a one-time activation fee. - You will be eligible for a Standard, Advanced or Pro router and a landline desk phone or cordless desk phone based on the new subscribed speed. - Downgrading to a lower monthly fee plan is not possible. You will need to deactivate the existing plan to activate the new one. - Any modification of the service will trigger a new commitment of 12 months. Please contact your du Account manager for more information about the upgrade/downgrade fees and rules.
  • Can I migrate to the new plans if I am already subscribed to Ultimate plan? To migrate to the new Ultimate plans, you need to cancel your existing Ultimate plan subscription and then subscribe to the new Ultimate plan. Please note that if your current Ultimate plan service is under contract, an early termination charge and a 30-day notice will apply. The early termination charge will apply as described in Q29. Note: When migrating from the current Ultimate plan to the new plan, the existing landline’s (Business line) number and service can’t be migrated to the hosted voice. However, you can keep the landline and pay a separate MRC for it.
  • Can I merge my existing Voice line or Microsoft 365 service with the Ultimate plan? Yes, you can merge your existing Business line/ Trunk line with the new Ultimate plan. The number of Trunk lines that can be merged depends on the number of Trunk lines offered with the subscribed speed.
  • What will happen if I upgrade/ downgrade my plan within the commitment period? In case of an upgrade/ downgrade of the same plan within the commitment period, the contract will reset, and the remaining commitment months will continue counting from the original date of activation. Note: While upgrading or downgrading, your add-ons will change as per the current speed. You can keep the existing handset that you received.
  • How do I check my business broadband speed that is being delivered to my router? Our technician will ensure that the correct speeds are activated at the time of installation and show you the results to ensure your satisfaction. However at any point in time, to check the internet speed, please connect the device to the router through an ethernet port and visit speed.duhosting.ae. Please note that the actual speed may vary depending on the device used for testing, distance from your router and congestion in your network etc.
  • How do I configure the router that I received with the Ultimate plan? The router offered with the Ultimate plan is plug and play and does not need to be configured.
  • How can I claim my router warranty? Your router has 12 months of warranty. To get the Wi-Fi router replaced within the warranty period, you can contact your Service/ Account manager or call on 800 188. You will be charged as per below in Q25.

  • How will the new Ultimate plan appear on the bill? All the Ultimate plans components will be charged in the same single item on the bill showing the speed you have subscribed to.   • Will my Ultimate plan contract auto-renew after completing the minimum term? No, once the minimum term is completed you can choose to renew the contract or, you can continue to use the service without a contract on a higher monthly recurring charge.
  • Will I get notified before my Ultimate plan contract expires? Yes, you will be notified before 30 days, 15 days, and 1 day before the contract expiry via Email and SMS.
  • Will I be notified after my contract expires? Yes, you will be notified after 1 day, 7 days, and 30 days after the contract expiry via Email and SMS.
  • Do I have to give a 30-day notice before cancelling my Ultimate plan? Yes, as per our terms and conditions, you need to give us a 30-day notice if you would like to cancel your Ultimate plan. We will accept and process your cancellation request. However, the actual cancellation will be scheduled for 30 days. During this period, you can continue to use your service as normal until the 30th day. If you would like to cease your services immediately, this can be done, however, you will still be charged for 30 days.
