IMPERIAL MBA Winning Sample Essay – 1

Imperial mba essay 1: statement of purpose.

I plan to move into a strategic role of product management in technology firms immediately post-MBA and eventually become Chief Product Officer in companies such as Amazon, Google after gaining the necessary experience and required skill sets over the years.

“Digital, Data, and Marketing” – My experience revolves around the intersection of these three words. After starting my Digital Analytics career with a Bangalore-based startup, I got an international opportunity to work with Mindshare, Dubai – #1 media agency globally. It exposed me to the chance of meeting people from across the globe and learning about different countries, their people, and cultures. I came across various thought processes that have influenced me in many ways. This role also gave me the chance to work directly with clients in the online marketing space and consult them on marketing technology and data analytics. I led projects for Fortune 500 clients such as HSBC,  Pizza Hut, etc. where I helped the clients on their digital transformation journey. I introduced many innovative solutions, such as a location intelligence tool that helped Pizza Hut aggregate online and offline customer journeys and optimized the target audience to achieve 30%YoY more online sales in the middle east. Eventually, I was promoted to Manager position from Analyst to become one of Mindshare’s youngest managers. This experience enabled me to gain a firm grounding in client management and improved my collaboration skills, simultaneously enhancing my confidence.

Leveraging my analytical and leadership skills, I decided to take up more significant eCommerce challenges and build more scalable solutions. Hence, I decided to join the eCommerce team of Alshaya (a multinational retail franchise operator). I set up the digital analytics team and implemented the eCommerce analytics measurement strategy for more than ten fast fashion brands (H&M, Mothercare, etc.), resulting in 50M website footfall annually.

My fascination with business and technology, understanding customer behaviour, and building innovative solutions to create value for the organizations motivates me to work in tech-oriented business roles. However, to achieve my goals, I need to hone the required core skill sets such as Brand Strategy, Market Research, Design Thinking, etc. to be a successful product manager. I think a holistic program such as an MBA will help me fill the gaps and provide a “CEO perspective” to make the strategic decisions.

With eCommerce accelerating and the product industry booming, I feel this is the right time to do an MBA. After extensive research and conversations with alumni, I believe Imperial is the best place to receive my MBA education. Academically, Core courses will help me in building a strong foundation, and electives such as Design management, Advanced Strategy will help me strengthen my arsenal towards product roles. By taking subjects like “Leadership”, “Managing Negotiations”, I look forward to refining my “soft skills” to deal with situations effectively that require interpersonal skills in future positions.

Imperial’s close community, London(booming tech industry), and the strong emphasis on innovation create a unique atmosphere. Being from a data analytics background, I will leverage Imperial’s famous business analytics research center’s learnings and apply them to industry challenges post my MBA. I also look forward to a collaborative learning opportunity with the Design Studio research center to gain more in-depth knowledge of Design Thinking frameworks.

During my conversation with current student Varun Bakshi (MBA’20), he highlighted the benefits of the “Entrepreneurial Journey” track and how it aligns with my post-MBA goal of product management. He also specifically mentioned the advantage of the “Imperial Entrepreneurs” society to network with London startups. I look forward to these opportunities and am excited to enrich the class’s learning with my digital marketing and analytics experience across different industries in my 5-year international stint. Learning from a diverse group of peers, I believe Imperial will provide a broad toolkit of skills with practical experience that will help me achieve my goals.

Imperial MBA Essay 2: List your target organization (s) and role? (200 characters) for first choice and second choice

GoCardless, Bumble, Snap Inc. – Product Manager, Senior Product Manager.

Working with engineers, designers, and other teams to build cutting-edge products that enhance the customer’s experience.

Imperial MBA Essay 3: What gaps in your skillset will you need to develop to prepare for this career? (800 characters)

My current Marketing analytics role restricts me from exploring all aspects of product management. I need to develop strategic management, design thinking, and Cross-disciplinary knowledge to be a successful product manager. I need to learn about different strategic frameworks to conduct industry analysis and empower me to define product vision. Design thinking will help me find innovative opportunities to enhance the customer experience. Cross-disciplinary knowledge will strengthen analytics skills to identify and solve business challenges from holistic understanding. I would also like to build on my entrepreneurial skills to improve my understanding of launching products to the market.

Collaborative leaders:

I was given charge of a website personalization project for all brands at Alshaya. It was a challenging task since we had 40 live websites and needed required efforts from multiple teams –  IT, Design, Marketing, Brand, Merchandising, and external Vendor. I prepared an extensive task list for each team and set up a daily progress update to keep the team’s motivation. I also designed an automatic data flow plan and worked with teams to build data pipelines that enabled us to live on any brand in just one day. Finally, we delivered the project successfully one week ahead of the deadlines. Within three months of rollout, Victoria’s Secret user engagement increased by 20% and generated $500k in additional revenue.

Problem-Solving and Entrepreneurial  skills:

When working with Mindshare in Dubai, I observed that the performance team was running the awareness campaigns for HSBC but could find the direct impact of these campaigns on online sales. After researching, I introduced a new methodology – Multi-touch attribution based on AI, which provided accurate results of these campaigns on topline numbers. Then I educated HSBC’s senior leadership team through several workshops, leading this solution’s quick adoption. Using the solution, we reduced the cost to acquire new customers by 30% and saved 300K USD in a year, and launched the solution to other clients in the market, which helped win other projects.

Analytics skills

I have almost seven years of experience in the Digital analytics space, working with many brands from Retail, Fast Food restaurant chain, and eCommerce industries. My analytical skills have grown over the years. There are many instances where I used these skills to improve the customer experience. For example, I introduced the A/B testing service in Mindshare’s analytics team’s portfolio. I used data-driven insights to identify the opportunities for enhancing the customer experience on platforms using Testing frameworks. We improved the conversion rate of Pizza Hut in the UAE market by 30% YoY and generated an additional $300k revenue in a year.

IMPERIAL MBA Winning Sample Essay – 2

Imperial MBA Essay 1: Statement of Purpose

It was in the early years of my life that I realized adversities are the greatest teachers; it’s a lesson that has taught me to be humble and ambitious in my pursuits. My father passed away while I was still young, and his untimely demise exposed me to life’s acute hardships very early in life. However, it was my mother’s fortitude that re-invigorated my diligence, determination, and aspirations.

I worked hard on my way up to be a part of an Engineering college. During my Under Graduation, I took part in several extra-curricular activities. I developed a keen fascination for football, and it helped me shape up who I am today as a team player and a leader. The early life hardships, academic excellence and extracurriculars, taught me how to optimize my resources, troubleshoot problems and lead a team, to overcome last-minute challenges.

I started my professional career at Industrial Automation & Control frim, Yokogawa India Limited in July 2014. As an Executive Engineer, I worked in multiple Oil and Gas projects in Abu Dhabi, the Netherlands, Russia and Saudi Arabia. These on-site experiences have given me a basic understanding of the oil industry and helped hone my technical skills. I have mentored multiple teams and currently, I am directly leading a team of seven engineers. These experiences and international exposure helped me enhance my skills to include client management, stakeholder interactions, provided me with opportunities to acquire leadership experience in the professional domain.

Now, after over five years of diversified technical experience, I believe an MBA can help me to supplement my technical skills with business knowledge and enhanced leadership skills to grow my career as an operations leader in a leading Oil and Gas company. After thorough research and interaction with students from Imperial, I believe that an MBA from Imperial perfectly complements my career aspirations. I know that a key challenge in my future career will be to oversee various departments to help them coordinate to work towards shared goals. For that reason, the Imperial’s elective on Project Management will be vital, and the elective on Energy Business will help me to widen my rudimentary business acumen in the Energy sector.

During the program, I would like to chair the Energy & Sustainability Club and help organize events and talks to give an insight into the experiences in the Energy domain. The Global Experience Week can help to gain a unique experience in different sectors and will help to engage with people from different business schools. Also, the Personal Leadership Journey will help rebuild my leadership and team-skills with industry best practices, and the one-to-one Career Coach will help fulfil my career objectives, and networking events will help me grow my network.

I sincerely believe that my strong professional experience complemented with an MBA from Imperial will help me to fulfil my career goals to be an operation manager in leading Oil and Gas firms. The UK is the second-largest Oil and Gas producer in Europe, and I am confident that after an Imperial MBA, I will be able to achieve my short term and long term career aspirations.

Imperial MBA Essay 2: List your target organization(s) and role (Please do not exceed 200 characters)

GE Oil and Gas – Operations Management

British Petroleum – Strategy and Finance

Schlumberger – Project Engineer

Baker Hughes – Project Manager-Strategic Role

Imperial MBA Essay 3: What key criteria does your target company use in their recruitment process? For each criterion, give examples that demonstrate how you meet it from your experience so far. Please do not exceed 750 characters.

Criterion 1

I believe that one of the main criteria that Oil and Gas companies look for in regards to operations roles is prior leadership experience in operations itself.

I have more than 5 years of experience in oil and gas operations and a good amount of leadership experience. I have led teams in Russia where I had to mentor a team of four engineers for the Engineering of Vendor package.

My most recent project, DUQM oil refinery, is allowing me to transform my leadership and professional management skills, where I am directly leading a team of 7 people. I am leading pre-factory acceptance tests operations on the shop floor.

In the last 5 years, I have had to wear a lot of hats and gained substantial hands-on operations and leadership experience.

Criterion 2

The next criteria that I think would be necessary for my future career are Interpersonal skills.

During my time in Saudi Arabia, I was overseeing a functionality test for a product. The test was behind schedule as one of the technicians kept on making errors. I pulled him aside to ask how I could support him and he confessed that he did not have any technical training. With two kids and no job, he had lied to get this job.

Understanding his situation, we assigned him to the job he is comfortable in, and during free time, we sent him with other technicians for training.

This experience really taught me the value of empathy and establishing interpersonal relationships to help my team grow, deliver on results and made me a better leader.

Criterion 3

The third and most important criteria in the Oil and Gas sector is the ability to work in an international environment.

So far in my career, I have worked and led teams in more than 5 countries. I have successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test in the Netherlands to ensure on-time delivery for clients. After that, when I was deputed to Kazan in Russia, I mentored four engineers and finished our task well ahead of time. I have also led teams in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain on client sites.

All these diversified experiences across different countries give me the confidence that I possess good operation leadership skills and international experience to  succeed in the Oil and Gas sector post my MBA as well.

Imperial MBA Essay 4: What gaps in your skillset will you need to develop to prepare for this career? (Please do not exceed 800 characters)

In the last 5 years, I have worked on multiple projects, with people from more than 15 countries. Each project has helped me to elevate my leadership skills and technical knowledge. Although, my on-site experience has given me immense technical knowledge. I feel that I lack the business knowledge and acumen that are required to propel myself into a managerial position where I would be dealing with financial budgets, project planning and resource hiring.

I am confident that the core courses at Imperial and Electives such as “Project Management ” and “Advanced Strategy ” can help me bridge the business knowledge gap and prepare me for my future roles. Sharing experiences in a diverse class can broaden my horizons outside of my industry and help me prepare better for challenges ahead.

Imperial MBA Essay 5: If you are not successful in your first choice career goal, which sector will you pursue alternative opportunities within? This may be the same sector as your first choice if you are considering alternative organizations and roles within the same sector.

If I am not successful in my first choice career in the Oil And Gas sector, I am open to exploring the Automotive sector, aviation and any other manufacturing heavy industry where I believe my skills are easily transferable.

Imperial MBA Essay 6: List your second choice organization (s) and role (Please do not exceed 200 characters)

GE Aviation Systems.

BAE Systems.

Jaguar Land Rover.

Rolls Royce PLC.

What’s the best online MBA program in the world? Depends on who you ask.

According to the latest ranking from QS, the British-based admissions events company, the answer is Imperial College Business School in London’s South Kensington. Imperial’s online program beat out second-place’s IE Business School in Madrid, Spain by 5 points on a 100-point scale.

But, if you’re looking at the most recent ranking of global online MBA programs from The Financial Times, you’d have to flip those results. IE Business School comes out on top with Imperial College in second.

Moral of the story: Take these, and all rankings, with a grain of salt.

TOP 10 ONLINE MBAS ACCORDING TO QS

QS released its annual ranking of online MBA programs last week. In the interest of giving school seekers all the information available, we present the results here. However, we’ve written in the past why QS results should be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Following IE, Warwick Business School in Coventry, England, came in at No. 3, followed by Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) at No. 4. Kelley Direct Online MBA  at Indiana University rounded out the top 5 and was the highest ranked program based in the U.S.

After Kelley, three other U.S. programs broke the top 10 of the QS ranking: Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business debuted on the QS ranking at No. 7. University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School tied for 8th while University of Southern California Marshall School of Business ranked 10th.

Overall, QS ranked 101 ranked programs across 21 countries, up from the 86 ranked in 2023. That includes 53 U.S. programs, 13 UK programs and 6 from Spain.

CMU Tepper was one of 18 new programs on 2024 list, and it earned the highest score of any school in Faculty and Teaching, earning 88.2 out of a possible 100 points..

THE ONLINE RANKING LANDSCAPE

There’s now several players attempting to rank a growing number of online MBA options, all of which are far from perfect.

U.S. News & World Report is arguably the most robust, ranking 345 U.S. programs in its most recent list. But its ranking is based on unaudited data provided by “regionally accredited” business schools along with its peer assessment survey of “high-ranking academic officials at MBA programs.” U.S. News does not survey students, graduates, or employers for the ranking. It also does not rank international programs.

P&Q’s online MBA ranking also sticks to U.S. schools, and we ranked 51 schools for 2024. Our methodology is based on three equally-weighted categories – admission standards, academic experience and career outcomes. Data is collected through institutional surveys and surveys of the most recent class of alumni. We require a minimum response rate of 10%, and schools that don’t meet that threshold do not get full credit for their alumni data. You can see how we calculate our online MBA ranking in our full methodology.

The other major ranking that looks at international programs comes from the Financial Times . But, that list is known as much as for the schools that are not ranked as for those that are. It ranked only 10 schools in 2024. FT reported that just 25 schools submitted data for this year’s ranking, but several failed to make the final list because of an “insufficient” response rate to the FT‘s alumni survey.

While the QS ranking includes 10 times more online programs as the FT’s, we don’t typically pay it as close as attention as we do other rankings. After consulting with MBA consultants and business school staffers who work on rankings, P&Q has called out QS’ Global ranking of full-time MBA programs as being one of the worst for its vague methodology, poor transparency, and concerns over conflict of interest . While the critiques weren’t lodged at QS’s online MBA ranking specifically, it’s enough to give one pause. (In response, QS co-founder Nunzio Quacquarelli defended their ranking .)

KELLEY DIRECT TOPS SEVERAL ONLINE MBA RANKINGS

The best way to use rankings is to view them as a collection – as a single data point in a spreadsheet of data points. And, if you view QS’ recent online MBA list through that perspective, the results at the top aren’t that different from the other major rankings.

Seven of QS’ top 10 programs showed up in FT’s 2024 list. Similarly, four U.S. programs that ranked highly in P&Q’s and U.S. News’ 2024 rankings cracked the top 10 at QS, as you can see in the table below. That kind of consistency should encourage school seekers.

As the highest ranked U.S. program at QS, the Kelley Direct Online MBA continues a truly impressive streak for the ranking season. It also topped P&Q’s latest ranking (for the second straight year) and the U.S. list for the third straight year. It also topped lists compiled by Fortune and The Princeton Review.

“Kelley Direct is a unique MBA experience, and that’s reflected in our rankings,” says Ash Soni, dean of the Kelley School of Business and The Sungkyunkwan Professor. “Our faculty and staff have worked very hard to create an innovative curriculum and engaging in-person events that set Kelley apart from other programs.”

QS ONLINE MBA RANKING METHODOLOGY

QS ranks online MBAs based on four metric groups, according to its methodology.

FACULTY AND TEACHING (35%): For this metric, QS incorporates data from both its proprietary Academic Survey which surveys schools on their perceptions of peer schools’ reputations as well as inputs provided by participating schools and/or public data. Specific metrics in this group include:

  • Academic reputation (15%) evaluates the reputation of an online MBA program based on nominations from its Academic Survey. QS notes, “The survey has grown to become the world’s largest survey of academic opinion, and, in terms of size and scope, is an unparalleled means of measuring sentiment in the academic community.” But it does not state how many surveys it sent out nor does it offer the response rate.
  • FTE/number of enrolled students ratio (10%): QS notes that a higher ratio means students can expect to receive more individual attention from program faculty.
  • Completion rate (10%)

EMPLOYABILITY (30%): Here, QS uses data from its proprietary Global Employer Survey, which aims to evaluate sentiments of hiring managers worldwide. QS has administered the survey for more than 20 years, so gives the greatest weight to the most recent responses.

But, the majority of online MBA candidates are part-time students and fully employed. Not all, or even most, are necessarily looking to change jobs at the end of their programs.

In contrast, Poets&Quants’ own online MBA ranking evaluates career outcomes based on metrics such as percentage of graduates who report earning a promotion or salary increase during or after the program and how alumni rate the school’s career services and advising.

CLASS PROFILE (30%): This metric group looks at the make-up of the cohort on average with data collected from participating schools and publicly available sources.

  • Number of students enrolled (10%), rewarding schools with higher numbers to reflect the school’s experience in providing a quality online MBA experience as well as the strength of the class network.
  • Applicant/place ratio (5%):
  • Work experience (5%), the higher the better
  • Proportion of female students (5%)
  • Number of nationalities represented (5%)

CLASS EXPERIENCE (5%): This group includes a range of evenly-weighted metrics including opportunity for physical meetups, regular synchronous classes, access to a learning app on a mobile and/or tablet, and 24/7 tech support.

Imperial College Essays Writing and Editing Support

The excerpt of my B-School journey and story, and the important role played by Expert’s Global:- When I was sitting on the couch of Expert’s Global office, more than a year ago, reading various successful stories mentored by Experts, I dreamed of sharing my own story someday and imagined how it would be for me. Now that I get the chance to share it, I am quite thrilled. The journey was long, tiresome and full of struggles, yet the learning was subliminal. Expert’s Global were the only people I approached after reading various reviews online. I took the complete package and started with the GMAT preparation, then came the applications, interviews and finally the decision of which school to go to and they guided me through each of these steps. During the GMAT preparation part, I received complete study material, plenty of practice questions and a proper schedule. There are also a good number of mock tests that really give the feel of CAT test such as GMAT so when THE DAY arrives you will feel like you know everything about it. I was preparing with full zeal but then I got promoted, which showed a lot on my preparation. My scores stopped increasing and I decided to take the test. My GMAT score was not exceptional (a lousy 680) so I knew I needed strong essays and a nicely built profile (time to thank the promotion) and Shailesh Sir proved to be a gem on this front-I remember emailing him at 2;30 in the morning on the day of my first application and received immediate response and support. Such efforts go far beyond and ultimately it shows on your results. Experts advised me to apply to 11 schools, which I did, however I could not complete 2 applications so I ended up applying to 9 schools. Out of these I received interview calls from 6 schools namely Foster, ND Mendoza, Mason, GWU, Katz and BYU. I got admits from 3 of these schools, 2 with good scholarships: Foster did not offer any scholarship. My final call was between GWU and BYU. GWU offered me $60K scholarship so tuition for me was less than BYU. Though BYU does not offer scholarships that easily (I have asked a few other admits) but again Shailesh Sir insisted that I ask for a scholarship, so I did. And I got a scholarship. It was great! That made my decision easier, I guess. BYU was a clear win (though in the start, I was so confused). In my opinion the best thing about Experts is that they prepare you to do, instead of doing it themselves-it kind of warms you up for the longer run 😉 In all, I think it was a tremendous experience and without the support I received, it would have been much difficult and far less fertile! I heartily thank the entire experts team for their guidance and support. Thumbs up!

What academics need to know about teaching

  • Entrepreneurship & Innovation
  • Strategy & Leadership

Illustration of mentor to help career growth

For most academics, teaching makes up a large part of their role, and by working as a team with their students they can create a positive learning experience that lasts, says Imperial College Business School lecturer Danielle Lyssimachou.

Think back to your fondest memories from school. Did you have a teacher who was special to you? What was it about them that stood out? It is often the educators who go above and beyond to serve, empower and enthuse their students who win over their audience and pass on a love for their subject. This requires building a sense of anticipation and excitement about what is coming next, adapting the learning process to fit the needs of their students, and treating them with respect and humanity.

As an academic in higher education, I wonder how many of us are aware of the role our connection with students plays in their learning success. We are experts in our fields, but our pedagogical training is usually patchy. We are expected to learn on the job . Yet, teaching constitutes 40 per cent or more of our role and has a significant impact on the thousands of students we meet in our career.

What we often fail to realise is that our duty as educators is to lean into our students

Most of the emphasis as a teacher is on covering the syllabus to help students master a set of learning outcomes. In the learning design process, the teacher must carefully consider how to break down and deliver the syllabus across a set number of lectures and how to cram in all these important concepts – and we rarely have enough time.

In this process, a pedagogically minded educator should consider that their audience will be made up of people with individual learning styles , requiring a variety of methods and activities. For example, some learn best by doing, whereas others prefer reflecting. Most of us tend to stop there.

What we don’t consider, or know much about, is the psychology of learning . Without a full appreciation of this, we are unlikely to reach our full potential as educators. We are led to believe our students should show up to class ready and prepared to learn, engage with our learning activities and make the most of the valuable time they spend with us.

We are experts in our fields, but our pedagogical training is usually patchy

What we often fail to realise is that our duty as educators is to lean into our students, to appreciate where they have reached in their learning journey and how best to support their practical learning needs. Then we need to design an educational experience , with this audience at the centre and us as facilitators, to provide memorable experiences that evoke a positive long-lasting relationship with the subject area.

Let’s consider the feelings evoked among learners in two very different learning settings.

The traditional learning environment

Traditional learning environments are often based on a strict teacher/learner divide and the educator may knowingly or unknowingly apply control and fear tactics to engage with them, with narrow end targets such as scoring well in an exam. These learning settings do not promote learning – quite the contrary; they obstruct it and risk damaging the learner’s aptitude.

Some learners may feel forced to comply in the short term, but they will not develop positive associations with the subject and will suppress or forget the information in the long run. It needs to be an enjoyable experience that carries deeper meaning. Other learners will flat out refuse to engage, as they do not feel safe in this type of environment. Ultimately, the educator fails in their educational mission in this type of setting.

Working together as a team

In this set up, learners should be at the centre with the educator acting as a learning facilitator, investing time and effort in building a strong bond. Their students gradually feel a strong sense of trust and connection with the learning facilitator and become receptive to learning. This can be achieved in multiple ways:

  • The educator can be explicit about their role as champion of their students’ learning success, show respect and appreciation for students’ contribution and engagement, displaying vulnerability and approachability on a human level.
  • They can reach out to their students, converse casually with them, understand what works and what doesn’t work in the learning process.
  • They can also remind students that each one of them is on their own learning journey, setting their own learning targets that transcend short-term assessments but translate into meaningful development.

Understanding all of this can feel like a breakthrough. I have learnt to appreciate the small casual interactions and wins during the learning journey far more than the destination. I know that most of the subject-specific details I teach may be forgotten in time, but what I hope stays with my students is a positive feeling about the subject area, and the role I hope to model of how a successful learning team should operate.

SAN FRANCISCO—May 21, 2024— Grammarly , the company empowering smarter work for over 30 million people, 70,000 teams, and 3,000 educational institutions, today announced a partnership with nonprofit Western Governors University (WGU), one of the country’s largest providers of online higher education. The partnership addresses the needs of the school’s population of working adult and remote students by providing all students and faculty access to Grammarly’s real-time writing support and Grammarly’s new Writing Score API.

The Writing Score API is Grammarly’s proprietary technology that provides a real-time quality check on any document to support students in submitting their most correct, clear, and engaging writing. The Writing Score API will be available to WGU students later this summer and to the broader education market later this year.

Grammarly has been committed to strengthening everyday writing skills through the productive and responsible use of AI since its founding in 2009. By providing its best-in-class AI writing assistance to all WGU students, Grammarly will help students improve their writing while becoming AI literate, preparing them to communicate effectively and efficiently in their future careers.

“Even in the generative AI–connected workforce, writing is as essential as ever, with knowledge workers spending 19 hours per week on written communication,” said Jenny Maxwell, Head of Grammarly for Education. “To ensure students are prepared to succeed in today’s workplace, they must learn effective writing and editing skills. Grammarly’s partnership with WGU will empower students to improve their writing skills, increase the likelihood of earning a degree, and ultimately maximize their career opportunities.”

With Grammarly’s Writing Score API integrated into WGU’s learning management system, students can upload any written assignment of more than 30 words and get a writing score on a scale of 1–100. This score indicates opportunities to improve spelling, grammar, and syntax, giving students valuable insight to determine whether to make additional revisions with Grammarly or submit as is. The score is based on elements including spelling and grammar correctness, clarity of sentences, variety of word choices, and the tone of the writing.

The feature uses Grammarly’s existing writing score technology—currently only available to customers using the Grammarly Editor—and makes it available in any application. When deployed at scale in higher education, the Writing Score API can serve as a measure of baseline quality for students’ writing, ultimately giving faculty more time to engage with students’ ideas on a deeper level.

“WGU is thrilled to partner with Grammarly and pilot the Writing Score API at scale,” said Debbie Fowler, WGU Senior Vice President, Academic Delivery. “WGU makes higher education

and professional career advancement attainable for everyone by identifying system-wide barriers and investing in solutions to eliminate them. We are excited to embed this in-the-moment feedback into how we teach while our instructors remain student-centric. By incorporating this AI technology, we can provide truly personalized learning and meet students where they are.”

The strategic partnership reinforces the importance of effective communication skills in higher education and beyond. With Grammarly’s AI-powered assistance, WGU students will be better equipped to deliver clear and polished communication in their academic and professional endeavors.
