How to write application letter and sample letters of application: There are different types of application letters. However, the formal format of writing application letters is almost the same. What differs is the content of application.

Types of application letters

They include;

• Job application letter : Normally written to request for a job. Must be accompanied by a CV.
• Attachment application letter : Written by students looking for attachment.
• Internship application letter : Written by individuals looking for internship.
• Inquiry application letter : Written to inquire about job openings.

How to write application letters: Formal format

Follow these steps;

•  At the top of the application letter should be your address  then followed by the address of company or receiver (Check for sample application letter here )
• There after the salutation . It should look like this (Dear Mr./Ms./Dr. LastName:)
• Reference (This is the title of the application letter) example Application for internship in the engineering department
• Opening paragraph : This paragraph should state the position you are applying to or for and how you knew of the position. It should also contain a basic introduction of who you are.
• Body paragraph : Explain why you are interested in the position you are applying for, demonstrate your understanding of the position, talk about your qualification and skills in brief as they will be contained in your CV.
• Conclusion Paragraph : State that you are ready to take the opportunity fairly. Thank the employer for her/his consideration in advance.
• Closing remarks or complimentary remarks: End your application letter as shown below

The application letter is the first thing an employer looks at and if you do not convey why you deserve the job properly then they won’t even look at your CV.

Here are a few things to help you when writing an Application Letter

1. Tailor it to your industry Whenever you write a cover letter it is important to remember to tailor it to the industry you want to work in. For example if the job is a Human Resource position then there is no point in you mentioning your sales experience. This is because the cover letter is supposed to show how you are qualified for the position which means you only need to put experience relevant to the position you are applying for. The rest can appear on your CV 2. Address the Hiring Manager Your application letter should be addressed to the hiring manager. If you can find out his/her name and use that in the salutation. This goes a long way in showing that you were truly interested in the position and took time to do some research especially if the name was not indicated in the job advert. •  Not be less than 18 years old.
•  Obtain a Police clearance certificate.
• Ones should have no criminal record.
• You should have no previous dangerous driving offense record.

2.Apply for a Provisional Driving license (PDL) A provisional driving license is issued to an applicant who wants to undergo training in driving. It is endorsed in respect of any class or classes of a motor vehicle which if he held a driving license he would be entitled to drive, in order that the applicant may learn to drive such class or classes of vehicle. This license is valid for three (3) months only but may be renewed for further periods of three months on payment of the prescribed fee of Ksh 650. The application for the PDL is done through Kenya’s Government Service Portal E-Citizen  Application  , where a fee of Ksh 650 is charged. The PDL becomes available after 24 hours. This is done through the following steps:

• Log in to the eCitizen website. You will be required to provide your email address or your National ID Number and password in order to access the online portal. If you are logging in for the first time, you will have to create or sign up for an account.
• Once you have logged in, select the National Transport and Safety Authority tab for the driving license application then click on the Provisional Driving Licence NC application.
• Driving School

• After reviewing the details and you are satisfied that the information you have given is accurate, then, click submit.
• A fee of Ksh 650 is charged for the process. Instructions of payment will be generated automatically and provided online. Modes of payment include Mobile money and debit transfers.
• After you have paid and submitted a successful application, you will able to print the NTSA Provincial Driving Licence slip.
• Obtaining a certificate of competence (C of C)
• Have  Knowledge of the rules of the road;
• Know recognized road signals and road signs;
• Grasp of any authorized road or Highway Code; and
• Physical fitness to drive a motor vehicle of the class for which the license is required.

Once an applicant has passed a driving test, he shall be issued with a certificate of competence (C of C) indicating the class or classes of motor vehicles he is permitted to drive. The C of C is valid for a period of three (3) months, and upon expiry, it will be at the discretion of the licensing officer to decide whether the applicant will undergo another driving test, or on the contrary, approve the application for payment of the driving license.

• A fee of Ksh 750 is charged for the process. Instructions of payment will be generated automatically and provided online. Modes of payment include Mobile money and debit transfers.
• After you have paid and submitted a successful application, you will be able to print the NTSA issued Interim Driving Licence which can be used as one waits for the Driving license.
• The driving license is issued after 14 working days. Instructions on collection issued licenses are sent via email and text.
• One is required to physically present themselves while collecting the driving license. Proof of identity is required when picking up the driving license.

How to convert a foreign driver license to kenyan driving license via ntsa and ecitizen systems.

• Visit the   NTSA Website   and scroll down to the left hand side of the screen and click on the   E-Citizen Link
• This will direct you to NTSA’s eCitizen portal which you will have to sign-in. If you do not have an E-Citizen account you will have to create one.
• Once you have logged in, select the National Transport and Safety Authority tab and then click on the make application tab.
• Click the (Plus sign) on the driving licence application then click on Conversion of Foreign License application.
• Fill in the required details which include: (a) Equivalent Vehicle classes as on your foreign License (b) Full names (c) Residential Address (d) Telephone Number (e) Email Address (f) Postal Address (g) Driving license country of Issue of foreign License
• After reviewing the details and you are satisfied that the information you have given is accurate, then, click submit.
• A fee of Ksh 750 is charged for the process. Instructions of payment will be generated automatically and provided online. Modes of payment include Mobile money and debit transfers.
• After you have paid and submitted a successful application, you will able to download and print your paid invoice from the payments menu
• You will receive a notification on when to visit the NTSA offices, at the Hillpark Building, Upperhill in Nairobi to collect your new driver’s license and complete the application process. You should present the following documents to the NTSA offices.

• Original foreign driving license and copy
• Foreigners certificate
• Work Permit/ Dependant pass
• two passport Photographs
• eCitizen Payment invoice

Job Purpose

• The job holder shall Drive the Authority’s vehicles; carry out checks on the vehicle’s cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems, tyre pressure and other related routine checks, identify and report malfunctioning of vehicle systems

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• Driving a motor vehicle as authorized;
• Carrying out checks on the vehicle’s cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems, tyre pressure and other related routine checks;
• Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;
• Maintaining work tickets for vehicles assigned;
• Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road;
• Ensuring safety of the passengers and/or goods therein; and
• Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.

Job Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

• Minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D (Plain) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for the class(es) of vehicle;
• Passed Suitability Trade Tests for Drivers;
• Attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
• Attended a Refresher Course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct;
• Proficiency in computer applications and
• Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution;
