कृष्ण-सुदामा की मित्रता

कृष्ण -सुदामा की मित्रता बहुत प्रचलित है। सुदामा गरीब ब्राह्मण थे। अपने बच्चों का पेट भर सके उतने भी सुदामा के पास पैसे नहीं थे। सुदामा की पत्नी ने कहा, "हम भले ही भूखे रहें, लेकिन बच्चों का पेट तो भरना चाहिए न ?" इतना बोलते-बोलते उसकी आँखों में आँसू आ गए। सुदामा को बहुत दुःख हुआ। उन्होंने कहा, "क्या कर सकते हैं ? किसी के पास माँगने थोड़े ही जा सकते है।" पत्नी ने सुदामा से कहा, "आप कई बार कृष्ण की बात करते हो। आपकी उनके साथ बहुत मित्रता है ऐसा कहते हो। वे तो द्वारका के राजा हैं। वहाँ क्यों नहीं जाते ? जाइए न ! वहाँ कुछ भी माँगना नहीं पड़ेगा !"

द्वारका देखकर सुदामा तो दंग रह गए। पूरी नगरी सोने की थी। लोग बहुत सुखी थे। सुदामा पूछते-पूछते कृष्ण के महल तक पहुँचे। दरवान ने साधू जैसे लगनेवाले सुदामा से पूछा, "एय, यहाँ क्या काम है ?"

सुदामा ने जवाब दिया, "मुझे कृष्ण से मिलना है। वह मेरा मित्र है। अंदर जाकर कहिए कि सुदामा आपसे मिलने आया है।" दरवान को सुदामा के वस्त्र देखकर हँसी आई। उसने जाकर कृष्ण को बताया। सुदामा का नाम सुनते ही कृष्ण खड़े हो गए ! और सुदामा से मिलने दौड़े । सभी आश्चर्य से देख रहे थे ! कहाँ राजा और कहाँ ये साधू ?

कृष्ण सुदामा को महल में ले गए। सांदीपनी ऋषि के गुरुकुल के दिनों की यादें ताज़ा की। सुदामा कृष्ण की समृद्धि देखकर शर्मा गए। सुदामा पोहे की पोटली छुपाने लगे, लेकिन कृष्ण ने खिंच ली। कृष्ण ने उसमें से पोहे निकाले। और खाते हुए बोले, "ऐसा अमृत जैसा स्वाद मुझे और किसी में नहीं मिला।"

बाद में दोनों खाना खाने बैठे। सोने की थाली में अच्छा भोजन परोसा गया। सुदामा का दिल भर आया। उन्हें याद आया कि घर पर बच्चों को पूरा पेट भर खाना भी नहीं मिलता है। सुदामा वहाँ दो दिन रहे। वे कृष्ण के पास कुछ माँग नहीं सके। तीसरे दिन वापस घर जाने के लिए निकले। कृष्ण सुदामा के गले लगे और थोड़ी दूर तक छोड़ने गए।

घर जाते हुए सुदामा को विचार आया, "घर पर पत्नी पूछेगी कि क्या लाए ? तो क्या जवाब दूँगा ?"

सुदामा घर पहुँचे। वहाँ उन्हें अपनी झोपड़ी नज़र ही नहीं आई ! उतने में ही एक सुंदर घर में से उनकी पत्नी बाहर आई। उसने सुंदर कपड़े पहने थे। पत्नी ने सुदामा से कहा, "देखा कृष्ण का प्रताप ! हमारी गरीबी चली गई कृष्ण ने हमारे सारे दुःख दूर कर दिए।" सुदामा को कृष्ण का प्रेम याद आया। उनकी आँखों में खूशी के आँसू आ गए।

देखा दोस्तों, कृष्ण और सुदामा का प्रेम यानी सच्चा मित्र प्रेम । तो दोस्तों सच्चे प्रेम में ऊँच या नीच नहीं देखी जाती और न ही अमीरी-गरीबी देखी जाती है। इसीलिए आज इतने युगों के बाद भी दुनिया कृष्ण और सुदामा की दोस्ती को सच्चे मित्र प्रेम के प्रतीक के रूप में याद करती है।

Krishna and Sudama: दोस्ती का रिश्ता सबसे खास होता है और इसी रिश्ते के नाम होता है अगस्त का पहला रविवार। सच्ची मित्रता में अमीरी-गरीबी के सारे भेद मिट जाते हैं। और यह सिद्घ करती है कृष्ण और सुदामा की दोस्ती।

सुदामा गरीब ब्राह्मण थे। अपने बच्चों का पेट भर सके सुदामा के पास इतने पैसे भी नहीं थे। एक दिन सुदामा की पत्नी ने कहा, ‘हम भले ही भूखे रहें, लेकिन बच्चों का पेट तो भरना होगा । यह कहते-कहते उसकी आंखों में आंसू आ गए। सुदामा को बहुत दु:ख हुआ। उन्होंने कहा, ‘क्या कर सकते हैं? किसी के पास मांगने थोड़े ही जा सकते हैं। पत्नी ने सुदामा से कहा, ‘आप कई बार कृष्ण की बात करते हैं। आप कहते हैं कि आपकी उनके साथ बहुत गहरी मित्रता है। वे तो द्वारका के राजा हैं। वहां क्यों नहीं जाते? जाइए न! वहां कुछ भी मांगना नहीं पड़ेगा! श्वेता

सुदामा को पत्नी की बात सही लगी। सुदामा ने द्वारका जाने का निश्चय किया। पत्नी से कहा, ‘ठीक है, मैं कृष्ण के पास जाऊंगा। लेकिन उसके बच्चों के लिए क्या लेकर जाऊं? सुदामा की पत्नी पड़ोस में से भुने हुए चार चावल ले आई। उसे फटे हुए कपड़े में बांधकर उसकी पोटली बनाई। सुदामा उस पोटली को लेकर द्वारका जाने के लिए निकल पड़े।

द्वारका देखकर सुदामा दंग रह गए। पूरी नगरी सोने की थी। लोग बहुत सुखी थे। सुदामा पूछते-पूछते कृष्ण के महल तक पहुंचे। द्वारपाल ने साधु जैसे लगनेवाले सुदामा से पूछा, यहां क्या काम है? सुदामा ने जवाब दिया, ‘मुझे कृष्ण से मिलना है। वह मेरा मित्र है। अंदर जाकर कहिए कि सुदामा आपसे मिलने आया है। द्वारपाल को सुदामा के फटे-चिटे वस्त्र देखकर हंसी आई। उसने जाकर कृष्ण को बताया। सुदामा का नाम सुनते ही कृष्ण खड़े हो गए और सुदामा से मिलने दौड़े। सभी आश्चर्य से देख रहे थे, यहां तक कि उनकी रानियां भी। कहां राजा और कहां ये साधु!

कृष्ण सुदामा को महल में ले गए। सांदीपनी ऋषि के गुरुकुल के दिनों की यादें ताजा की। उन्हें अपने सिंहासन पर बिठाया और उनके चरण धोए। सुदामा कृष्ण की समृद्धि और अपनी निर्धनता देखकर लज्जित हो गए। सुदामा अपनी पोटली छुपाने लगे, लेकिन कृष्ण ने देख लिया और पोटली खींच ली। कृष्ण ने उसमें से भुने चावल निकाले और खाते हुए बोले, ‘ऐसा अमृत जैसा स्वाद मुझे और किसी में नहीं मिला।

बाद में दोनों भोजन करने बैठे। सोने की थाली में अच्छा भोजन परोसा गया। सुदामा का दिल भर आया। उन्हें याद आया कि घर पर बच्चों को पेट भर खाना भी नहीं मिलता है। सुदामा वहां दो दिन रहे। लेकिन वे कृष्ण से संकोचवश कुछ मांग न सके। तीसरे दिन वापस घर जाने के लिए निकले। कृष्ण सुदामा के गले लगे और थोड़ी दूर तक छोड़ने गए।

घर जाते हुए सुदामा को विचार आया, ‘घर पर पत्नी पूछेगी कि क्या लाए तो क्या जवाब दूंगा? सुदामा घर पहुंचे तो वहां उन्हें अपनी झोपड़ी नजर ही नहीं आई। झोपड़ी की जगह एक सुंदर घर खड़ा था। तभी उस घर में से उनकी पत्नी बाहर आई। उसने सुंदर वस्त्र पहने थे। पत्नी ने सुदामा से कहा, ‘देखा, कृष्ण का प्रताप! हमारी गरीबी चली गई। कृष्ण ने हमारे सारे दु:ख दूर कर दिए। सुदामा को कृष्ण का प्रेम याद आया। उनकी आंखों में खूशी के आंसू आ गए।

Sudama aur Krishna ki Dosti: भारतीय परंपरा (Indian Culture) में मित्र का बहुत महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान होता है. जीवन में माता पिता और गुरु के बाद मित्र को ही स्थान दिया जाता है. मित्र ही हमारे जीवन में एक ऐसा व्यक्ति होता है जिसके साथ हम अपने सुख दुःख को बांट सकते हैं जीवन में कितनी ही कठोर परिस्तिथि हो, मित्र (Friend) हमेशा साथ देते हैं. हिन्दू सभ्यताओं में मित्रता को लेकर कई सारी कहानियां प्रचलित है और इन्हीं कहानियों में से एक है श्री कृष और सुदामा (Lord Krishna and Sudama) की कहानी. जब कभी मित्रता की बात होती है तो कृष्ण और सुदामा की मिसाल दी जाती है. आइए जानते हैं क्यों कृष्णा और सुदामा की दोस्ती को मिसाल की तरह पेश किया जाता है, और क्यों युगों बाद आज भी श्री कृष्ण और सुदामा की दोस्ती के चर्चे हैं.

पौराणिक कथा भगवान श्री कृष्ण और सुदामा की मित्रता आज भी एक मिसाल के रूप में देखी जाती है. बाल्यकाल में जब श्री कृष्ण, ऋषि संदीपन के यहां आश्रम में शिक्षा ग्रहण करने आये तो उनकी मित्रता सुदामा से हुई. श्री कृष्ण एक राज परिवार के राजकुमार थे और सुदामा गरीब ब्राम्हण परिवार में पैदा हुए थे, लेकिन फिर भी श्री कृष्ण और सुदामा की मित्रता आज भी प्रसिद्द है. शिक्षा दीक्षा समाप्त होने के बाद श्री कृष्ण राजा बन गए और सुदामा का विवाह हो गया और वे गांव में ही धर्म कर्म के कार्य करके अपना जीवन यापन करने लगे.

विवाह के पश्चात्य उनके जीवन में कई सारी परेशानियां आने लगीं. जब सुदामा की पत्नी को पता चला की राजा कृष्ण सुदामा के मित्र है तो उन्होंने श्री कृष्ण से उनकी आर्थिक स्तिथि ठीक करने के लिए मदद मांगने को कहा और सुदामा को श्री कृष्ण से मिलने भेजा. अपनी पत्नी की जिद्द के आगे सुदामा की एक न चली और वे श्री कृष्ण से मिलने द्वारिका पहुंच गए. द्वारिका को देख वे हैरान रह गए वह सभी लोग सुखी और संपन्न थे. सुदामा किसी तरह कृष के बारे में पूछते हुए उन्हें महल तक पहुंच गए, और जब वहां के पहरेदारों ने उनसे पूछा कि श्री कृष्ण से क्या काम है तो उन्होंने बताया कि कृष्ण मेरे मित्र हैं. ये जानकारी द्वारपालों ने जब श्री कृष्ण को दी कि कोई सुदामा नामक ब्राम्हण उनसे मिलने आया है. तब राजा कृष्ण अपने मित्र के आने की खबर पाकर स्वयं ही नंगे पैर उनसे मिलने के लिए दौड़ पड़े.

मित्र सुदामा की दयनीय हालत देखकर भगवान कृष्ण के आंसू थमने का नाम नहीं ले रहे थे. भगवान श्री कृष ने उन्हें गले से लगा लिया और उन्हें अपने महल में लेकर गए. भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने सुदामा को अपने स्थान पर बैठाया और स्वयं नीचे बैठकर अपने आंसुओं से सुदामा के पैर धुलवाए. यह घटना भगवान कृष्ण का अपने मित्र सुदामा के प्रति अनन्य प्रेम को दर्शाती है, इसीलिए कृष्ण और सुदामा की दोस्ती की मिसाल दी जाती है. श्री कृष्ण और सुदामा की मित्रता की शिक्षा यह है कि दोस्त चाहे अमीर हो या गरीब , इस बात का कोई महत्व नहीं है। मित्रता में सभी समान हैं और यह एक ऐसा सम्बन्ध है धरती पर जिसको हम चुन सकते है | आइये पढ़ते है कृष्ण और सुदामा की दोस्ती की कहानी |

श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराण  के अनुसार- “राजा परीक्षित ने ब्राह्मणो से कहा- “श्री कृष्ण ! प्रेम और मोक्ष के दाता परब्रह्म परमात्मा भगवान  की शक्ति का कोई अंत नहीं है। इसलिये उनकी माधुर्य और ऐश्वर्य से भरी लीलाएँ भी अंतहीन हैं। 

अब हम श्री कृष्ण की दूसरी लीलाएँ, जिनका वर्णन आपने अब तक नहीं किया है, सुनना चाहते हैं।  मनुष्य विषय-सुख को खोजते-खोजते अत्यन्त दुःखी हो गया है। 

वे बाण की तरह-तरह इसके चित्त में चुभते रहते हैं। ऐसी स्थिति में ऐसा कौन सा रसिक रस का विशेषज्ञ पुरुष होगा, जो बार-बार पवित्रकीर्ति भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की मंगलमयी लीलाओं का श्रवण करके भी उनसे विमुख होना चाहेगा। 

जो जीवा भगवान के गुणों का गान करती है, वही सच्ची वाणी है। वे  हाथ सच्चे हाथ हैं, जो प्रभु की सेवा के लिये कार्य करते हैं। वही मन सच्चा मन हैं, जो चराचर प्राणियों में निवास करने वाले भगवान का हमेशा स्मरण करता है; और वे ही कान वास्तव में कान कहने योग्य हैं, जो भगवान की पुण्यमयी कथाओं का श्रवण करते हैं। 

वही मस्तक मस्तक है, जो चराचर जगत को भगवान की चल-अचल प्रतिमा समझकर झुका करता है और जो सर्वत्र भगद्विग्रह का दर्शन करते हैं, वे ही नेत्र वास्तव में नेत्र हैं। 

शरीर के जो अंग भगवान और उनके भक्तों के चरणोंदक का सेवन करते हैं, वे ही अंग वास्तव में अंग हैं; सच पूछिये तो उन्हीं का होना सफल है।”

सूतजी कहते हैं- “शौनकादि ऋषियों! जब राजा परीक्षित ने इस प्रकार प्रश्न किया, तब भगवान श्रीशुकदेवजी का हृदय भगवान श्रीकृष्ण में ही तल्लीन हो गया। उन्होंने परीक्षित से इस प्रकार कहा। 

श्रीशुकदेवजी ने आगे कथा सुनते हुए कहा – “परीक्षित! एक ब्राह्मण भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के परम मित्र थे इनका नाम सुदामा था। वे बड़े ब्रह्मज्ञानी, विषयों से विरक्त, शान्तचित्त और जितेन्द्रिय थे। वे गृहस्थ होने पर भी किसी प्रकार का संग्रह-परिग्रह न रखकर प्रारब्ध के अनुसार जो कुछ मिल जाता, उसी में सन्तुष्ट रहते थे। 

उनके तन पर वस्त्र तो फटे-पुराने थे ही, उनकी पत्नी के भी हाल वैसे ही थे। वह भी अपने पति की तरह भूख से दुबली हो रही थी। 

एक दिन दरिद्रता की प्रतिमूर्ति बहुत दुखी होकर, भूख के मारे काँपती हुई अपने पतिदेव के पास गयी और बिनम्र हुए मुँह से बोली- “भगवन! साक्षात लक्ष्मीपति भगवान श्रीकृष्ण आपके बाल सखा हैं। वे भक्तवांछाकल्पतरु, शरणागतवत्सल और ब्राह्मणों के परम भक्त हैं। 

परम भाग्यवान आर्यपुत्र! वे साधु-संतों के, सत्पुरुषों के एकमात्र आश्रय हैं। आप अपने सखा के पास जाइये और सारा हाल सुनाइए । 

जब वे यह जानेंगे कि आप का परिवार हैं और अन्न के बिना पालन पोषण मुश्किल से हो रहा है और आप इस कारन दुखी हैं तो वे आपको बहुत सारा धन देकर आपकी सहायता करेंगे |

आजकल वे भोज, वृष्णि और अन्धकवंशी यादवों के स्वामी के रूप द्वरिकादीश बनकर द्वारका में ही निवास कर रहे हैं और इतने उदार हैं कि जो उनके चरण कमलों का स्मरण करता हैं, उन प्रेमी भक्तों को वे अपने-आप तक का दान कर डालते हैं। 

ऐसी स्थिति में  भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अपने भक्तों को यदि धन और विषय-सुख, जो अत्यन्त वाञ्छनीय नहीं है, दें दें तो इसमें आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है |

इस प्रकार जब उन सुदामा की पत्नी ने अपने पति से कई बार बड़ी नम्रता से प्रार्थना की, तब उन्होंने मैं में बिचार किया कि ‘धन दौलत  की तो कोई बात नहीं; परन्तु उनके आराध्य भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का दर्शनों का बहुत बड़ा लाभ मिल जायेगा।’ 

यही विचार करके उन्होंने द्वारिका जाने का निश्चय किया और अपनी पत्नी से बोले- “प्रिय, खली हाथ मित्र से भेंट करने कैसे जाऊँ ! 

घर में कुछ भेंट देने के लिए कोई वस्तु  है क्या? अगर हो तो दे दो।

तब सुदामा की पत्नी ने पड़ोस के ब्राह्मणों के घर से चार मुट्ठी चावल माँगकर एक कपड़े की पोटली बाँध दिया और भगवान को भेंट देने के लिये सुदामा जी को दे दिये।

इसके बाद वे सुदामा जी उन चावलों की पोटली को लेकर द्वारका के लिये पैदल चल पड़े। प्रभु का भजन कीर्तन करते वे मार्ग में यह सोचते जाते थे कि ‘मुझे भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के दर्शन कैसे प्राप्त होंगे?’

पैदल चलते चलते सुदामा के पैरों में छाले पड़ गए थे ! श्री कृष्ण अंतर ध्यान होकर सब हाल जान रहे थे | अपने मित्र और परम भक्त को देख प्रभु ने सुदामा की सहायता के लिए एक बैलगाड़ी लेकर और अपना एक ब्यापारी भेष बनाकर आये |

उन्होने सुदामा जी को आग्रह किया की वो उनके साथ बैलगाड़ी में बैठ जाएँ की वह भी किसी काम से द्वारिका की और जा रहे है |

सुदामा जी उसमें बैठ गए और भगवान श्री कृष्ण ने उनको द्वारिका के दरवाज़े तक पहुंचा दिया और खुद विदा लेकर चले गए |

द्वारका में पहुँचने पर वे सुदामा दूसरे ब्राह्मणों के साथ सैनिकों की तीन छावनियाँ और तीन ड्योढ़ियाँ पार करके भगवद्धर्म का पालन करने वाले अन्धक और वृष्णिवंशी यादवों के महलों में, जहाँ पहुँचना अत्यन्त कठिन है, वहां जा पहुँचे। 

उनके बीच भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की सोलह हज़ार रानियों के महल थे। उनमें से एक महल के प्रहरी से सुदामा जी ने प्रवेश करने का आग्रह किया। वह महल खूब सजा-सजाया, अत्यन्त शोभा-युक्त था। सुदामा जी ने सोचा यही भगवान कृष्ण का महल होगा |

उस नगरी में प्रवेश के  समय उन्हें ऐसा मालूम हुआ, मानो वे ब्रह्मानन्द के समुद्र में डूब-उतरा रहे हों। 

प्रहरी को अपने राजा को सन्देश पहुँचाने के लिए आग्रह किया की उनके द्वार पर सुदामा आये है और यह भी बताया की श्री कृष्ण उनके बाल सखा है |

प्रहरी यह सुनकर असहज हो गया और ब्राह्मण देवता को दान दक्षिणा लेकर लौट जाने के लिए कह दिया | द्वारिका की रक्षा करने का भार सेनापति अक्रूर जी को दिया था | 

जब सैनिक ने सेनापति को सारा वृतांत सुनाया तो अक्रूर जी खुद आकर ब्राहण से मिले और प्रहरी को आदेश दिया की द्वरिकादीश को खबर पहुंचा दी जाये |

उस समय भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अपनी प्राणप्रिया रुक्मिणीजी के महल में विराजे हुए थे। 

ब्राह्मण देवता का नाम सुनकर वे सहसा उठ खड़े हुए और उनसे मिलने महल से बाहर की तरफ दौड़े | उनके पास आकर बड़े आनन्द से उन्हें अपने भुजपाश में बाँध लिया। 

भगवान अपने प्यारे सखा सुदामा के अंग-स्पर्श से अत्यन्त आनन्दित हुए।  उनके कमल के समान कोमल नेत्रों से प्रेम के आँसू बरसने लगे। 

सुदामा जी महल में स्वागत

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण उन्हें रथ में महल के अन्दर ले गए और उनका भव्य स्वागत किया गया | श्री कृष्ण ने उन्हें ले जाकर अपने पलंग पर बैठा दिया और  पूजन की सामग्री लाकर तीनो रानियों ने उनकी आरती की। 

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण सभी को पवित्र करने वाले हैं; फिर भी उन्होंने अपने हाथों ब्राह्मणदेवता के पाँव पखारकर उनका चरणोंदक अपने सिर पर धारण किया और उनके शरीर में चन्दन, अरगजा, केसर आदि दिव्य गन्धों का लेपन किया।

फिर उन्होंने बड़े आनन्द से सुगन्धित धूप और दीपावली से अपने मित्र की आरती उतारी। इस प्रकार पूजा करके, पान एवं गाय देकर मधुर वचनों से ‘भले पधारे’ ऐसा कहकर उनका स्वागत किया।

सुदामा फटे-पुराने वस्त्र पहने हुए थे। शरीर अत्यन्त मलिन और दुर्बल था। देह की सारी नसें दिखायी पड़ती थीं। स्वयं भगवती रुक्मिणीजी चँवर डुलाकर उनकी सेवा करने लगीं। 

अन्त:पुर की स्त्रियाँ यह देखकर अत्यन्त विस्मित हो गयीं कि पवित्रकीर्ति भगवान श्रीकृष्ण अतिशय प्रेम से इस मैले-कुचैले अवधूत ब्राह्मण की पूजा कर रहे हैं। वे आपस में कहने लगीं- “इस नंग-धड़ंग, निर्धन, निन्दनीय और निकृष्ट भिखमंगे ने ऐसा कौन-सा पुण्य किया है, जिससे त्रिलोकी-गुरु श्रीनिवास श्रीकृष्ण स्वयं इसका आदर-सत्कार कर रहे हैं। 

देखो तो सही, इन्होंने अपने पलंग पर सेवा करती हुई स्वयं लक्ष्मीरूपिणी रुक्मिणीजी को छोड़कर इस ब्राह्मण को अपने बड़े भाई बलरामजी के समान हृदय से लगाया है।

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण और वे ब्राह्मण दोनों एक-दूसरे का हाथ पकड़कर अपने पूर्व जीवन की उन आनन्ददायक घटनाओं का स्मरण और वर्णन करने लगे, जो गुरु सांदीपनि जी के गुरुकुल में रहते समय घटित हुई थीं।

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- “धर्म के मर्मज्ञ ब्राह्मणदेव! गुरुदक्षिणा देकर जब आप गुरुकुल से लौट आये, तब आपने अपने अनुरूप स्त्री से विवाह किया या नहीं? मैं जानता हूँ कि आपका चित्त गृहस्थी में रहने पर भी प्रायः विषय-भोगों में आसक्त नहीं है। विद्वान! यह भी मुझे मालूम है कि धन आदि में भी आपकी कोई प्रीति नहीं है। 

जगत में विरले ही लोग ऐसे होते हैं, जो भगवान की माया से निर्मित विषयसम्बन्धी वासनाओं का त्याग कर देते हैं और चित्त में विषयों की तनिक भी वासना न रहने पर भी मेरे समान केवल लोकशिक्षा के लिये कर्म करते रहते हैं। 

ब्राह्मणशिरोमणे! क्या आपको उस समय की बात याद है, जब हम दोनों एक साथ गुरुकुल में निवास करते थे। सचमुच गुरुकुल में ही द्विजातियों को अपने ज्ञातव्य वस्तु का ज्ञान होता है, जिसके द्वारा वे अज्ञानान्धकार से पार हो जाते हैं।

मित्र! इस संसार में शरीर का कारण-जन्मदाता पिता प्रथम गुरु है। इसके बाद उपनयन-संस्कार करके सत्कर्मों की शिक्षा देने वाला दूसरा गुरु है। वह मेरे ही समान पूज्य है। तदनन्तर ज्ञानोपदेश करके परमात्मा को प्राप्त कराने वाला गुरु तो मेरा स्वरूप ही है। 

वर्णाश्रमियों के ये तीन गुरु होते हैं। मेरे प्यारे मित्र! गुरु के स्वरूप में स्वयं मैं हूँ। इस जगत में वर्णाश्रमियों में जो लोग अपने गुरुदेव के उपदेशानुसार अनायास ही भवसागर पार कर लेते हैं, वे अपने स्वार्थ और परमार्थ के सच्चे जानकार हैं। प्रिय मित्र! मैं सबका आत्मा हूँ, सबके हृदय में अन्तर्यामी रूप से विराजमान हूँ। 

मैं गृहस्थ के धर्म पंचमहायज्ञ आदि से, ब्रह्मचारी के धर्म उपनयन-वेदाध्ययन आदि से, वानप्रस्थी के धर्म तपस्या से और सब ओर से उपरत हो जाना, इस संन्यासी के धर्म से भी उतना सन्तुष्ट नहीं होता, जितना गुरुदेव की सेवा-शुश्रूषा से सन्तुष्ट होता हूँ।

ब्रह्मन! जिस समय हम लोग गुरुकुल में निवास कर रहे थे; उस समय की वह बात आपको याद है क्या, जब हम दोनों को एक दिन हमारी गुरुपत्नी ने ईंधन लाने के लिये जंगल में भेजा था। 

उस समय हम लोग एक घोर जंगल में गये हुए थे और बिना ऋतु के ही बड़ा भयंकर आँधी-पानी आ गया था। आकाश में बिजली कड़कने लगी थी। तब तक सूर्यास्त हो गया; चारों ओर अँधेरा-ही-अँधेरा फ़ैल गया।

धरती पर इस प्रकार पानी-ही-पानी हो गया कि कहाँ गड्ढा है, कहाँ किनारा, इसका पता ही न चलता था। वह वर्षा क्या थी, एक छोटा-मोटा प्रलय ही था। 

आँधी के झटकों और वर्षा की बौछारों से हम लोगों को बड़ी पीड़ा हुई, दिशा का ज्ञान न रहा। हम लोग अत्यन्त आतुर हो गये और एक-दूसरे का हाथ पकड़कर जंगल में इधर-उधर भटकते रहे। 

जब हमारे गुरुदेव सान्दीपनि मुनि को इस बात का पता चला, तब वे सूर्योदय होने पर अपने शिष्य, हम लोगों को ढूँढते हुए जंगल में पहुँचे और उन्होंने देखा कि हम अत्यन्त आतुर हो रहे हैं। वे कहने लगे- “आश्चर्य है, आश्चर्य है! पुत्रों! तुम लोगों ने हमारे लिये अत्यन्त कष्ट उठाया। सभी प्राणियों को अपना शरीर सबसे अधिक प्रिय होता है; परन्तु तुम दोनों उसकी भी परवा न करके हमारी सेवा में ही संलग्न रहे। 

गुरु के ऋण से मुक्त होने के लिये सत्-शिष्यों का इतना ही कर्तव्य है कि वे विशुद्ध भाव से अपना सब कुछ और शरीर भी गुरुदेव की सेवा में समर्पित कर दें। द्विज-शिरोमणियों! मैं तुम लोगों से अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हूँ। 

तुम्हारे सारे मनोरथ, सारी अभिलाषाएँ पूर्ण हों, और तुम लोगों ने हमसे जो वेदाध्ययन किया है, वह तुम्हें सर्वदा कण्ठस्थ रहे तथा इस लोक एवं परलोक में कहीं भी निष्फल न हो। 

प्रिय मित्र! जिस समय हम लोग गुरुकुल में निवास कर रहे थे, हमारे जीवन में ऐसी-ऐसी अनेकों घटनाएँ घटित हुईं थीं। इसमें सन्देह नहीं कि गुरुदेव की कृपा से ही मनुष्य शान्ति का अधिकारी होता और पूर्णता को प्राप्त करता है।”

ब्राह्मणदेवता ने कहा- “देवताओं के आराध्यदेव जगद्गुरु श्रीकृष्ण! भला, अब हमें क्या करना बाकी है? क्योंकि आपके साथ, जो सत्यसंकल्प परमात्मा हैं, हमें गुरुकुल में रहने का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ था। 

प्रभो! छन्दोमय वेद, धर्म, अर्थ, काम, मोक्ष, चतुर्विध पुरुषार्थ के मूल स्त्रोत हैं; और वे हैं आपके शरीर। वही आप वेदाध्ययन के लिये गुरुकुल में निवास करें, यह मनुष्य-लीला का अभिनय नहीं तो और क्या है?”

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण सबके मन की बात जानते हैं। वे ब्राह्मणों के परम भक्त, उनके क्लेशों के नाशक और संतों के एकमात्र आश्रय हैं। वे पूर्वोक्त प्रकार से उन ब्राह्मणदेवता के साथ बहुत देर तक बीतचीत करते रहे। 

अब वे अपने प्यारे सखा उन ब्राह्मण से तनिक मुस्कुराकर विनोद करते हुए बोले। उस समय भगवान सुदामा की ओर प्रेमभरी दृष्टि से देख रहे थे। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- “सुदामा ! आप अपने घर से मेरे लिए क्या उपहार लाये हैं? भाभी ने खली हाथ तो तुम्हे भेजा नहीं होगा ? कुछ तो बांध के दिया होगा |

मेरे प्रेमी भक्त जब प्रेम से थोड़ी-सी वस्तु भी मुझे अर्पण करते हैं तो वह मेरे लिए बहुत हो जाती है। 

परन्तु मेरे अभक्त यदि बहुत-सी सामग्री भी मुझे भेंट करते हैं तो उससे मैं सन्तुष्ट नहीं होता। जो पुरुष प्रेमभक्ति के फल-फूल अथवा पत्ता-पानी में से कोई भी वस्तु मुझे समर्पित करता है, तो मैं उस शुद्धचित्त भक्त का वह प्रेमोपहार केवल स्वीकार ही नहीं करता, बल्कि तुरंत भोग लगा लेता हूँ।

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के ऐसा कहने पर भी उन ब्राह्मण देवता ने लज्जावश उन लक्ष्मीपति को वे चार मुट्ठी चावल नहीं दिये। उन्होंने संकोच से अपना मुँह नीचे कर लिया था। 

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण समस्त प्राणियों के हृदय का एक-एक संकल्प और उनका अभाव भी जानते हैं। उन्होंने ब्राह्मण के आने का कारण, उनके हृदय की बात जान ली थी। 

अब वे विचार करने लगे कि “एक तो यह मेरा प्यारा सखा है, दूसरे इसने पहले कभी लक्ष्मी की कामना से मेरा भजन नहीं किया है।

इस समय यह अपनी पतिव्रता पत्नी को प्रसन्न करने के लिये उसी के आग्रह से यहाँ आया है। अब मैं इसे ऐसी सम्पत्ति दूँगा, जो देवताओं के लिये भी अत्यंत दुर्लभ है। 

भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने ऐसा विचार करके उनके वस्त्र की एक पोटली में बँधा हुआ देखा | यह क्या है, ऐसा कहकर स्वयं ही छीन लिया और बड़े आदर से पोटली खोलकर कहने लगे- “प्यारे मित्र! यह तो तुम मेरे लिए अत्यन्त प्रिय भेंट ले आये हो। ये चावल न केवल मुझे, बल्कि सारे संसार को तृप्त करने के लिए पर्याप्त हैं।” भगवान ने कहा इन चार मुट्ठी चावल पर चार लोक बार दूँ |

ऐसा कहकर उसमें से तीन  मुट्ठी चावल खा गए और दूसरी मुट्टी ज्यों ही भरी त्यों ही रुक्मिणीजी के रूप में स्वयं भगवती लक्ष्मीजी ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का हाथ पकड़ लिया। क्योंकि वे तो एकमात्र भगवान के परायण हैं, उन्हें छोड़कर और कहीं जा नहीं सकतीं। 

रुक्मिणीजी ने कहा- “विश्वात्मन! बस, बस! मनुष्य को इस लोक में तथा मरने के बाद परलोक में भी समस्त संपत्तियों की समृद्धि प्राप्त करने के लिए यह एक मुट्टी चावल  ही बहुत है; क्योंकि आपके लिये इतना ही प्रसन्नता का हेतु बन जाता है।

ब्राह्मण सुदामा उस रात को भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के महल में ही रहे। उन्होंने बड़े आराम से वहाँ खाया-पिया और ऐसा अनुभव किया, मानो मैं वैकुण्ठ में ही पहुँच गया हूँ। 

ब्राह्मण ने श्री कृष्ण से बापिस अपने घर जाने की आज्ञा मांगी | परिवार से दूर होने की बात कहकर श्री कृष्ण ने उन्हें भारी मन से जाने की आज्ञा दे दी |

श्रीकृष्ण से ब्राह्मण को प्रत्यक्ष रूप में कुछ भी न मिला और उन्होंने श्री कृष्ण से कुछ माँगा नहीं है। वे अपने चित्त की करतूत पर कुछ लज्जित से होकर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के दर्शनजनित आनन्द में डूबते-उतराते अपने घर की और चल पड़े।

वे मन-ही-मन सोचने लगे- “अहो, कितने आनन्द और आश्चर्य की बात है। ब्राह्मणों को अपना इष्टदेव मानने वाले भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की ब्राह्मण भक्ति आज मैंने अपनी आँखों से देख ली। धन्य हैं! जिनके वक्षःस्थल पर स्वयं लक्ष्मीजी सदा विराजमान रहती हैं, उन्होंने मुझ अत्यन्त दरिद्र को अपने हृदय से लगा लिया। 

कहाँ तो मैं अत्यन्त पापी और दरिद्र, और कहाँ लक्ष्मी के एकमात्र आश्रय भगवान श्रीकृष्ण! परन्तु उन्होंने ‘यह ब्राह्मण है’-ऐसा समझकर मुझे अपनी भुजाओं में भरकर हृदय से लगा लिया। इतना ही नहीं, उन्होंने मुझे उस पलंग पर सुलाया, जिस पर उनकी प्राणप्रिया रुक्मिणीजी शयन करती हैं। मानो मैं उसका सगा भाई हूँ! कहाँ तक कहूँ? मैं थका हुआ था, इसलिये स्वयं उनकी पटरानी रुक्मिणीजी ने अपने हाथों चँवर डुलाकर मेरी सेवा की। 

ओह, देवताओं के आराध्यदेव होकर ब्राह्मणों को अपना इष्टदेव मानने वाले प्रभु ने पाँव दबाकर, अपने हाथों खिला-पिलाकर मेरी अत्यन्त सेवा-सुश्रुवा की और देवता के समान मेरी पूजा की। 

स्वर्ग, मोक्ष, पृथ्वी और रसातल की सम्पत्ति तथा समस्त योगसिद्धियों की प्राप्ति का मूल उनके चरणों की पूजा ही है। फिर भी परम दयालु श्रीकृष्ण ने यह सोचकर मुझे थोडा-सा भी धन नहीं दिया की कहीं यह दरिद्र धन पाकर बिलकुल मतवाला न हो जाय और मुझे न भूल बैठे।”

इस प्रकार मन-ही-मन विचार करते-करते ब्राह्मणदेवता अपने घर के पास पहुँच गये। वे वहाँ क्या देखते हैं कि सब-का-सब स्थान सूर्य, अग्नि और चन्द्रमा के सामान तेजस्वी रत्न निर्मित महलों से घिरा हुआ है। 

ठौर-ठौर चित्र-विचित्र उपवन और उद्यान बने हुए हैं तथा उसमें झुंड-के-झुंड रंग-बिरंगे पक्षी कलरव कर रहे हैं। 

सरोवरों में कुमुदिनी तथा श्वेत, नील और सौगन्धिक-भाँति-भाँति के कमल खिले हुए हैं; सुन्दर-सुन्दर स्त्री-पुरुष बन-ठनकर इधर-उधर विचर रहे हैं। 

उस स्थान को देखकर ब्रह्माणदेवता सोचने लगे- “मैं यह क्या देख रहा हूँ? यह किसका स्थान है? यदि यह वही स्थान है, जहाँ मैं रहता था तो यह ऐसा कैसे हो गया।” 

इस प्रकार वे सोच ही रहे थे कि देवताओं के समान सुन्दर-सुन्दर स्त्री-पुरुष गाजे-बाजे के साथ मंगलगीत गाते हुए उस महाभाग्यवान ब्राह्मण की अगवानी करने के लिये आये। 

पतिदेव का शुभागमन सुनकर ब्राह्मणी को अपार आनन्द हुआ और वह हड़बड़ा कर जल्दी-जल्दी घर से निकल आयी, वह ऐसी मालूम होती थी मानो मूर्तिमती लक्ष्मीजी ही कमलवन से पधारी हों। 

पतिदेव को देखते ही पतिव्रता पत्नी के नेत्रों में प्रेम और उत्कण्ठा के आवेग से आँसू छलक आये। उसने अपने नेत्र बंद कर लिये। ब्राह्मणी ने बड़े प्रेमभाव से उन्हें नमस्कार किया और मन-ही-मन आलिंगन भी।

प्रिय परीक्षित! ब्राह्मणपत्नी सोने का हार पहनी हुई दासियों के बीच में विमानस्थित देवांगना के समान अत्यन्त शोभायमान एवं देदीप्यमान हो रही थी। 

उसे इस रूप में देखकर वे विस्मित हो गये। उन्होंने अपनी पत्नी के साथ बड़े प्रेम से अपने महल में प्रवेश किया। उनका महल क्या था, मानो देवराज इन्द्र का निवासस्थान। इसमें मणियों के सैकड़ों खंभे खड़े थे। 

हाथी के दाँत के बने हुए और सोने के पात के मढ़े हुई पलंगों पर दूध के फेन की तरह श्वेत और कोमल बिछौने बिछ रहे थे। बहुत-से चँवर वहाँ रखे हुए थे, जिसमें सोने की डंडियाँ लगी हुई थीं। 

सोने के सिंहासन शोभायमान हो रहे थे, जिन पर बड़ी कोमल-कोमल गद्दियाँ लगी हुई थीं। ऐसे चँदोवे भी झिलमिला रहे थे, जिसमें मोतियों की लड़ियाँ लटक रही थीं। स्फटिकमणि की स्वच्छ भीतों पर पन्ने की पच्चीकारी की हुई थी। 

रत्ननिर्मित स्त्रीमूर्तियों के हाथ में रत्नों के दीपक जगमगा रहे थे।

इस प्रकार समस्त सम्पत्तियों की समृद्धि देखकर और उसका कोई प्रत्यक्ष कारण न पाकर, बड़ी गम्भीरता से ब्राह्मणदेवता विचार करने लगे कि मेरे पास इतनी सम्पत्ति कहाँ से आ गयी। वे मन-ही-मन कहने लगे- “मैं जन्म से ही भाग्यहीन और दरिद्र हूँ। फिर मेरी इस सम्पत्ति-समृद्धि का कारण क्या है? 

अवश्य ही परमैश्वर्यशाली यदुवंशशिरोमणि भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के कृपाकटाक्ष के अतिरिक्त और कोई कारण नहीं हो सकता। यह सब कुछ उनकी करुणा की ही देन है। 

स्वयं भगवान श्रीकृष्ण पूर्णकाम और लक्ष्मीपति होने के कारण अत्यन्त भोग-विलास सामग्रियों से युक्त हैं। इसलिये वे याचक भक्त को उसके मन का भाव जानकर बहुत कुछ दे देते हैं, परन्तु उसे समझते हैं बहुत थोड़ा; इसलिये सामने कुछ कहते नहीं। 

मेरे यदुवंशशिरोमणि सखा श्यामसुन्दर सचमुच उस मेघ से भी बढ़कर उदार हैं, जो समुद्र को भर देने की शक्ति रखने पर भी किसान के सामने न बरसकर उसके सो जाने पर रात में बरसता है और बहुत बरसने पर भी थोडा ही समझता है। 

मेरे प्यारे सखा श्रीकृष्ण देते हैं बहुत, पर उसे मानते हैं बहुत थोड़ा। और उनका प्रेमी भक्त यदि उनके लिये कुछ भी कर दे, तो वे उसको बहुत मान लेते हैं। देखो तो सही! मैंने उन्हें केवल एक मुट्ठी चिउड़ा भेंट किया था, पर उदारशिरोमणि श्रीकृष्ण ने उसे कितने प्रेम से स्वीकार किया। 

मुझे जन्म-जन्म उन्हीं का प्रेम, उन्हीं की हितैषिता, उन्हीं की मित्रता और उन्हीं की सेवा प्राप्त हो। मुझे सम्पत्ति की आवश्यकता नहीं, सदा-सर्वदा उन्हीं गुणों के एकमात्र निवासस्थान महानुभाव भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के चरणों में मेरा अनुराग बढ़ता जाय और उन्हीं के प्रेमी भक्तों का सत्संग प्राप्त हो। 

अजन्मा भगवान श्रीकृष्ण सम्पत्ति आदि के दोष जानते हैं। वे देखते हैं कि बड़े-बड़े धनिकों का धन और ऐश्वर्य के मद से पतन हो जाता है। इसलिये वे अपने अदूरदर्शी भक्त को उसके माँगते रहने पर भी तरह-तरह की सम्पत्ति, राज्य और ऐश्वर्य आदि नहीं देते। यह उनकी बड़ी कृपा है।

अपनी बुद्धि से इस प्रकार निश्चय करके वे ब्राह्मणदेवता त्यागपूर्वक अनासक्त भाव से अपनी पत्नी के साथ भगवत्प्रसाद स्वरूप विषयों को ग्रहण करने लगे और दिनों दिन उनकी प्रेम-भक्ति बढ़ने लगी। 

देवताओं के भी आराध्यदेव भक्त-भयहारी यज्ञपति सर्वशक्तिमान भगवान स्वयं ब्राह्मणों को अपना प्रभु, अपना इष्टदेव मानते हैं। इसलिये ब्राह्मणों से बढ़कर और कोई भी प्राणी जगत में नहीं है। 

इस प्रकार भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के प्यारे सखा उस ब्राह्मण ने देखा कि ‘यद्यपि भगवान अजित हैं, किसी के अधीन नहीं हैं; फिर भी वे अपने सेवकों के अधीन हो जाते हैं, उनसे पराजित हो जाते हैं,’ अब वे उन्हीं के ध्यान में तन्मय हो गये। 

ध्यान के आवेग से उनकी अविद्या की गाँठ कट गयी और उन्होंने थोड़े ही समय में भगवान का धाम, जो की संतों का एकमात्र आश्रय है, प्राप्त किया। 

ब्राह्मणों को अपना इष्टदेव मानने वाले भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की इस ब्राह्मण भक्ति को जो सुनता है, उसे भगवान के चरणों में प्रेमभाव प्राप्त हो जाता है और वह कर्मबन्धन से मुक्त हो जाता है।

कृष्णा जन्माष्टमी क्यों मनाई जाती है?

भाई कंस के अत्याचार सहते हुए कारागार में बंद माता देवकी की आठवीं संतान के रूप में भाद्रपद के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि को श्रीकृष्ण का जन्म हुआ था इसलिए हर साल भाद्रपद के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी को कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी का पर्व मनाया जाता है

कृष्णा सुदामा मंदिर कहा है

पूरे भारत में केवल दो ही स्थान हैं, जहां कृष्ण-सुदामा मंदिर है। मित्रता को समर्पित इन मंदिरों में से एक गुजरात के पोरबंदर में और दूसरा मध्यप्रदेश के उज्जैन के पास नारायणधाम में है।

Krishna-Sudama Story  

Sudama was Shri Krishna’s childhood friend. It is believed that Sudama took birth on earth to be ready to meet Krishna and participate in His deeds. He is also believed to be a true devotee of Lord Vishnu.

The story of Sudama and Krishna is about love and Friendship with a lesson to teach.

Sudama was born into a low-income family. On the other hand, Krishna was from a royal background. However, the difference between their status did not hinder their true friendship or bond.

The two, Sudama and Krishna, were inseparable. To date, their oneness is an example of true Friendship ahead of the planet. It is often why they are remembered on the auspicious occasion of Friendship’s Day. 

Even after losing touch for several years after finishing studies together, they did not leave the  hope of meeting again. Sudama always had Lord Krishna in his heart and soul and kept thinking  of Him until they met again. 

The entire incident when Sudama met Krishna after numerous years is unforgettable and touching. Even today, when we remember those times, we have tears in our eyes thinking of the friendship, the love that the two of them had for each other.

Lord Krishna and Sudama were childhood friends and schoolmates at Gurukul & studied under the guidance of Guru Sandipani. After their Education got completed, they got separated. But neither Krishna nor Sudama was able to forget their divine Friendship.

Both Krishna & Sudama grew up. Sudama and his wife led poverty stricken life. But he was the one dedicated to the religious path, teaching religious path to people  and, therefore, telling them the real meaning of their life. Meanwhile, Lord Krishna became the  King of Dwarka. 

When Sudama and his family suffered much from poverty and did not have money to feed his children, his wife, Vasundhara, reminded Sudama of his childhood friend Krishna. She requested him to satisfy him and to urge some help. 

But Sudama refused to travel only for help as he was a true devotee of Krishna and did not want himself to feel selfish as he was indeed a pure and spiritual Brahman.

Sudama finally agrees to travel to satisfy Lord Krishna. He left the place with some beaten rice tied with a fabric piece as he remembered that Krishna loved Beaten rice. 

Divine Promise of Krishna and Sudama  

Shree Krishna asked Sudama, “Will you be my friend?” How fortunate is that soul who the Lord Himself asks for Friendship! Sudama hesitated because he felt his low status.

He said, “But I am a poor Brahmin, and You are a royal; how can we ever be friends? Friends help one another in times of need, but there’s nothing I can offer you!”. Shree Krishna said, “Just promise me that regardless of anything, we will always be friends. I propose the offer as your friend. I will never ask you for something you can not give me.” Hearing this, Sudama accepted Shree Krishna’s offer of Friendship!

Sudama asked the gate guardians to let him enter to satisfy Lord Krishna as he reached Dwarka’s King’s palace. He also said that Krishna was his Childhood friend.

Even the Door guardian treated him like a madman, as his condition was so poor that his clothes were ripped. But he requested guardians to notify Krishna about his arrival. After numerous requests, guardians decided to ask Krishna about Sudama.

The Guardian told Krishna about Sudama’s arrival at the gate. Lord Krishna ran to the gate, leaving everything because He was eager to see His friend Sudama. Krishna was so pleased to ascertain his old friend.

He Hugged him on the road in front of everyone for much time without even thinking of the social status of Sudama. Even everyone was so shocked that poor Brahman was the ally of the King of Dwarka – Lord Krishna, which laid the new foundation of the word “Friendship” on the planet.

Sudama wanted to travel back from there only as he did not want Krishna to get insulted ahead of the public simply because of him. Still, Krishna stopped him and asked His guards to welcome Sudama into his Palace.

Krishna welcomed Sudama with a shower of flowers with much love. He washed Sudama’s feet with His hands to offer Godly treatment to Sudama.

Krishna asked His maids to get rid of all his ripped clothes of Sudama and alter them with royal clothes to make him feel more relaxed, and Sudama was crying seeing such unexpected royal treatment by his friend Krishna. Then Krishna offered a spread of food to Sudama served by His maidsThen Krishna offered a spread of food to Sudama served by, and Sudama was crying seeing such an unexpected royal treatment by his friend Krishna.

After food, Krishna and Sudama relaxed and discussed their old days. Krishna saw that Sudama was hiding something from him.

He asked gently, “And I feel that Bhabhi Ji has sent some gift for me. I feel it is some delicious food for me.” He requested Sudama to pull out the gift. Sudama hid it as he thought this small gift was nothing for the King of Dwaraka.

But Krishna accepted the gift gently, which was some rice tied to a piece of fabric, and Krishna praised tons for a present that this gift was the best present He had ever received in His life and began eating it and shared the rice with His wife Rukmini(incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi) too.

After some hours, Sudama decided to go back to his home. Before leaving, Krishna said, while discussing old memories, He even forgot to ask the rationale of a visit from Sudama.

He asked gently,” What was the rationale for visiting Dwarka (Krishna’s Palace)?” Sudama, after forgetting all the stress, replied gently. He cited to satisfy him. He does not have any demands from him. Sudama left the Palace with deep Devotion in his heart for Krishna.

Final Thoughts  

1. The story of Krishna and Sudama teaches us the real meaning and value of Friendship in this world. We must always help our friends irrespective of their financial status. Instead, Krishna stopped Sudama and hugged him publicly. That shows the immortal example of Friendship. That’s why they are remembered now whenever we speak about Friendship.

2. We should not Demand anything in reciprocation for our Devotion and Bhakti for God. Does God know better than us what we want and what we do not? We must trust God for everything, as everything happens by His choice. God creates a far better plan than us. Trust me. In Sudama’s Case, Krishna rewarded him with Money and Wealth even though Sudama did not ask for anything from Lord.

3. God Always rewards true people. You may be think Krishna rewarded Sudama simply  because he was his Childhood Friend. But that’s not correct. Krishna rewarded him because,  during his whole life, Sudama followed the Spirituality  trail and taught many others about religious duties. Krishna rewarded him simply because he was a good person, and God wanted him to continue this spiritual path with more energy and enthusiasm. It was the beauty of the promise of Krishna and Sudama.

कृष्ण और सुदामा की मित्रता

Moral hindi story of friendship.

कृष्ण और सुदामा के बीच बहुत घनिष्ट मित्रता थी। वे दोनों हर काम साथ में किया करते थे। चाहे

वह गोपियों की जल से भरी मटकी फोड़ना हो या माखन चुराना हो। दोनों बड़े हुये सब अपने

अपने काम में व्यस्त हो गये।

यहाँ एक ओर कृष्ण तो मथुरा के नरेश की गद्दी पर बैठ गये और दूसरी ओर सुदामा अपनी आर्थिक 

तंगी से जूझते रहे और भिक्षा मांग कर अपने परिवार का पालन पोषण करते रहे। सुदामा प्रायः अपनी

पत्नी को श्री कृष्ण और सुदामजी के बचपन के किस्से सुनाया करते थे।

श्री कृष्ण तो देवता की तरह मथुरा में पूजे जाते थे। सब उनको जानते थे । सुदामा की परेशानियाँ दिन

प्रतिदिन बढ़ती जा रही थी। जब वह दिन में भिक्षा मांगते थे। तब संध्या में उनके यहाँ भोजन बनता था।

कभी-कभी तो बच्चे रात में पानी पीकर भूखे ही सो जाते थे।

सुदामा की पत्नी अक्सर सुदामा जी से कहा करती थी, कि जाकर आप अपने मित्र कृष्ण से कोई मदद

क्यों नहीं मांगते तो सुदामा जी हमेशा उनको मना कर देते थे। एक दिन ऐसा आया उस दिन वे

कृष्ण के पास जाने को तैयार हो गये।

मित्र का उपहार  

उन्होंने अपनी पोटली में कुछ भुने हुये चावल लिये और अपने मित्र के पास जाने के लिये निकल पड़े

जब वह कृष्ण के महल के पास पहुंचे तो वहां खड़े दरबान से उन्होंने कहा भैया मुझे कृष्ण से मिलना

है। मै उनका मित्र हूँ ।

दरबान को सुदामा की वेशभूषा को देखकर लगा कि वह झूठ बोल रहा है तो उन्होंने कृष्ण जी को कोई

सूचना नहीं दी। वह कुछ देर वहां बैठे रहे और कुछ देर में उन्होंने फिर से कहा कि क्या आप मेरा सन्देश

श्री कृष्ण तक पहुंचा सकते है क्या ? कि उनका मित्र सुदामा उनसे भेट करने आया है।

तब दरबान अंदर गया और उसने श्री कृष्ण को सुदामा के बारे में बताया और जैसे ही कृष्ण  जी ने

सुदामा का नाम सुना तो वे बिना पादुका पहने ही ख़ुशी से उनसे मिलने को दौड़ पड़े। तो दरबान

देखकर दंग रह गया कि उससे गलती हो गयी जो उसने सुदामा को इतना इंतज़ार कराया।

श्री कृष्ण ने जैसे ही सुदामा को देखा तो उनको अपने गले से लगा लिया और कहा मित्र आज

आत्मा धन्य हो गयी। इतने दिनों बाद तुम्हारे दर्शन पाकर, सुदामा जी भी उनके प्यार भरे शब्दों को

सुनकर गदगद हो उठे। उनकी आँखों से आंसू आ गये।

सुदामा जी मन में सोचने लगे इतना प्यार तो केवल मुझे मेरा मित्र ही दे सकता है। कृष्ण जी

सुदामा को अंदर लेकर गये। उनका खूब सत्कार किया। फिर सुदामा ने अपनी झोली से वो चावल

संकोचवश उन्हें फिर अंदर रख लिया कि इतने बड़े साम्राज्य के मालिक के लिये यह तो एक तुच्छ

भेंट है पर भगवान कृष्ण  ने यह देख लिया और अपने मित्र से कहा – मेरे लिये  इतने स्नेह से जो लाये

हो वो मुझे देते क्यों नहीं, उस उपहार पर मेरा हक़ है। कृपा करके मुझे मेरा उपहार दे दो।

तब सुदामा ने चावल निकाले और अपने मित्र को दे दिये श्री कृष्ण अपना उपहार पाकर बड़े खुश

हुये। महल में उन्होंने सुदामा के सम्मान में कोई भी कमी न छोड़ी, उनके आने की ख़ुशी में कई तरह

के भोजन बनबाये और उनको प्रेमपूर्वक खिलाया।

मित्र का प्रेम

सुदामा जी दो चार दिन वहां रहे फिर बोले अब मैं अपने घर को जाऊंगा तो कृष्ण जी बोले मित्र कुछ दिन

और रुक जाते। इतनी जल्दी क्यों जा रहे हो क्या मुझसे कोई गलती हो गयी है ? तब सुदामा ने बड़े प्रेम से

अपने मित्र से कहा नहीं मित्र ऐसा नहीं है। मैं फिर कभी भी चला आऊंगा तुमसे मिलने।

सुदामा जी जाने लगे। उन्होंने अपनी आर्थिक स्थिति के बारे में कृष्ण को कुछ न कहा

और वह जाने लगे तो कृष्ण ने सम्मान आदर के साथ उनकी विदाई की। अब सुदामा जब वहां

से निकल गये तो वे सोचने लगे कि घर जाकर वे अपनी पत्नी से क्या कहेंगे।

फिर वे जैसे ही अपने घर के नज़दीक पहुँचने लगे तो उन्होंने देखा कि उस जगह पर कोई कुटिया ही

नहीं है। आसपास उन्होंने अपनी पत्नी  बच्चों को भी देखा पर कोई नज़र नहीं आया। अब सुदामा परेशान

हो गये कि मेरा परिवार कहाँ है इतने में ही उनकी पत्नी  ने महल के झरोंखे से सुदामा को देख लिया।

उनकी पत्नी  ने तुरंत अपने पुत्र को भेजा क्यों कि वह जानती थी ऐसे सुदामा जी अंदर नहीं आयेंगे और खुद

झरोखे पर खड़ी हो गयी तब पुत्र ने पिता को महल में आने के लिये कहा तो वे अंदर गये। वहां उनकी पत्नी  ने

उनके जाने के बाद का सारा वृतांत अपने पति को सुनाया। वह समझ गये ये कृष्ण की कृपा है।

तो सुदामा जी की आँखों में से आंसू झलक आये। उन्होंने सोचा मेरे कुछ न कहने पर भीं मेरे मित्र ने मेरे मन की

बात को पढ़ लिया। भला ऐसा मित्र किसका हो सकता है। मैं तो ऐसे मित्र को पाकर धन्य हो गया हूँ।

श्री कृष्ण  ने अपनी मित्रता का सुदामा को ऐसा परिचय दिया कि आज भी दुनियां उनकी मित्रता के

किस्से सुनाती है।

The Story of Krishna and Sudama & Friendship Lessons

The story of Sudama and Krishna has a great value in the Hindu world of legends. Not only just in the Bhagavata Purana or Srimad Bhagavatam but there are also many books where the story holds great importance. Sudama was a dear friend and a great devotee of Lord Krishna , if you don’t know.

Here we explore the legend behind the friendship of Sudama and Krishna.

The Legend of Sudama and Lord Krishna

Sudama came from a poor Brahmin family and was a dear friend of Krishna. As both grew up together, Krishna married Rukmini and then became the chief of Dwarka, while Sudama married a simple girl and enjoyed a simple life by leaving out worldly pleasures.

Sudama had two children, but he led a very austere life since he was poor. But his wife grew tired of the frugal life and asked him to seek help from Lord Krishna one day. However, Sudama felt ashamed of asking his friend for help. Sudama’s wife kept insisting. One fine day, he decided to meet Krishna to talk about this. Yet, he felt like meeting an old friend empty-handed would not be a good gesture. So, he took a handful of puffed rice for Lord Krishna.

When Sudama reached Krishna’s place, Krishna was delighted and welcomed Sudama with great respect and warmth. He even washed his tired feet with sandalwood and warm water to make him relax and let him sit on the throne.

Then, they started talking about their life in the early days when they were a child: how they were notorious in their place and how they spent their time at Sandipani’s School. Both felt overjoyed, especially Sudama, who felt the hospitality Krishna had shown and the effort he had shown to keep him happy.

The grandeur made Sudama feel embarrassed about his gift. But Krishna had seen the bag in his hand. Thus, he asked what he had in the bag, for which, Sudama replied by saying that it contained a handful of puffed rice. Krishna took the bag and ate a part of it, saying that it was the best thing he had ever had.

Krishna thanked Sudama for this gift and requested him to have a meal. Both of them sat for a meal served on expensive gold plates. Seeing this, Sudama felt sad about his childhood, how he had lived a hungry life most of his childhood days.

Sudama lived there at the palace for two days but could not ask for what he had come there for to get some help. He felt embarrassed to ask for a personal favor and thus, remained silent about it. He left back home on the third day. Before leaving, Krishna embraced Sudama and requested Sudama to visit him again. Sudama said thank you.

During the entire journey back home, he kept thinking about what he would tell his wife since he didn’t get anything back to alleviate his life in poverty.

But when he got home, he was surprised when he saw that there was no hut in his place. Instead, there was a magnificent palace. And when his wife came out, she was wearing elegant, beautiful clothes. Sudama’s wife said that maybe it was Krishna’s doing, that he had tried to help his friend.

Seeing all this, Sudama’s heart was filled with gratitude, and he started to cry.

Friendship lessons

Friendship never seeks richness or poorness. Friendship is forever. It is all about love and respect. Like Krishna and Sudama, one should never forget one’s friends and always respect them despite their conditions. If it is possible, one should try to help the friend. As the saying goes, a friend in need is the friend indeed.

Krishna Sudama – The Eternal Bond of Friendship

Sudama was among those devotees who were childhood friends with Krishna in His childhood. Krishna left Vrindavan at sixteen, and later He married and went on to live as King of Dwarka. Meanwhile Sudama was living as a Brahman, which means one who knows that the real self is spirit and who dedicates his life to being a spiritual guide for the whole society.

Sudama was also a householder, but he was not busy in accumulating wealth for very comfortable living. Whatever income came to him without difficulty, he accepted. He engaged his time in the service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus showed himself to be perfect in knowledge. Externally Sudama appeared very poor because he had no rich attire and could not provide rich clothing for his wife. In fact they were not even eating sufficiently, and they were both very thin.

Often Sudama’s wife used to address her husband, “My dear lord, I know that Lord Krishna, the Supreme Lord of all the universes , is your personal friend. You are also a devotee of the Lord, and He is always ready to help His devotee. Moreover, Lord Krishna is always in favor of the brahmanas. Krishna is your friend, and persons like you have no other shelter but Krishna. You are saintly, learned and in control of your senses. Please, therefore, go to Him in Dwarka. I am sure that He will understand your impoverished condition.

Sudama, however, thought there to be no need to ask material benefit from Lord Krishna. But one time when she made this request, Sudama thought, “If I do go there, I shall be able to see the Lord personally. That will be a great opportunity, even if I don’t ask any material benefit from Him.” So he told his wife that he would go and that she should at once prepare some foodstuff that he could offer as a presentation to his friend.

Sudama’s wife had nothing in the house, but she went out and collected some chipped rice, which is the lowest grade of rice, from her neighbors, and she tied it up in a handkerchief. Sudama took the presentation and started at once toward Dwarka. As a devotee, he was always thinking of Krishna, and now he became absorbed in the thought that he would soon be able to see the Lord.

The Dwarka palace where Krishna lived was not accessible to anyone and everyone, for it was a king’s palace and was guarded all around. Saintly persons, however, were allowed to enter, and Sudama passed through three military camps and many gates until he finally entered the residential quarters of Krishna.

At that time Lord Krishna was sitting with His Queen Rukmini , but when He saw His friend Sudama coming, the Lord got up and went forward to receive him, and He embraced him feelingly.

He sprinkled the water used to wash the Brahman’s feet on His own head, as if for purification. He welcomed the Brahmana in many ways, giving him food and drink and saying, “My dear friend, it is great fortune that you have come here.”

Seating Sudama on His own cushioned bed, Krishna said, “My dear friend, you are most intelligent and know very well the principles of religious life. I know that after you finished your education at the house of our spiritual master you went back to your home and accepted a suitable wife. I know very well that from the very beginning you were never attached to the materialistic way of life, nor did you desire to be very opulent materially.”

“My dear friend,” Krishna said, “I think you may remember our activities during the days when we were living as students. You may remember that once we went to collect fuel from the forest on the order of the guru’s wife. While we were collecting the dried wood, we by chance entered the dense forest and became lost. There was an unexpected dust storm and then clouds and lightning in the sky and the explosive sound of thunder. Then sunset came, and we were lost in the dark jungle.

“After this, there was severe rainfall; the whole ground was over flooded with water, and we could not trace out the way to return to our guru’s house. You may remember that heavy rainfall—it was not actually rainfall but a sort of devastation. On account of the dust storm and the heavy rain, we began to feel greatly pained, and in whichever direction we turned we were bewildered. In that distressed condition, we took each other’s hand and tried to find our way out.

“We passed the whole night in that way, and early in the morning when our absence became known to our guru, he sent his other disciples to search us out. He also came with them, and when they reached us in the jungle they found us to be very distressed.

“With great compassion our guru said, ‘My dear boys, it is very wonderful that you have suffered so much trouble for me. Everyone likes to take care of his body as the first consideration, but you are so good and faithful to your spiritual master that without caring for bodily comfort you have taken so much trouble for me. I am glad to see that bona fide students like you will undergo any kind of trouble for the spiritual master. That is the way for a bona fide disciple to become free from his debt to the spiritual master. It is the duty of the disciple to dedicate his life to the service of the spiritual master.

“‘My dear blessed ones, I am greatly pleased by your action, and I bless you: May all your desires and ambitions be fulfilled. May the understanding of the scriptures which you have learned from me always continue to remain within your memory so that at every moment you can remember the teachings and quote their instructions without difficulty? Thus you will never be disappointed in this life or in the next.’”

Krishna continued, “My dear friend, you may remember that many such incidents occurred while we were in the house of our spiritual master Both of us can realize that without the blessing of the spiritual master one cannot be happy. By the mercy of the spiritual master and by his blessing one can achieve peace and prosperity and be able to fulfill the mission of human life.”

Lord Krishna talked a long time with His friend Sudama. Then, just to enjoy His friend’s company, He began to smile and asked, “My dear friend, what have you brought for me? Has your wife given you some nice eatables?”

Sudama hesitated out of shyness to bring forth the chipped rice. The Lord assured him that He was in need of nothing, but that He would gladly accept any offering given in love.

“How can I offer such an insignificant thing?” thought Sudama. But the Lord knew his heart. He knew very well, since He is situated in everyone’s heart, that the Brahmana had come to see Him on the instigation of his wife to get some material opulence. Moreover, He knew fully well that Sudama’s love for Him was not tainted by any desire for material benefit. Krishna then decided He would very lavishly award Sudama.

“What is this?” Lord Krishna snatched the bundle of chipped rice, which was tucked in a corner of Sudama’s shoulder pack. “Oh My dear friend,” Krishna went on enthusiastically, “you’ve brought me such nice palatable chipped rice. It will please not only me but the whole creation.” It is understood from this statement that Krishna, being the original source of everything, is the root of the entire creation. As watering the root of a tree immediately distributes water to every part of the tree, so an offering made to Krishna or any action done for Krishna is to be considered the highest welfare work for everyone. The benefit of such an offering is distributed throughout the creation.

While speaking in this way, Lord Krishna ate a morsel of the rice, but when He attempted to eat a second morsel, Rukmini, the goddess of fortune , checked the Lord by taking hold of His hand.

“My dear Lord,” she said, “by your taking this one piece of rice Sudama will become wealthy not only in this life but in the next. You are so kind that this one morsel of rice is enough to cause him who offered it to become very opulent in this life and continue as such in the next.” Rukmini, the goddess of fortune, was already personally obliged to stay as a guest in the Brahman’s house in order to bestow him with great fortune.

Sudama did not appear to have received anything from Krishna, nor did he ask anything; the whole time he was merged in an ocean of transcendental bliss. After taking rest that night in the palace, the next morning he started for his home. He was completely absorbed in remembering the dealings with the Lord, and he was happy to have seen Him.

Sudama reached his home. But when he looked for his cottage he saw in its place a huge, gorgeous palace made of valuable stones and jewels and glittering like the sun.

“What is this?” he thought. “How am I seeing these changes? Does this palace belong to me or to someone else? Surely this is where I used to live—it is the same place—but how wonderfully it has changed!” Then one dazzling opulence and beauty after another was revealed to Sudama Brahmana. His old neighborhood had become transformed into an area of parks with nice lakes full of lotus flowers and lilies and flocks of multicolored birds. Beautiful men and women were strolling in the parks and musical chanters who looked like demigods came forward to greet him. On hearing of her husband’s arrival, the wife of the Brahmana ran out of the palace to greet him. She appeared so beautiful that it seemed as if the goddess of Fortune herself had come to meet him. The Brahmana was surprised to see his wife so beautiful and so greatly affectionate, and without saying a word he entered the palace with her. His inner chambers were like the residence of the king of heaven. The palace was surrounded by many columns of jewels, rich canopies of velvet and silk hung in various places, and everything was opulent.

He could not determine what had caused the change, but then he began to consider: “I have always been poor—what could be the cause of this? It could only have come from the all-merciful glance of my friend, Lord Krishna. Surely these things are the causeless mercy of my friend Krishna.” Sudama could understand that the Lord considered such an insignificant offering as a handful of chipped rice, offered in affection by His devotee, a great thing and that He had given him riches more wonderful than any seen on earth, or even possessed by the demigods in the heavenly planets.

Sudama then offered his prayers to Krishna, praying that he did not want any opulence. He prayed that all he wanted was that he might not forget to offer eternal service to Krishna. Whatever opulence he received from the Lord should not be used for his own extravagance but for the service of the Lord, and so he accepted everything that happened as prasada (God’s mercy).

Anything which we receive from the Lord—any facility, wealth, fame, power or education—should thus be used for His service and not for our sense enjoyment. In that way, Sudama remained in opulent surroundings without detriment to his spiritual life, and his affection for Krishna increased day after day. He was made more aware of his friend at every moment and of the Lord’s mercy.

Sudama was a poor Brahmin and the best childhood friend of Lord Krishna. He was unable to make things better for his family. His family fed on alms he collected. He was physically disabled, too, and could not work.

The days were not merciful to him. He was unable to gather square meals for his children either. His wife suggested going to Lord Krishna and asking for help. Sudama was not a man to ask a favor from his friend. Despite being reluctant, he decided to go.

His wife borrowed a bowl of rice from the neighbor as a gift for Lord Krishna. She cooked it and told Sudama to give it to his friend.

Lord Krishna Couldn’t Wait

Sudama started his journey barefoot and reached the palace. It was huge and could be seen from a long distance. He was happy for Lord Krishna.

He went to the main gate and asked the guards to let him enter. He was in a tattered condition. The guards did not let him. He pleaded with them to at least tell Lord Krishna that his friend Sudama was here to meet.

The guards did not believe that Lord Krishna could be his friend. They entered the palace and told Lord Krishna that a poor Brahmin named Sudama was waiting.

Lord Krishna pranced from his throne, leaving the royal court, and ran barefoot to meet his friend.

When he saw Sudama in such a condition, he cried. He carried him to the palace and washed Sudama’s feet with his hands.

Sudama gave him the rice he brought as a gift. Lord Krishna was so happy that his friend brought him a gift. He ate it all.

They talked the whole day and shared lighter moments. The next day, Sudama bid goodbye to his childhood friend but could not say why he was there. He felt very bad for asking for help.  He returned empty-handed and was sad.

The Surprise

In this story of Sri Krishna Kuchela Friendship , when Sudama reached his home, he could not find it. It was not there. He was sure that his home address was where he was standing. To his surprise, his wife and children came outside in good dresses from a palace.

When he was not there, Lord Krishna had made a palace for his family. He hailed his friend and realized how friends could understand each other without saying a word.

For the suffering man, tired with the constant striving for sensual gratification, pricked by the arrows of desire, the only source of peace is to immerse himself in the ocean of stories narrating the spiritual adventures of Lord Krishna. Indeed the Shrimad Bhagavatam says: ‘True speech is only the one that sings the glory of Krishna. Only those hands can be called hands that arise in the service of God. Only that mind is worthy of its name which contemplates on Him who abides in the hearts of all creatures. Only those ears are ears that listen to the sacred stories of Krishna. The head justifies its name only when it bows before both the moving and the unmoving forms of the Lord. Only those can be truly called eyes that see God everywhere.

Spanning the larger part of the twentieth century, the biography of Jiddu Krishnamurti1 (1895-1986) seems like a tale told by the fireplace, fit for a book of ancient legends, or, as some would insist, a new testament. Diverging from the course his mentors planned for him, the guru who refused to be a guru is revered by many in the contemporary Western spiritual milieu. It seems that his very reluctance to play the part designed for him, as well as his personal rebellion against the authority of his guides and supervisors, only endear him all the more to those who see him as a great spiritual teacher. What was the point at which Krishnamurti’s life fundamentally changed its course and what happened to him at that time? In this chapter, I analyze the crisis that led Krishnamurti not only to depart from the Theosophical Society’s leadership but also to change the character of his spiritual path and teachings radically. I will present not only the biographical forces that led Krishnamurti to that moment but also the social and ideational preconditions that allowed him to adopt a completely divergent religious worldview, one opposite in many ways to the one in which he had been raised.

The union is the convergence of physical and spiritual worlds, reason and matter, soul and body, flesh and Spirit. People want to coexist with the allencompassing Spirit known as Brahman, or God. The paper begins with defining the basic concepts and ideas of spiritual union according to the seventeenth-century metaphysical poets George Herbert, a British, and Tukaram, an Indian, followed by a short description of Christian and Hindu tradition. While Herbert explains being united with the Almighty without losing one's identity as a creature, Tukaram points out that to be in union with the Lord is to lose one's identity and become one in the Lord. Thus, this study explores the vast array of mystical experiences and sentiments of divine connection found in their poetry. It delves into their deep cultural and religious traditions, emphasising the significance of love, surrender, adoration, and the transformative influence of the divine presence in their poetic works. This paper highlights a deeper awareness of the intricacies of human spirituality and various paths that lead to the intimate relationship with the Divine by pointing to the similarities and distinctiveness in their poetry. It further encourages investigating profound spiritual communication and relationship with the divine through different traditions.

Krishna And Sudama | Epic Tale Of True Friendship And Humbleness

Lord Krishna's tales are legendary - from his childhood pranks to battlefield wisdom.   Lord Krishna's idols   depict varied facets - playful cowherd, wise advisor, compassionate friend.

But perhaps, one of his sweetest tales can be ascribed to that of Krishna and Sudama, an epic tale of friendship and humbleness.

Our culture regards friendship as a high point and Lord Krishna starting from his childhood was seen helping, saving, and being around his friends.

His love for his friends was a truly ethereal bond and one such famous legend is that of Krishna and Sudama. Spoken to date as an example of friendship, the story of these two friends stood strong the test of time and fate.

Krishna And Sudama's Story of True Friendship

Who was sudama.

Krishna and Sudama were friends since they were young. Both of them learned from the same teacher and were best friends.

While they had promised each other to be in touch after they were done with school, they had to part ways owing to time.

Years later,   after   krishna left vrindavan , He became the king of Dwaraka and married Rukmini. Sudama, on the other hand, became a pandit and married a girl whose parents chose for him.

Sudama was in great despair as he was poverty-stricken and could not support his family. Due to his ailing body, he could not work to feed them either. The days didn't treat him well.

Knowing the seriousness of their situation, Sudama’s wife said that he should ask Lord Krishna for help.

Sudama, however, was hesitant as he was not the type of person to ask a friend for help. Even though he didn't want to, he chose to go.

Lord Krishna And Sudama Childhood Friendship

The famous story about Lord Krishna and his childhood friend Sudama teaches us the true meaning of friendship. Sudama was a poor man living with his wife, struggling to make ends meet.

When they were at their worst, Sudama's wife suggested he visit Lord Krishna, who was then a king, to seek help.

Sudama hesitated, feeling uncomfortable about his poverty. However, his wife convinced him that Krishna was a kind king and would definitely help them.

Sudama's Journey To Dwaraka

Sudama embarked on the journey to Krishna's palace, carrying a small bag with the last bit of rice as a humble offering.

When he reached the palace gates, the guards were skeptical of his identity, but they informed Lord Krishna about his old friend Sudama.

Upon hearing this, Lord Krishna rushed to embrace Sudama, his oldest friend. He noticed Sudama's bleeding feet, as he had walked barefoot due to his poverty.

Once inside the palace, Krishna insisted that Sudama sits on his throne and personally washed his feet.

Joyfully, Lord Krishna asked Sudama what gift he had brought for him. Sudama showed the small bag of rice, explaining that it was all he could offer.

Lord Krishna, aware of Sudama's circumstances, ecstatically started eating the rice. After consuming two handfuls, Lord Krishna's wife, Rukmini, intervened and suggested that he leave some for the others.

Aftermath of Sudama and Krishna's Reunion

After the visit, Sudama returned home, worried about his future and how his wife would react. To his astonishment, he found that his humble hut had transformed into a magnificent palace.

Lord Krishna, without any request, had bestowed great wealth upon Sudama while he was enjoying the rice.

Each handful of rice represented the wealth of different realms, signifying Krishna's desire to make Sudama the lord of two worlds. He wanted to give him the third world as well.

The story of Krishna and Sudama shows very well what real friendships are all about. Even though time had passed and their lives were different, they were still close and remembered their bond.

When Sudama came to see Krishna, he was so happy that he hugged him with love and kindness. Even though Sudama's gift was small, Krishna loved it.

This touching story shows us that true friendship is more important than money and that acts of kindness and humility can change people's lives.
