Significance of celebrating the Pakistan Day on 23 March

short essay on 23rd march pakistan day

MARCH 23 is celebrated as “Yaum-e-Pakistan” or Pakistan Resolution Day, also Republic Day. It is a national holiday in Pakistan. This day is celebrated to commemorate the Lahore Resolution passed on 23 March 1940 and the adoption of the first Constitution of Pakistan on 23 March 1956 making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic Republic. Pakistan Resolution was passed/adopted by the then Indian Muslim League, led by Quaid-i-Azam M.A.Jinnah, at the Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore on 23 March 1940, that called for establishing an independent federation, to be named Pakistan, comprising provinces with a Muslim majority located in north-western and north-eastern regions of British-controlled territories in India.

Based on the Muslim League’s efforts and the Pakistan Resolution, the British plan to partition the Indian subcontinent into two dominions, India and Pakistan, was announced on 3 June 1947, leading to the creation of Pakistan out of British-ruled India on 14 August 1947. Pakistan Day celebrations begin with a gun salute in the federal capital and provincial headquarters, followed by special prayers for independence leaders and martyrs. The national flag is raised high on major government and private buildings, with change of guard ceremonies at the mausoleums of Pakistan’s founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

The Republic Day parade, featuring participation from the defense forces and paramilitary units, showcases Pakistan’s major/modern weapon systems and includes aerobatics by Pakistan Air Force pilots and para jumps by the Special Services Group (SSG), inviting Pakistani and foreign dignitaries and the general public to witness. The celebration serves to remind Pakistanis of the significance of Pakistan’s creation and galvanizes them to work towards ensuring social/religious unity and strengthening the nation in various aspects: educationally, health-wise, scientifically/technologically, militarily, and diplomatically. Pakistan came into being because the Hindu majority of united India did not respect the Muslims’ religious values/identity, and during the freedom struggle from the British rule in the 1940s, Congress had refused to meet the Muslim League/Quaid-I-Azam’s demand for reserving Muslims’ seats as per their population in the post-British Indian House of Representatives, and hence the Muslim League demanded a separate home land for the Muslims in the form of the Lahore Resolution. The Indian Congress Leaders had fiercely opposed the creation of Pakistan. Hence India never actually recognized Pakistan and it has always been trying to harm Pakistan. India had forcefully occupied Jammu and Kashmir in October 1947 by deceiving the world about a false instrument of accession. In December 1971, India militarily intervened and exploiting Pakistan’s internal issue, it dismembered Pakistan.

On 5 August 2019, Modi-led BJP government, in total deviance from the UNSC resolutions took away the autonomy of the IIOJK and divided the state into two federally controlled territories. In the last few years, the BJP government ministers and its Army Chiefs have given threats to Pakistan to militarily capture Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Modi has been constantly trying at all major world forums to blame Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism, although ultimately India’s terrorism to kill Sikh leaders in Canada and the US proved that in fact, it was sponsoring terrorism in the region. The aforementioned anti Pakistan actions of India confirm its enmity of Pakistan, especially by the BJP, which is likely to dominate Indian politics in the coming decades.

Militarily there should be no worry for Pakistan with strong armed forces and having nuclear capability from the Indian threats, except that India is using its heavy foreign exchange reserves to further strengthen its air force, navy and missile/nuclear capabilities. For the last many years, Pakistan has successfully fought the war against foreign/Indian-sponsored terrorism, and terrorists are being given a deadly response. An offensive policy to hit Afghan based TTP and BLA terrorists combined with negotiations from the point of strength is likely to work to eliminate terrorism.

The main issue of concern for the Pakistani decision-makers and the people is the foreign and domestic debt-burdened economy and the resultant high inflation and important departments like PIA, Railways, and the Steel Mill operating in the loss for years, thus putting Pakistan’s economy under the threat of defaulting and at the mercy of IMF loan programmes causing further inflation. This situation seems to have arisen out of years-long mismanagement of the economy by the successive Pakistani governments with weak/eyewash handling of the widespread corruption in some government departments and private enterprises. To resolve the economic issue, Pakistani governments, other stakeholders and the people of Pakistan need to start working hard and honestly with full dedication to the country, shunning corruption to do much more to contribute towards increasing Pakistan’s agricultural, industrial and IT software production by using modern technology to meet domestic demand of goods at better prices and increase exports to earn dollars. Also, increasing services efficiency/their export to earn more foreign remittances, earning dollars from IT online jobs/exporting IT-trained manpower abroad, and attracting foreign tourists in Pakistan to earn dollars are required to beef up Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves.

This would help to pay back foreign debt instalments without taking further foreign loans and put the country back on the track of the CPEC-based economic development path to ensure the welfare of the poor masses of Pakistan, to make it prosper and militarily further powerful to defend Pakistan from external threats and maintain itself as a competing regional power/player to gain world prominence/significance which it deserves. The Pakistan/Republic Day on 23 March this year is also going to be celebrated with full zeal, enthusiasm and complete dedication/resolve to exploit Pakistan’s economic/defence and diplomatic capabilities to defend/advance its economic/national interests, for which the above-given facts/suggestions may be considered by the Pakistani decision makers in particular and its people in general.

23RD March 1940 was the day of hope and determination of thousands of Muslims of the subcontinent. On this day, the head of All India Muslim League (AIML) Muhammad Ali Jinnah passed a resolution for the creation of a separate federation based on Muslim-majority regions in British India. He successfully won the debate by speaking to the party members in Lahore, he explained that Hindus and Muslims are two separate entities, as they are entirely different in cultural and religious aspects. Pakistan celebrates 23rd March every year with great spirit and enthusiasm. Every year on this day, the government arranges a special event to give respect to this day. The Lahore Resolution Day parade by the armed forces of Pakistan is the main celebration of the event. This day is celebrated in the memory of a lot of struggles put together by our leaders and most importantly, our mentor QUAID E AZAM in the creation of our beloved homeland Pakistan.

So the nation must mark this 23rd March not only as Pakistan Day, but as the day for revitalizing and reawakening national resolve to stand firm, strong, and united against all the challenges with courage, enthusiasm, and determination.

23rd March: A historic day reminds Muslims’ heroic struggle for Pakistan

23rd March: A historic day reminds Muslims’ heroic struggle for Pakistan

By Fakhar-e-Alam

PESHAWAR, Mar 22 (APP):Faced with endless disparity, inequality and discrimination in that era of darkness and oppression, the Muslims who ruled Indo-Pakistan subcontinent for nearly 800 years, were pushed to the wall by the colonial masters as they considered them arch rival after the failure of the War of Independence 1857.

Deprived Muslims of all kinds of political, economic, human rights and liberties, the colonial masters who grabbed power under the guise of East India Company after overthrowing last Mughal Ruler Bahadar Shah Zafar started tilted towards socioeconomic, political and educational empowerment of the Hindus. This great injustice has furthered increased the intellectual, political and educational decay of the Muslims after they were almost out of government jobs, education, civil and military services.

During that era of darkness and oppression, the Muslims were given a new hope and direction by the renowned educationist and political thinker, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who instilled a new hope, direction and dynamism among oppressed Muslims following an inspirational teaching of the great religious leaders, Mojadad Alf Sani and Shah Waliullah.

Brought about an intellectual revolution among the Muslims through educational, political and social reforms, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan on one side nullified the malicious propaganda of the colonial rulers, Hindus viz a viz pessimist forces and brought Muslims of British India out of the ominous and oppression on the other side besides enabling them to regain their past glory.

The All India Muhammadan Educational Conference (AIMEC) Aligarh founded by Sir Syed in 1886 had empowered the Muslims with modern education, socio-economic development and political unity, helping them to gain ground in that era of hatred and pessimism.

The network of educational institutions, political and social unity under AIMEC had significantly enabled millions of Muslims soon to compete with other communities including Hindus and provided a launching pad for Muslims to initiate a peaceful political and democratic struggle for a separate homeland in the subcontinent.

Muhammad Youas Khan, Chairman, Political Science Department, Islamia College Peshawar told APP that Sir Syed had broken the British-Hindu nexus after its goal-oriented multi-sectoral reforms that excelled followers of Islam in education, social, economic and political sciences, resultantly their voices were strongly heard.

He said the foundation of All India Muslim League (AIML) on December 30, 1906 in Dhaka had united Muslims by giving new impetus to the independence movement for Pakistan.  “The freedom movement had witnessed further momentum after Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah spearheaded it after formally joining AIML in 1913 and outlining of an independent state for Muslims majority provinces in North Western India by the great poet-philosopher Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal during historic Allahabad’s address in 1930.

Thus, Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal became the first politician to articulate the two-nation theory that Muslims were a distinct nation and deserved political independence from other regions and communities of the united India. “Pakistan movement had passed through different phases and finally achieved its practical shape in 1933 during a high-level gathering in London where Chaudhary Rehmat Ali presented the name of Pakistan,” he said.

Recalling Rehmat Ali’s famous saying ‘now or never or perish forever,’ he said the two former students, Aslam Khattak and Inayatullah Khan of Charsadda along with other Muslims leaders endorsed the name of Pakistan. “Pakistan’s name and Allahabad’s historic address had set a clear direction to the Muslims to achieve Pakistan.”

Under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, millions of Muslims assembled at Iqbal Park in Lahore on March 23, 1940 where they passed the historic Pakistan’s Resolution. Following the adoption of the Pakistan Resolution, Quaid-i-Azam reorganized AIML on modern lines and made repeated visits to all Muslims majority provinces including KP (earlier called NWFP) to mobilize masses for Pakistan.

Committed to the noble cause, the legendary Quaid received a historic welcome when he visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) in 1945 where a sea of people arrived to see a few glimpses of their beloved leader. Yousaf said that it was the love of the people of KP with the great Quaid that AIML secured over 50 seats in the province during 1946 elections, rejected Congress and after that historic victory, nobody could stop the independence movement from this province. Finally, Pakistan came into being on August 14, 1947 on the world map within seven years after the adoption of the Pakistan Resolution on March 23, 1940.

“The Pakistan Movement’s history could not be completed without mentioning the historic role of Islamia College Peshawar’s (ICP) students,” he said, adding the legendary Quaid visited ICP in 1936, 1945 and 1948 to acknowledge the outstanding role of its students during the Pakistan Movement.

On April 12, 1948, Quaid-i-Azam visited ICP as the first Governor General of Pakistan where he presented glowing tributes to the services of its students towards making Pakistan in these words. “I am indeed very happy to be present here today and to have the privilege of addressing students of this great Darul Uloom, who are the future builders of Pakistan. Remember your government is like your own garden. Your garden flourishes by the way you look after it and the efforts that you put towards its improvement. Similarly, your government can only flourish by your patriotic, honest and constructive efforts to improve it.”

He wished to construct a university near ICP that was fulfilled by the government within a gap of one year by establishing University of Peshawar in 1949. The Quaid had an immense love for tribesmen of merged tribal districts (Erstwhile FATA) for their strong commitment, loyalty, sacrifices and consistent support during the Pakistan movement acknowledged by him during his address at Grand Tribal Jira at Governor House, Peshawar on April 17, 1948.

He laid great emphasis on education and socio-economic development of tribesmen and considered technical education, science and technology as prerequisites for attaining goals of sustained development and economic prosperity.

23 March Pakistan Day Speech in English Essay Resolution Day

This 23 date in month of March is an important one in the history of Pakistan. This is remembered as Republic day or Pakistan Resolution day. This day is celebrated to remember the efforts and the achievements of the Muslims of sub-continents. On this date, our great leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah gave the historic speech and presented the idea of a separate nation. Before this resolution accepted, the Muslims of sub-continent had no hope, no goals, no views and no future. Moreover, the Muslim politicians were remained in the hands of people with conflicting inclinations and interests. As the Muslim League passed the resolution, the Hindu correspondents began condemning and starts calling it Pakistan Resolution.

Hindus also criticized Mohammad Ali Jinnah and the other prominent leaders of that time. The purpose of mentioning these sacrifices is that our leaders and forerunner faced a lot of criticism and made endless efforts to give us an Islamic independent state.

So 23 rd march is the day of pride, day of feelings for every Pakistani as on this day a dream of an independent state was laid for Muslims so that they can live on the teachings of Islam, can freely follow their culture, traditions and have their own life style. 23 March Pakistan Resolution Day Speech in English

The Resolution was seconded by Maulana Zafar Ali Khan from Punjab, Sardar Aurangzeb from the NWFP, Sir Abdullah Haroon from Sindh, and Qazi Esa from Baluchistan, along with many others. It laid down only the precepts, with the details left to be worked out at a future date. It was made a part of All India Muslim League’s establishment in 1941. More significantly, it was based on this resolution that in 1946 the Muslim League decided to go for one “maverick” state for the Muslims, instead of two.

Having passed the Pakistan Resolution, the Muslims of India altered their ultimate goal. They set out on a path whose goal was a separate country of origin for the Muslims of India, in lieu of seeking union with the Hindu community. Different participating leaders of the session of All-India Muslim League held on March 23, 1940, letting in the Quaid-i-Azam, agreed that India was never united; rather it was split between Muslim India and Hindu India and it would remain so in the future. The  23 march pakistan resolution day quotes are fended for the speech that will be read among thousands of students.

The entire outlooks, customs and customs of cultures of these two different nations were different anyway. They were different not only in their religious beliefs, but their entire mode of life bore a different imprint. The words of the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in his presidential address to the session carried a far deeper impression on the crushed and demoralized Muslims at the hands of ruthless and despotic Coition rule.

Mr Jinnah said: “The Hindus and Muslims belong to two different religious philosophies, social customs and literature. They neither intermarry nor inter-dine together, and indeed they belong to two different civilizations which are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions.” Such a far-reaching speech by Mr Jinnah paved the way for the demand of a separate independent homeland for the exploited Muslims of India, who believed their rights and privileges could not be guarded under a parliamentary form of government.

They also realized that the bloody brutes of the majority without any democratic traditions turned the Hindu rulers tyrannical in their behavior and due to missing of any administrative experience they acted in a way that could be unacceptable in a democratic society. One of the key demands made in the Pakistan resolution moved by chief minister of Bengal Maulvi Fazl-ul-Haq on March 23, 1940, was that no constitutional plan would be workable in this country or acceptable to the Muslims unless it was framed on the followed basic principles. We will update  pakistan resolution day 23 march 1940 essay and  speech on 23 march in english for children on this page.

23rd March Resolution Pakistan Essay English

Those geographically contiguous units are demarcated into regions, which should be constituted with such territorial readjustments as, may be necessary. That the areas wherein the Muslims form majority as in the North-Western and Eastern zones of India be grouped together to constituted ‘independent States’ in which the constituted units shall be autonomous and sovereign. That adequate, effective and mandatory safeguards be specially provided in the constitution for minorities in these units and in the regions for the protection of their religious, cultural, economic, political administrative and other rights of interests in consultation with them and in other parts of India where the Muslims form minority.

New 23 March Pakistan Resolution Day Speech in English & Urdu

Having analyzed the crux of the resolution, one comes to a conclusion as to it (the resolution) laid emphasis on a necessity of a separate Muslim-state for the Muslims of India by grouping the North-Western and Eastern zones of India where they were in majority, constitutional protection to minorities and their rights-cum-interests. The passing of the Lahore Resolution, which was dubbed by the Hindu and the British press as ‘ The Pakistan Resolution ‘, ended in a great hue and cry in the Hindu, Sikh, and British circles.

The Indian press found a new target to incessantly make evil designs and unfurl campaigns against the Muslims and leaders of the Muslim League. Mr. Gandhi declared that partition would mean suicide and the Two-Nation Theory was an unreality. The vast majority of Muslims of India area concerts to Islam or are the descendants of the converts. In consequence, they did not make a separate nation as soon as they become converts, he maintained. Others who flatly opposed the Lahore Resolution were Raj Gopal Achari, B R Ambedkar, Master Tara Singh, Nationalist Muslim group.

On the other hand, the resolution was massively bolstered by many other noted leaders representing different provinces of India, who unanimously adopted it. Sindh too leads, which passed a resolution for Pakistan. Till now, the resolution is deemed to be the quintessence of goal-orientation of the untiring and unfailing struggle of Indian Muslims, dating back to 1857. One of the major impacts of the resolution was that under the leadership of towering personality in Mr. Jinnah not only it did stimulate the Muslim middle-classes to unprecedented political action, but also it caught the imagery of the people of all classes of the Muslim community It was the resolution, which made the Muslims of India discern their own destiny and spelled out destination and route of action for them to a separate Muslim-state.

After the downfall of the Muslim conglomerate, it was the first time that the resolution proved a ‘line of direction’ for drifting Muslims. The resolution not only injected new blood into the veins of the Indian Muslims to speed up their struggle to their destiny but also regenerated their slow-down political activity for self-determination in the areas where they made a numeral bulk.

Speech On 23rd March 1940 In Urdu Essay Pakistan Resolution Day

In the presidential speech of 21st March, Quaid-e-Azam said that ‘Hindu and Muslims belong to two different religious, cultural and educational histories. These two nations can’t tie the knot to each other even they can’t sit together. Life and the concept of living are totally different from each other. Besides this both have different heroes and histories, both have changed perspectives. It is wrong to merge these nations into one nation. Muslims are a separate nation, whatever is the definition of a nation, and Muslims are ebbed to a separate nation so they should have a separate country and homeland where the government should be in their own hands. Pakistan was come into being when the first Hindu embraced Islam. This is the talk of that time when Muslims hadn’t built their empire. Muslim’s nationality is based on the Kalma Tauheed instead of homeland or cast.

After the commencement of this resolution, the attempt of Muslims to the establishment of Pakistan was properly shaped and they became more aggressive. Sacrifices of our ancestors, women, and children for the sake of separation of Pakistan have proved that they are a Muslim nation and deserve a homeland where they can spend their lives according to the Islamic concepts of life. So, we can say that this revolution boosted the spirits of Muslims and in the end, Pakistan became an independent state on 14th August 1947.
