As humans , all of us live in a society are bound to a neighbourhood. It is an essential place which has a great impact on our lives. So much so that it does determine where we are in life and how we are doing. It is a fact that if we are not happy in our neighbourhood, we will not live peacefully. Through my neighborhood essay, I will explain about my neighbourhood and the reasons why I love it.

All About My Neighbourhood

I live in a great neighbourhood. It is wonderful because it offers us a lot of facilities. The green park near my house makes the area much more beautiful. Similarly, the swings in the park ensure the kids get to play cheerfully all day long.

Moreover, my neighbourhood also has many other bonuses. A grocery store adjacent to the park makes sure people get all their needs fulfilled without having to go far. All my neighbours buy their things from that grocery store only.

The owner also lives in the same area so he is very cordial with everyone. The grocery store saves everyone a long trip to the market and also their time. The park in my neighbourhood remains clean at all times.

The maintenance team makes sure they clean and sanitize it from time to time. It allows my neighbours to sit and relax in the evenings and take walks in the morning. The clean and fresh air gives everyone a great experience.

Why I Love My Neighbourhood

Apart from the top-notch facilities available in my neighbourhood, we also have amazing neighbours who make our lives better. A good neighbourhood is not made of facilities only but good people as well.

I got lucky in this case because my neighbours are very sweet. They help in maintaining the peace of the area so everyone lives in harmony. I have seen very often that if there is an emergency at anyone’s place, everyone rushes to help.

Similarly, we also organize events from time to time so that the whole neighbourhood gathers and enjoy themselves. I have a lot of friends in my neighbourhood with whom I play.

Most of them are my age so we meet every evening to cycle together and play on swings. We also go to each other’s birthday parties and sing and dance. The most favourite thing about my neighbourhood is definitely the residents.

I always notice how we never let any poor person go back empty-handed. My neighbourhood also organizes a donation drive every year. In this, each family donates clothes, toys and other useful commodities for the needy.

Thus, we all live together as a large family. Even though we live in different houses, our hearts are bounded by the same love and respect for each other.

People in my neighborhood have different backgrounds, cultures and different traditions. There are families with small children, older couples and people of different ethnicity and religions. Despite these differences of religion, cast and creed, everyone here treats each other with great respect and tolerance, and they come always together to celebrate various holidays and festivals.

One of the most memorable experiences that, I have had in my neighborhood was the annual summer party. Every year, neighbors would gather on the street, grill food, play games, and socialize with one another. It was an opportunity to catch up with people we may not have seen in a while and meet new neighbors. The block party was a way for everyone in the neighborhood to come together and strengthen our community bonds.

A Neighbour is the family or people living near our house. They may live immediately beside us or maybe a little away. They play an essential role in our lives. My neighbour consists of a family of 10 people. It is a joint family. The family consists of grandparents, two couples and four children. They are very well off, and both the brothers run the same family business. Three out of four children study in my school, whereas one is a toddler. The family is very helpful and is always cheerful. Their grandparents go for morning and evening walks with my grandparents. I play with their children every day in the evening. Many times we come back home together. Sometimes my mother picks us back from school, and sometimes their mother does the same. They always participate in our family functions as we do in theirs. They are really helpful neighbors and a blessing in our lives.

It is always good to have a good neighbour because they are the first people who you go to whenever you are too happy or sometimes in need of something. Our next-door neighbours are the Tanejas, whose family consists of grandparents, parents and two children. The grandparents are retired medical professionals, whereas the parents, i.e. the son and the daughter-in-law, are successful entrepreneurs. They are very kind and generous. They never show off their wealth. Whenever they are available, they call us for tea and coffee get-togethers, and whenever we get a chance, we invite them for snack parties and get-togethers.

I remember how difficult the times were when the pandemic hit the world in 2020. Their family helped us a lot with our medical needs. I was also suffering from symptoms of COVID, so they consoled my parents and helped them in the best possible way they could and prescribed me medications. Instead of creating chaos they helped me during quarantine, supplied me with necessary medicines and arranged an oxygen cylinder beforehand so that it could be used wherever it was required, as I had breathing problems for three days. I am thankful to God for blessing us with such wonderful neighbours.

A good neighbour is a found treasure. Neighbours are the ones who share our joys and sorrows, making our lives easier. When we have a good relationship with our neighbours, they are the first to stand by us in need. A good neighbour will always be ready to help you anytime and in any situation. It is always a boon to have a good neighbour.

Sharma stays to the left of our house. They are kind and sweet people. It took a little time to get connected to them at first, but with time we got attached to them. They are a small happy family of six members. Every single member of the family is very sweet. It's been almost seven years since we moved here. Since then, we have celebrated all the festivals together and enjoyed every occasion. The grandma next door always sends me homemade ladoos, and the kids, Sonu and Dolly are absolute sweethearts, and they love playing with our pets every time they come home. Sharma uncle is really a very good person. He is a professor at the University, and aunty is an excellent cook. She is a homemaker.

My mom and sharma aunty love to share their cooking recipes and delicious dishes. I really like her palak paneer and naan, and she never forgets to send it to me whenever she cooks it. They really help us every time we need them. Once my grandpa broke his spectacle, he was home alone; I was too small at the time to help him. He called Sharma uncle for help, and he immediately helped my grandfather to get it fixed. Their grandma next door is a very sweet and cheerful lady. I have hardly ever seen such an amazing personality at the age of 85. She, too, is a retired University professor. I always have a great time talking to her. She shares her personal life experiences from her college days. Also, she shares about the real-life struggles a person faces when they pass out of school and then college. She helps a lot in my mathematics lessons. She teaches many things to my mother, too, as if she is her own daughter. She taught my mother to make pickles and jams and also taught her preservation techniques. She treats my grandmother like her daughter, and most of the time, they are found talking and going for walks together. Both of them are very fond of Bhajans, and they go to the nearby temple with their friends.

We have been celebrating almost all the festivals together. We both invite each other to birthdays, anniversaries and on various other occasions. The best part about our neighbours is they are not at all jealous or intrusive about our matters. It isn't easy to get good neighbours today as some are really curious about your household, whereas some are not even interested in helping you with your needs. Anyone can buy a good house, but a good neighbour is priceless.

Introduction

We live in a nuclear family. My father works in an IT firm and my mother is a teacher. I do not have any siblings nor do we have any relatives in the city. We visit my grandparents and cousins only during the summer vacation.

I felt quite lonely when we shifted here initially. However, I soon met Meera, my new neighbour. I was overjoyed to know that she was the same age as me. We were both eight at that time. I got along well with her from the very beginning. We connected very well and I started feeling really better. I was no longer lonely or sad.

Our Bond with our New Neighbour

Just like I became friends with Meera, my mother got along well with her mother. Meera’s mother is a housewife. My mother and she often have evening tea together. We look forward to such days as it allows us to play at each other’s place. We get a chance to play with different toys and games.

On other days, we go together to the park. We play different outdoor games, take swings and enjoy a lot. We also joined the same summer camp during our last vacation. The camp was for three hours daily during the weekdays. We indulged in many activities such as art and craft, dance, music and board games during this time.

The kids, on the other hand, played together for hours. The women in the neighbourhood often went together to the market. They helped each other with household chores. My experiences with my neighbours.

We live in a society. There are eight families on each floor. There are several floors and many towers in society. This makes it a big neighbourhood. The residential welfare association of our society is very active. They make sure we all celebrate various festivals together. Big events are organized at different festivals. This brings all the neighbours close and helps them bond well. I have had some really good experience living in this neighbourhood but some incidents have not been so good.

Some Good Experiences with My Neighbours

We are on good terms with most of the families living on our floor. My parents understand the importance of maintaining a cordial relationship with the neighbours and thus make an effort to bond with them.

One of the lady living on our floor is very good friend with my grandmother. They both visit the temple during the evening hours. During winter afternoons they sit in the park and knit. My mother often invites her home so that the two elderly ladies can spend time together.

I also have two very good friends in my neighbour. I go with them to the park every evening. We play together as our mothers sit and chat with each other. We also visit each other’s place to play. I feel great to have good friends in my neighbourhood especially because it makes the vacation time a lot more fun. My parents are working. They both go to work in the morning and return only by evening. I stay with my grandparents during the day.

Since they are old they cannot play with me. But they do allow me to call my neighbourhood friends home or let me go there for a few hours after I study for some time. The company of my neighbourhood friends makes my vacations super fun and exciting. I go swimming and cycling with them during the evening hours. The mother of one of my neighbourhood friends accompanies us as we go for such activities.

We exchange gifts with our neighbours on the occasion of Diwali and New Year. We also have lunch or dinner together to celebrate these occasions.

Some Bad Experiences with My Neighbours

While some of our neighbours are really sweet and stand by us in our good and bad times, unfortunately, we also have some troublesome neighbours. We have had our share of bad experiences when it comes to neighbours. Three girls have rented an apartment on our floor. They often play loud music during the late evening hours. This disrupts our sleep. We also have a hard time studying during this time.

We have requested them to keep the volume low many times. But it seems like they do not bother about others. Another one of our neighbours is quite weird. It is a family of four – two kids and their parents. We have tried to approach them and be friends with them. However, it seems like their parents want them to maintain distance from us. They often behave rudely and do not bond well with anyone on the floor.

It is great to have good neighbours. However, not everyone has this privilege. I am glad to have some really nice people in my neighbourhood.

We need to relocate to a new place every few years because of my father’s job. It is difficult to adjust to the new atmosphere. It takes time to adapt to new surroundings and people. However, we have been lucky so far when it comes to neighbours. We have always had good neighbours.

The Old Lady in Our Neighbourhood

We shifted to Lucknow when I was five years old. I really loved that place. We stayed there for three years and I made some really fond memories of that place. I loved our single storey house with a small front lawn, I loved the delicious delicacies of the place, I loved our weekend excursions but most of all I loved my family’s bonding with the old lady in our neighbourhood. Her name was Mrs. Shukla who’s son was preparing for the JEE from best IIT coaching of Lucknow .

She stayed just next to our house and we connected with her very well. I have a faint memory of her coming to our house on the very first day we shifted. She prepared tea and snacks for us and welcomed us to the neighbourhood. We felt at home at once. She sat in her front lawn and knitted sweaters during winter afternoons. My mother often joined her to learn some knitting techniques. She once knitted a small blue sweater for my doll. I was overjoyed to receive it.

Many times when my parents went shopping, they left us at Mrs. Shukla’s place. She took very good care of us. Her grandchildren visited her during the summer vacations. We looked forward to that time as we got along really well with those kids. We often invited them to our place and played all day long. Many times, we also went to their place and it was great fun.

The Punjabi Family in Our Neighbourhood

When I was eight years old, we shifted to Chandigarh. It is a beautiful city. It is very well planned with lovely houses and surroundings. We rented an apartment in a good locality. The atmosphere of the place was quite pleasing and so were our neighbours. Our next door neighbours were a Punjabi family. It was a joint family. There were a total of seven members in the family. Their daughter was almost the same age as mine and I got along really well with her. She often came over to our place during the evening and we played for hours.

Sometimes, we went together to the park to take swings and play badminton. She had two brothers who were older than my brother but very friendly. They always called my brother to play cricket with them. My brother looked forward to playing with them. My mother also became very good friends with their mother. They both went shopping together. They often exchanged recipes and chatted for hours. The two years we spent in Chandigarh were really fun. It would not be wrong to say that the Punjabi family living in our neighbourhood made it even more fun.

The Gujrati Couple

I also cherish the one year we spent in Indore. I was eleven years old when we shifted to this city. It was quite different from the cities I had lived in earlier. A Gujarati couple lived in our neighbourhood. They had bought an apartment close to ours just a few days before we shifted.

So, even they were busy unpacking and decorating their place at the time we shifted. The place was as new to them as it was for us. So, the lady often went out to explore the nearby places with my mother. She cooked delicious curries and often gave us some portion. I loved her warm and friendly nature. Her husband was also very polite and helpful.

Good neighbours enrich our childhood experiences. I am glad we have had some really nice ones. I hope we continue to meet such beautiful and helpful people in the future as well.

You could also be asked to talk about your neighbourhood in an interview or in an English conversation.

No matter where the subject may appear, talking about your neighbourhood in English should come very easy to you. You are talking about the place where you live and your surroundings, so this should come naturally to you.

But let’s go through all the steps so that you can talk about your neighbourhood fluently and with ease.

Bus Stop — If I need to get into town, I have to take a bus. But there is a bus stop just down the road from my house.

Subway Station — There is a subway station in my neighbourhood. I take the subway to go to work every morning.

Cafe/Coffee Shop — I like to go to this coffee shop in my neighbourhood. They serve really great coffee all day, and it’s a nice place to sit down and read.

Restaurant — There’s a restaurant in my neighbourhood. It’s not exactly five stars, but the food they serve is very reasonably priced.

Clinic — We have a clinic just down the road. The doctors there are very helpful.

Hospital — There is a great hospital in my neighbourhood. I have not been there, but my grandfather had to go there recently.

Community Centre — We are very lucky to have a community centre nearby. They have free classes to learn different subjects. I go there for my yoga class.

Church — There’s a small church in my neighbourhood. I haven’t been inside, but on a Sunday morning, I always hear the church bells ringing.

Bakery — I love to eat freshly baked bread in the morning. And we are lucky in that we have a great baker in our neighbourhood. He always bakes fantastic bread first thing in the morning.

Gym — I go to my local gym about four times a week. It’s a great gym in our local community.

Shopping Centre/Mall — We have a shopping centre in our neighbourhood. It’s not very big, but it’s perfect for all of our needs. A few restaurants, a coffee shop and some other stores. Plus, there is a big supermarket.

Fire Station — We have a fire station in our neighbourhood. I have never seen a fire in our area, but it’s nice to know that we are protected if there is.

School — There’s a big high school in our area. That’s where I go to school.

Bank — We have a small bank in our community. There are only two tellers on duty — and one ATM — but it’s enough for the local people.

Grocery Store — There is a grocery store just down the road from my house. The man that owns it sells fresh vegetables and fruit.

Library — We have a small library nearby. They have a good selection of books and they also have computers for people to use and go online.

We live in a high-rise building downtown. Inside our apartment, it is pretty quiet. But once you go downstairs and on to the street, it gets pretty busy. There is always a big crowd of people milling around on the street. Plus, there are many shops, so there are lots of people going in and out of the shops.

We live near to this huge park. It’s great as we have two dogs and we can take the dogs to the park so they can run around. The other neighbours also take their dogs to the park and it can be a wonderful sight to see all the dogs playing and running with each other.

Talking about your neighbourhood should be easy. It is the place where you live, so you should have plenty to say about it.

This is a task-based lesson to help you teach about your neighborhood

The teacher gives students a balloon with a strip of paper inside, the strip of paper has a place from a neighborhood.
The teacher plays a song and students pass around the balloon, when the music stops, the student with the balloon in his/her hands pops it.
The students read the strip of paper with the place from a neighborhood and he/ she does mimics so their classmates guess the place around town he/she is referring to.
Teacher asks their students to turn on the cellphones, he sends a quizlet se t using the whatsapp group.
The quizlet is made up of places around town in one side and a picture that represents the place on the other side.
Students using the quizlet, check the spelling and pronunciation of 15 words included there.
Once they finished reviewing the vocabulary, they stand up and quiz each other by showing the picture include in the quizlet set and asking their partners “ what’s this?”

Teacher uses technology at home so students use it in the classroom. If we want to integrate technology in the classroom, both teachers and students need to use it.
Almost all tasks require that students stand up and interact with others.
Most tasks are learner-centered tasks in which we can see students doing collaborative work and having peer to peer interaction.
Since tasks are teacher-centered, a teacher can take notes without interrupting the interaction that students are having, he/ she can assess and provide feedback at the end of the class.
Since the class lasts around 45 mins, the teacher focuses on 15 words and part of an structure that students can manage easily.
Grammar is taught inductively through short texts.
There is no lengthy explanation about grammar and introduction of vocabulary. Quizlet helps with spelling, pronunciation and meaning.
All tasks use pretty much the same vocabulary and definitely the same structure.

My Neighborhood

Dumb Wires and Dumber Friends

So, I live in a neighborhood like anyone else. I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters. I also have 2 pets. I usually spend my time walking the dog and feeding the cat. When I can’t do that though, I usually hang out with my friends. Two of them are dumb though because they love to mess with wires. I know my friends and I do dumb stuff they they are even more dumb because they even put wires in their mouths. One time, they attempted to put a wire in their mouths when someone turned on the electricity. They got shocked and had to go to the hospital, but if they didn’t get shocked at that time, they would have been dead right now. One of the many things we have that a normal town doesn’t have is a nuclear bunker, a new area near our town (which I think it is called area 377), and an abandoned church. The reason why the new area is being set up by our town is because they said that there might be aliens in the church, but I, and everyone else in the town don’t believe them.

The nearest city to our town is 25 miles away. We also have emergency bunkers just in case someone comes inside our house to kill us. My friends and I were going to the old fence that marks the border of our town. We then dared each other to go outside the fence. So, the reason why they put a fence to mark the border of where our town ends is because my town is government owned. If we jump out of the town, we will get shot. Once, a boy by the age of ten hopped the fence and five seconds later, we heard gunshots. He was never seen again. His mother cried for three months and almost died from dehydration. We are experiments to them and our grandparents volunteered to go, so people don’t help the elderly. The dumbest of us hopped the fence and hopped back. Then, the other dumb guy dared us to hop the fance for fifteen seconds and stay there even when they are spotted. We left him there to do it himself and he started to cry. That is one of the reasons he’s one of the dumbest in the group. We have twenty in our group and won every fight in the neighborhood.

We are now about to fight the biggest group in the neighborhood near us. That would mean that we will increase our number if we win. If they win though, some of our group members would leave. It probably won’t be any harm though because the dumbest are the most likely to leave in our group. The leader of our group took martial arts, jiu-jitsu, and kung fu. He knows other combat skills, but I don’t really know the names of them. I’m trying to surpass him, so I learned jiu- jitsu and martial arts, and right now I’m learning kung fu. I’m also increasing my knowledge about jiu-jitsu so that I could surpass my leader just incase combat moves that we know isn’t all he has. So, now we’re at the battlefield, about to fight with the other group. The leaders of our group settle this as combat only, which means we can’t bring any weapons. We then begin the fight. I take down four of the opposite team’s members and I keep going, trying to look for their leader in the crowd. I soon found him after I take down seven more with my jiu-jitsu skills. I then get his attention and he comes running at me. I then expect to take him down with my skills, but only using kung-fu, he took me down without a sweat. I got a concussion from that, but I still got up. The people that took that as an opportunity got taken down fast by me. I then attempted to take down as many people as possible. I knew that I would have to get better.

I summoned all my rage and used it against the opposite team. I wasn’t happy at all. I screamed as I took down the enemies. I became blinded by rage that I accidentally started to beat up my teammates. My team got pissed off with me and fought back. One though, was wise enough to know how angry I was and backed off. We continued to fight until almost everyone was too beaten up to continue. I found out that the leader of our group was fighting the leader of the other group. I walked to my house unharmed and sat in the chair outside my porch to see the rest of the fight. Our leader then beat the other guy down till he was hospitalized. We had won the fight. The few people still sanding cheered until they were exhausted. They then went back inside. I was glad, but somewhat disappointed. I had expected our leader to go down the same way, but yet he looked like he didn’t waste any effort in almost killing the opposite group’s leader. He looked pissed though so I didn’t say anything to him. There are some people who know about my intentions of beating our leader and becoming the leader myself. They informed me of the combat skills he knows so that I could make sure to learn them too. I could keep track of how many skills he knows though so I put them all on a piece of paper hidden inside my house just incase. My leader has been suspicious of what I do, so I’ve been avoiding him lately. He has noticed that I have been avoiding him lately and now he’s really suspicious. He was surprised that I didn’t attack him in the fight, but I know not to attack him now. Every fight we have against another group prepares me even more. When the day comes, I’ll kick him out. While I was busy thinking, we heard the ringing of a bell. The whole town went quiet.

Everyone looked at the direction the sound was coming from. The church. Some people started to panic while everyone else seemed frozen. Our group decided to investigate the noise. If someone was inside, they would have been caught and arrested because that is a forbidden area, but no one was inside. Some people started to hop the fence, but a few seconds later, we heard gunshots and knew that they will never come back. We decided the only way we would find out the cause of this noise is if we went inside. We opened the door and slowly entered the building. Every step we took sounded with a creak. The idiots of our group said that they will investigate the cause of the bell. I watched enough horror movies to know that we shouldn’t go directly to the questioned area. They were really loud though. They laughed as they went upstairs and trashed stuff around. In just a few seconds they left a trail of destruction behind them. We split up into two halves and went to investigate each room. My group leader took one half and I took the other since I was another founder of the group.

We went into this one room with a lot of spider and creaky walls. We went around and found notes and instuff. I looked into a hole and out came a rat. I killed it instantly with a flick of my wrist. We then found a chest that looked worn by age and opened it. It was filled with spiders, but the spiders weren’t even the part we were looking at. We were looking at a severed hand. It was half decayed, but it was still bloody. We didn’t take anything out of the chest except for a spider that we decided to keep. We then slowly creeped into the second room. The second room we went in was not as scary and it showed light too. It was actually pretty bright. We could see the guards from outside too. They then looked at us. We then saw them slowly point their guns at us, getting ready to fire. I ducked as they fired inside the room. They mostly missed too because they have very bad aim. They kept shooting until they ran out of bullets. We then started to throw rocks at them from a distance. Our aim was good and hit them square in the face. We saw that they were almost done reloading so we ran out of the room. We entered another room just as it started lighting up. We ducked as their terrible aim missed us. Then the gunfire stopped. We looked outside the window and saw that 70 (I counted) of them had just entered the town. I panicked and told one of our group members to warn the other half. We then ran to the floor below the bell tower.

We stopped there and rested for a while. The we heard the door open. We hid in whatever hiding spots we could find. We didn’t hear them enter the room. We then went downstairs to investigate. No one was there. We went back upstairs to investigate the situation. The guards had vanished. Suddenly, we heard two screams. We went inside only to find the idiots of our group in the bell tower, on the floor, dead. We then looked up only to see a figure taller than the bell in the tower, towering over us. He made a grab for us, but we squeezed through the door just in time. We didn’t stop until we reached the exit. One of use asked what that thing was and our group leader responded with “I don’t know.” I suggested that we get out before we can, but everyone else wanted to stay and investigate more, so that’s what we did. I decided to go alone this time, but right before we split up, we heard gunfire. More guards were coming at us so we ran inside. Then we heard screams and then, nothing. We looked outside and saw nothing. Those guards vanished too. Someone in the group screamed and ran into the halls. He never came back. We followed him, but we couldn’t find where he went. We pronounced him dead and moved on. I went alone while the rest of the group went together. I went into a room with a lot of light.

The light was coming from the sun outside and there wasn’t a lot of stuff in the room. I then saw something that made me shiver in fear. A chest that was locked. Somehow there was a key on top of it. I took the key, opened the chest and out came a girl younger than me. She was trying to stab me with her hand and I know that because I felt my ribs beginning to crack. I found the key to the chest and stabbed her in the arm. She retreated towards the light, were I couldn’t see her anymore. She was gone. I ran in fear, hoping that that thing would stay in the sun. I opened the closet and hid there. It was seven minutes before I then heard a scream. I thought of going out until I saw the girl reappear from the window. She took the chest and vanished.

I decided to stay a little longer when suddenly, I was grabbed from the neck. He was huge, bigger than the closet itself. I started to hit him, but it was useless. Slowly, I slipped into darkness. When I woke up, my group members were surrounding me. I screamed, thinking that they were all trying to kill me, but then I realised who they were and calmed down. My leader asked what happened, but I didn’t respond. I looked at the door and saw that it was closed. I asked why the door was closed because we were downstairs now. He said to answer his questions first.

Also, I forgot to mention that the name of our leader is Zeke. He is intelligent in what he does. He will not tell you anything until you answer his question. If you don’t, he’ll beat you till you do, and he doesn’t care if you die. That is exactly what happened when I didn’t respond. His fist came flying at my face, throwing me across the room, and into the statue, the floor sliding me there. I look at him in shock at what he had done. I didn’t have time to ponder on it though because he was already charging at me. I quickly tried to climb the statue, but then I felt his hand on my leg and pulling me down. I tried to hang on the statue’s arm, but he was too strong and ripped me off the statue in seconds. He then sent a series of fists at my face screaming to me, yelling at me what happend. In seconds I forgot what exactly happened and I kicked him off of me, sending him flying towards the chairs in the church.

I then got up and started with a form of kung fu. This form would make you bleed if hit. He then, with a bunch of motions with his arm was in a position with a form I didn’t know. I decided to be careful of his attacks when he started sprinting at me. I jumped and kicked him, but he had already harnessed his attacks. He grabbed my leg and swung me until I couldn’t see a thing and then he flung me across the room, hitting the door. I was drifting in and out of consciousness as he walked up to me. I got up and prepared to attack him again. This time I would defend myself with jiu-jitsu as he started to attack. I tried to trip him, but he was already in the air. I tried to grab his leg while he was flying towards me, but suddenly, he switched to the other leg instantly and a full force kick sent me into the door again. I stood no chance against him as he started to walk up to me again.

I decided to try one more time. This time, I didn’t care about leadership, I only cared about my survival because I knew that he would kill me if he didn’t get what he wanted and I had forgotten what happened after he had knocked me on the head. I started to say that we still need everyone we have to survive, but he responded and it wasn’t pleasant. He told me “I don’t care if you survive or not as long as I get the information I need and I will get it, even if it means killing you.” With that he was off, coming at me at full speed. I prepared a series of attacks as he started to force a punch with the speed he was at. I again tried to trip him as he performed his jumping again. I attempted to grab his leg as he flew in the air, but he switched legs. This time I ducked and then I flipped with my leg out and kicked him into the door where he flew out of the church, and landed with a thud onto the desert sand.

He then got up and started again with a moveset that I didn’t know, but before he could complete it, I was already sprinting at full speed, this time with a killing moveset. He eyed me with recognition of the moves I was using. He acted fast, at full speed and kicked me, sending me flying back. I was given false hope and I knew that I would lose if I continued. Last time, I fought the leader of the last group and he took me down without a sweat. The reason why I gave up on that fight was because I wasn’t fighting for my life. Now I am as he was already charging at me. He attempted to punch me, but I used his fist to punch him back and with my other hand, I released a series of punches at him and he was on the ground.

He then got up and this time changed his style of fighting. He was going to use something I didn’t know. This was bad, really bad. He swung his hands a little and I was already confused. I tried to figure out if he was using defensive style or offensive style. We sat there for a long time, his face bloody and I with a lot of cuts and bruises. A bump on my head has already formed and my hair was covered with blood. My nose was broken too and one of my eyes was darkened, the pupil too big for me to see with it. It was half shut too. I tried to negotiate with him again, but he had already started moving, his fist coming straight at me.

I use a new technique that I had just finished learning at used it against him. He jumped and then went past me, dodging my attacks. He then grabbed my under arm from behind and flipped me onto the floor. He then repeated this attack ten more times before he performed a final attack. He launched me across the room, making me collide into one of the chairs.

I slowly got up as he prepared to fight me again. I told him that I had forgotten what happened, but this came out muffled. The group backed up a little as he walked towards me, thumping as he went. I knew he was going to snap my neck, so I started to retreat.

He prepared to use a common move set that I attempted to use against him. He was truly going to kill me. I prepared to fight him with everything I know as I looked at him in the eye. He was already moving before I could think. He slid below me and started to spin around, head on the floor and legs spread out. It hurt a lot and he was already about to snap my neck. Then I flipped and kicked him in the stomach. He went sprawling across the floor, all the way until he was at the now broken door. I had won.

I didn’t have time to celebrate though, because suddenly a tall figure had appeared. It grabbed our leader and tore his head off. He then ate the rest and started to come after us. I ran with the others, hoping to get away from in graps. When I looked back, it was gone. I decided that, as the new leader of our group, we should get out of the church before anything else happens.

We ran towards the exit, but then the door closed shut. I tried to ram into the door, but it wouldn’t budge. That makes no sense. It doesn’t have anything to keep it locked and when I ram though wooden doors, they usually break. I panicked. I wished for Zeke to still be alive. He knows how to get through this mess, but then I would be dead. I have to survive, no matter what. I have to live. I have to, I have to. If I didn’t, then all my group members would perish along with me. I decided to break and jump out the window. All my other group members did the same. We got the injured and ran straight to my house. My mother opened the door, really worried and took me to bed. I told her everything that had happened, except for the part where I fought Zeke. She said “you need to go to sleep now,” then we heard a scream. Everyone was running all over the place and the police were shooting at something.

I went to our group of 16 and said that we need to leave. When we went outside, we saw the figure ripping open the police officer’s torso. Another police officer ran off and started to shoot again. I was terrified. This is what they were searching for this whole time. This monster, who is invisible to bullets. I screamed and ran towards the fence. I then heard gunfire, but not from the area of the fight scene. I heard it outside. I peered over the fence and saw the guards killing the terrified people climbing over the fence. I knew that we would never get outside.

I then saw a whole barrage of people run over the fence and break it. The guards were distracted. While they were distracted, I took my opportunity with my group and family and escaped, free from their graphs.

Voters will, for the first time, receive three ballot papers instead of two ballots.

VOTERS WILL RECEIVE THREE BALLOT PAPERS

The Electoral Commission (IEC) has urged voters to carefully review and mark each of these three ballot papers before depositing them into the ballot box .

“Our appeal to voters is to remember that they can only put one mark on each ballot, more than one mark will result in a spoiled vote and not counted.

“The Universal Ballot Template (UBT) , whose dimensions are benchmarked against the longest ballot paper will be available in all voting stations, IEC Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sy Mamabolo says.

Mamabolo added that blind and partially sighted people, low-vision users, people who are dyslexic, and people with motor and neuron conditions that prevent a steady hand can use the UBT.

MILLIONS OF SOUTH AFRICANS WILL VOTE ON WEDNESDAY

South Africans will go to the polls on 29 May to vote for leaders in government for the seventh administration.

The 27.79 million registered voters will receive three ballot papers to elect candidates to represent them in the National Assembly and Provincial Legislatures.

The IEC further said the use of the three ballots follows the amendment of the Electoral Act. It was signed into law in April 2023.

“This amendment revised the electoral system to allow independent candidates to contest in the regional (province-to-national) tier of the National Assembly and the Provincial Legislatures. “Although the phenomenon of three ballots will be familiar to voters in various local municipalities, it will be new to voters in metropolitan areas and for the first time in general elections for national and provinces,” Mamabolo says.

The three ballot papers are as follows:

The national ballot: This ballot will consist of a list of political parties vying for seats for 200 seats in the National Assembly. This ballot will be used to vote for political parties. There are currently 52 parties who will be on this ballot and the configuration will be a dual column.
The regional or province-to-national ballots : This will have political parties and independent candidates contesting for the seats reserved for each province in the National Assembly. Voters will use this ballot to elect a political party or an independent candidate to represent them in the National Assembly. The number of contestants range from 30 to 44 on regional ballots. The configuration of this ballot is single column.
The provincial ballots : This ballot is unique to each province. And includes parties and independent candidates competing for seats in each respective provincial legislature. This ballot will allow voters to choose either a political party. Or an independent candidate to represent them in provincial legislatures. The number of contestants range from 24 to 45 on the provincial legislatures ballots.

Neighbors sue Ramapo ZBA for approving larger houses in Albert Drive neighborhood

MONSEY - The Albert Drive neighborhood has long been a fixture of Ramapo's single-family home character.

But neighbors argue their comfort zone is threatened by the Zoning Board of Appeals approval of two higher-density housing projects they claim in nearly identical legal actions are illegal and will alter their neighborhood.

The ZBA has approved variances allowing the construction of two-family buildings with accessory apartments on undersized parcels at 15 and 21 Albert Drive. The properties are half the allowable size under zoning, according to two Article 78 legal actions looking to block the approvals.

The legal actions argue town zoning mandates 20,000 square feet of land for two-family housing with an accessory apartment, with room for parking and recreation. The ZBA approved the re-developments on just more than 10,000 square feet.

ZBA rejected initial requests

Attorney Kevin Conway, representing neighbors in both legal actions, said the ZBA has routinely denied variances involving parcels of 16,000 square feet.

"Both parcels are grossly undersized for what's been proposed," Conway said. "What would happen is the buildings take over the entire area of the sites. There would be parking in the front yard, not permitted under the town code, and no recreation space for kids. These will be mini apartment buildings crammed into a single-family residential area."

One of the issues cited by the legal action is the ZBA rejected the redevelopment of 15 Albert Drive in 2023 but in March approved variances for the same project. The ZBA also had rejected a similar proposal for 16 Albert Drive, Conway said.

The difference between the two proposals at 15 Albert Drive is the second one reduced the percentage of the inside floor area, compared to the total lot area, from 72% to 69%. The board approved a similar redevelopment of 21 Albert Drive in recent weeks.

The legal actions state that the ZBA turned down the first redevelopment of 15 Albert Drive because it would "otherwise alter the character and usage of the neighborhood of single-family homes." They say the new application offered no new information.

So Conway said that in both cases, the ZBA members reopened the public hearing for the developer of 15 and 21 Albert Drive to provide additional information but improperly declined to hear a rebuttal from the residents.

The ZBA approval was illegal and unduly influenced by the developer, according to the legal actions filed on May 13 with the New York State Supreme Court in New City.

Neighbors say homes would be too big

Conway filed the Article 78 actions on behalf of neighbor Rochel Weinfeld against the ZBA members and developers David Slomiuc of 15 Albert Drive and Yosef Kohn of 21 Albert Drive.

Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht referred questions on the legal actions to Alyssa M. Slater, the town's first assistant town attorney. Specht and the four other Town Board members appoint the ZBA and other land-use board members, while the Town Attorney's Office represents the boards and can offer advice on zoning and planning matters.

Slater said Tuesday in an email response that the construction of a two-family house with an accessory apartment is a use permitted by right under the town's zoning laws. The ZBA decides variances from the code. She said several two-family and multifamily homes exist on Albert Drive and in the area.

She rebuffed suggestions the town is allowing overbuilding on parcels, and the ZBA exists to consider requests from variances from the code.

"The Zoning Board of Appeals is an independent body that makes independent decisions," Slater said. "The ZBA conducts a balancing test to determine if a variance should be granted."

According to court papers, the ZBA members found that the variances sought for Albert Drive houses were not substantial and would not produce an undesirable change to the neighborhood.

Neighbors disagree on the effect on the neighborhood

Neighbor George Amsel wrote the ZBA chair, Charlene Weaver, that he questioned the legality of the board's vote and decision. He said the board approved variances based on the developer using photos to show the project would not affect the neighborhood but did not allow the public to see the photos.

"Doesn’t the ZBA have the responsibility to protect the neighbors before granting an investor, not a resident, the permit to build a building ... grant so many variances that were denied by the building inspector?" Amsel wrote.

Weinfeld felt the ZBA members disregarded the concerns of the neighbors.

"The ZBA knows our opposition very well yet they let this pass," she said in an email. "We feel like there is no justice; citizens are not heard."

According to court papers, the developers and residents testified before the ZBA before approval.

"This is an aging neighborhood," Weinfeld said. "As people age, accommodations need to be made so that they can continue to function in their lives. There is no justification for compromising the lives of the majority of the neighborhood to support this project that would change the character of our neighborhood."

Developer: 'I am no different than my neighbors'

The developer, David Slomiuc, of 230 Remsen Ave. in Monsey, said he bought 15 Albert Drive with his partner, Joshua Spitzer. He said Spitzer plans to live in the house with his family.

"I'm asking the board to approve the property according to the law and according to other affordable projects on the same lot," Slomiuc said, according to court papers.

Spitzer, a resident of Edison Court, said that when he spoke to neighbors before buying the property, they approved.

"My family needs more room to live," Spitzer told the board. "I am not asking for anything less or anything more than what is already on the block. I am no different than my neighbors."

Neighbors said the developers bought the houses knowing the zoning so they can't claim a financial hardship to get variances.

Earnest Schlesinger of Sylvan Lane said, "We have only single-family homes on this block and all the surrounding houses along where we live and we want to keep it that way. We want to keep the neighborhood a beautiful neighborhood."

Ramapo has approved other higher-density projects despite some opposition

Other single-family neighborhoods including in several Orthodox Jewish areas, have rebuked the town for allowing redevelopment of higher-density housing. Town officials have supported large housing complexes, voting for higher density zoning projects like Patrick Farm, Pascack Ridge, Viola Estates, and Miller's Pond , the former Minisceongo Golf Course.

The Pascack Ridge and Patrick Farm developments are stalled by legal actions, while neighbors went to court to force the Viola Estates developers and Ramapo to close illegal apartments added after approvals.
