Giving my all to my projects for my classes in Statistics and Econometrics has enabled me to become adept at managing large datasets and running simulations using R and STATA. Thanks to my Computer Science classes I am now efficient in modeling data structure and algorithms using Java and Python. Working on a research project with Professors Tania, Trapani, and Halvorsen helped me to master the statistical analysis of given data sets of interspike-intervals based on the mathematical models suggested. I learned new methods and how to run them such as Method of Moments, Newton-Raphson Reiteration, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. I have also cultivated perseverance and find great joy in my engagement with state-of-the-art research.

Since completing my undergraduate studies, for the past 3 years, I have been working as a PPC (pay per click) analyst. I run ads on Google for the company’s products and pay whenever users click ads. One of the most wonderful aspects of the PPC industry is almost everything is real time: cost, revenue, clicks and even customer data; millions of clicks are accompanied by millions of possible new customers and their data. Not only managing advertisements, I also deal with big data. I have honed my interpreting skills with real-world projects through SQL and Excel. One of my favorite projects was to analyze ad performance based on distance between the buyer’s shopping address and destination addresses where the purchased products would be in use. With the results, I built ad campaigns where different strategies where employed for different radii targets. In fact, the data that I am compiling has almost endless potential.

While utilizing data is a hot topic in the online marketing industry, I have been able to find only a few tools equipped with reliable technologies that can actually help marketers at deeper levels such as reading contextual signals upon which to base predictions. I look forward very much to contributing to developments in this area in the future. I am convinced that my destiny lies in data mining, machine learning and data visualization, and I hope to immerse myself in these subjects as a graduate student.

I have given countless hours to a variety of regressions models, classification methods and learning models including support vector machines. I have also made a constant effort to polish my visualization skills through Tableau, R, and Python. I have had ample opportunities to present my contributions to academic research, class projects, and workplace projects, and I increasingly appreciate how visualization is as important as the data itself since well-visualized data can be comprehended by almost any audience.

While data mining and machine learning have limitless potential in countless fields, the specific area in which I would like to make my mark, beginning with research in your doctoral program at UMass Amherst, would be to develop a tool that can diagnose diseases based on individuals’ online activities including search queries and posts on social media. Ultimately, I would like to design and develop a personalized medical assistant that tailors itself to the medical needs and resources of each individual, thus increasing and enhancing access to medical advice and treatment at a reasonable cost. With an observational study I conducted as a final project for my statistics class in college, I could see that coming from a low-income family, for example, has a more significant effect on students’ academic achievements than race or even disability. I further confirmed the notion that low-income families are more vulnerable to changes in health care systems through a project for my macroeconomics class dealing with US health care system. These prompted me to include helping the least fortunate members of society to improve their circumstances as part of my own professional goals. I aspire to build other personal tools later on as well, all of them oriented towards the noble goal of helping individuals and organizations.

Beginning my doctoral studies in Statistics will be the beginning of a new journey that will never end, and I wish I can start it at the Pioneer Valley. Statistics  is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. This includes the planning of data collection in terms of the design of surveys and experiments. A statistician is someone who is particularly well-versed in the ways of thinking necessary for the successful application of statistical analysis.

 Statisticians improve the quality of data by coming up with specific designs for experiments and surveys. Statistics itself also provides tools for prediction and forecasting the use of data and statistical models. Statistics is applicable to a wide variety of academic disciplines including both the physical and social sciences. Statistical consultants are available to provide help for organizations and companies without direct access to expertise relevant to their particular questions, issues, and challenges.

 Statistical methods can be used for summarizing or describing a collection of data. Descriptive statistics is an area that is particularly useful in research when communicating the results of experiments. Patterns in the data may be modeled in such a way as to account for randomness and uncertainty in the observations, and are then used for drawing inferences about the process or population being studied. The area of inferential statistics is particularly vital for scientific advance since it provides a means for drawing conclusions from data that are subject to random variation. Conclusions are tested in accordance with scientific method. Descriptive statistics and analysis of new data tend provide additional information with which to evaluate the truth of a proposition.

Born and raised in China, numbers have stood at the center of my world since my childhood because Mathematics was always what I did best and still do. Since early adulthood, I have increasingly gravitated towards Applied Mathematics as a focus, especially everything having to do with Statistics. I could not be happier fully engaged in the magic world of using numbers and symbols to solve real world problems.

After I graduated from high school, my family moved to Canada, and I was able to complete my undergraduate studies in Statistics, Actuarial Science, and Mathematics at the University of XXXX. Thus, I have had the opportunity to build a solid foundation in Statistics, including Advanced Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equation, Probability, Data Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Time Series, and Stochastic Methods, etc. I graduated from UT with honors and went on to work in the banking industry.

In my third year at UX, I completed an internship in the development of Marketing models at the Analytics Resourcing Center, and I dove in head into the fascinating world of Big Data. I conducted customer segmentation analysis with extremely large volumes and high dimension data, campaign analysis, and promotion design for retail chain stores using Machine Learning techniques. This experience opened up my horizons greatly with respect to advanced modeling techniques and also helped me understand how to abstract statistical models in accordance with business needs. After graduation, I worked as an Actuarial Analyst for the School Boards’ Co-operative Inc.

I mastered the Mixed Effect model while working on a one-year statistical collaboration project on reduction in neuron cell experiments during my last year at UX. I now appreciate how the Mixed Effect has enormous advantage over the General Linear Model. Furthermore, by applying a Gradient Decent approach, I was able to optimize the model for my purposes and I was delighted with the results and was left feely most inspired about possibilities for applications. I soon began to realize that I have a gift for statistical modeling in detail and nothing brings me greater joy. This is where my passion lies.

Currently, I work as a retail risk model developer in TD bank, using classical statistical models. Since this position requires documentation of how each statistical decision is made, I have a chance to investigate numerous details about each algorithm. The most exciting part of Statistics for me is the challenge of finding ways to harness the power of scientific data to accurately predict real-world phenomenon. I see Statistics as a science capable of overcoming all kinds of challenges in the quest to maximize the utility of information. I have experienced how advanced statistical techniques can resolve data challenges in industry.

I look forward to a long professional lifetime serving as a researcher in the statistical modeling industry, discovering and resolving statistical challenges. For my purposes, Statistics is a scientific tool which harnesses the power of numbers for solving real-world problems. My diverse work experience with multiple industries has enabled me to gain exposure to a broad variety of modeling methods including but not limited to the classical linear model, machine learning and stochastic process. I have wrestled with many different kinds of data challenges from hundreds of observations that do not fit any frequently used distribution to billions of observations in thousands of dimensions. I thrive on the challenge of finding scientific ways to making less intuitive data reflect and accurately predict real-world phenomena.

I have used multiple machine learning techniques in Python and R platforms; and observed the pros and cons of cases while comparing different modeling methods. I understand and appreciate how retail risk models are long-term, predictive power driven. Accuracy, explanatory power and conservatism are equally important. I fully understand how, within the range of linear models, scientific support for each decision is needed; coefficient analysis between triple or quadruple interactions must be conducted; and how the survival and loss model is often of great utility. Always inspired by and engaged with the latest research topics, reading myself to sleep almost every night, even under a full workload with constant pressure. I especially enjoy the quest to prove the usefulness of a methodology via statistical and mathematical methods.

Committed, enthusiastic, and dedicated to what I love, I was given to music in my early years, since I was trained to become a professional classical pianist and came close to that dream. Now, however, while I still play sometimes to destress, my music is entirely in my head, symbols, numbers, real-world dreams in big data. Most of what I play these days is Jazz, in which I am self-educated. This inspired me to begin a non-profit music media company when I was in my 2 nd year of college. I am also an accomplish programmer in R, Python and SAS. I also think of programming as part of the music that I want to make in the future.

The emergence of big data over the past decade as a power for good – and, dare I say it, evil – has convinced me of the importance of developing and honing my skills in this arena. I’m keen to ‘future-proof’ my career and I believe that your MSc Data Science degree is the programme to help me achieve my goals.

Although I don’t come from a traditional STEM background, having studied a Bachelors degree in Linguistics, the professional experience I’ve gained since graduating has given me a solid foundation in the principles associated with data analytics. I’ve worked for two years as an SEO and PPC Executive for a major e-commerce agency, helping to provide insight into website traffic trends and advert effectiveness, and suggesting ways to boost online performance. I’ve used tools like Semrush and Moz, as well as Google Analytics and Search Console, and crave the opportunity to delve even deeper into the world of data outside of an e-commerce agency.

The potential applications of machine learning and natural language processing are particularly fascinating to me. I’ve watched with interest the arrival of deep learning software that purports to generate unique content based on user prompts. Although the end-product of these programmes is sometimes crude, I think they’re incredibly promising.

The coronavirus pandemic has also shown the value of big data in a healthcare setting, with large-scale modelling a vital source of information and guidance for policy-makers across the globe. The pandemic has also illustrated the importance of presenting this data in a clear and responsible manner and I’ve been impressed by the development of the UK’s own coronavirus statistics dashboard, which I think should be seen as a benchmark standard.

I think that your conversion course is perfectly tailored for my skillset, as someone with an amateur, self-taught background in coding (including the basics of Python). I’m looking for a rigorous degree that will challenge me and ultimately equip me with the knowledge to make a meaningful contribution in the private or public sector in the coming years. I hope to apply my new-found expertise in a company with a start-up culture, perhaps in the fin-tech sector where algorithmic know-how is in high demand.

Statement of academic purpose

While all programmes require you to submit a statement of academic purpose, a few programmes require you to follow a specific format when writing your statement. these specific requirements are detailed below., statement of academic purpose – all programmes, excluding those listed below.

You must upload a statement that explains your academic interest in, understanding of and academic preparedness for the programme(s) you are applying for. You should also explain the academic rationale for applying to the programme(s) you have chosen. If applying for two programmes, you are strongly encouraged to write a separate statement for each programme. The statement of academic purpose is an important part of your application, and selectors are looking for evidence of your academic suitability and motivation, and of what you can contribute academically to the programme. We expect statement(s) to be between 1,000 - 1,500 words. 

Please address the following questions/prompts in your statement(s) 

Academic Motivations  

  • What prompted your interest in this particular field of study? Perhaps you have unanswered questions from your undergraduate studies or professional work, or you would like to further explore issues and ideas raised in your curricular or extra-curricular reading? 
  • Why would you like to study your chosen programme? Perhaps it offers a particular approach, or there are specific modules that will help you develop necessary skills or knowledge. Perhaps the research interests of the academics teaching on your programme, and/or the wider research culture of the department align with your own interests and academic/professional aspirations? 

Suitability 

  • What makes you suitable for this LSE programme? Perhaps you have taken relevant undergraduate modules, or have relevant professional, voluntary, or other experience that has prepared for postgraduate study in this area? 

Purpose and Objectives  

  • What do you hope to get out of this particular LSE programme? How would this particular programme help you to achieve your personal, academic, and professional goals? Take the time to explain your academic or professional  aspirations and goals, and how your chosen programme will impart the necessary skills and knowledge. Please avoid general statements about LSE’s performance in global rankings, and  generic statements about London being a global/cosmopolitan centre of excellence. 

If there are circumstances that have disrupted your education/significantly interfered with your learning (for example, health problems, displacement, long-term caring responsibilities), please feel free to let us know about them in a separate document added to your application (you can upload this document via the ‘Additional Item’ upload option). If appropriate, please also consult the advice we give to applicants from a forced migration background here , and from a care-experienced background here . 

Please ensure that your statement(s): 

Are all your own work. If we discover this is not the case, your application may be cancelled

Are well-written, well-structured and specific to the programme(s) applied for

Are proofread before being uploaded, and the final correct versions are uploaded

Only include that which is relevant to your programme choice(s). Additional information regarding unrelated extra-curricular activities, personal achievements or work experience should be included in your CV

Have your name and the title of your chosen programme in the header or footer of every page 

MSc Health Data Science

In addition to following the general guidance, please be sure to clearly outline your background in mathematics, statistics or other quantitative subjects. If your background is outside of mathematics or statistics then you should provide further explanation of how your experience is relevant to the programme applied for, as well as further details of your current studies. 

MSc Media and Communications (Data and Society)

If you are applying for this programme, please note the following specific requirements for your statement of academic purpose.

Write a short statement (up to 600 words) about why you want to do the programme. This might cover, for example, what suits you to the programme: your experiences and skills in relation to the analysis of data and society; what attracts you to this particular programme and where you see yourself in ten years after the programme.

In addition, please write a response (up to 400 words*) to  one  of the following questions. You might do so by relying on relevant authors and concepts from previous courses or independent study, as well as on professional experiences.

  • What is the most pressing social, political or ethical issue related to data and society? Why should we study it?
  • How useful is the concept of "big data"? What are its limitations?
  • What consequences do data-based systems have for individuals? How should we address these?
  • If you could invent a data-based product or service that would change the world, what would it look like? What would be its best feature and what would be its biggest risk?

*The total length of your statement of academic purpose, including the answers to the above questions, should therefore be between 800-1,000 words.

MSc Media, Communication and Development

Write a short statement (up to 800 words) about why you want to do the programme. This might cover, for example, what suits you to the programme: your experiences and skills in relation to social justice, development or communication; what attracts you to this particular programme and where you see yourself in ten years after the programme.

Also answer the following questions (your answers should be approximately 250 words each)*:  

  • What should a developed society be like according to you?
  • How will studying theory help you to understand development and communication practice?
  • Why do you think we need to be critical of aspects of contemporary communication and development?

  *The total length of your statement of academic purpose, including the answers to the above questions, should therefore be between 1,000-1,500 words.

MSc Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Write a short statement (up to 600 words) about why you want to do the programme. This might cover, for example, what you will bring to the cohort, and what your particular strengths are.

Also, you should answer the following questions (your answers should be approximately 500 words each):

  • Tell us about an experience you had with social innovation /entrepreneurship/ a project with high social impact. What role did you play and what did you learn about yourself?  
  • How will your past experience, combined with this LSE masters, help you to achieve your goals?

The  total length   of your statement  – including the answers to the above questions - should therefore be  between 1,100 & 1,600 words .

Your statement should be concise and should not exceed 500 words .

Executive MSc in Health Economics, Outcomes and Management in Clinical Sciences

Your statement should be typed and no longer than three sides of A4 paper and should address the following questions:

  • What are your career goals over the near (2-3 years) and medium term (5-7 years)?
  • In concrete terms, how will your career benefit from completing this programme?

In addition, you may wish to discuss the following:

  • Motivation for undertaking the programme
  • Academic interests, strengths and background relevant to the programme
  • Areas of specific interest within the programme
  • Academic ambitions and/or research interests related to the programme
  • Any professional aspirations, and how academic work within the programme might help you realise such aspirations
  • Other relevant information, such as additional reading or research, work or other relevant experience that has informed your decision to apply for the particular programme

Please ensure that your statement:

Executive Global MSc in Management

Your personal statement should be a maximum of 2 pages long, and highlight why you want to do the programme.  Make sure you address the following points:

  • details on your suitability for the programme
  • your motivations for choosing this programme in particular and what you hope to get out of it
  • any career highlights to date, in particular any leadership or international experience
  • future career objectives and how you think the programme will help you achieve them
  • what you think you can bring to the classroom learning environment that makes you stand out from other applicants

Executive MSc in Social Business and Entrepreneurship

The Academic Statement of Purpose consists of two parts.  The total combined word count for both parts should not exceed 1,200 words.

  • A personal statement: Your personal statement should persuasively explain why you want to do this programme. This may include your personal suitability such as career achievements and ambitions, what you hope to get out of the programme, your particular strengths, and what you will bring to the cohort.  600-700 words.
  • For the second part, please submit your thoughts on the following statement.  400-500 words. “The business of business is social improvement. Describe briefly the role of markets in social progress.”

Atlantic Fellows Residential programme with MSc Inequalities and Social Science

Your statement(s) should be typed and no longer than two sides of A4 paper. There is no fixed word limit, but we expect statement(s) to be no longer than 1,000 - 1,500 words. 

In your statement(s), you should address the following:  

  • Why are you interested in joining the AFSEE programme and what do you hope to gain by being part of it? In your answer, please:  

 o   Describe what area of socioeconomic inequality you engage in and the type of work you have done.  

o   Please give examples of how you have meaningfully contributed to collective endeavours to address inequalities.  

o   Explain why you would like to learn more about social and economic equity and how this will contribute to your social change work.  

o   Explain, in one to two paragraphs, the MSc dissertation you plan to undertake as part of the requirements of the MSc in Inequalities and Social Science. 

  • Within 5 years of completing the AFSEE programme, what do you hope to achieve in your work/field? How do you see participation in the AFSEE programme contributing to you achieving those goals? 
  • What academic knowledge would you like to gain via the MSc in Inequalities & Social Science and how do you plan to apply this knowledge to your future work on social change?
  • Please indicate any research interests.

You’ll already have written a personal statement for your undergraduate application, so the concept should be familiar. However, there are some things you should be aware of when it comes to writing specifically for postgraduate study. 

In this guide, we’ll explain how to write a stand-out Masters personal statement and provide you with some valuable insights from our Masters Recruitment Manager Danielle, here at Warwick Business School (WBS).

What is a Masters personal statement?

An MSc personal statement, also known as a ‘statement of purpose’, supports your application to study a postgraduate course at university. It should highlight your key skills and experience whilst demonstrating your understanding of the course and conveying your academic skills and interests.

How long should a Masters personal statement be?

A personal statement for postgraduate study should fit within two pages of A4. Whilst you won’t be penalised if it is slightly longer, you should always make sure the content is relevant and doesn’t repeat information elsewhere in your application.

Your personal statement is your chance to relate yourself to our core values and demonstrate what a strong candidate you will be for one of our programmes. Ensure you also use this as an opportunity to link our programme to your future career.

Course titles should not be taken at face value. Whilst some universities will have courses with the same titles, the content will differ. You need to demonstrate you understand what the course entails and why you want to apply for a particular course as. Danielle adds:

Take time to look at the content of the course you are applying for; although course titles may be the same at different universities the course content can be different. Do your research and demonstrate this in your personal statement, showing how invested you are in studying at WBS.

Consider what you want from your studies

The range of choice when it comes to postgraduate study is vast, and it can feel overwhelming when deciding which course is right for you. 

Whilst opinions from your friends and family are important, they shouldn’t be the ultimate deciding factor when choosing a course. Ultimately you need to consider what you really want and whether it aligns with your career goals. 

Begin to prepare your application

Once you have decided which course you would like to apply for and you’ve ensured you meet the entry requirements, you will need to begin preparing your application. This includes collecting the correct documentation such as a CV, transcript, personal statement, and reference.

What should you include in a Masters personal statement?

Recruitment and admissions teams receive thousands of applications each year so it is important that your personal statement is to the point and demonstrates what they are looking for in their students. 

Danielle gives some insight into what our recruitment team looks for in a personal statement for a Masters degree:

Aim to keep your personal statement to the point by making sure you answer the following questions, addressing the key points our Selection Committee will be looking for:

  • Why have you selected this course? What are your motivating factors?
  • How do you see this course benefitting your career plans?
  • What will you contribute to your cohort?

As well as addressing these key questions, you should also include the following:

Academic achievements 

You need to demonstrate how your undergraduate study has prepared you for a postgraduate course. You can do this by highlighting specific achievements, projects and pieces of work as well as mentioning any particular topics that interest you. 

Professional achievements

If you completed any professional work experience alongside your studies, it is a good idea to mention them here. Highlight any duties, tasks and responsibilities you had to demonstrate what you gained from this work experience. 

Relevant extracurricular activities

Including information about relevant extracurricular activities you are involved in can help to give a more rounded view of you as a person. This could include volunteering opportunities and any meaningful hobbies you have. 

Transferable skills

Your transferable skills should be highlighted throughout your personal statement. The types of things you could include are presentation skills, communication skills, analytical thinking and time management. Consider what you can bring to lectures and workshops. For example, if your course involves a lot of group work, use an example where you demonstrate your experience with this.

What should you avoid when writing a Masters personal statement?

Repetition of information.

When submitting both a CV and personal statement it can be easy to fall into the trap of just repeating the same information across both documents. Your personal statement is an opportunity for you to reflect and expand on what you have stated on your CV, rather than repeating the same information.

Not providing enough context

Simply listing your achievements without providing context will not prove to the recruitment teams that you are the right candidate for the course. Provide hard evidence to back up the statements you make and try to give two or three in-depth examples, rather than several weak answers. 

Not tailoring your application to the specific university or course

Recruitment and admissions teams are keen to hear why you have chosen a specific course and why you want to attend their university. You need to provide clear examples of what excites you about their institution and how you can align with their particular values.  

What do recruitment teams look for in a Masters personal statement?

University recruitment teams and selection committees review thousands of applications each year. To ensure your application stands out, you must show that you have taken the time to prepare and research your chosen university.

Recruitment teams want to see your passion for the subject and motivations for joining their institution. Detailing your experience and the skills you can bring will help to emphasise this. Danielle also suggests not overlooking the obvious when it comes to writing a personal statement:

It may sound simple but the first answer to this question is that the Selection Committee wants to see a well written, clearly structured personal statement which demonstrates good preparation and research.

What else do I need to include with my Masters application?

The documents you need to include in your application may vary by institution and course. But generally, as well as your personal statement, you will also need to include: 

  • Academic and professional references
  • Copies of your undergraduate degree certificate and academic transcripts
  • A list of final year modules if you're still studying for an undergraduate degree
  • A research proposal (not all courses will require this)

If you are an international student, there are some additional things you will need to provide including: 

  • A copy of your passport
  • Proof of your language proficiency through either a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) certificate, or any others that meet requirements outlined on our course pages.

When are the deadlines for Masters applications?

Deadlines for Masters programmes vary quite widely between courses and universities. Information on specific deadlines can be found on their respective course pages and postgraduate brochures . You should aim to make an application early in the cycle to ensure there are still places available on the course.

Deadlines for scholarships and external scholarships can also vary, so if you wish to apply for these, you will also have to factor in these deadlines.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an interview for masters programmes.

At WBS, there are no interviews for MSc courses. Instead, all decisions are made based on the application you submit. Your undergraduate transcript will be reviewed in depth along with your CV and personal statement.

How many Masters can you apply for?

If you are applying to a UK university, you can apply for as many courses and universities as you like. However, you should not over-stretch yourself and you should only apply for courses that you are really passionate about.

Writing an appropriately tailored application can be time-consuming and attempting to write too many could jeopardise your chances of being successful. 

Do you have to pay for your Masters application?

We require an application fee of £75 to cover administrative costs. If you're applying to multiple Warwick courses, remember each course will warrant its own application fee.

About the course

The MSc in Statistical Science is a twelve-month full-time taught master’s degree running from October to September each academic year. The MSc has a particular focus on modern computationally-intensive theory and methods.

The MSc in Statistical Science will aim to train you to solve real-world statistical problems. When completing the course, you should be able to choose an appropriate statistical method to solve a given problem of data analysis, implement the analysis on a computer and communicate your results clearly and succinctly.

The MSc offers a broad high-level training in applied and computational statistics, statistical machine learning, and the fundamental principles of statistical inference. Training is delivered through mathematically demanding lectures and problems classes, hands-on practical sessions in the computer laboratory, report writing and dissertation supervision. You will have around three months to work on your dissertation with guidance from your supervisor, offering you a substantial opportunity for self-directed study and research. 

Students take a mixture of core courses and optional courses. The core courses are compulsory and involve practical components that students must complete.

Pattern of learning and teaching

You will attend nine units worth of courses (with one unit corresponding to a 16-hour lecture course or equivalent) in addition to writing a dissertation. Depending on how the courses you take split between terms, you can expect to attend four or five (or, in exceptional cases, three or six) courses per term. Most courses have two one hour lectures per week supplemented by four classes (or the equivalent) per term, though for some courses there are associated practical sessions instead of, or in addition to, lectures or classes. The remainder of your study time in Michaelmas, Hilary and most of Trinity Term should be spent on self-study, consolidating on the material covered in lectures, working through the assignments set for each class and working on practical assignments. Students are expected to write reports on practical assignments during part of the Christmas and Easter vacations, as well as revising the material covered the previous term.

Dissertation

The MSc offers a substantial opportunity for independent study and research in the form of a dissertation. The main period for dissertation work is June to September (though you may do some preparatory work for your dissertation earlier in the year) and during this time students should expect to work hours that are equivalent to full-time working hours, although extra hours may occasionally be needed.

The dissertation is undertaken under the guidance of a supervisor and will typically involve investigating and writing in a particular area of statistical science, without the requirement (while not excluding the possibility) of obtaining original results. A dissertation gives students the opportunity to develop broader transferable skills in the processes of organising, communicating, and presenting their work, and will equip students well for further research or for a wide variety of other careers.

Supervision

The allocation of graduate supervision for this course is the responsibility of the Department of Statistics and it is not always possible to accommodate the preferences of incoming graduate students to work with a particular member of staff. Under exceptional circumstances, a supervisor may be found outside the Department of Statistics.

You will be assessed on your performance in a number of written examinations in May/June, through practical coursework set during the year, and by the quality and depth of your dissertation (done mostly over the period June to early September).

Graduate destinations

Graduates of the MSc find employment in financial, economic, governmental, scientific and industrial areas. The MSc can also be a useful stepping stone for doctoral studies, with around a third of students on the course taking this route.

Changes to this course and your supervision

The University will seek to deliver this course in accordance with the description set out in this course page. However, there may be situations in which it is desirable or necessary for the University to make changes in course provision, either before or after registration. The safety of students, staff and visitors is paramount and major changes to delivery or services may have to be made in circumstances of a pandemic, epidemic or local health emergency. In addition, in certain circumstances, for example due to visa difficulties or because the health needs of students cannot be met, it may be necessary to make adjustments to course requirements for international study.

Where possible your academic supervisor will not change for the duration of your course. However, it may be necessary to assign a new academic supervisor during the course of study or before registration for reasons which might include illness, sabbatical leave, parental leave or change in employment.

As a minimum, applicants should hold or be predicted to achieve the following UK qualifications or their equivalent:

  • a first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree with honours in a degree course with advanced mathematical and statistical content.

However, entrance to the course is very competitive and most successful applicants have a first-class degree or the equivalent.

For applicants with a degree from the USA, the minimum GPA sought is 3.6 out of 4.0.

Performance at interview

Interviews are not normally held as part of the admissions process.

When held, interviews may be in person or online, normally with two interviewers. Interviews are used only when the department needs to gather more information to fully assess an application before deciding whether to make an offer of a place.

Your application will be assessed purely on your proven and potential academic excellence and other entry requirements described under that heading.

All recommendations to admit a student involve the judgement of at least two members of the academic staff with relevant experience and expertise, and must also be approved by the Director of Graduate Studies or Admissions Committee (or equivalent within the department).

Admissions panels or committees will always include at least one member of academic staff who has undertaken appropriate training.

The department occupies a building in the centre of Oxford.

The principal computing resource for the MSc in Statistical Science is the IT teaching suite. You will be able to use this to run software packages such as R, MATLAB and Python, as well as to prepare documents and reports. The IT suite provides students with an excellent environment for training in computational statistics and statistical programming, as well as being a quiet place to work outside lectures. The building has other spaces for study and collaborative learning, including a library and a large interaction and social area.

You will also have access to a number of University libraries, and the centrally provided electronic resources.

The University's Department of Statistics is a world leader in research in probability, bioinformatics, mathematical genetics and statistical methodology, including computational statistics, machine learning and data science. 

You will be actively involved in a vibrant academic community by means of seminars, lectures, journal clubs, and social events. Research students are offered training in modern probability, stochastic processes, statistical methodology, computational methods and transferable skills, in addition to specialised topics relevant to specific application areas.

Much of the research in the Department of Statistics is either explicitly interdisciplinary or draws motivation from application areas, ranging from genetics, immunoinformatics, bioinformatics and cheminformatics, to finance and the social sciences.

The department is located on St Giles, in a building providing excellent teaching facilities and creating a highly visible centre for statistics in Oxford. Oxford’s Mathematical Sciences submission came first in the UK on all criteria in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Additional information

There are no compulsory elements of this course that entail additional costs beyond fees and living costs. However, as part of your course requirements, you may need to choose a dissertation, a project or a thesis topic. Please note that, depending on your choice of topic and the research required to complete it, you may incur additional expenses, such as travel expenses, research expenses, and field trips. You will need to meet these additional costs, although you may be able to apply for small grants from your department and/or college to help you cover some of these expenses.

In addition to your course fees, you will need to ensure that you have adequate funds to support your living costs for the duration of your course.

For the 2024-25 academic year, the range of likely living costs for full-time study is between c. £1,345 and £1,955 for each month spent in Oxford. Full information, including a breakdown of likely living costs in Oxford for items such as food, accommodation and study costs, is available on our living costs page. The current economic climate and high national rate of inflation make it very hard to estimate potential changes to the cost of living over the next few years. When planning your finances for any future years of study in Oxford beyond 2024-25, it is suggested that you allow for potential increases in living expenses of around 5% each year – although this rate may vary depending on the national economic situation. Referees: Three overall, at least two of which must be academic

Whilst you must register three referees, the department may start the assessment of your application if two of the three references are submitted by the course deadline and your application is otherwise complete. At least two academic references are  required. A professional reference is acceptable as a third reference in the exceptional case that the referee is able to offer comparable information on your background and suitability for the course to an academic referee.

Your references will support your intellectual ability, academic achievement, academic potential, and motivation, particularly with regard to the mathematical sciences. 

Official transcript(s)

Your transcripts should give detailed information of the individual grades received in your university-level qualifications to date. You should only upload official documents issued by your institution and any transcript not in English should be accompanied by a certified translation.

Personal statement: A maximum of 1,000 words

Your statement should be written in English and explain your motivation for applying for the course at Oxford, and your relevant experience and education. You should explain why you are interested in studying for the course. The statement should summarise your background as it relates to applying for the MSc and the advanced mathematical and statistical content you have covered (or are in the process of covering, if you are currently completing a degree).

If possible, please ensure that the word count is clearly displayed on the document.

This will be assessed for your reasons and motivation for applying, evidence of motivation for and understanding of the broad area covered by the MSc, capacity for sustained and intense work, reasoning ability, the ability to absorb ideas at a rapid pace.

A minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Knowledge of mathematical methods and linear algebra at university level and familiarity with introductory probability and statistics is required. Relevant professional experience will also be taken into consideration.

The English language level for this programme is: Level 1

UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are for international students who are aiming to study for a postgraduate degree at UCL. The courses will develop your academic English and academic skills required to succeed at postgraduate level.

About this degree

The programme takes a broad-based approach to statistics, providing up-to-date training in the major applications and an excellent balance between theory and application. It covers modern ideas in statistics including applied Bayesian methods, generalised linear modelling and object-oriented statistical computing, together with a grounding in traditional statistical theory and methods.

The programme is also flexible. By selecting an appropriate combination of optional modules and a suitable project, students can choose to specialise in the following areas: biostatistics, applied stochastic modelling, quantitative decision making, quantitative analysis for industry, financial mathematics. The first of these has been formalised as a separate award.

Who this course is for

The programme is accessible to students with undergraduate degrees in a related quantitative discipline (such as mathematics, statistics, economics, actuarial science), who wish to gain advanced training in statistical theory and applications to enable them to enter specialist employment or academic research.

What this course will give you

One of the strengths of UCL Statistical Science is the breadth of expertise on offer; the research interests of staff span the full range from foundations to applications, and make important original contributions to the development of statistical science.

London provides an excellent environment in which to study statistical science, being the home of the Royal Statistical Society as well as a base for a large community of statisticians, both academic and non-academic.

UCL's newly founded Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences aims to be London's leading centre for research, teaching and collaboration in mathematics and statistics, establishing UCL as a global leader and outward-looking centre for the mathematical sciences and its applications.

The foundation of your career

The Statistics MSc provides skills that are currently highly sought after. Graduates receive advanced training in methods and computational tools for data analysis that companies and research organisations value. For instance, the new directives and laws for risk assessments in the banking and insurance industries, as well as the healthcare sector, require statistical experts trained at graduate level. The large amount of data processing in various industries (known as "data deluge") also necessitates cutting-edge knowledge in statistics. As a result, our recent graduates have been offered positions as research analysts or consultants, and job opportunities in these areas are increasing.

Employability

Graduates typically enter professional employment across a broad range of industry sectors or pursue further academic study.

Areas of employment include Accountancy and Financial Services, Banking and Investment, and Consultancy with graduates securing positions with a range of employers including Vanguard and WillisTowersWatson.

The Department offers world-class expertise along with strong links to practitioners, and its position within UCL provides breadth of knowledge (for example the UCL institute for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, the UCL Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning and the Alan Turing Institute). Staff members also collaborate directly with hospitals, power companies, government regulators, and the financial sector. Consequently, postgraduate students have opportunities to engage with external institutions.

There is a possibility of external organisations delivering technical lectures and seminars while the MSc research project list usually includes collaborative projects available with pharmaceutical companies and other industrial partners.

Accreditation

This MSc programme was accredited by the Royal Statistical Society up until 2023/24. The department is in the process of applying to the Royal Statistical Society to renew accreditation.

Teaching and learning

The primary method of communicating information and stimulating interest is through lectures, which provide you with a formal knowledge base from which your understanding can be developed. Understanding of lecture material is reinforced by problem classes, computer workshops and group tutorials, as well as by self-study. Peer-assisted learning, discussion with other students and individual discussion with staff also support the learning process.

Whereas lectures provide the primary vehicle for accumulating a knowledge base, your intellectual, academic and research skills will mainly be developed outside of the lecture theatre, for example, by tackling and discussing problems set on a regular (usually weekly) basis. Some coursework requires you to develop your thinking beyond rote learning, and to link ideas between different modules. You will be encouraged to reason openly through discussion of set problems in tutorials. For some modules, workshops allow you to work on problems individually or in groups, with teaching staff / assistants present to give help. Teaching staff also hold regular "office hours" during which you are welcome to come and ask questions about the material and obtain individual (one-to-one) assistance and feedback.

Practical and transferable skills are developed by the provision of opportunities for hands-on experience through regular workshops and projects. Much of the tuition for statistical computing takes place in computer workshops, which will allow you to learn through active participation. Additional workshops running during the teaching terms provide preparation for the summer research project and cover the communication of statistics, for example, the presentation of statistical graphs and tables. Project supervisors will provide guidance on how to manage an extended task effectively and you are encouraged to monitor your own working practice using a self-assessment questionnaire, as well as to monitor your own progress by self-marking of non-assessed coursework.

All summative assessment is organised at modular level during the academic year in which the module is taken. Most Statistical Science modules employ a combination of end-of-year written examination and coursework to assess your subject-specific knowledge and academic skills, although some modules are entirely coursework based. Statistical project work further assesses your intellectual, academic and research skills by means of word-processed written reports and, in the case of the summer research project, an oral presentation.

Coursework is designed to encourage you to develop your knowledge and skills as each module proceeds. Although not all coursework contributes towards formal assessment, it will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your intellectual and practical skills in written responses to problem sheets and in oral responses during tutorials, with feedback mainly presented through tutorials / problem classes / workshops, and on an individual basis on request.

On average it is expected that a student spends 150 hours studying for each 15-credit module. This includes teaching time, private study and coursework. Modules are usually taught in weekly two-hour sessions over 10 weeks each term.

The core material is delivered through a foundation module (to revise basic concepts in probability and statistics) and further compulsory modules. Programming techniques are introduced within the core modules in order to allow students to code their own statistical methods. Students may then place particular emphasis on their application areas of interest by suitable choice of optional modules.

The research project is a consolidation of the MSc’s taught component. Students will normally analyse and interpret data from a real, complex problem, offering the chance to produce viable solutions. Project topics can be selected from a departmental list, or students can make their own suggestions. The list usually includes some collaborative projects available with industrial partners.

The programme is also offered on a part-time basis over two years. The taught modules are split between the first and second years, but within each year the classes for a particular module are the same ones attended by full-time students (i.e. special teaching times are not offered for the part-time programme).

The foundation module is taken at the beginning of the first year. It is recommended that students also take the module Statistical Models and Data Analysis (STAT0028) in the first year, and module prerequisites need to be fulfilled, but otherwise there is some flexibility in the order that the remaining taught modules can be studied. Part-time students submit their project at the end of the second year. It is possible to arrange with the project supervisor to start to work on the project earlier than full-time students, but part time students are not entitled to a higher amount of supervision overall.

Statistics is the study of the organization and presentation of data. Through systemization and rigorous application of scientific method, data can be presented in such a way as to reveal many esoteric facts that would have otherwise gone unnoticed without the utilization of various statistical methodologies. Statistics is a branch of mathematics that is universally applicable. It is used in fields as diverse as political science and biology. Using statistical methods, we are able to predict outcomes of various events including things such as: the progression of human disease, the performance of financial markets, or a local election. My academic background is primarily based around the sciences. My GCSE subjects that I performed best in were: Mathematics (A*), Further Mathematics (A), and Physics (A). After I left school, I enrolled in the University of Bath for the BSc in Statistics. As part of the coursework at University of Bath, we were required to study analytics, algebra statistics, probability, and accounting. I believe my academic background has made me a viable candidate for a Masters program in statistics. My advanced studies in mathematics and my coursework in statistics, probability, and accounting have provided me with a solid foundation from which I can build and expand my knowledge of the field. I have also worked in a variety of positions and partaken in extra curricular activities that have shown me the importance of statistics in daily life. During my summer internship with AIA, I learned the fundamentals of financial planning and did a two-day licensing course on IIQE Paper I and III. While working as a summer sales executive in SKYphoto, I had to input sales information into databases, and also sell plans to the customers. Both jobs had a high reliance on statistical methods, particularly using computer modeling to extract useful data that the corporate bodies could use. I have held several volunteer positions and was rewarded for my dedication to helping the community with the HKFYG and ISSHK. Furthermore, I am an avid basketball player and was a member of the starting line-up at school. In retrospect basketball also provided me with a basis for my interest in statistics insofar as while preparing for games, my teammates and I would pour over the statistics of the other teams performance. In order to accomplish this, we understood that we had to look at the data of not just the team, but also the individual players. While our application of statistical methods in this regard was by no means rigorous, I believe it set me up for a later appreciation of the power that statistics has. Studying for my MSc in Statistics will enable me to employ statistical methods to a wide range of applications. I am particularly interested in computational finance and the use of computer platforms to solve practical problems in the world of finance. Using the knowledge that I gain from my coursework, I will be able to develop applications to support a wide range of positions within a financial institution. The fields that would utilize my work include the corporate governance arm of an institution as well as the trading arms of the company. I believe myself to be an excellent fit for your program. The combination of academic rigor and diversity of the faculty and student body make this program unparalleled in the field. Finally, I will bring a history of successful problem solving as well as my talent for foreign languages that I think will be a great complement to university life. In sum, statistics has become my passion and this program will allow my passion to expand and grow to something that will be of utmost practical utility.

Statistics is a research-oriented discipline that includes a vast area of research. My country CCC needs special attention, particularly in this field. Considering this fact, I wanted to study Statistics first. I have completed my Bachelor (2009) and Masters (2010) in Applied Statistics from University of ____, CCC . I am highly interested in an MS program in Statistics at The University of ..., CANADA. Another Masters degree will widen my scope; provide strong basis and relevance to pursue my career in Statistics.

During my bachelor's, I submitted a project entitled as, "Applying Vector Autoregressive Model......." in February 2013. The project paper contains a multivariate autoregressive analysis on temperature forecasting of the (district name) district of CCC while considering the other meteorological factors. Related data are taken yearly basis from 1984 to 2012, collected from 'Database and Statistics' published on official website of CCCC Agricultural Research Council, Ministry of Agriculture, CCCC.

I also submitted a thesis report entitled as, "Analysis of Child Mortality Data....." for the partial fulfillment of my master's degree in September 2011. The thesis considered an extension of the Cox's proportional hazards model that allows for heterogeneity due to omitted covariates using frailty (random effect) approach. The covariates involve some key determinants of children's time-to-death event. The data was taken from CCCC Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS), 2010. That's how I got involved with the research work in the field of BioStatistics.

Then I joined International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, CCCC at Emerging Vaccines under the Center for Vaccine Sciences (CVS). I was directly involved in Data Management at that international organization in various public health projects. During that job, I came to know that how village level public health data are collected and managed for future research.

My previous research compels me to continue research in either in theoretical or applied statistics.

I am highly skilled on R, SPSS. I am competent of WinBUGS, SAS, STATA, FORTRAN and MATLAB. While accomplishing my research, I had to work on R, SPSS, and WinBUGS which synchronized subjective knowledge with practical work and expanded my programming knowledge. In professional life, I had to work with Epi Info, FoxPro, Microsoft Access for data management. Apart from this, I am also an efficient user of LaTeX and Microsoft Office Suite.

Considering all the facts, what I have learned and the experience gathered, always stimulate me to dedicate myself in the field of Statistical research. Among the significant areas of Statistics, I would prefer to put more emphasis on BioStatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health Sciences, The design of Experiments, Longitudinal data Analysis, Clinical Trials, Bayesian Statistics, etc. No matter what my research concentration will be, if I would bear a fruitful conclusion and add value to my future career perspective, I will be glad to take the challenge accomplish the research. When I was browsing the internet, I found a faculty member at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, named, Dr. (Prof Name), who works on the BioStatistics collaborative program. I saw that we both have almost same research interests. So I made contact with him. He inspired me to apply for a graduate program, and if I am selected, he will be my research supervisor and possibly be discussing more on his current research.

After completion of this master's degree, my next target will be to have a Ph.D. degree in this field. Then I will return to my home country and would like to dedicate myself to the research of Statistics and apply statistical methods to real-life data to address more important issues. I would love to join the research organizations in my country, who actively work on statistical sectors. They really need manpower with strong academic and research backgrounds. I would also like to teach Statistics at the University level. There are some well-reputed government and private universities in my country, which needs faculty members for the subject 'Statistics', to teach the students and also to conduct some research on various sectors. So if I can strongly prepare myself to contribute for the people of my country, it will be like a dream come true. In the long run, both the Teaching and Research profession of me will contribute to my country.

The graduate program in Statistics at The University of ... is extremely relevant to my above future career plans. I know the university will provide a strong dynamic environment within which to improve my knowledge and skills and develop my career. I believe that the training I will receive pursuing a graduate study at (university name) and research experience will give me the expertise to function as an independent academic investigator so that I have the opportunity to pursue some of the areas of research in which I am interested.

Mathematics and Statistics have interested me all my life and the latter in particular is a large part of my life and my way of thinking. I think mathematics is a most interesting subject. It is amazing that a series of simple numeric characters represent most of the problems in the world. I fell in love with mathematics when I was a young pupil, I selected the right formula and did some simple computational processes and I arrived at the correct answer. I have chosen to study mathematics and statistics at university because I am really addicted to it. I think this mode of mathematical thinking is very useful in real life as well, because it can be used to simplify challenging problems.

Statistics as a subject is needed in order to analyse, organise and research data. We can use statistics to work out and analyse if a proposal is going to be successful or not. Statistics is another reason why I am so interested in mathematics. If pure math is abstract, statistics is much closer to our life. We use data to enable an analysis of different views which is likely to lead to an informed decision. Thus important decisions can be made from statistical research. For example a doctor may consider using a new drug instead of an older one, having set up null and alternative hypotheses and testing a sample statistic doctors can make an informed choice based on statistical analysis. If I use statistics, to arrive at a decision it is achieved in a more logical way. I like to explore football statistics and analyse the different player’s performance. For example, what percentage of shots on target does Rooney manage each match?

When I have free time, I like to research the formulae in my school syllabus and explore the historical roots of how someone came up with these. For example, the ‘Stirling formula’, in which Stirling discovered how to work out the natural logarithm of a huge factorial number.

During my work experience for a charity organisation last summer, I had to develop my communication skills when collecting money from people on the street. In addition I was asked to visit the elderly and housebound in their homes, particularly in a situation, when there were few members of their own family. I am able to maintain a good work-life balance by regularly playing sport; football and badminton. The social and physical challenges have helped me to improve my communication skills.

I also enjoy the team aspects of sport, while keeping fit. I am a keen member of a table tennis club and played in the Suffolk tournaments. This experience enables me to meet many professional players, which gives me a breadth of insight into life outside school. Life at school offers me many opportunities which I am able to take up, such as being a member of the Maths Challenge competition. This requires fast mental skills for working out the different questions. It trains my brain and I can put into practice some aspects of A Level Statistics. In addition, I was chosen to be a boarding prefect this year. I am required to share the pastoral responsibility for the male boarders, alongside staff members. This involves me in meeting numerous boarders, who regularly share concerns and joyful events in their lives. Through this experience I have grown more tolerant of people and different cultures.

I hope to use the statistical knowledge for my future as a statistics researcher, where I may work in a survey company which collects data and interprets it. By analysing the mixed data I would enable the company to improve its profit. My aim would be to make the data more organised and reach a satisfactory conclusion. I am really looking forward to university life and to contributing and participating in many aspects of life there, in addition to developing my knowledge and engaging in lively discussions.

I am writing this Data Science Personal Statement for the MS in Data Science program at UC Berkeley. My goal is to explain why I want to pursue a career in data science and how my experience as an undergraduate student has prepared me for graduate school. As you can see from my resume, I have had many opportunities to work with large amounts of data through internships and research projects over the course of my academic career. These experiences have given me valuable insight into how large-scale computational problems can be tackled by applying statistical methods under tight deadlines while still maintaining quality control over your results. 

In addition, I have taken classes such as AI/ML Systems Design & Implementation and Machine Learning Algorithms. These classes have helped me develop new ways of approaching problems while also providing an understanding of why certain algorithms work better than others when applied in specific situations. 

I am a Data Science Major at UC Berkeley and have been for two years. In order to graduate with a major in Data Science, you must complete four required classes, one of which is an independent study project. 

I have chosen to take this independent study project in order to gain hands-on experience with a data science problem of my choosing and to learn how to effectively apply machine learning algorithms in the real world. My goal is to create an application that can accurately predict where students need tutoring based on their past grades. This project will require me to use various classes of statistical models, such as regression, decision trees, and neural networks.

Ever since the commencement of high school studies, I was keen to know application of mathematics in factuality. Its abstract nature intrigued me to question my teachers about relevance and usefulness to mankind. I wanted to apply my learning and understanding invariably in real world circumstances.

It was until the introduction of Operations Research, while studying at college, which satiated my yearning to a certain extent. The problem solving and analytical techniques in Operations Research fostered the logic and decision making, which I believe, is one key component for developing models in real world or an approach towards mathematical modeling.

The process of creating mathematical representation of a real-world scenario to make predictions or provide insights captivated my interest. Although real world problems are often open ended and require iterative methods, but would also promote problem solving skills, creativity and innovation.

Besides Math, my interest in computing initiated right while coding the first program in C++ during bachelors. The backend scripting while using mobile phone, social media, scanning barcode at grocery or making online transactions, escalated my enthusiasm. I believed in the vigorous nature of programming and its effectiveness to engage world dynamically.

Also the symbiotic relation of computing and mathematics led me towards researching pathways blending the two disciplines, to evolve more powerful outcomes which would inherit the scientific and analytic approaches. While discussing it with a friend last year, I got introduced to the big data world and the interdisciplinary field of Data Science, combining aspects of statistics, mathematics, programming and domain expertise to address real problems. I was looking forward to traverse a similar realm and hence Data Science receives preference.

My previous studies helped to gain essential strategic and adaptive reasoning in the study of Algebra, Geometry, Statistics and Calculus. Integration of mathematics with computing widens the scopes and facilitates challenging yet interesting opportunities. This has instilled passion in me to explore computing specializations like Algorithms, Data structures and Programming fundamentals.

For the past six months I have been working diligently, enrolled in several courses to learn programming fundamentals with Python, SQL basics, Foundations of Data Science, k-Means clustering in Python and also Machine Learning concepts on self-learning platforms like Coursera, Udemy, Simplilearn and Youtube. Successful execution of programs like Conversion scales, time zones, board game and DNA processing using Python, exhilarated me and imparted encouragement. Although this helped me immensely to acquire foundational understanding of the subject. However, I needed more holistic education to gain mastery by pursuing formal studies and enrolling in university.

I started looking for reputed universities to pursue masters in Data science or related computer science streams. I figured that the role of data scientist is one of the most in-demand jobs currently in UK and US. Most likely its demand will originate in other regions of the world. My preference towards UK was obvious for couple of reasons. One year master’s program itself is an advantage from an international student perspective. Ever since inception, British universities are known for quality education and accreditation across the world. Many prominent world personalities from all walks of life, have graduated from English universities.

Joining on campus program at foreign land is much more than just universities. It is about the place, environment, people and also the facilities prevailing. As an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia, for about ten years, I have learnt this significantly. Cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds provide residence to several expatriate communities exhibiting diverse vibrant cultures.

The world has reached a stage when every conceivable organization is becoming data-driven. Like the vast and ever-expanding universe, the big data fields are in a perpetual expansion mode, both fascinate me. Data is becoming more valuable in fast-paced life and this is creating a plethora of opportunities for data-centric roles in reputed organizations. It is no exaggeration to state that Data Science is making astonishing progress in the multiple domains of technology, economy, commerce and medicine.

After completing masters, I look forward to join established organization to acquire mastery and gain hands on experience in Data Science. However, time ahead, I would like to start a company where I can design advance models with the acquired knowledge and expertise from all the domains. For instance model like – ‘Accident free zones’ by collecting information from traffic flow, speed, regulations to make informed decisions regarding public safety or a ‘model school’ to be implemented by combining the best from several curriculums, adaptable for future generations.

For the past ten years I have been in the field of education, gaining expertise in teaching mathematics, designing curriculums and mentoring learning community. Although teaching-learning is my passion, and would definitely continue it as a hobby, however I am also a kind of person who believe in constant change and progress in life. This instinct supports me to accept demanding expeditions. My future endeavors would be to take slight detour from my current profession to establish myself in another exciting province, to leverage my knowledge, skills and career.
